As far as the question posed by Draheim goes, I tend to feel that they probably couldn't hear it. When music plays in game, we tend not to recognize it ICly because it's just coming out of nowhere. It'd be weird if you heard a chocobo song pop up whenever you mounted your chocobo. That said, I think you can maybe say that they can hear the song in a metaphorical sense. Like hearing the noises from the vibrations as Dalamud tears through Hydaelyn's atmosphere, like answers to the planet's call of distress, and thinking of it as a sort of song made by nature? I don't know. There's no reason given by the lore, apart from the nod given by Jainelette's harp playing, to think that Dalamud Answers is anything but a song meant only for the player to get in touch with the atmosphere of the current area in the current situation. Like many things, I think it's not important enough to say it should be one way or the other.

Perspectives of Crystalline LS - Honest Feedback Sought
Ellie replied to Eva's topic in RP Discussion
There's a lot of information being presented here, so I'm going to try to put in my take very briefly. From my perspective, just from what I see, Crystalline is the kind of linkshell that thrives from interacting with the entire RP community, and not just its own members. The idea is to be an asset that other people or other groups can call upon if they need help. This means that once the organization is rolling, anyone can participate at virtually any level, whether through open events or joining as a part-timer or volunteering full time. The issue with recruitment is something we've been struggling a lot with, but the fact of the matter is that before we can recruit people with confidence, we need to know what skills Crystalline is looking for. The last thing we want is to promise people that they can be in the group only to find out later that they don't have a role they can fit into. We don't want to push that kind of rejection on anyone. On a lighter note, though, how did Crystalline get this "top LS" label after Blue Skies held an event in closed beta that drew around 100+ people? -
It's quite a few videos so I'll put them in a spoiler. Trust me, you won't be disappointed. Just some of my favorites from off the top of my head. If you guys haven't heard any brentalfloss or Distant Worlds tracks, you're definitely missing out.

And wearing Ravenclaw colors, no less. I'm highly disappointed.

From what I know, retainers (which you can hire at the retainer desk at your local market in your city-state of choice) hold a lot of items as well. As far as "banks" go, I do know that Free Companies will have their own storage as well. Sort of like a guild bank in WoW.

Legacy and Non-Legacy are labels that SE uses. We've designated these servers as primary and secondary from the very beginning when we announced that we were going to hold a poll to choose the secondary server.
-
For now, I think whether or not the "Legacy" tag will attract or repel new roleplayers remains to be seen. There isn't too much of a point in speculating about it until it happens, especially considering that there are so many other factors that will come into play. For now it's probably best to just wait and see what, if anything, happens.

If I had to choose a favorite... "Anime and manga don't count Ellie!" I hear you saying. Maybe not, but Kenshin Himura has the qualities of a superhero. Super speed, super senses, has great skill, and he uses it to save people. Sure, he wasn't bitten by a radioactive spider or sent to earth from a dying star, but those are just icing, really. And while I do have western superheros that I like a lot, I'd be lying if I listed any of them as my favorite, not when I'll always have this awesome character in the forefront of my mind.

Ferne seems to be on fire today (figuratively, I hope), posting a record shattering three blog posts in the same day! For the sake of not flooding the headlines posts, however, we'll put them all into one large topic. Exposition Like Hell and...OH, HI LIGHTNING A Walk on the Wild Side I sure hope Fernehalwes doesn't overwork himself...!

Not the first time Cloud has appeared in another title. Final Fantasy Tactics. Dissidia. Cloud also has an implied appearance (his sword hanging on the wall in a weapon shop, and the shop owner mentioning that it belonged to a spikey haired fellow) in Final Fantasy IX

I think I've posted this somewhere before, but I won't mind posting again. Originally Keisuna was one of my characters in FFXI. I got the name by combining "Kate" (my online pseudonym at the time) with "Esuna" because I wanted to make a white mage. Unfortunately one of the people in my little group was already covering the white mage bit, so I made her a red mage instead. It wasn't until I saw how mischievous she looked in a doublet that I realized what I wanted to do with her character. She was a young cat-burglar (I thought I was so clever, too), and a cocky one at that. She insisted on wearing bright orange even when committing her crimes, thinking herself too skilled to be caught. She was a bit of a narcissist in that sense. I didn't get to roleplay much with her, though, because we were on Hades and I was too busy trying to catch up with my friends who were max level. Once I got to FFXIV I decided I wanted to do something different with Keisuna. I loved her overall attitude but I wanted to develop it more into a richer character. I then got to thinking about what would happen if FFXI Keisuna was finally caught and sent to the dungeons to pay for her crimes, and FFXIV Keisuna was based on that idea. I loved the idea of playing an older woman, and I thought the fact that she was inexperienced despite her age would make for great roleplay (turns out it didn't much). There was the problem of her backstory as a nigh uncatchable cat-burglar being a little too close to being mary-sue for my tastes, so she was instead I made it so that she came from a family of vagrants and nobodies, a concept that would eventually evolve into the Adarest. And that's how she came to be.

I should hope, in the spirit of fostering RP fun for everyone, regardless of server, that other hubs might consider linking to our website as well. Wait, what's our beef with behemoth? How is server beef even a thing? I wish I knew, actually, I feel like I missed something.

My current Miqo'te character is a book loving physician who couldn't fight his way out of a paper bag. I don't think being a tribal type character is required to play a Miqo'te.
-
I think most of the problem stems from the fact that people believe that while RP is meant for fun, it should also have certain standards put in place in order to ensure that play is immersive, and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. For many people, when roleplay isn't immersive, it's no longer fun. I feel that there's validity to both sides, but I think we do ourselves a disservice when we fail to remember that we're here to have fun and play. Everyone should remember that, whether they believe in certain standards for roleplay or not.

There are conveniences and benefits to levelling multiple classes on the same character (cross class skills, for instance, or the ability to change to a crafter class to repair gear on the fly) that would not be available if people stuck strictly to what their character's IC occupation is. What about those whose IC jobs are not available to be leveled? I can see why someone who has a character who wears armor ICly would want to level a warrior class in order to look the part, but that's about as far as it goes in my mind.

The rules require us to respect one another, even if we disagree. Unfortunately there is no constructive discussion in this thread, only satire designed to make certain people look like a fool. I'm afraid I'm going to have to lock this thread.

We're getting quite a bit of this, apparently...
-
We'll cross that bridge when and if we get to it. For now, if you're plan is to use Balmung as your primary server, we ask that you please refrain from voting.
-
Correct, if you are going to be staying on Balmung, just ignore the poll and go on with your life.
-
Unfortunately, if you wish to play it on the PS3 you must have a physical copy of the game disc. You can, however, play on the same account that you made with your PC, which means you don't necessarily need the serial number, you just need the disc. Meaning you can likely buy a used copy for very cheap on Amazon or ebay and play the game on the PS3 that way.

Well, it sounds a lot like you've lost access to your Square-Enix account. Unfortunately if you no longer have access to the email, you might run into some trouble getting it back. I'd try contacting the SE Accounts customer service just in case there's something they can do for you. On the bright side, your $80 might not have been wasted. If you can't recover your SE account, you'll need another copy of the game anyway.

Blue Skies Event: Horizon Crossing (temp Gilgamesh, perma Balmung)
Ellie replied to Merri's topic in Chronicled Events
Thank you very much to Merri, Xenedra, Fearless, and everyone who came. It's not often that you see so many roleplayers together in one place, and it's always a madhouse! Thankfully we were split up into groups, so it wasn't hectic for long, and before I knew it I was having a blast (it's hard to have fun when your character is shy, after all). I'm afraid I don't have a lot of screenshots of my own (just the one actually) which I really regret, because Fearless and I had some truly wonderful moments. Of course, at this point quite a lot of people had already left, but it was still quite a crowd. If there's this much of a turnout in a closed beta, I can't wait to see how many people we can get together once open beta starts! -
I don't believe that I've never told anyone that they cannot have an opinion of their own. I might not be able to completely understand your opinion, and I might even think it's not very well thought out, but your opinions are yours to have. And if it's the elitist "top tier gear only" crowd you're really worried about, I guarantee the new servers have them within a month. You're not going to get rid of them completely, even on a server that has a lot of console players on it. Besides, unless they've got a 1.0 character that they're really invested in, I can't imagine them passing up the opportunity to play PVP on a server made up mostly of console players (whom they might feel are inferior, and easy to win against). That's just my take on it, though. I'm just saying that, considering the nature of MMO's you shouldn't get your hopes up about having a server with very few elitist jerks, legacy or not.

Actually, I don't know if the movie analogy is very accurate. Most of the game's content, especially the story, is as new to us as it is to anyone else. It'd be more like seeing the sequel to a movie that you've only read the synopsis of, but your friend has watched the whole movie. The movie itself is new to you both, but the person who saw the first movie knows the characters and the themes of the story better. I won't fault you if that's something that you'd rather not have to deal with, but I feel for those who are like you, but will be joining the game in the future. They won't have a server that's brand new for them to start on. If going to a server where people have already been playing is so bad that there are people who can't tough it out for a few months until they're experienced too, this means they're not likely going to want to join us on FFXIV at all. It's kind of sad to think about.
