RP Servers: A Discussion (mods please read before locking..)
Ellie replied to Mtoto Wamoto's topic in RP Discussion
It seems there are plenty of people here who have addressed your concerns, Lilszee, and a lot of them were once in the same situation you're in. I'm sorry if you feel like you're not being listened to, but it doesn't seem like you're willing to listen to anyone else either. You appear to have your mind made up. No one will stop you from starting on one of the new servers, but you have to understand that very few current roleplayers would throw away their hard work to follow you, and very few new players will want to go to a place where there are only a small handful of roleplayers at best. There's not much that anyone here can do to help you. -

I've sort of noticed one, to be honest, but it could just be different perspectives. I think what you're seeing is there in some capacity, but certainly isn't intentional or malicious. The people here who played in 1.0 have gotten to know each other through roleplay, and it's given us a sort of familiarity that I think is hard to replicate in a forum setting like this. I know because that's exactly how it felt when I first joined, but I guarantee that once roleplaying in game starts in earnest, you'll be familiar before long. It won't happen all at once, but if you stick around and stay with it, you'll find a place. -

I have to wonder how many of the concerns voiced here could simply be solved with time. I definitely sympathize, drawing upon my experience with FFXI. I came in late and leveling up was hard. It took me ages to even get close to the higher levels and getting groups together for all the quests needed just to do the stuff my friends were doing was nigh impossible. That wasn't my experience with FFXIV roleplaying, though. I came into the RP scene here relatively late and while I did find it hard to see where I fit in at first, I stuck with it and now I can't imagine myself leaving it for the world. You don't need a relic weapon to roleplay, after all. You don't need to have a high level character or the best gear or a lot of gil to have fun roleplaying. You have to have that stuff for high level content and buying a house, sure, but not only is it easy enough to solo (even in 1.0) but so long as they're still adding jobs and classes people are still going to be leveling up all over the place, and level sync is still going to be an option for playing with other people. And after some time, these differences will fade, and you'll wonder why you even worried about it to begin with, but that won't happen if you're too afraid to stick with it. Honestly, we're not nearly as far along as people think, mostly due to the fact that a lot of us were busy RPing instead of doing primal runs or working on relic weapons. I seriously doubt it'll be as bad as people are making it out to be, and even worse you'll have less people to roleplay with, and fewer opportunities to make friends. -
I don't have any characters who are dancers or particularly talented performers, but I will definitely keep my eye on this.

Not sure we have any bomb squads, but I can always check in the backroom for you later. Regardless, I'd like to take the opportunity to remind everyone that the rules of the forum ask for you to be respectful to others. The subject of pastel colored ponies is very controversial and divisive, and there are many people who are passionate about it, so do keep that in mind when posting. Thank you!

New Developer Blog post with some very nice looking sacks.

If I had to pick, I guess Shiro would be a mouse (funnily enough). And Keisuna would be a cougar. (*Baddum tshh!*) (Oh geez, that's really scary actually )

Call me inexperienced, but I'm not familiar with the term "open world RP". Generally speaking no one really limits where roleplay can take place (except for maybe boss battles or other places where you have to concentrate on fighting) it's just that people tend to spend most of their time where they live, and that's usually in the city. Is there something different about what you had in mind?

Hahaha Nel looks so happy!

If that's true, we're looking at as many as 72 hair styles available to any given character, which might actually be possible if they made it so that many of them aren't race exclusive. We've already seen one of the Miqo'te hairstyles available for the Roeg males, so it's not like there isn't a precedent.

Welcome to the RPC, dear! I'm sure you know this by now, but in ARR breast sizes are customizable, so having a character with a smaller bust is a possibility. You can still see them, unfortunately, but they'll be less noticeable.

Hmm...this might require another character height comparison...

This is a great idea. I did one a little while ago myself for a different thread.

That Mtoto is very industrious. x3 Don't wear yourself out, okay?

It seems to me that clans would be more about identity than pure heritage. There are traits that define certain clans, but that's about it. I figure the best analogue is how race tends to be defined in everyday life. Everyone has some overlap with other races, and some people do identify as multiracial, but sometimes— if they don't have too many defining traits either way— people can and do choose what race they feel they fit into instead of making a new category for themselves.

Ferne is back with another helping of table scraps meat and popotoes for everyone to dig into. Sounds like Limsa Lominsa is going to be less standing around doing nothing and more Disneyland's Pirates of the Caribbean Ride. This is going to be fun... ~Ellie

Shiro would probably be Mint Chocolate Chip.

Gorgeous stuff, Mtoto, I love it!

Yssen, I think you may be misunderstanding what the poll said. It didn't ask who was for or against adding Player NPC pages, it asked who would make use of them. It's not the same as asking if people whether they're for or against it. I'm trying to understand all sides of this myself, because I know what it's like when people want to change something you worked really hard to make, but I also don't want to feel like I have to clutter my character page with my NPC's life story before I get to why she's relevant to my character. For now, this is only making people angry and turning us against each other. I really don't want that. Having a separate page for my NPCs isn't important enough to me that I'm willing to contribute to the divisiveness over it. So please, everyone, let's just... At the very least until we can figure out a solution that's fair for everyone.

I answered yes mostly because the question was "Would you use it?" (I would, actually) and not "Do you think it's a good idea?" I'll be fine with whatever's decided, I think, but If the issue is that it will create too much clutter in the character section, why not make a subcategory for player NPCs so that they have their own little place, and people who want to ignore them can?

Quick reminder for everyone to remember that the NDA is still in effect for information derived from the beta that hasn't already been released. That said, the only thing that comes to mind right now from playing botanist in 1.0 are the Thanalan Tea Leaves, but there might be more references to more somewhere. Perhaps searching some of the older item databases? EDIT: Actually a quick search on Eorzeapedia turned up a lot more information than I thought was there.

It looks really good so far for being a beginner! (I'm also a big Mark Crilley fan <3) I'd recommend putting less space between the character's eyes. Generally speaking you'll want them to be one eye width apart. You can be a little liberal with that spacing for style (especially if you're doing something like super deformed) but it looks like you're giving this one nearly two eye-widths of space between the eyes, and it's making it look slightly odd. You might also want to either raise the eyes or lower the nose and mouth for a little more evenness. The ears you can also be flexible with, but generally speaking you'll want the top of your ears to be roughly level with either the eyebrows or upper eyelid. Again, great work! I hope to see you practice more, because that's the key to getting better. Practice practice practice.
