Re: tails I actually wonder- cats and dogs have a big bundle of nerves that connect to the base of their tail. If the tail is pulled hard enough, it can damage that bundle of nerves and actually cause paralysis to the legs/lower part of the spine. It would be an interesting weakness to have to protect against, considering armor doesn't really protect against pulling/ grabbing and all their armor has a tail slot for it to wag around instead of actually protecting the tail (which is prone to all sorts of injuries- degloving, breaking, being caught in doorways...) I imagine that miqo'te that fight very rarely have full-length tails in actuality and that most of them have sustained some sort of injury to their tail...

The Pro's and Con's of each Weapon type for RP combat.
Fates Skein replied to Enzo's topic in Character Workshop
Fantastic thread! A very interesting read and I absolutely love that you put a bit about the guisarme (and specifically the Hart Guisarme) in! I am looking forward to your next installments about fist weapons with a great deal of interest. -
One of my characters does use small 'daggers' or small knives, as well as poisoned blades, needles, other dodgy not-so-nice weaponry. I'd love, love, love to have a fan item in game so I could play a character with a war fan, it's one of those eastern aesthetic weapons that I loved using in things like Exalted or L5R but have never gotten a chance to use in an MMO...

I'm one of those miqo'te RPers that treads on the 'more animalistic than Hyur' for my miqo'te. A lot of C'rhisi's biology and mannerisms are based on lionesses. Mahvashi is based primarily on smaller 'big cats' like caracals, ocelots, things like that. I think there's a wealth of RP opportunities on basing certain things on big cat social behavior versus domesticated cat social behavior. Big cats (especially the really social ones like lions) have really complicated social structures in the wild that can change and adapt even to what kind of environment they live in. Then you have big cats like tigers or leopards that are very minimally social, or even large predators that aren't feline like wild dogs that are matriarchal and you can find a lot of neat inspirations for 'wild animal' behavior if you're looking for stuff beyond the domesticated cat for inspiration. I love that miqo'te have some acknowledged wild aspects to them and I absolutely play this up. Part of why I play miqo'te is because they're not Hyur with big ears and a tail, they've got their own unique biologies, societies, cultures, all sorts of fun RP hooks.

Ohhhh, I understand now. She's got it in a jar somewhere, doesn't she? *nods to herself* It's okay, Kage darling. Vashi will confine herself to yearning glances and long-suffering sighs. *sigh*
-
*le gasp* He regrets that kiss?? Vashi is filling her journal with little hearts and real cursive writing saying "Vashi Kiryuu". *runs away and cries forever*

Now, now. Pecs are fine too. ... Pecs are also acceptable. Muscle-y.

There will never be enough Highlanders. *grabs Merc and gestures at the horizon* Abs for days....

Hmmm. This subject has always fascinated me. I draw a lot of influence from archetypes with elements from literature, music, television, movies, things that I enjoy. I do draw on certain parts of myself to a small degree but often try and put the elements of myself in juxtaposition with things that I -don't- display. Specifics are difficult but some common themes that I do try and work into my characters are love of song and/or dance, intelligence (often my characters are smarter than they appear/act), and a love of all things esoteric- though my current characters have trended away from that towards more 'mundane' studies. I like introspecting into the influences that drive a character, I think it helps encourage people to create three-dimensional personalities.

C'rhisi is a bard and is talented on a number of instruments, though her voice is what she's most skilled at. Mahvashi...hmmm. She'd probably be good at things requiring good dexterity- I'd love to think she'd be good at violin, sort of a miqo'te Lindsey Sterling. *laughs* That may be a bit of wish fulfillment, though.

Who would be your character's voice actor?
Fates Skein replied to TheLastCandle's topic in Fun Prompts
For Mahvashi, the immortal Kathleen Turner, especially when she was a young woman. cIDnSuDPWhc For C'rhisi...hmmmm that's a difficult one. I'm honestly not certain. Anyone that's RP'd with her have any ideas? -
Nice to see you on the RPC! It was great 'meeting' Howl at the Grindstone, look forward to RPing with you more.

Rhisi's Songs and Stories ((OOC feedback welcome))
Fates Skein replied to Fates Skein's topic in Town Square (IC)
((Reviving, as C'rhisi is back in Eorzea and singing away!)) Song of Home When I was a child I thought as a child I dreamed as a child I am a child no more. In the song of the wind, There is a name That sings to me of home. I chased my dream From the Indigo Deep To the Sea of Jade But the dream led ever onward And so I left And walked the world- I danced and sang so gaily. In the cry of the wind There is a name That makes me dream of home. Through Garlean cities With names of steel I sang, And danced a path of danger. Along the knife My feet trod light And my dream, it left me lonely. In the whisper of the wind I hear my name- And it will lead me home. At last I stood On foreign shores and gazed at the eye Of the storm And it swept me up- It turned me 'round Until my eyes saw truly. I hear you, o wind, I hear your name I sing a song of home From west to east How I have wandered Only to find My way back home. -
I like a good combination of rolls and free-form/pre-determined combat. IE: OOCly discuss what I and the others in the combat would like it to accomplish, who will end up winning, any major wounds/disfigurements we're open to, then use rolls to actually decide who hits on which attacks. I've found that my time in the Grindstone has really made the simplicity of a d100 roll appealing.
-
Just wanted to pop in and say that though I didn't get a chance to sit and talk with you, I loved the glimpse into the character that I got at the OS&R event and sincerely look forward to the chance for C'rhisi and Yangh to chat and discuss the various merits and pitfalls to different kinds of magic!

I've spent some time talking to the NPCs around the aetheryte in Gridania, they have some interesting flavor text in regards to aetherytes, aether travel, all that kind of stuff. For me personally, I tend to play it as my more atherially-aspected characters (my magic users) have more ease attuning to and using aetherytes whereas my more mundane characters tend more towards things like missed connections (landing in the wrong place), aether sickness, that kind of thing. As I'm currently only playing adventurer types, all of them have enough aether to actually -use- the crystals, but I could definitely see someone being 'aether blind' being a possibility. Re: teleportation as Deus ex Machina: I think that as with any combat related action, good communication is key in this. Teleportation is a spell and spells can be interrupted (temporarily like a knock back or permanently where the spell is lost). The element of chance needs to be a part of the scene when it comes to someone using teleport to get away. If it's part of the story that the person -has- to get away (a recurring villain, for instance) then there should be some OOC communication there.

I'd totally go with Elezen/Roe (specifically Duskwight/Hellsguard). I think it would end up looking a bit like Merlwyb...
-
Hmmmm. Okay, so if she actually likes them... I'd say 5. 5 burgerocity.

Ugh, Mahvashi's score would be 0. She'd take a bite then spit it out and demand real food.
-
I'll do 3. - Despite working in the veterinary field for 5 years, the only time I've ever been seriously bitten was by a horse when I was 6. He bit me on the cheek. - I had to have 10 stitches when a cow tried to jump over a fence I was standing on and busted my chin open. - I enjoy bellydancing.

I am so in on this! Murder mystery games/murder mystery theater is usually run where the people 'hosting' the event are actors/actresses. One designated as the 'killer'. Then people come and have dinner/dance/etc and while the guests are there, someone runs into the room and says "oh my gosh, such-and-such is dead!" and the guests have to figure out which of the hosts is the killer before they kill everyone. It's a lot of fun, can be very silly (depending on the tone set at the beginning) or even be kind of like an Agatha Christie novel. ^.^ Mahvashi and C'rhisi both would be available to be used as part of the hosting group/actresses if you need any!
