discussion Why FFXIV's rape themes fall monumentally flat
Domri Blackblade replied to Seriphyn's topic in Lore Discussion
No, I think I will. How about you answer if that's really the point of this thread? For you, in fact, to be the edgy one. -
discussion Why FFXIV's rape themes fall monumentally flat
Domri Blackblade replied to Seriphyn's topic in Lore Discussion
Remember kids, any remotely dark theme is super edgy and all this game has room for is cotton candy and midgets with the voices of Alan Rickman. What the fuck is your point? You don't like the direction of the story? Is that really all this post is? -
discussion Why FFXIV's rape themes fall monumentally flat

Rachel puts on her Ru Paul wig and raises binoculars and says, "I cannot wait to see how this turns out." Thereby, she turned it into a discussion post and not a meme because apparently gender equality means the elimination of sexism. -

If it's IC who gives a damn how aggressive or not it is? IC isn't OOC. It seems your character's understanding of Ala Mhigans is pretty one dimensional and misguided, doing that thing where they judge all Ala Mhigans based off the sort that hang around LAM. Which is fine. If you're asking a more well rounded way to understand Ala Mhigans and make it all seem less shallow, just know that it's not a purely Mhigan characteristic to be a brute. They were some of the biggest engineers and brightest minds from a technological advancement standpoint. There were different layers of society from what we know of the royals vs the rabble. There's a huge master post floating around on all the gathere AM history that we are aware of. Otherwise, don't pay any mind to OOC. If someone's getting offended over IC because your character doesn't like them and misunderstands much of their culture, that's not really your fault or responsibility.

If you can't find RP? That's a YOU problem. Not another person's problem. Stop being so entitled that people owe you roleplay. If you can't find it, it's your problem, no one else's. Maybe just, you know, step up instead of whine. You know, I don't recall stating that anyone should be entitled to RP. Instead, I've been saying that you're a giant turd if you go to a public event to not publicly RP, then proceed to tell people that's their fault they can't find RP. I understand that Ala Mhigans are probably incapable of reading in the game, but you can drop character in the real world, you know. Get over yourself. Just post at someone and poke them in PMs and they'll RP with you. It's really not hard.

There is actually a Resistance linkshell if you were interested. Look for Adun Blackblade or Avelyn Firestone! Would help you with those connections! Both of us are also super open to connections.~ -
Au Ra Origins: The Dawn & Dusk Theory [Spoilers]
Domri Blackblade replied to Ren Mistwalker's topic in Lore Discussion
Yes, dear. Alright, my two cents is I think in original concept, you're completely right. I don't think they were meant to be demonic in nature until they continued to develop it more and were like, "OOOOOPS!" So that's where I praise you. However, they did move away from that in implementation. I believe the original blurb said that Eorzeans mistakenly view them as dragon spawn. I think it was a crappy attempt at making them relevant to Isghard and the HW expansion in general. Personally, I would have saved them for whenever our Othardian expansion is dropping so we could actually delve into some interesting. Right now, they're p much a half finished race with a mixed sense of direction from those who wrote them, in my honest opinion. -
Truthfully, Adun had no idea what he wanted to do now that he'd been given the time off to decide. He was a man driven by structure. Frequently, free time with him was just more training with either his family or other individuals, and the both of them were unavailable. Unless his mother and sister were free and around, he had no idea what to do with himself in free time. That wasn't to say he was without friends. There were people around whom he got to know on a friendly level and even spent time with, but his drive to continue to excel usually had him not a part of the groups that went out to socialize. It was satisfactory enough for them to invite him, at least, since there was always a chance he came off unapproachable because of his priorities. At the sound of another voice, Adun was pulled from his thoughts and looked up at being addressed. His lips tugged into a warm smile when he saw that it was Avelina. He wasn't entirely sure if she was closer to his age or his brother's, but she was always more on his level of skill. It would be a lie if he said he didn't admire that about her just a little bit. "Sister Avelina, it's good to see you as always," he greeted with a soft smile. Subconsciously, he reached up and smoothed over his damp, sweaty hair away from his eyes so he could see her better. "You do not interrupt me, no. I actually only finished with my father and was trying to decide what to do next. Did you intend to use this room to train? I can be out of here before you know it." He hopped to his feet and bowed swiftly at his shoulders to her. It was when he stood that he noted that she was currently alone and it tempted him quite a bit to offer to train with her. After all, Ral could not fault him for helping out one of his peers, no?

Counterpoint: Lore adherence is frequently used as a defense for uninteresting characters, and "correctness" is often, wrongly, seen as inherently interesting. Uh, no. Good personality makes a good character. IDK if you're Lord Jesus Christ reincarnated in Eorzea or a merchant that sells moldy popotoes.
-
Characters that are well remembered are ones with a well written personality. Their feats, class, backstory, and anything else, to me, is secondary. Flawed, innocent, egotistical, timid. Doesn't matter the kind of character, only that it stands out as an individual. So yes, a generic thief could be interesting. I wrote a character who could not fight or heal and RPed him for nearly 8 years and he was extremely well received by the communities I RPed him.

The snap of heavy cloth against the surface of skin echoed in the empty room of the temple as the young monk's kick shot through the air. His foot fell to the ground with an absolute softness, light weight on the ball of his foot as he rotated and continued to perform his form with a much practiced crispness and precision. Soft beads of sweat dotted his forehead, creased in a frown of complete and total concentration. Circling the young monk was a much older one of similar dark brown hair and vibrant blue eyes, Ral. He raised his leg in a powerful kick aimed at his son's side, shoved him roughly, struck at his stomach. They were all efforts to knock the young man off balance or distract him from his form. Efforts that'd failed much to the elder monk's satisfaction. "Good," Ral growled out once his son finished his form. His lips pulled into a wide grin as he ruffled Adun's hair. "Criticisms, sir?" Adun asked, though his lips could not resist twitching into into a proud, albeit faint smile. His dark hair clung to his forehead and his chest rose in fell in deep breaths as he looked up to the other man. "Aye. Take a rest so I can go see your brother. I should like to see my eldest son outside of this room every so often." Ral playfully shoved Adun back a bit and shook his head. Raising a finger up, he motioned to the doors that led outside of the room. "Go on." Waving his hand in defeat, Adun nodded with a small sigh. "Aye, alright. Alright," he responded with a soft laugh. Bowing respectfully, he took a few steps back and turned towards the door. Ral had passed him on his way out, bowing just before exiting the room, and leaving Adun alone for the moment. Lingering back, he loosened the cloth he wrapped around his wrists and glanced around. His life was in these walls and rarely outside of them. It was the price he paid to ascend in his training to where he was now. He was his father's legacy and protege. The weight of expectation and legacy was completely on his shoulders. Exhaling a soft breath, he sat down along the wall, and let his head fall back against the surface.

I genuinely believe they made the dragoon numbers so low to purport just how powerful they are. It's supposed to be rare, that's why there are so few. At least, that's my interpretation. If I were to be RPing a DRG prior to this knowledge (and I swear we already knew DRGs were low in number but I can't source why I feel that way, RIP) I would downgrade to an aspiring DRG, failed training for the actual title, etc. I think it would take less twisting of stated words and presumption. When we RP jobs, we run that risk. I'm someone who personally runs that risk that my understanding of lore can change at an moment and I make sure to have a back up for it. But I think people are looking at the numbers and what that could be trying to state. Dragoons are extremely powerful.

Hey! I gave your wiki a read and I think the two of them could definitely be interesting around each other. Similar, yet different! Will toss you a PM! I'm sure we could come up with something that at least gets Gan talking! He might do enough of it under the right circumstances! Oooh! They're dynamic could be pretty cool considering they will have some different outlooks and he will likely be interested in people from Doman culture! I'd love to set something up.
-
Let's make this happen! We should toss them at each other as soon as possible! Will give your wikis a read ant message you back! Might be a bit of a wait cause I have to head out soon, but will get to it today! Since it seems to be most convenient for the both of us, i'll go ahead and just send a quick PM. Got it!
-
Just gave your wiki a read! I can do either forum or in game as well! Forum might also be slightly more convenient as I can bang it out at pretty much any time of day or when I have low availability in game. But I'm equally open to both! Perhaps we could have them bump into each other at the Guild, either over books or just in general!

Hi. I'm going to pretend that I didn't vanish off the face of the planet for the better part of a year. Anyway, I finally have my Au Ra. I also even bothered to write a wiki. That saves me having to figure out all the stuff to write here. Cause we all know I'm terrible at that. Before I start rambling: >> Here is the link to my glorious work! << In a nutshell for those who clicked that and just went, "TL;DR": Gan is probably the most relaxed, easygoing person I have written ever. He is passionate about magic and aether manipulation of any sort as well as anything remotely creative. Music is one of his number one things and he plays the flute! Always has it on hand. Alwayyys. He is constantly fascinated with other cultures and anyone with any sort of stories or insight on anything foreign to him is immediately loved. He's ever curious about everything and interested in nearly anything. Only thing he is bad at is small talk. Anyway, I don't want to spend too much time reiterating things already covered in that nifty link. How Can We Make Connections Happen? Your character has spent any sort of time in the Thaumaturge Guild. Gan likes to frequent the place, though he typically does so at weird hours of night. It's kind of a way for him to wind down. Your character is from Othard. Gan was born and raised in Othard and was a part of a tribe. Through, he was prone to sneaking away to explore various places. It's plausible he could have come across many things. Your character is aware of the destruction of his tribe. I won't list too many details here, but if you are interested in being a part of his past and maybe even possibly his old tribe, just let me know. Perhaps they bumped into each other in travels. Gan explores and wanders a lot! Maybe he bumped into some wandering adventurers, participated on a job to explore some secret ruins, shared a drink or played his flute for people in a random inn! The possibilities here are endless and we can brainstorm some history together! Any ideas you might have! I am extremely open to any sort of ideas you might come up with or think might fit as any form of connection! Don't hesitate to toss an idea out. I will more than likely excitedly agree to it. You just want to meet with no premise! Don't care about background and just want to RP! Great! Let me know! My Availability I tend to be more active in early evening to late night. My timezone is EST and I almost never sleep. Either way, my schedule is pretty flexible, though there may be times where I'm quiet cause of real life! I try to keep people updated on that, though. If you're still here, you're awesome. Hopefully I will hear back from some people! Also if I left something out, just let me know. I'm no good at this!
