1. I confess - I actually DO have plans to use this in my RP. But like the others, there are stipulations and acknowledgements: 1. First, I this was a plot idea we were throwing around before the vial was revealed - I was going to need to actually reroll my character. 2. This is a very rare thing. In this particularly case, it is a curse placed upon my character, certainly not something she has free access to. 3. I'll admit there are IC and OOC reasons for doing this and it involves a lot of character development. 4. I am not in a hurry to follow this plot and will be taking my time laying it out, so it's not a spur of the moment, "Hey, look I'm a cool!" ting. 5. I have absolutely no problem with people not accepting this, but I ask that they handle it ICly. Would your character believe that my character is now a different race? Absolutely not. So RP that way. I'm counting on my character dealing with a lot of grief for trying to prove that she is the person she was before. Hope that helps... and gives at least one perspective on the issue.
2. I've played both and though I prefer 3.5, I've found that 4th is sometimes less complex when you add in the complexity of playing online anyway, and often teaching people how to play the game without being there to sit with them. That said, I would probably suggest DnDNext over 4th, and in this case, I'll probably offer to play 3.5 over either of the other two because I know it so well that prep time would be much less. However! If anyone else is offering run something else, like a SWSaga game or something, I would totally jump on board that ship.
3. So, this conversation came up in Skype while I was asleep. For which I am kicking myself that I missed it. Anyway. The discussion of maybe wanting to possibly consider putting together an online tabletop game. So, I wanted to throw this out there: https://www.fantasygrounds.com/ I've used it. It's pretty cool. In fact, I should still have my campaign ready to go for that if anyone wants me to run. The only problem is that it does cost money. It's $24 for the lite license (players only) and $40 for the full license (DMs and players). I already have the full license for myself and 2 lite licenses for players, but we'd probably want more. There's also this: http://www.rpgobjects.com/index.php?c=orpg OpenRPG has it's advantages and disadvantages over Fantasy Grounds. It doesn't have as many features. And sometimes it can be glitchy to make work. But it's free. And it's less work to set up by the GM. Lastly there's this: http://www.d20source.com/2012/05/tabletop-forge-a-new-google-gaming-app We had a few issues with Tabletop Forge the last time we used it, but then we were having issues with all the programs. I think we decided this one was the best for our purposes and it was a long time ago, so I bet they added some cool functionality since then. The advantage to this is that most of us have used google hangout before and it's free. I'd probably suggest this over ORPG because it has more functionality, but then I haven't played ORPG in years (and I mean... about 10 years), so it's possible ORPG has put its big boy pants on since then. I've used all three, and would be willing to run a little D&D game on either (3.5 or 4.0). Or I could help someone else get it set up if they want to run. Then, of course, we'd add mumble or something like that. So, what do you guys say? Anyone interested? Update! It looks like TableTop forge has disappeared. But there is this: http://roll20.net/ I'll do some more research on this program, but the first word I saw was "free", so there is that! LOL
4. First of all, I had no idea where to put this post since I'm not showing off my own art. I have a minor art request from anyone familiar with photoshop & photo manipulation. And second of all, I hope it's okay to ask this favor? If not, I apologize and mods are free to delete the thread. I just commissioned a pair of headshots of Adriel and Brom and I really like how they turned out: http://i.imgur.com/sLSk73k.jpg. What I would like to do, though, is move them closer so that one is a little behind the other, maybe a tad higher or something. Does that make sense? Unfortunately, I have no idea how to do that with the white background and paint won't easily let me turn the white background transparent. If anyone can throw something together for me in like 5 minutes I would be very grateful! Don't put a lot of effort into it, though.
5. I'm not exactly sure about this one. I see a lot of people having a problem with the whole "I'm this even if I'm not" thing. It's kinda like roleplaying a halfbreed, or a job that isn't actually in the game. You can't really prove it so a lot of people will likely see it as a one-dimensional kinda thing that is unimportant except to establish that you are a special snowflake. That aside? Great post, a sticky would definitely prove very prudent. As someone who has a little bit of a problem with something that people are not.... This is represented by a tattoo. A tattoo which isn't even visible all the time I'm guessing knowing how character clothing models go. This isn't like roleplaying a halfbreed or a job that isn't in the game to me because those could potentially have different animations, different things that should be on your character, etc. That said if someone wanted their job to be "I raise goats" even though there isn't a goat raising job... I don't have to pretend all that hard to imagine that. And, I think that's the rule of reasonability. Someone who's magic involves time stopping and shape shifting? Again, there aren't... powers to represent that and that could be a stretch for people and generally speaking the people who would be concerned for that would comment. This is literally a story and a drawing which may or may not appear on your character's body. I think it's safe to say that pretense is fine Also as far as special snowflake... that's a term for when you ask for something that almost no one else has. Playing a mutant with telepathy in this world could qualify. It's sole purpose - when you're really being a special snowflake - is to try and add something to your character expressly to make them cooler than other people that no one else can do for no other purpose (not to advance story, offer a complication, etc.) than to try and get attention. There's HUGE swaths of people who have this history and really all it amounts to is an interesting point of history. I wouldn't call someone falling to "special snowflake syndrome" when it's something that over 30% of the game players could say they have, too. Well that's certainly fair enough. Forgive me, I come from an RP community on World of Warcraft where players are much less... Let's say, forgiving. I'm used to seeing people catch flak for RPing something that shouldn't even matter, like the issue mentioned above. I once saw 6 people give a girl a hard time because she was RPing an Orc that lived longer than their "natural" life span. ...Yeah. Glad to see the majority of this community isn't so strict. I agree with Koren's special snowflake synopsis. It seems to me that critical to being a "special snowflake" is being, you know... special. But this is more a matter of new players wanting to think that they belong. They want to be a part of something that the missed out on. There *will* be people who protest who get upset. And they will be those who see that tattoo as a badge of honor that they are proud of. It really depends on how you look at it, but I would argue that the people who are likely to have the most issues with a new player pretending to be a WoL are the ones who aren't RPers. They are the players who are most likely to see that tattoo as proof that they are cool enough to be legacy players. Those of us who are hard core RPers? Who understand that it's all about developing the character into fun, engaging personas? I honestly think we're the ones who will care the least. (That's not to say that all RPers will be cool with it. But when people do get upset, I suspect that it will, at its core, have nothing to do with you RPing that you have a mark on your character's body that doesn't show in game, and everything to do with the fact that you are claiming something they consider their own personal badge of honor. In short... they are the ones trying to be the special snowflake, not you. )
6. It think part of the problem is that both sides are very high strung right now. Some of us who are trying not to take sides are just walking away - which leaves those who are very passionate about their possitions to stand off. It's really not a community discussion any more. It's a discussion between a few very passionate individuals across an electronic medium that makes it all but impossible to properly interpret eachother's meanings and is thus leaving the entire thing to suffer from misinterpretation of what the other side says, and more high strung-ness... etc. I'm going to confess that I have gotten annoyed by some posts and I had to sit back and ask myself if it's because I felt attacked because I was the other side. Would I feel the same if I had already chosen the other server? That's what I mean by misinterpretation. We're all just pounding our fist against a wall and trying to break it down, but only getting bloody knuckles while the person on the other side doesn't see it as you trying to break down the wall separating them - they see it as you making a crap tone of noise while they are trying to watch a movie. So... I'll just leave this right here.....
7. *pulls out and waves money around* Let's talk...
8. *squee!* You, ma'am. Need to put up a comissions list so people can start putting their names down on it. Just saying.
9. I feel like... this is one of those things that really depends on the specific circumstance. On one hand, I reserve the right to determine who my character RPs with because it's her story. I may not tell others how to RP their character, but they also can't tell me how to RP mine - and that includes deciding if I want to RP with them. I also feel like handling things ICly can often be best. If he's a layabout who doesn't have any respect for authority? What would the IC consequence be? He can easily be asked to leave the group for IC reasons. Power levels may be a bit tougher but it comes down to whether the person is actually godmodding or if you maybe have different views about how certain abilities work in the game. Either way, if their character isn't fitting into the story of your group, you have the right to tell them that they are a great RPer, but their story just doesn't fit. That said! I also have a passion for creating characters that aren't molded for the group they are entering. Some might call me a special snowflake. I guess I don't see it that way. I see it from a biological perspective. Every organism (read: RP character) needs their own niche. Something that they are responsible for. In D&D, that can often mean that I want to fill a role that isn't being completely filled. In MMOs and RPs, it means I like my characters to have unique characteristics that aren't included elsewhere in the story. In short, having a single group of likeminded studious mages-in-the-making is boring. Having a group of characters with their own goals and themes and intentions that all interact differently - that's fun.
10. This is a very noble goal, and one that I tip my hat to all of you for striving for. I also, however, feel like this is a distinction that may be a very strong deciding factor for people. I, for one, do not want a server where RP becomes LOL!RP. I know that's not what you meant, but I feel like you are taking on the sacrifice of true quality story-driving RP so that people can get a better impression of RPers than we might have right now. Again, very noble. Just not something I can do. And it may not be something other people can do. I don't know. Then again, maybe some people don't see it as a sacrifice. Maybe it'll turn out that Gilgamesh is the "tavern RP" server. And some people thrive on that. As someone who doesn't, I'm glad that distinction is being made, though, because it is directing me away from Gilgamesh. If it turns out that this IS all about different RP styles, then kudos! I guess we'll just have to find out.
11. I agree here. If there is no godmodding and if the "thief" is good at what they do, then you should never know that they are a thief. I, for one, am absolutely for the anti-hero concept and I have been very fond of playing, if not a thief, at least an assassin. If we all had perfect hero characters, then RP wouldn't be nearly as fun. That said, if a "thief" lets themselves get caught or otherwise blatantly makes it obvious tha they are a thief, then they have to deal with the IC consequences. But don't punish them or critique them OOCly. That's just being elitist.
12. Forgive me if this has been done, but I haven't seen it. I'd like to see if we can collect a reference list of artists that aren't in RPC that we have gotten art commissioned from. I know I'm in the market for a commission or two and I'd love to see what artists everyone else has used. Of course, if you are an RPC artist, feel free to throw your name out there as well!
13. I was looking for ideas for what my characters might do when they aren't out saving the world and I came across this. I've just been clicking the random button to see what I get. I think gardening might be a fun one to add to a hardened hero, don't you think?
14. Okay, I took everyone's advice and changed Adri's hair color. Now my next question - light skin or dark skin? Here are the options: ((Yes, they are different.))
15. FTR, I adore Aegon's expression. He's like, "Excuse me, miss, I don't have time for your flirting, but I'm too polite to tell you so."
16. I finally have mine! Yay!!! Adriel Marchand Tyakha Zhwan Runa Dawning I don't like Adriel's look, but I'm not sure how to fix it. I'll tweak it over the next week or so. I *might* change her completely to have black hair. Hmm...
17. I really like the one on the right. I can't tell you why. I just like her skin tone better. Awww! Little brother!!!
18. I just realized I have let you guys down. Why didn't I include this with my original post? Question 1: Do you live in the US? Question 2: Do you love strawberries? If your answer to both of those questions is yes, then you need to check this out: http://specials-images.forbes.com/imageserve/0dWE7A13tAeMH/0x600.jpg?fit=scale&background=000000[/img] https://s3.amazonaws.com/plumdistrict.com-production/perks/24691/image/original.jpg?1337985497[/img] What IS this beautiful thing, you ask? Edible Arrangements. I live and breathe Edible Arrangements. Mother's Day? Send her an Edible Arrangment. Sister's Birthday? Edible Arrangement sent to her school. Sympathy or Get Well Soon? Edible Arrangement. Seriously. Check them out. That is all.
19. So, in one of my WoW guilds, we had a forum thread with nothing but pictures of cheese. You name it, as long as it had cheese (I think there was a MLP covered in cheese once). I figured we need to do this with rolanberries. I'll start. http://wdrb.images.worldnow.com/images/22401563_BG1.jpg[/img] http://blogassets.catchmyparty-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/recipe-chocolate-covered-strawberry-cupcakes-mothers-day-text-580x484.jpg[/img] http://i1.trekearth.com/photos/2086/big_strawberry.jpg[/img] http://fc09.deviantart.net/fs28/f/2008/090/6/e/Cute_strawberries_by_Luna_clover.jpg[/img] http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-p-ja7XOkqTE/TpzfIkvb13I/AAAAAAAAALc/y00lQ2ukPvw/s1600/rosita-fresita-wallpaper-hd-1-786669.jpg[/img] Your turn!
20. The SE site says they aren't accepting the codes yet. My worry is that I'll miss the window to enter them. Someone put an anouncement up when it opens, would you?
21. I hadn't realized who Adriel was until I put her in Brom's presence. Suddenly, we got this: gQHenB-Xv-g
22. I think I'm in the "like the size they are" camp. I understand what you mean about them only being the same size as a hyur, but the problem is that they are flying, so they are actually taller. That would cause a disruption in large battles, I fear.
23. Oooh, ooh! *gets in line* I don't have much art, but I have a description? I have absolutely no artistic ability, and I'm honestly not sure exactly what my character looks like. I have a few details, though, and I would love to find out how some of you would interpret her! Name: Runa Dawning Race: Hyur midlander Gender: Female Age: 20 years old Origin: Garlean Empire Previous profession: Magitek mechanic Current profession: Miner/smith [updated] Appearance Height: 4 Fm, 8 Im Weight: 95 Pz Body: Small figure, likely built for crawling into small spaces when working on machines Hair: Dark auburn, medium length and pulled back in a messy tie to keep it out of her face Eyes: Hazel to green, depending on the light Skin: Tanned with freckles Clothing: Khaki trousers of a thick canvas-like working material. Light weight tunic under a vest of midnight blue. Brown leather jacket and a leather tool belt that hangs off her hip. A weathered brown cap shoved down over her hair in a messy but endearing fashion. Thick leather work boots and a leather pack slung over her shoulder. If that inspires you at all, I'd love to see it. Maybe you'll inspire me! References I've used: Mechanic Girl - I like the hair color, and the toolbelts. I'm considering the tattoo. Mechanic - I like the way the hair is pulled back all messy-like. The toolbelt is also good. Steampunk girl Steampunk mechanic - I like these clothes, especially the pants.
24. can I order a skylander's cake please? We'd like it delivered on Saturday for a pool party. Thanks! (Just kidding - those are amazing!)
