  1. Welcome Esper! There are a couple more people running with the defector concept, and as I recall, a few that may not have defected... Concept sounds really run to run with, can't wait to meet her IC!
  2. Thanks! I'm really looking forward to seeing how this all goes, can't wait to get it in game.
  3. Thanks, me too! (fingers crossed ) I agree, and I wanted something that was completely fresh for those of us that didn't get to experience 1.0, for better or worse. Not to say that those events will be ignored, but rather the basis of which to build on. Thanks! Not the first complaint I've received on server choice, but I wanted some additional options out there for us underdogs Awesome Des You're practically a co-founder with the info we've been swapping back and forth. RPing the the birth of all of this is something I'm really looking forward to. Anyone have any ideas for names? One of the ones that we've been playing with is Driftwood Coast. It was the name of an adventuring linkshell some friends and I started back on XI, and I like the concept of the FC being a place for drifters and travelers to gather. But we're not sold on it yet! Not opposed to RPing the name as well as everything else.
  4. I can certainly appreciate that, and I appreciate the support! I too wish we had some for of multi-world communication, and while I'm not completely set on my server selection, it just seemed to be a better fit.
  5. Excellent! Any time I hear that tune I'm immediately in a good mood, and I always thought it would make a great tavern theme outside of TDC. Cheers!
  6. As you roam the streets one evening, you see a jovial young man posting a notice outside a local tavern. Music from within permeates the building and spills into the alleyways. Are you wanting to Roleplay, have fun, work together, and learn more about the world of Hydaelyn? Maybe you don't know everything there is about the lore surrounding Eorzea, or perhaps you're a scholar who's been collecting data since time immemorial. Are you a crafter or merchant looking for a trading post to share wares? Perhaps you're an adventurer willing to explore, or simply want travelling company. Are you easy going and looking for like minded individuals to explore what it means to be a "Free Company"? Then perhaps you've found the right place! OOC - Myself and a few other individuals are looking to start a Free Company that grows organically with it's members. The concept is to start small and see where it takes us. I want a place where we can share stories, explore role-playing possibilities, and work together to achieve common goals, both plot related and otherwise. We're not looking for a military structured faction of conquest.. at least not yet  The goal here is to have a place for everyone to feel welcome and help each other out. I'm hoping that we can get an open trade of all crafting and gathering types to provide support and wares for each other to grow as a community. The idea is still fresh, and we want to explore all of the possibilities as much IC as OOC. We as of yet do not have a name, although we have a few ideas we're tossing around. If any and/or all of this sounds interesting, please let me know! I'd like to try and develop some rapport with the folks interested before hand so that we can start settling in as soon as possible. Thanks for your time and enjoy the day!
  7. Don't know how on topic this may or may not be, but what do we know about Sharlayan? From the wiki: The speculation here being that the Circle of Knowing are all well capable with magic (watch the End of an Era video...), and their patron deity hints at the further pursuit of said knowledge. It seems like there may be more information there in regards to magic academia, but we don't have much more information than that.
  8. I really love the first name! Say it aloud... "Khior'a..." it's quite lovely and fits perfectly into the naming convention. The repeated hard -K- in the 2nd name is a nice way to bring cohesiveness into it. 9/10. My character's name is Kayle Vaughn Delwyn.
  9. This is great, I'll throw mine into the fold Small Steps Hero The Confidant Undying Loyalty Death by Origin Story Taught by Experience We Help the Helpless Martyr Without a Cause Messy Hair
  10. Welcome to the community! I'm new here to and trying to find my way. And no worries, I got FF with my subscription to Nintendo Power when I was a kid..
  11. I didn't play beyond beta of 1.0, so I certainly don't have all of the information. I've seen some other threads on here discussing the matter, and I'll link in a later post if I can locate them. From what I've gathered there was certainly some effort made during the events of 1.0 by the resistance, but clearly any and all efforts to reclaim Ala Mhigo have been for naught. As a matter of fact (and potential spoilers) I believe there was at least one quest regarding resistance efforts, and I'll try to find more information. See above , beat me to it
  12. If anyone has a spare key, 2 of my friends weren't able to get to the site in time to register for open beta and really want to try it out. I know that registration may open back up once phase 4 is underway, but they still may miss out. Figured I'd ask here before I went searching elsewhere. Thanks for you consideration!
  13. That's awesome, nothing like new hardware! I'd love to eventually build a new rig, but my ASUS G50VT laptop is doing ok in the meantime.
  14. Sorry, I LoL'd... totally reminded me of this! EgoCYFNTWaY
  15. Have you checked this page yet? Square-Enix's official lore page that includes racial naming conventions, languages, history, etc. Really great place to start. http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/forums/491-Lore
  16. Thanks! Just saw the updated info on the other site and wasn't sure what was added. Will re-link the main post with your video link.
  17. Appears to be full translation of Q&A from last LIVE session http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/threads/62730 FCCKYfouAxE No subs in video yet. Not sure how much information here is new, just saw the update and wanted to make sure it had visibility. If this is a re-post or in the wrong thread, my humblest apologies. *EDIT* Re-linked video to a subbed version from Rock Sandbourne
  18. ". . . until one day a man clad in all black showed up at her doorstep, saying he was a representative from Garlond Ironworks, wanting to make a few inquiries or some-such. Haven't seen Runa since then, come to think of it... can't say I'm suprised with the stories she used to tell." ~ conversation overheard on Pearl Lane. Yea, might wanna keep that tidbit to yourself
  19. You've nailed it there. Based on what I could find the Bardic tradition may have started only about 100 years ago during the Autumn War at the Second Battle of Tinolqa. Grabbing a quote from this page (and looking for another source...) It was during these days that the archers of Gridania would prove their value beyond the bow, singing songs of heroism and glory in the field to bolster the allied troops. It is said that this gave birth to the bard tradition. The archers of Gridania excelled at combat in the dense vegetation of the Black Shroud, and their arrows inflicted heavy casualties on the Ala Mhigans In searching for another source for confirmation, I found this thread, which ironically sites it's source to a now defunct page right here on HRC. It's the story of East End that can be gleaned from a historian during the Monk AF quest. That being said, I certainly think it's an interesting shift in conventional tradition of bards, but it does force a bit of storytelling on the the player, especially Archer's that want to excel without singing I don't want to get off topic, but my assumption is that there will be some additional branching classes in the near future (i.e. Arcanist can become either Summoner or Scholar) that will allow Archers further possibilities (perhaps Ranger, Beastmaster?) As to why they locked down Bards to an Archer job, it seems to follow lore and tradition, albeit unfortunate for PC's who don't want to roll an Archer for the Bardic talents.
  20. You know nothing, Jon Snow...
  21. This is a cool thread I've played guitar for several years now, as well as a bit of bass and drum programming. I've got a link below of a song I recorded for my band in my studio. Be kind, it's a little old... JyT2JKAkr6I I promise it's not the only kinda stuff I'm into I've also been getting into digital music and producing in the last several years, but don't really have a whole lot I'm proud of at the moment, but maybe I'll throw something else up on Youtube sometime... until then, thanks for taking a moment to listen
  22. I'm fairly new here as well, but I'll throw my hand up in a friendly wave! 'Allo there, and welcome aboard.
