  1. (Emphasis mine.) Interesting... ...though the implications for PC White Mages are rather more complex now. Alas that the archive of the stream is only available to those who want to pay. So if there's officially other ways of getting white magic, my character finding a soul stone in The Sunken Temple of Qarn (Which was from the 6th era, when white and black mages were pretty common), fits the lore after all. She just got the white magic seperate from the main story. Works for me! Except Qarn comes from Belah'dia which is 6, whereas White Mages were common in 5th. Ah but this here is from this websites wiki: Fifth Astral Era 1500 (YA) - Grand Companies come together to prepare for the Sixth Umbral Era. - Many White Mages abuse their power and the art begins to die out. Sixth Umbral Era Element: Water 1500 (YA) - A Great Flood submerges and damages many parts of Eorzea. Possibly caused by the Archons. - Shatotto, a very talented thaumaturge, casts Meteor to bring down a 'Star' and uses the fragments to create the first Stardust Rod. So it is still possible for the last remaining white mage to of left a soul stone in the temple. They didn't just dye out over night. If anything the Fifth Astral Era, and Sixth Umbral Era, began in the same year. It only said that the art Begins to die out. So it is still possible to find such a treasure within them ruins I would believe.

  3. Well lets see, I started out in a traditional Tribe RP for K'ailia, which definitely involved a Nuhn, Tia's, and sex. One of the reasons my character is no longer part of the tribe was because of her fear of sex, and a fellow tribe mates stance with her about mating. The irony though, months after her exile, she ended up being courted by a male miqo'te, and is now engaged to be married when the marriage system comes in. However, she's still got an adventurous spirit, she wants to see new places, experience new things, so even though sex is part of marriage, she does not want to get pregnant. But sex is part of the world, and given her tribal background, sex is a part of her story.
  4. My character K'ailia, was exiled from her tribe a while back. However, she still has much to learn about outsider culture. For example, she's honest to a major fault, and blunt, much to the annoyance of a friend that plays an Elezen lol. So if your char hangs out in the shroud, or even lavender beds, well look me up!
  5. Here's my entry for K'ailia. Couldn't decide what shot to use so decided to submit all 3!
  6. 1.) Mine doesn't claw the furnature. But she has been known to take a nap on top of book shelves, cupboards, and other furnature much to the dislike of an Elezen friend. 2.) Mine probably would purr 3.) Mine doesn't like folks touching her tail, so no. 4.) No 5.) K'ailia doesn't like rain, so yeah most likely she'd bolt. 6.) No 7.) See number 1 lol 8.) She will play with whatever she finds fun at the moment.
  7. Way I see it, if I wanted to play a human-like char, I'd just play a Hyur. Instead, I wanted a species that better fit the remake of my old World of Warcraft character who was a druid that spent a lot of her time as a cat. So Miqo'te I approach as being feline with human qualities, rather than the other way around. To me, it makes the race a lot more interesting and plays off of their feline characteristics than just being an every day human wandering around a city. And what I've observed in videos from 1.x, and what I've seen in game, miqo'te do fit their own stereotypes, such as amazing jumpers, graceful like a cat in their movements, and can seem to always land on their feet. Now Miqo'te eyes, we see the keepers with large rounded retinas. Suggesting they see quite well in the dark. But I imagine as keepers, they really have to squint in the daylight, or wear shades to protect their eyes when out in the open sun. Seekers though have traditional cat eyes, narrow slits, which give them an advantage during the day, and helps their vision during the daylight time, but night time they'd probably have a hard time seeing. In fact I'd go so far as to say they probably see worse at night that a Hyur. Opposite end of the spectrum for keepers. Outstanding night vision, horrible during the day. And lore does say they have good sense of smell and their hearing is more than likely up there with Elezen, only with the ability to point their ears in the direction of the sound, can be a lot more focused than Elezen or Lalafell. Taste though is probably no different than a human, and reproduction is the same as humans as well. But the Miqo'te biology for some reason, produces far more females than males. The fact we also see their tails move with their emotes, especially when expressing feelings, suggests they are very cat-like in that regard as well
  8. I would not be surprised if they did have superior senses to humans, but I've always thought that Moon Keepers have superior night vision and inferior daylight vision, and that Sun Seekers are the opposite - very good daytime vision, inferior night vision. Yeah that I definitely think is the main differences between Seekers and Keepers. Seekers see amazingly well during the day, not too well at night. And Keepers, would definitely be the opposite end of the spectrum, having exceptional night vision, but pretty poor vision during the day. If Miqo'te have catlike tongues, their sense of taste would actually be worse than the other races. Cats in the real world have 470 taste buds. In contrast, humans have 9,000. Cats also can't taste sweet foods because they lack the taste receptor for it. So, no cake for Miqo'te. If Miqo'te have something similar to a Jacobson's organ, though, they could 'taste' scents. I did not know that about cats, so yeah I guess they wouldn't have superior taste to humans. That probably is one of the organs I do RP as being really not all that different from humans. So definitely good sense of smell and even hearing, based on the direction the ears are pointing. Eyesight as mentioned above, would depend a lot on the sub-species of Miqo'te.
  9. I RP K'ailia and my other Miqo'te as being feline with human features, rather than the other way around. So yes, in the case of my miqo'te, Nepeta Cataria aka, catnip, does make them trip out. However, reproduction department, I approach that as miqo'te being like humans there, except the fact that Miqo'te produce mostly girls, with boys being very rare for either species of Miqo'te. As for tongues, I do suspect their sense of taste is far more superior to other races. Do they have sandpaper tongues? I don't think so. But I do think they'd have more nerves within their tongues. I believe miqo'te have superior sight, taste, smell and hearing compared to the other races.
  10. Well I think all that can be said, has been said. And seeing a few responses towards myself, I am gonna be bowing out of this thread now, before things have a chance to get out of hand. Just know, I don't hold anything against folks who want to RP the jobs. It's well within their rights. There's lore to back it up. It's not my place, or really, anyones place to dictate to others what they can and cannot RP. It comes down to what makes you, yourself comfortable. I consider myself a middle ground person. I can accept any job being RP'ed, within reason. If a char isn't a marry sue, or is the bastard child of minfilia and thankred, and part dragon part vampire, we most likely will get along swingingly I've always been pretty relaxed when it comes to RP. And if someone rp's a way that I don't like, I don't really criticize them. I usually shy away from them. Because in the end, it's not my place to say how someone should RP, or what they can and cannot RP. Later!
  11. Gah your post was here when I finished my post lol. You know, I wouldn't mind meeting in the middle at all. Ideally, I don't think anyone should be shamed, or showed ire if they desire to RP any of the jobs in this game. White mage and Black mage included. Many of the best RPers I've met, have been one of those. Me personally, I do admitedly get turned off to people that say "You can't rp this job because my view of lore says no". In all my time on Balmung, I've only ever met 1 person that was like that. Most people are perfectly fine with people rping jobs. In fact I dare say the majority of the community does RP the jobs. So I do tend to take a more neutral and open stance. And yes there are limitations in my stance as well.
  12. No, you can indeed continue RPing your job. Some people interpret lore one way, lots of others, including myself, interpret it completely different. So if you want to RP a Black Mage, you are completely free to do so. Hell on Balmung, I've met and RPed with upwards to 15 different black mages. Even my own FC has summoners, black mages, scholars, and of course, white mages. In the end, your character, your choice. Wrong. I actually was one of the most knowledgable people of warcraft lore, until Blizzard butchered it starting in Burning Crusade. Since that expansion, things had gotten even worse for that games lore. This games lore is consistent, and doesn't contradict itself, even though there are a few who disagree. But one thing in Warcraft lore that used to be canon, was that the eredar corrupted sargeras, but then their own lore guy who wrote the original version, didn't remember his own lore and had sargeras correct the eredar instead. When their own lore guy cannot even keep the worlds history together and continues even to this day, to butcher the lore which just about every warcraft lore geek now agrees, is beyond saving now, then it is perfectly justifiable to say this games lore is 100% more stable.
  13. To say that 1.x people are considered mythical, would be wrong though. The 5 people seen in the cinematic, are supposed to be representations of 1.x players who have returned to the world. 1.x lore is still canon. SE when they remade the game, increased the timeline by 5 years and began a new era as I said. And in regards to white mages, I believe there are very very few padjal, but the ones that do exist, are by default, white mages. They are the keepers of the art. Teaching it amongst themselves, doesn't make them reviving it. It makes them continuing to be keepers. Reviving white magic into Eorzea, means to me, that they are teaching non-padjal, aka, the adventurers of Eorzea, to be white mages. Also, when it comes to white mage crystals, the one in the story was only 1 example of a soul of a white mage. Considering the white mages and black mages were quite common in the Sixth Umbral Era, and most jobs crystals/runes come from eras past, it wouldn't be unheard of for ruins from them eras to have such crystals/runes within. The fact is, the past history before 1.x, is still being worked out by SE, which is why many eras haven't even got any detailed lore. I'm sure as the game grows, the lore will grow, expand, and be made more clear over time. But in the meantime, I see no issues with folks RPing the classes or the jobs however they want. As long as there is some lore to back up character backgrounds, like a conjurer that also communes with the other 3 elements of thaumaturgy for example, it is quite possible to RP a conjurer or white mage, capable of using all six elements. So where do we draw the line? Well for me, I avoid marry suing my char. So since she is ICly a white mage, who is capable of using all six elements, she will never be a thaumaturge or black mage IC. She has only the most basic understanding of arcanima, so she could summon carbuncle. As for scholar, I've made that an OOC class, same with summoner. Disciples of war? Well she has only the most basic understanding of martial arts, which falls under pugilist. And archery? From when she was in the tribe, she's a terrible shot though. Beyond that, any class outside of white mage, pretty much is an OOC one for me. The only exception, will probably be from the upcomming 2.4 class/job, as the person who plays my characters fiance, has vowed to teach her a different way of fighting with daggers. But even then, ninja would most definitely be an OOC title. Overall, I don't feel anyone should feel restricted on what class/job they can RP. If the person is a decent rper, friendly, and not a god moder or marry sue, then don't let their choice of IC job, keep you from rping with them. Even if your interpretation of lore suggests they can't, everyone definitely has their own interpretation of lore. And one thing I can say for certain, this game has far far better lore than World of Warcraft
  14. I use real world time to dictate my character. When I made K'ailia during open beta which went to live launch, she was 16. On January 20th which is also my real life birthday, I had her also age up to 17. So yeah I do rp the passing of time. Which is why when 2.1 came out, I also considered the events of 2.0 also being the past, and the ending of 2.0 having us move into the seventh astral era, which coincided with the real world new year, meant the calamity for my character happened 6 years ago.
  15. My main character is a 17 year old who has been exiled by her tribe. So she technically has no family because according to tribe laws, when she was exiled, she became dead to them.
  16. Yeah such an example would make someone too powerful ICly. That's why my own char, she doesn't have the echo, she doesn't have a massive rank in the serpents, the only thing she's good at is elemental based magic, with white magic healing, and some basic weaving (IC and OOC she can't even sew 2 or 3 star recipes lol) I think if people want to RP the jobs, they should be able to, without being scorned or harassed. As long as their character isn't a marry sue, and still follows an interpretation of the lore that makes them having such a job, fit, then it is alright with me. Someone being every job though? I don't think so. Heck, one could RP a summoner job, without being the job. For example, rather than summon an egi of the primals, what if instead, they were an elementalist that could produce the elemental themselves. Like instead of Ifrit-Egi, it ends up being just a fire elemental. I have yet to see any summoner, try that approach. It would be an interesting approach to say the least.
  17. Allow me to clarify my interpretation of white mage arts being revived: When the Sixth Umbral catastrophe happened, select few were charged with being keepers of the White and Black magic arts. With White Magic, the Padjal were chosen to be its keepers. Teaching it amongst their race, isn't reviving the art, it is merely continuing to keep the art safe as keepers for the day it is deemed safe to revive the art in Eorzea. In order to revive an art, the keepers of the art would have to take students outside their little circle. Their little circle in this case, is their race. From what I can tell the Padjal are very very few in numbers, and I'm almost willing to bet every one of them are white mages. And I also suspect they are longer lived than the other races of Eorzea. So as I said, teaching amongst themselves, is nothing more than continuing their roles as keepers of an art. Basically keeping it safe until the day the races of Eorzea are deemed mature enough, and trustworthy enough to not abuse it. With the Garleans showing up, adventurers took center stage, showing skill, and wisdom to help protect Eorzea survive the onslaught. 1.x lore is still canon today. It may had been a pretty crappy game, but SE clearly did not throw it out. They merely brought 1.x to a close, then expanded the lore and increased the timeline by 5 years for 2.0. And in 2.0's story you play the first of many adventurers who get trained to be a white mage to combat both the Garlean threat and also the threat of the primals. That's why in the Lost City of Amdapor opening questline, if you talk to Raya-O-Senna as a white mage, she doesn't address you as her former student, but as just another white mage. Because 1.x white mages weren't her students. It suggests that as of 2.2 when The Lost City of Amdapor dungeon came out, that adventurer white mages have become more popular. So 2.0, the art was starting its revival, so in 2.2, the art can be considered revived. That's my interpretation. It's not stretching lore, it's actually going by lore. In my own character's case, I went a slightly different route, and found a white crystal from the sixth umbral era, to learn to become a white mage. That doesn't stretch lore either, because white magic was quite common in that era. The Padjal though guided her after finding the crystal, so she could be a white mage, which falls in line with the padjal reviving the art.
  18. To me, that is saying Raya-O-Senna is reviving the art and teaching new white mages. In the story, we see her train the first new one. But it is quite possible after the training is done, that she and her brother began teaching more adventurers. There is not a single piece of info to corroborate this in the questline itself. You could also read that line as indicating that the Padjal are "reviving" the art by teaching it to each other (which is repeatedly stated during the questline). I disagree with that. The questline lore simply does not support what you are saying. Which would eliminate the possibility of being a White Mage because the questline states in no uncertain terms that you, the player, are the only non-Padjal allowed to learn White Magic, and you are only allowed to do so because A-Towa-Kant specifically chose you (and only you ._.) to be his heir. Which means to play a White Mage, you're gonna have to stretch the lore somehow to work around the information you're given in the Job quest. You're 100% free to play that out, but it doesn't fit the lore of the questline at all. :-\ White Magic properly used (similar to the way Conjury is used, which is a pale imitation of White Magic anyway) shouldn't have any effect at all on the surrounding area. It's heavily implied in the explanation for why White Magic was forbidden that the issue with White Magic was that White Mages were misusing it (I'm looking at you, Holy) on a massive basis. There's no reason to believe that using Succor as it was originally intended - which was to bring comfort to those in need - would actually cause harm to the world around you. Ultimately, you can play whatever you want - even the jobs that, lorewise, are restricted to only one person because of terrible quest writing. Everyone is free to do that. Actually if you read number 2, I mentioned not using the main story to explain why you'd be a white mage. And the games story does explain WHY white and black magic became forbidden for a time. It was being used so much that it was using up the aether energies in the atmosphere itself, which caused a calamity. My interpretation of the lore suggests that after the main story happened, Raya-O-Senna being more open to outsiders learning white magic, which we see throughout the white mage story, would consider teaching it to other adventurers who have proven they wont abuse the powers. The one who was opposed throughout the story was actually her brother, but even he ended up coming around. Also, I believe there was a follow-up quest that wasn't restricted to white mages, that seemed to suggest they had become more open to adventurers, though I can't recall what quest it was that involved her and her brother.... *looks it up* Ah right! it was the amdapor unlock, if you went to them as a white mage you get this: Raya-O-Senna: Ah, a white mage come to help get to the bottom of this noisome business! So technically, since she trained you, would she not remember you? Instead she merely says a white mage come to help. So this leaves the lore well open for interpretation, that perhaps your character is not the only adventurer who has become a white mage. In fact, lets also keep in mind the opening cinematic: 2:04 - White mage is healing the warrior 7:18 - white mage appears with the group Which means, the white mages were utilized before Bahamut actually appeared. So it's not improbable that someone could find a soul of the white mage from ages past, to become a white mage. It still abides by the lore, the game still supports there being non-padjal white mages in Eorzea. But yeah I knew when I became a white mage OOCly, if I wanted to be an IC one, I needed to do some heavy homework. I wasn't about to use the game story for it. But I needed an alternative path. So finding a crystal from the sixth era, was my gateway I worked from.
  19. Actually WHM I can confirm, is accessible to the PC. And I will also supply proof. http://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/pr/game/#!/jobs/content To me, that is saying Raya-O-Senna is reviving the art and teaching new white mages. In the story, we see her train the first new one. But it is quite possible after the training is done, that she and her brother began teaching more adventurers. That quote is pretty open ended, and if only the Padjal could be white mages, then they would be a playable race, otherwise, we would not of even heard of white mages otherwise. I'm of the opinion that all jobs can be RPable. As long as the player has a story that meets certain restrictions which are: 1) Apply to the lore 2) Doesn't use the main story Number 1 is a "Of course!" and number 2 is basically if everyone used the main story as their character, then no one would have a unique character. My own character, found her crystal in the sunken temple, from the sixth era, and because the crystal bound to her, she underwent the training from a padjal so as not to abuse the power like white mages of the past. And even then, her white mage training was still heavily limited, and she focuses solely on the elements themselves. In fact, she rarely uses white magic at all, except in the most dire of needs, because she has a clear understanding of what effect it has on her surroundings. As for black mage, I do not RP that job or even the class. I use fire, ice and lightning, as elements she's learned to control through conjury training. So it is definitely plausible to RP the jobs, as long as your character's story fits with the established lore. You could either learn the jobs through current time training methods, or gain them through archeology basically.
  20. there are basically 6 elements in Eorzea: Earth Air Water Fire Ice Lightning The conjurers who are limited to the shroud, also tend to limit themselves to Earth, Air and Water, because those are the most predominant elements within the shroud. However, I can see conjurers/white mages who are not limited to the shroud, being able to expand their repertoire with the other 3 elements in their most predominant locations. Like Fire could be found in Southern Thanalan, or even the volcanic areas, Ice would be predominantly in Coerthas, and Lightning would be found mostly in Mor Dhona. My character, who is weak physically, has strong talent when it comes to the elements, so since she isn't limited to the shroud, she does indeed have access to all 6 elements. And IC, she's never visited the thaumaturge guild, and never obtained a black mage crystal. So Thaumaturge/Black Mage, are an OOC class for me, but the element based spells the class casts, are an IC one. As someone said, only an elder character, or someone highly gifted with elemental based magic, could have access to all 6.
  21. K'hai looked to the outsider, "Someone drove the cart through the mountains and they followed it. I got here by passing through a tunnel that led to the U tribes territory. While there I learned the Amalj'aa have been rounding stealing away travelers and even U tribe for tempering." He let out a puff of breath, "You have to think like the Amalj'aa. They want easy pickings for tempering. And you see a cart loaded with food and miqo'te that clearly are not U tribe, heading not to the forgotten springs, but out into the wide open desert. Would you not want to see where they are going?" K'hai shook his head, "The best idea now, is to forgo any form of festivities. Get a good meal in our bellies, and start moving far from here."
  22. K'hai listened to K'yohko's words. While he hated to admit it. The nuhn was right. Especially upon hearing what happened after Carteneu. "You are right K'yohko. As usual. I will speak no more against him.", K'hai responded. Letting go of his hatred would be difficult. But he would do his best to do as the nuhn requested. "I will do my utmost to drop the hatred. I do not wish to be a burden to the family. For now, we should focus on getting the tribe moved. I doubt that small scouting party was the only one following that wagons trail." he finished.
  23. K'hai looked at Yohko, a bit of a frown appearing on his face, but that eventually faded. Especially hearing the huntress intervene. "Fine. I will focus on healing. But I should still see the elders soon. Right now only you, the girl, and those in this tent know I am back." he said, walking to a corner, vacating the mat he was on and plopping down into a corner. "To tell the truth I am surprised he's not joining his beloved exiles. The elders I remember would of stripped him of his gems and told him to leave camp.", K'hai said almost to himself, yet looking to K'yohko.
  24. K'hai's ears twitched, and he looked to K'yohko. Surely even the Nuhn could guess what was going on outside. He nodded to the outsider then rose to his feet slowly as not to re-damage himself. "K'zhumi, I must see to the elders, but it would seem a firm hand is needed to end a childs foolishness outside. Allow me to leave now." he said, matter of factly.
  25. K'hai looked at the stranger. From his looks he clearly did not belong in this camp. His hunch, which usually is accurate, told him he was brought here by K'ile. Another crime the tia has commited. Then the rod was pressed into his hand and the question asked, so he responded, "I feel some light pressure, and it is only slightly warm. Now that I've answered your question, answer one of mine." He looked li in the eyes, "Were you brought here by K'ile Tia?"
