1. She's definitely Hyur, but I don't know if she'd be a midlander or highlander. She's a native of the Garlean Empire, so that may be a different subrace entirely. She knows her birth name - she was told that when she survived the 'accident'. But she changed her surname when she fled the empire, I think. (I'm half making this up as I go along.)
2. Building on the idea of a young woman who doesn't remember anything from more than a few years ago, I wanted a name that meant something along the lines of 'mystery'. I found a few options. Help me pick! Personality-wise, she'll be serious and a little shy around others, though a survivor. Intelligent, but naive due to not knowing the cultures she's surrounded by. So I want a name that isn't too goofy or too exotic. Help me pick!
3. I apologize if this has already been asked, but does anyone know if the naming conventions differ at all for characters that might have come from the Garlean Empire?
4. I. Basic Info Characters: (Work in progress) Primary character: (Work in progress) Linkshells: (None yet) Primary RP linkshell: (None yet) II. RP Style Amount of RP (light, medium, heavy): Medium-Heavy RP, but there are times when I want to zone out and quest or go solo. Views on RP combat and injuries: I tend to injure my characters more than I probably should. >.> I'm all for RP combat and injuries so long as both sides are in agreement about the outcome (either they know who will win, or they are both willing to stand on some form of random chance to determine the winner). Views on IC romance: Yes, please!! I am a horrible romantic and am always looking for mates/significant others for my characters. Views on non-romantic RP (family ties, etc): Again - yes please! The more ties my character has, the easier it is for me to pull out reasons to RP. I love coming up with backstories as to why my character might already know others. Views on lore: There's so much of it!!! I think my first character is going to be as much of a blank slate as I can make her so that we can learn the lore together. I want to enjoy learning it as I go along, not cram it as if I were cramming for a final exam. Then I wouldn't enjoy it. Views on chat functions (/say, /linkshell, etc): I'm all for any chat functions, but I can easily get overwhelmed and will sometimes tune out my chat window if I'm in the middle of something. III. Other Info Country: US Timezone: Central Time Contact info: lady2beetle (at) att (dot) net (email) or lady2beetle (Skype). Just be sure to tell me you are from RPC, or I might ignore the request! [glow=blue]~Special announcements can be found in the posts below~[/glow] I'm still working on character concepts, but I'm also open for any IC contact ideas anyone may have, and I also haven't chosen any Linkshells yet, so please drop me a line if you have a suggestion!
5. You do, but I suspect you'll be able to get that stuff from ebay from people who got the CE and just wanted the digital stuff.
6. Same here on both counts! I can't wait for P4!!
7. Ah, yes, the memories. I remember when my sister and I figured out that when playing track meet, you could stand off to the side of the pad and lift your foot to jump really far. And you didn't pick your feet up all the way, but tippy-toed like to run really fast. We cheated so much on that game....
8. Yay! More RP! WHOOT! Welcome! I'm nearly as new as you, so I can't give you all the awesome advice that the regulars can, but I look forward to RPing with you!
9. Hello and welcome! And yay for Duskwights! I've always had a softspot for drow and other dark elves.
10. So, I've been really at a loss with what kind of character to create and part of that is because there's so much lore that I feel overwhelmed. I want to take my time and enjoy learning it, but I feel like I need to understand it to create a realistic character. This has led me to the conclusion that I'd like to play a character who is a clean slate. So that I can experience the game and the lore of Aorzea with her. Unfortunately, that has left me with one of the most cliched of character concepts - amnesia. Despite being so cliched, I am drawn to the idea of a character who is very unfamiliar with anything in Aorzea, since her player is so unfamiliar with it. I keep thinking back to FFVI and Terra who had her own battle with amnesia and I can't help but wonder if something like that could be attributed to the magitek that the empire uses. If my character originates from the Garlean Empire, is it possible that she worked with magitek, maybe as a mechanic of sorts, and there was an accident? I don't know... what do you guys think?
11. I'd also love to join you guys. My skype is lady2beetle.
12. Heehee thanks! I feel totally lost in all this lore, actually. I do have another question - if I have a potential character concept that I want input on, should I post it in the Welcome Desk or the Roleplay forum?
13. yeah, I would suggest starting with the digital CE. In my experience there are always people who get the CE then maybe decide to stop playing down the road and sell their CE, but the digital codes have already been used. You can get those for relatively cheap on ebay because the used codes have diminished the CE's value.
14. Out of curiosity, where did you get the name Isaac Jacobi?
15. Yay! Another Beta addict! I actually was thinking the same thing about my character. I'm still rather stumped about what to do with her, though.
16. OMG, thank you so much! Okay, it's going to take me time to learn the written language, but I can pick out the three main PC cities. But what is the city furthest east?
17. I'm not sure which forum this should go into... forgive me if I got it wrong. I was curious, where do you guys get the character banners in your signatures? I've seen some of them and they are gorgeous!
18. The entomologist in me goes crosseyed a little at the state of the ladybugs in FFXIV. So sad that their reputation has been tainted to the level of a common tick! QQ ((Mostly kidding - this is a great post! I'm definitely bookmarking it!))
19. Thank you so much for this! It definitively got me started. I just have one (probably stupid) question. Is there a map of Eorzea/Hydaelyn available to see? I feel like a visual image would help me here.
20. Thanks! Sorry if this is a stupid question, but what's the difference between a Free Company and a Linkshell?
21. Good morning and hello! :bouncy: Let's see... what to say about me... **I finished writing this, then realized it was long. So skip the "spoilers" unless you are really interested.** TLDR: So yeah. I'm 33, female, and have been RPing since I was 18, been playing on MMOs for 10 years, and have been RPing on MMOs for the past 2 years. I love character development and my friends tease me about torturing my characters - I like to think that whatever doesn't kill you makes you stronger, so long as it's in RP and not in real life. That said, I hate angst and "woe is me!", so my characters tend to be very strong females. I only have a very small amout of experience with FF Tactics, and no experience with Crystal Chronicles (aside from "My Life as a King" on the Wii, which I don't think counts). And, like I said, I had never before played a FF MMO until this weekend. I think it's safe to say I'm hooked, though. What that means is that I know very little about the history of this particular FF world. I have a lot of studying to do! What I'd like to find is a group of people who are looking to set up a Free Company (that's the right term, right?) so that my character can know some people right off. Any suggestions?
22. Hello! And yay for LJ! Not many people know what that is these days. Do you know if there is a FFXIV community on LJ yet? Anyway, I adore forum RP, too, so I can't wait to get to know you more! Heehee!
