Can someone suggest official RP servers on Lodestone?
lady2beetle replied to Xerek Devereux's topic in FFXIV Discussion
That's exactly how it is. We might be gathered in groups but that's because you need a group to be a community. What we aren't doing is segregating ourselves into our own clubhouse with a sign that says "RPers Enter Here". We have the opportunity to integrate ourselves into the community and, from the perspective of SE and the other players, if we wanted or needed to expand to a third server (like some are doing), we would be free to do so. -
Something to keep in mind for making videos!
lady2beetle replied to Draheim's topic in FFXIV Discussion
Hmm..... well, my first question is... what videos are we talking about? Are they referring to the videos in game and those published by SE? Like the launch video and such? Or are we talking about videos created from Fraps and other programs that record gameplay? Very weird... Wait, here we go. It's in the second section: Guidelines for Music and Sounds You may only use music as it is incorporated in FFXIV; When showing gameplay, you may not replace the FFXIV music with third party music; You may not play FFXIV music alone (i.e., without accompanying gameplay footage), or with third party materials; You may not use the song track entitled "Answers." So, I think the answer is... no, we can't create music videos... unless it's made from screenshot stills, maybe? -
Yessssss, come to the wild side! We have cookies Key Lime Cheesecake Tarts!

I'm not gonna lie, there were a couple of times the other day when I had been spamming through the 1017 login attempts for an hour and my eyes were starting to glaze over. I got the error box and clicked "Okay" to close it an instant before it registered that it was actually a queue notice. I tried again, but the queue had already closed up and I was back to 1017. *queue me raging*

Can someone suggest official RP servers on Lodestone?
lady2beetle replied to Xerek Devereux's topic in FFXIV Discussion
So, let me pre-empt this by saying I have no evidence at all to support my theory. It's just a hunch. First, I don't think anyone can argue that SE doesn't care about RPers. If they didn't, we wouldn't be getting so much cool stuff. I mean, there are MMOs out there where you can't even sit in chairs, much less player housing. SE has created a very immersive and interactive world. It's screaming "RP". So, then why not create a server devoted specifically for RPers? Simple. SE doesn't want roleplay to be this weird cult of players who are confined to one or two servers. Can you imagine the response of the trolls if there was a designated RP server and you were on a different one? "Go back into your hole! You don't belong with the real gamers!" That would hurt the RP community in so many ways: 1) It hurts our reputation because we're suddenly a secret cult that is so weird we have our own world where we can't bother anyone else. 2) It hurts our community because we no longer have a visibility to other players who might not know what RP is or if they like it. 3) It makes those of us who like PVE and PVP chose between that and our RP because the RP server is going to have less opportunities for PVE and PVP (not none - just less). It is what we are used to from other MMOs, yes, but I don't think SE is willing to accept that. Notice that there isn't a devoted PVP server either. So, yeah. I know it's frustrating, but I actually think SE is helping us by not creating some backwater server where we can do our RP thing without bothering or helping anyone outside our own little clique. -
Well, it does say the "Welcome Desk", not the "Welcome Back Desk" so I can see the confusion! All joking aside, welcome back, Spooky!
-
Why is that a concern? I say go for it! However, I think that's not the case, because the last maintainance took 3 hours. It does not take 3 hours to kick off AFKers. Oh, well. It would be nice if that was their temporary bandaid.

Welcome! I think Nel might need to get an award for most Youtube recruits! And we're happy to have you!
-
Welcome! I think both servers are great. If you don't have a preference, I might suggest perusing the Linkshells/Free Companies and see if one tickles your fancy. Then you'll know which server you want to try.

My Wildwood is also in love with a Miqo, a Keeper! Your LS sounds interesting! I actually did want to find an all Wilds group, but Izzy's no merchant I'll try to reach you in game this w/e to see if it'd be a good RP fit! Sure thing! Our website is here. I have actually been really bad about helping Eris run it, so she knows more about some of the family details than I.
-
Teehee! My main might be in love with a miqo, but she's still a wildwood. In fact, if anyone is interested in getting involved, we have a Wildwood merchant family LS. It's called House Marchand. Adriel, Eris and Aulairet are trying to keep their wealthy merchant family afloat after their mother died, brother went poof with the other WoLs and father ran off to distant lands. It doesn't help that Eris has a heart bigger than her wallet and keeps giving gil and jobs away to refugees... or that Eris has fallen in love with a pirate... or that Adriel has gone all "wild child" and fallen in with the bad crowd. In other words, if you are interested in joining in the hilarities, we need always need more wildwood!

Welcome! 15 years *is* a long time, but that time goes by quickly... and as I realize that I've been RPing for about that long, I now feel really REALLY old.
-
Welcome and greetings!!

Just a little something that I wrote up. OOC comments welcome. Warning: there are a couple of references to previous sexual activities - but really, is anyone surprised? This is Adriel and Brom here. I'd still put it as a very mild PG.

Totally off topic, but... Every time I see these little guys I hear them in my head saying their name. And I think I remember it because when I first heard it, I was surprised by the pronunciation: "manDRAGora!" My problem is... I cannot FOR THE LIFE of me, remember what FF game had them actually say their own name. Can anyone help me?

I didn't see that your questions had been answered, so I thought I'd take a wild crack at it. At this point, I don't know that it's possible to tell if the population on each server is equal, BUT, we can say with confidence that each server has a large RP population, large enough that you won't notice any difference between them. As for being noob friendly, I only personally have experience with Balmung and it is very noob friendly, both for those new to RP and those new to MMOs. While I can't personally vouch for Gilgamesh, I'm willing to put money down that they are just as friendly and helpful to any newcomers to the RP scene. There is definitely no difference between the proportion of veteran RPers on either server, from what I've seen. That said, when it comes to questions and advice, everything from character ideas and lore questions, I would suggest you think of us as one single community and bring your questions here. There is a wealth of information in these forums and the forum format allows everyone to give more helpful information than they could give you in game. If however, you mean "noob friendly" as like the antithesis of "elitist snobs", I don't think you have to worry. We love our lore and will try to stick to it but both RP communities are very open and welcoming to new comers. Did that help?

Their notifications on which servers are and are not available for character creation are just speculation, I'm pretty sure. I think it's an automatic thing done by a game mechanic itself. The most recent notification says, for instance, that Faerie is closed and Coeurl is open, and that they will send out a notification when it changes. Earlier today, while trying to make my main, the in-game list said Faerie was open and Coeurl was closed, along with some other discrepancies (those were the only two I remembered). So even if the list says it's down, it doesn't hurt to check for yourself. Keep in mind though that Balmung is exceedingly popular and is one of the names that has been on all eight lists. Best bet is to hope for a Sargantas moment. Server crashes and comes back up, no one notices it's back, the low population allows for character creation. Sneak in and make a character before it tells you that you can't. Of course, that's somewhat rare. Another optimistic outlook is that, because Balmung has been on the lock list for so long and it's easier to log in today, maybe they'll open it up for creation soon. Who knows? Never hurts to have hope. Is it easier to log in today? Or is it just easier because they had the maintainance this morning so it automatically kicked the AFKers off and that has left the server temporarily light? I'll let you know when I get home and can or can't log in.

*Raises hand* I'm in that boat right now. I was really bummed that I didn't get into the EA because I had only payed for 2 months of subscription back in 1.0, the 27th rolls around and I finally get to play. Or so I thought. Turns out I'm going to have to sit here looking at my character and refreshing the world information until next week. When their way of "enjoying the game" is going AFK and denying others the opportunity to play, I will most certainly hold it against them. It doesn't really matter if it's the only way to guarantee a slot on a server. They're essentially saying "To hell with everyone that isn't me." and no matter your reasons, that's a shitty thing to do. No single person can fix this problem on their own. But you can certainly decide whether or not you want to be part of the problem. This may or may not help, as I think they've actually locked the creation of new characters on Gil and Bal (Correct me if that's incorrect though.) I've had the best, easiest time being able to log in, in the early hours of the morning. I wake up at about 7 or so AM, CST time and can get in without any problem whatsoever. If at all possible, you might try that. Go to bed a little earlier, wake up a little earlier than normal and try it in the wee hours of the morning. For some reason though, that's not the same as trying to get in at 1AM CST. Apparently, the late hours of the night are not the same as the wee hours of the morning.. Anywho. Back on topic! Ironically enough that's exactly what I did last night! I went to bed early, got up at 3 AM, went to log in... and there was an emergency maintainance and the game was down until 5. *facepalm* Oh, well. Maybe I'll try again tomorrow morning.
-
I hope so! For me, I'm actually glad I have Friday off. Maybe I'll get to play for the first time since Sunday.
-
That's actually not true. I mean about the 10-15 minutes. I spent an hour last night trying to log in before finally giving up and going to bed. If I had been logged in when I got home, I would have been able to actually play some. Instead, I didn't get any play time at all.
-
I'll admit it is *very* tempting because I work until 5, so if I don't go home and log in at lunch I will never get in to play. But I have managed to avoid the temptation.

I made a dumb video during the maintenance. Here.

I think the best part is the stunned look on "Yoshi"'s face. He's like, "ohhhh, shit." -
For those of you who are frustrated because character creation on Balmung and Gilgamesh are closed off, I understand your frustration and your dilemma, perhaps more now that I've have tried to understand the argument that's being made. Whatever you decide, we undestand that it's not an easy decision. However, what I wanted to point out, just as something for you to keep in mind, is that we actually have two separate problems here. For those of you who are considering creating a third RP server, I would guess that's because you are stuck in the camp I mentioned previously, that all character creation on our servers is on hold. You feel like you have to decide between waiting for that restriction to be lifted and making a new home somewhere else. But there's another problem here too. And that is the 1017. There are a lot of us who have created characters on Balmung and Gilgamesh, but it does us no good because we can't get to them. I was getting very frustrated last night because it feels like by the time I get off work, the servers will always be full - I never did get on last night, and I know a lot of others who are having the exact same issue - some are experiencing other bugs and reasons they can't play. And then there's the time you do get on, get some play time, then the game crashes and you get to hang out with 1017 for the rest of the night. I am NOT telling you this to suggest that our problem is worse than yours. It isn't. On the contrary, I'm hoping this will give you hope. Because I can promise you that the people on Balmung and Gilgamesh are NOT leaving you in the dust. So, what are our options? For those without a character created, you have three options (as I see it, I may be missing one): a) create a third RP server, b) create a temporary RP server, then consider transfering your characters to Balmung and Gilgamesh when the option is available (do we actually have confirmation that this will happen?), or c) waiting for character creation in Balmung and Gilgamesh to open up. Those in the 1017 camp, however, already have characters that we have put time and effort into. Our decision is whether to a) go to another server to create a character that we'll probably trash later, b) not play FFXIV at all, or c) sit all night playing the 1017-spam-login game. What this means is that even if you DO get your character made, you'll likely get to join us in the 1017 camp. It also means that my personal advice is to give us a week before deciding to leave Balmung and Gilgamesh forever. Just a week is all I would ask, because my gut tells me that when they upgrade the servers, both the character creation lock and the 1017 will start to alleviate. Whether you take my advise is totally up to you. I can't promise that everything will be fine and dandy in 7 days. I wouldn't be surprised if we still have queues (and I'm actually crossing my fingers that they increase the maximum queue size to help avoid 1017 issues). But I personally am more willing to wait 7 days than 30 days (at least that is what I was telling myself last night). Here's hoping that everything settles itself out, and I'm sorry for rambling. I actually had the epiphany about the two different issues last night and I realized that it might help to remember that everyone is facing the same problem - not being able to play the game we so desperately want to play. 'Server guy' gives his insight on ARR server problems
lady2beetle replied to Dameon's topic in FFXIV Discussion
Here's my question - what about the queue? One way to minimize 1017 issues would be to increase the maximum queue size. I would be happy to log in and get at the end of the queue, even if it meant I was #1000 or something. Because then I'd know I could go do something else, not spam "log in" buttoms and maybe go have dinner and then come back. It also means that it's not a race to click 'log in' at the exact right time. I'd know then that I'd get in when it is my turn. However, I assume that putting people in a queue means that you have to have a server devoted to that right? I'm not really sure how queues work but I assume there's a devoted "queue server" and that is also very small because they didn't expect to have this many people queued up at once? (As an aside, I'm not saying that I want to log in to #1000 in the queue every day, but it would be an acceptable bandaid until they have a chance to upgrade their servers next week.)
