  1. Well yes i can defiantly agree on and i like when characters end on a good note, but there are people who, like me, don't just stop RPing once a character they really really liked is finally on his closing chapter and is gone for good. Im not saying that character have to die or any such nonsense like that so don't worry, but sometimes unpredictable things happen that can having a very large consequence on a character, such as close ones dying, losing a limb somehow, being stuck in a chair for quite some time, or in this case. Dying. This is true. However, speaking from personal experience here, I am no longer willing to let random strangers have the power to end my character's story. If my character dies, it'll be because I've decided that it fits, not because some random yahoo decided he was "bored" and wanted to kill someone.
  2. I'm of the personal opinion that every story has an end point. However, where that end point is is up to the individual player.
  3. I think we may have just lost the other one in the crush of posts. Thanks for merging them!
  4. If you join our Free Company, you get to make fun of Garryson. I promise you, it's highly entertaining!
  5. Intermission filled up the first day of Early Access, if I'm not mistaken. But there's a second Linkshell, Intermission 2, that isn't full yet. The people that I see with invite powers are: Xenedra Ambreaus Kassandra Dawn Ayusun Demiir Rakka'li Kuhn Rakka'sae Kuhn Gospel Gestalt Tyriont Gaidal Rhostel Evenhand Yssen Van Penelope Rundall Niklaus Lucin So I would send a tell to one of them and ask for an invite. There's about 20 more slots left on the linkshell.
  6. I tend to have trouble RPing multiple characters at a time (I prefer to focus on one character) so this is just ducky for me. lol.
  7. I don't know much about the way raids work in this game, but I can speak from experience as a hardcore raider in WoW. The composition a group chooses depends heavily on the buffs each class brings, their raid utility, and exactly how shitty the fight is for Melee. I say "melee" because I can think of like, maybe two fights offhand where Melee have an advantage over ranged. >.> And even then it's fairly spurious how much of an "advantage" they have. In my experience in this game, a nice balanced comp seems to be two Melee (one tank, one melee DPS) and two ranged (one healer, one ranged caster or ranged physical DPS). It does seem significantly harder on certain fights to bring multiple melee (a few of the fights in Halatali come to mind, as well as the last boss in Haukke Manor, etc) because there are ranged things that need doing and it takes longer for a Melee to get out there and do them. Or, in other cases there is just a high chance of lava suddenly appearing under your feet and you are probably going to have to move more than a ranged might (the "rings" of lava on the Ifrit encounter come to mind, as if you know the fight you can position yourself as ranged to be on the edge of whatever is going to come out in order to minimize movement, but melee don't really have that luxury in my experience).
  8. Store your stuff on your retainers. Including items bound to you.
  9. This one is growing on me, altho I think the shoes are a bit silly: @Koyu: Spandex is not in. Spandex is never in. Away with you, foul fiend!!!
  10. That hat is quite literally the reason I leveled Weaving.
  11. Usually has a third or double the HP more than the average tank. Never go soloing without it. Arcanist for the win! Yeah, it also seems to have far higher threat generation. The only thing that it can't pull off of is a Medica-spamming healer. Then again, Medica seems to generate more threat than Flash. I'm pretty sure it's counting Overheal against you.
  12. You only have to get Arcanist to 15 to play White Mage. You don't get Topaz Carbuncle until 15 anyway and if you really don't like damage dealing, you can just stop there.
  13. I've just about given up on pugging. The tanks in my FC are good. My friend (who is the reason I'm playing this game, tho he's not an RPer!) is excellent. But I keep getting Derpy McDerpistan as tanks in random pugs. On the other hand, I've love to run with ya sometime. As someone who is a healer: I thank you for that. There are many times in which I have had heals interrupted by being attacked which puts everyone at risk if it continues on. I'd rather have to heal a tank and the pet tanking vs try to heal myself and the tank while fighting through interruptions. And guess what! You don't have to heal my pet, because I have a spell to do just that for you. And yes I will, to take the pressure off you.
  14. I think you misunderstand what I was saying. I never let my Carby loose in a dungeon. Even the Emerald one will knock your mobs back if it gets in melee range. However, I keep getting into dungeons where the tank ignores one or more adds and they beeline for the healer. In that situation, yes, I will pull the Topaz Carby out and sic it on whatever add is beating the healer's face in. I do this because it's happened to me as a healer so many times in this game. Otherwise, when I have my Topaz Carby out, he sits on passive and I actually take a rather large DPS hit for not only having him out but having him do nothing in hopes the tank will do his job. The last tank I got on my Arcanist...I don't even know what was on his mind. He would RP walk up to the mobs and /wave at them, then hit one and ignore the others. What is Flash? Oh, I'll use it when the mobs are nowhere near me. That's how it works, right? Right? If someone has a Topaz carby out and it's pulling off you, tell them to put it away or on passive. But I'ma keep using mine because apparently most tanks in this game still aren't sure how to...well...tank.
  15. If there's music in the background, yes. It would seem to.
  16. Sure. It also means you'll never have fun machinima. You'll never have raid kill videos that have sound other than what's in the game. You won't see game guides for the most part. Most won't stream (because you can't display the video with third party music). Etc.
  17. Really? D: I've loved the gear I've seen so far.
  18. Doesn't actually matter unless you're in Japan. They have to abide by the Fair Use laws in the US for stuff put up in the US, the ones in Canada for Canadian players, etc. However, I think this is a terrible move. WoW embraced Machinima artists and it has spawned a very healthy, very good-looking genre that puts the game in a great light (and attracts people who might not have otherwise been interested in the game). Square would be wise to consider the ramifications of restricting people so severely. This is basically going to ensure that we don't have machinima artists for FFXIV and that's a real shame. And in case you're wondering, when a company embraces machinima artists, you get ones like Ember Isolte, who just released this: ZDf04mWLiw4
  19. I don't actually think that's the case. The servers are manually locked, but they said that it was in an effort to keep yet more people from trying to play on them when they're already slammed. Initially after Beta 4/Early Access started, they would lock some servers, then unlock them later when the population pressure eased. That's how I was able to make Liadan the Saturday morning after Beta 4 started. I know people who were able to make characters on both Balmung and Gilgamesh during the wee hours of the morning during Early Access, but at some point they must have felt that they simply couldn't allow that because of the great pressure on those servers from logins. The thing is, character data doesn't take up space on the server itself, nor is it preventing you from logging in. You could have 1 character made on a server, or 100k and it wouldn't make a huge amount of difference. Even on the highest population servers in WoW, the currently online population is like, 1/8th (if that) of the actual number of characters that exist on that server. So there's nothing to suggest that Square won't actually open up character creation once the servers are upgraded and stabilized.
  20. I really, really think that the lack of the queue makes things so much worse.
  21. Someone told me that in FFXI, it was necessary to stay logged in as much as possible. It may be that those players are old FFXI players and that's why they're staying logged in 100% of the time. As long as you're moving around, a long dungeon queue shouldn't be an issue. You need to stay close enough to your computer to take it anyway.
  22. I'm not sure. I'm hoping that's not the case, because that means a lot of guilds won't be releasing kill videos of raid bosses. :-\
  23. Haha, that set is my current favorite. At least until I get my White Mage gear.
  24. That's because you're erroring out. People sitting in their inn rooms with nothing that could crash/DC them aren't going to be kicked by errors because they're not moving, not doing anything.
