Hate to burst your bubble, Rock, but come phase 4 everything is going to get wiped. Unless something drastic changes, they're not carrying any changes over to Phase 4. Any changes in phase 4, however, will make it to release, so this upcoming wipe will be the very last one.

I see what you did there. (emphasis mine)

Restricting the Linkshell Hall to linkshell leaders crossed my mind as well, but I'm afraid it would make it so that members cannot create their linkshells freely, they'd have to wait for a moderator to give them the permissions. As for people trying to bump their threads with contrived updates, I think that's fine so long as they actually have an actual update. After a while it might be hard to find something new to say about their linkshell.

I'm not sure I'm understanding this, Deirdre. What's the point of being so unforgiving as to not allow someone to retract a statement that they feel might have been brash or poorly worded? It only means that they regret their words and are willing to take them back. EDIT: This is getting off topic anyway. If this is really a big concern, perhaps it should be taken somewhere else?

In an environment where what you say, no matter how innocuous, can be interpreted wrongly and can lead to large long-standing arguments and grudges, it's no surprise that there is a need for privacy. If someone wants to bring up a sensitive or polarizing topic with the linkshell leaders at the meetings, I think they should be able to do so without fear of possible retaliation from those who might take their words the wrong way. The reason we have a forum mod host it is to make sure that there's no backbiting or gossiping or general toxicity that could sow discord not just among the linkshell leaders but among everyone. If the concern is that they're using that privacy to hide insults from those they are insulting, then rest assured that such a thing is not tolerated at these meetings.

This initiative has ended. This post is kept for archival purposes. -- FreelanceWizard We understand that impatience affects all of us from time to time, but we feel that it's important that you PLEASE READ THE FIRST POST (or at least skim it to make sure you've got the important stuff down). Hello and welcome to the RPC Mentorship Program. If you've been directed here, it's possible that you're new to roleplaying in Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, and you don't know necessarily where to start. Don't panic, we've all been there, and many of us have decided to volunteer as "mentors"; meaning someone who can work with you one-to-one to answer any questions or concerns you have, and help get you started. Sometimes, even if you're familiar with roleplaying in an MMO, it can be hard breaking into social circles if you don't really know anybody. So even if you don't need help figuring out how to make custom emotes, you could very much benefit from a mentor. Who knows, once you've been shown the ropes and you're comfortable and well integrated into the community, you can become a mentor yourself and help give other newbies a leg up. Getting started... We've asked our mentors to fill out a short form so that you can get an idea of who they are and what kind of help they can offer you. More information will be nested in a spoiler, should you need it. As you look over them, you'll want to keep in mind what you're looking for in a roleplay. Once you've decided who you want, click the link provided in the post to send them a PM and tell them about yourself and what you would like help with. It's possible that they might not agree that you are a good fit for them, in which case don't be discouraged, just come back to the thread and try another mentor. If you're having trouble making a decision, or if you've tried several and they've either declined to take you on or have become inactive and unresponsive, feel free to send me a PM and I'll be happy to help or even offer to mentor you myself. If you're too shy for even that, you may post in the thread and see if anyone's willing to swoop you up. Don't be shy if you can help it, though. Everyone here put their name forward because they want to help out newcomers like you. There's no need to be nervous or shy. Active Mentors

Square-Enix has said that starting with Phase 4 of the beta, all changes will be carried over to the official release. You'll also be allowed to create a new character on any server you want, legacy or not. I hope that clears it up.

Just wanted to leave a short note for the mentees; please don't be shy about picking a mentor. I don't want to see anyone who posts in this thread be forgotten. If you're not picky about who you get, be sure to let us know, that way the mentors know to extend their hand.

As some of you may be aware, this thread was previously locked due constant argument. As per member requests, we've decided to reopen the thread with the off-topic posts removed. We ask that you try to move on with the discussion and avoid off topic bickering. Should this thread get out of hand once more, it will be locked again indefinitely. So please, be courteous and give each other the benefit of the doubt. Thank you.

We must save the crystals or orbs or the moon—whatever.

Welcome to the RPC! I will look forward to stealing shit from woodland creatures with you. -
I burst out laughing at the "OMG LALA ODIN CONFIRMED!!!" bit. I love you Ferne... <3

Unfortunately, any chance of constructive discussion seems to have been lost, and this discussion has gotten out of hand. For this reason, I will be locking this thread, and I hope that everyone here will have a chance to cool down and gather their thoughts before deciding to hold grudges.

I believe he just said that he's still looking to start the polling on the first of July. So not yet, no.

While I don't feel like there's any attacks going on thus far, I'd like to remind everyone that the forum rules require us to respect one another. We should try to both give each other the benefit of the doubt and be more mindful of how our words might look to those who read them. It seems most if not all here can agree that there's nothing wrong with preferring idealism or realism to reasonable degrees. Let's build our discussions upon that, okay?
-
Possibly, yeah, I don't know that it's a point for either side in this case. At this point, the community looks like it's going split in some capacity no matter what anyone does. The issue before us now is by how much. EDIT: As far as the July 1st deadline, I'll be sure to ask Kylin about the reasoning behind it if he doesn't address it by the end of the day.

If you're asking why you couldn't access your personal chocobo as soon as you logged into beta, it's because you need to use a "chocobo whistle" item now. The Calamity Salvager that can be found in each starting city will have it if it's not already in your inventory.

Shiro's an absolute wuss, so I at least have an excuse. Great discussion, by the way, but I think Final Fantasy has a lot of romanticization in the way they portray characters, so I don't really feel it's completely out of the question for roleplay in a Final Fantasy game, but I do absolutely understand that people can be put off by it.

A linkshell isn't anything particularly special in-game, no, but we call the separate RP groups here linkshells because generally speaking they all use them as a primary means of speaking to each other in character.

What LS/group are you referring to? As far as I know every group here who is accepting members is accepting newcomers and legacy players alike. I've actually looked at the LS recruitment and other LS lists through this site, and some were closed and were not accepting new members. I will not mention any names up here since it'll cause more commotions than it should. Group, maybe they would accept newcomers and legacy players . But I dont think it's the same for LS. The only LS I know of is Crystalline, which is waiting until the organization is formed in character before accepting new members, legacy or not. They're not doing it to keep non-legacy members out, they're just waiting until they can play out the group's establishment in game, and once recruitment opens again everyone who wants to will be able to join. That said, there a handful non-legacy people who are already in Crystalline who joined just before they stopped accepting members. It's not something that non-legacy people should be taking personally.

I call it "Planet of the Opo-Opos"! Not exactly art, but I felt I should post SOMETHING.

Torn Sky's Art & Commissions (also open for requests!)
Ellie replied to Torn Sky's topic in Artisan House
Gorgeous stuff. I really like the style, and I can definitely see the Amano influence as well. What program are you using for these? It almost looks like paint. I'd ask you to draw Shiro, but I don't really have a lot of references apart from the art I've made of him. I'll have to get on that sometime. -

New PCs are always exciting. Take care while you're gone, we'll be here when you get back.

I'd just like to bring up the Duty Finder that will be available at launch, since no one seems to be discussing that yet. If your concern is that there won't be enough people on the server at your level to get through low level content, you don't have to rely on the promises of the higher level community. The Duty Finder will let you party with anyone who's looking for a party no matter what server they're on, and from what I understand the Duty Finder will cover any and all instanced content that can be done in a party. So there should be no reason to worry that you won't be able to find a group for a dungeon. Pretty much everything else is soloable except for maybe FATEs (which are adjusted to the amount of people in the zone you're in anyway), and you don't have to be a certain level to participate in roleplay. So unless you're really attached to a certain group of friends who won't be rolling on an RP server, or you really don't feel like starting your character in an established economy, there really is no reason to be apprehensive about joining a legacy server.
