  1. Because that's kind of a bad reason for not wanting to be a part of an RP community, besides I promise you it will only take a few weeks before all the Redditors and 4chaners are max level, long before any RPer is. What your basically saying here is you don't want to RP with us because we're higher level than you... Please don't put words in my mouth. I'm excited because of this game at launch because of just that, it's at LAUNCH. I want the experience of playing with a community that will level alongside me, at least for a time. A lot of us want a non-legacy realm for just that reason, trail-blazing. I'd love to RP with you guys on Balmung, and your level has NOTHING to do with that. However, this is first and foremost what? A game. And your level has EVERYTHING to do with me playing with you. I don't want to start on a "brand" new game with a bunch of people already 400 miles ahead of me. I want to build a community. Now please stop bringing up this matter and get back to the topic at hand. Whether or not people want to stick with Gilgamesh as the non-legacy RP realm. I wasn't putting words in your mouth, I was merely paraphrasing your own words. I've bolding the above quote where you specifically stated you didn't want to be on our server because of our levels. Also ARR isn't a new game, it's the Cataclysm expansion from WoW. Complete with enormous world destroying dragon and everything. Cataclysm didn't let people roll on new realms and force high level players to stay on theirs. I'm an avid WoW player (or I was until I cancelled my sub for FFXIV:ARR a week ago). Had Blizzard done that? I would be doing the same thing. You are comparing two entirely different entities. Cata was an expansion, A Realm Reborn is a complete revamp of the whole game. Being similar in story does not make them similar in aspect. And paraphrasing is just as bad as putting words in someone's mouth. You have to assume to paraphrase, and assumptions can be very wrong. Like I said, your level has nothing to do with me wanting to be part of the Balmung RP community, it does however deter me from wanting to play on the realm. I won't be responding to any other posts on this subject from here, please get back on topic.

  3. I vote sticking with Gilgamesh. A lot of people are going to say "DUDE JUST COME TO BALMUNG". To them I say "No." Why? Because A Realm Reborn is pretty much a NEW game. Why would I want to roll on a realm where everyone is already max level on a brand spanking new game? If you ask me, Gilgamesh's cesspool like population will make playing more diverse, and therefor? Interesting. There will be griefers no matter which realm we select. Picking Leviathan, Behemoth, or any other realm instead of Gilgamesh THIS close to launch will only cause MASSIVE confusion.
  4. A big thanks to all of you! Here, I shall award you all a chocobo for the warm welcome. :chocobo::chocobo::chocobo:
  5. I would have to agree. This is why I pitched the idea of Gunblades for Blue Mages. However, it was also pointed out that this one wasn't a niche fit. Given that? I feel that (as suggested before) whips are a GREAT idea for a BLU if they are to be implemented. Or you could even go the FFX route, and make them a branch job from Lancers that uses polearms. Either one would work. (I'm in favor of whips, specifically bladed ones) Where do I sign?
  6. Not necessarily my friend. An MMO I played a few years back by the name of R.O.S.E. Online had a very simple answer to this very same problem. They made dual swords a SINGLE item. Instead of equipping two different swords, you would equip one item that is a PAIR of swords. Thus solving the itemization issue altogether, as well as the armoury confliction problem LOL I literally said that in order for dual wielding to work they would have to do this in the exact same paragraph that you quoted from. Welp, color me retarded. Point is we came to the same conclusion.

  8. GOD yes. But wouldn't they then have to make Scimitars a completely separate weapon type? Kinda splitting hairs to make them different from standard one-handed swords... Hm...
  9. Interesting... I never thought to make them perform like Quistis, that would most definitely work too. You sir have given me additional hope that my favorite class will be implemented. I have zero issues using a whip, especially if it's a bladed one. Well, I didn't mean that it was a practice employed by the garleans. Or even that we'd use their model of gunblades. Outside sources, same weaponry. But I do see your point, it could complicate things.
  10. Okay just a quick link and a synopsis for those whom don't know what a Blue Mage is: http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Blue_Mage Blue Mages, as their name implies, focus on Blue Magic, a special subset of Magic that allows them to use attacks otherwise exclusive to enemies. While an odd choice, Blue Mages often have a wide range of usefulness due to the varied spells they gain. Blue Mages usually learn Blue Magic by having enemies (or occasionally, another Blue Mage ally) use it on them, but some games have other methods to learn their magic. For those of you whom did not play Final Fantasy XI, Blue Mages were a hybrid Melee/Caster DPS class. Something FFXIV doesn't have yet. Know what else Blue Mages have been called? Gun Mages. In certain games (Final Fantasy X-2 comes to mind), Blue Mages were incarnated as "Gun Mages", simply a ranged DPS variant of what is usually physical. What else does Final Fantasy XIV not have? (And just hear me out here...) Gunblades. You know, those things the Garlean Empire is consistently pointing at us? That big thing that that one dude used in that other Final Fantasy game? I think his name was Scarface? (...Poor joke taste maybe? C'mon people gimmie a pity laugh or something here.) Now what about this, what about a Blue Mage variant class whom uses Gunblades? Think about it, you are using the enemy's weapon, and learning other enemy's skills to use with it. It could be explained as some sort of machina/magitek based class (rather the gun learns the skill instead of you), etc... But the idea being the same, a hybrid melee/caster class whom uses gunblades that cast enemy abilities. Just an idea I'm musing, I loved my old BLU back in XI and would love to see them in some form in XIV. Given the fact that they typically use one-handed sword however, the odds of a traditional implementation of them is a tad awkward considering using a one-handed sword is more of a GLD/PLD deal. (They'd have to tweak the armory system to make it work really. Unless it was another advanced job for GLD, which makes little sense.) Thoughts?
  11. It's okay, I am super guilty of this as well. It's probably my favorite thing to do.
  12. I pretty much went for a hybrid of the following. (Personality speaking) Riku - Kingdom Hearts Series (PS2, GBA, DS, 3DS, Mobile) Terra - Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep (PSP) Zack - Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core (PSP) Haseo - .Hack//G.U. Series (PS2) Nero - Devil May Cry 4 (PS3) Mugen - Samurai Champloo (Anime) ...I think an abundance of inspiration is an understatement here.
  13. For starters, this isn't the proper forum for this sort of question. You'd generally be better off posting a topic like this over in the RP Discussion forums. That being said, how you level a character has never, and WILL never influence whether you can, or cannot RP. RP exists apart from standard ingame mechanics, it in no way relies on them. So to answer your question? Yes, you can grind mobs on your character and still be an active roleplayer.
  14. I see. Well, thank you all very much for your input. You have assured me a little bit at the least. I'd be lying if I said I still wasn't a bit worried. But I suppose it'll have to do until I can get myself a PS4. Thanks for the posts guys.
  15. Okay so, I figured I'd just make a thread on this so I can get an idea of what I'm getting myself into. I typically game MMOs on my laptop, but given the age of the thing (pushing 5) and it's low benchmark score of 1923 on the LOWEST graphic settings, it cannot run FFXIV:ARR. Knowing this, I took my Gen 1 PS3 (lolfat80GBversion), which had been nothing more than a $600 paperweight for the last few years, and resolved to use that. Given that PS3's are fairly powerful in hardware power, I thought I would run the game with no issue. Right? ...RIGHT?! No seriously, right? I'm asking. From what I understand, the PS3 experiences fair slow-down in heavily populated areas. Not to mention that I've been reading some horror story reviews of players and monsters not loading at all. Can anyone whom has beta tested on a PS3 give me some feedback? Is this thing going to run better than my laptop's low score? If so, where would you rate it compared to an average PC? Am I going to encounter loading errors such as other players and enemies not loading? I mean I have a really decent internet connection. But I REALLY want to play, so this stuff worries me.
  16. Off-topic I know, but does the PS3 really experience considerable slow-down? My laptop cannot run FFXIV, so I resolved to pre-order the PS3 variant hoping I would be alright. Please tell me this isn't a concern. There is pop-up when it gets crowded. Also the graphics are pared down. It's still playable on all counts. No worries. I'll be using it until the PS4 version comes out. I see... Thank you. I'm still a tad worried however. I'm not a fan of major slowdown when I'm just hanging out in town.

  18. Yeesh guys, you didn't have to tell me I was incorrect THREE times. I get it, I'm misinformed. My buddy is a Legacy player and told me that's how it is, so I took his word for it. Carry on. I apologize. However, more on topic? In spite of this, I'll still be rolling on Gilgamesh. I'm treating this like a brand new game. Why would I want to be on a server full of characters who are already max level?
  19. You answered your own question. Balmung is only for Legacy players, meaning people who played the original FFXIV. You will not be able to roll a new character there for QUITE some time. Gilgamesh or bust my friend.
  20. What am I playing? Uhm... Nothing really. I cancelled my World of Warcraft sub because it got super boring. So I'm mostly just doing my best to past time until FFXIV:ARR launches. I only play one MMO at a time ever. Games I'm waiting for: Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn Final Fantasy XV Kingdom Hearts III Armored Core V: Verdict Day Pokemon X & Y Versions DON'T JUDGE MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
  21. As a fellow newbie with a similar background I must say... :moogle::moogle::moogle::moogle::moogle::moogle::moogle::moogle::moogle::moogle::moogle: WELCOME!:moogle::moogle::moogle::moogle::moogle::moogle::moogle::moogle::moogle::moogle::moogle::moogle: The community here is great. The game hasn't even launched yet and everyone is super accommodating and inclusive. You should feel right at home, I know I did.
  22. A solid 7/10. From first glance it appears to follow the proper naming scheme, but it's a tad on the masculine side. I also feel it's a bit, dare I say... Bland? For lack of a better word. Not trying to offend by any means, it just feels a bit generic. Still though, it's a very good, solid name.
