    Balmung!

Yep, I can confirm this. So hopefully soon™.
  2. You're Size Queen! I took this during EA because I was all "Holy crap the size of this Roe!" *Takes screenshot* (For reference, I'm the maximum height of a Hyur midlander)
  3. I definitely love the uniform. So much I'd like my character to join them ICly when the time comes. I was very close to going with the Twin Adders for that uniform alone! It all looks very cool. Also I manged to put this together for the Gala last night. I think I know what I'll wear if I ever want to RP a highwayman
  4. It's interesting that you mention Necromancy, because you're right I haven't seen it mentioned any where either, but you only have to go to the Deepcroft to see the undead shambling about. Restless spirits, trapped in a corporeal form maybe, but it seems likely they were raised by Cthulhu's son and his cultists, which makes me wonder if corrupted white magic was used to raise these dead. After all, healers can use the raise spell on the almost dead, so what happens if a particularly powerful mage forces it on the long dead? Is it possible that white magic becomes corrupted when used for unnatural purposes? I could easily see the corrupted white mages of old drawing on the aether to extend their physical life, or to bring loved ones back from the dead, like you say. (Torture is also a good suggestion! Fling a man with Aero, break his bones every time he's smashed against the wall while slinging cures at him. Gruesome)
  5. I'm in agreement that a separate forum/area is unnecessary for these events and I'd be happy as long as I could see a time zone next to the time and date. So I think [EU], [NA] etc would suffice in the title and as long as we have the time zone in the details, I think we'd be good.
  6. Wow, so many people! But that's good, maybe not so much for the event, but wasn't it awesome to see that many RPers made aware of the event and line up for it? I had fun though and met five very cool people with which I've been chatting to all night ICly, so at least from my perspective it was successful :moogle: Although dear gods my framerates.
  7. Unless you change your movement settings to 'Camera', under character settings. It's what I do for dungeons, basically if you press back, instead of walking backwards, your character will instantly turn 180 and start running while your camera is still facing forward. So WASD corresponds to the direction the character will run in, and means you don't have to orientate your camera with RMB or use left and right to turn your character, same kind of movement as 2D FF games. Really useful for avoiding AOE, but not so great for RP.
  8. No love for the Grand Companies? A nice blend of simplicity, elegance and badass.
  9. I have to admit, the only time I'll get hit by an AOE is if I'm in or on the edge of the red marker and that's exactly how it's supposed to be. I've only got up to Ifrit, so I can't say for any higher level stuff, but I'm sure I read in the beta patch notes that the red marker is an exact area of where the damage will be, so if you're still being hit outside of the marker, I'm thinking either lag or a glitch.
  10. That's the thing, an AFK timer is pointless. You can easily get around it, and when the servers are fully operational, there's going to be far less people AFKing because logging in won't be a problem. SE knows that, it's why they called an AFK timer a placebo solution and they're focused on fixing the servers first, because the servers are the actual problem and everything else is a product of that problem (like a large amount of players AFKing to avoid being locked out). Until now they kept dismissing the idea of an AFK timer. But hey, the majority of people want one, so if anything this shows us that they're listening to the players (or humouring them as the case may be). It's not like SE has never encountered AFKers before, it's why there is a timer on dungeons after all, they're just fully aware that it's not going to fix anything with regards to the server issues.
  11. This was posted last Friday, but it's a good read. Also, from the above link.
  12. -sigh- It's comments like these that upset me. It's not a fail launch. It's an unpredictably -amazing- launch, as far as SE is concerned. These problems are coming up now, because none of the betas were an accurate picture of the load they'd have. We didn't have log in issues in P2/P3. Well. Not issues related to server load, atleast. Open beta (P4) had some, but they were handled. EA had some, but they were handled. The game launched -ONE- week ago, and they have more than double, probably more than triple the people trying to log in now than they did in the betas and EA. EA had -no- sign that this was coming, and they're scrambling around trying to get their shit together. They're doing the best they can, given the circumstances... A game should never be considered a failed launch, untill atleast a month in. Deciding it within a week? You're not even giving it the chance it deserves. I would disagree, betas will never show the true numbers, as not everyone likes beta testing. They could easily get an idea of the pre-orders, which would represent the EA people. And from glancing through the internet you could tell the hype for FFXIV:ARR was pretty good. That should have gave them a better idea what was going to come. Heck, they struggled in EA. Pre-orders, regardless of what game, are usually only a small proportion of those who will actually buy the game. Sure, they're doing the best they can in the current circumstances, but that's no excuse - they should have been a lot better prepared. Bugs I can deal with, but locking people out of the game and not having a proper queue system to log in, especially considered they've launched more than one MMO? That's disappointing imho, considering they were re-releasing this as an "apology" for what 1.0 was. I'm not saying they should have had 100 servers at launch... but where were their contingency plans? They've said a few times now that they weren't given the numbers for copies sold from other retailers, and there's no way they could have predicted this huge influx before the start of early access. Browsing around on the internet for hype is also not a good indicator of potential customers. Fact is they could only account for digital downloads from their own store, digital downloads which cost ÂŁ5 more than their physical counterparts. Add to that, even if they had access to the preorder numbers from other retailers, such as Amazon, I wonder how many people, like me, preordered a couple of days before early access, waiting to check out the open beta first. What's happening right now is their contingency plan. I mean how were they supposed to prepare for certain specific failures, when these failures only appeared when the game went live? If they were able to predict that these problems would arise, they would have fixed them before they became problems, you know? I mean you can be sure that there's supposed to be a working login queue and that you're not supposed to be kicked by error 90k, and if these errors didn't exist, there would be no need to AFK either. So what do you do? You identify the problems, and fix them, which is exactly what they're doing now and if you read through their announcements, you'll see it wasn't as simple as not enough servers. SE screwed up, but they want to fix this as much as we want them to fix it and from my experience, being able to log in twice during peak hours first time, as opposed to waiting 30 minutes spamming numpad 0, it seems we're finally getting our solutions.
  13. This happened to me while I was halfway through a dungeon, at about the same time... and it seemed like I was with some decent randoms :cactuar:
  14. Temporary restrictions so they can monitor the situation.
  15. So if there was an AFK timer... What would prevent me from weighing down a movement key, or even making a keyboard macro so that my character would run around in circles without any input from me? I could just hook up a controller and tie up an analogue stick so it's shifted in one direction, and even use a turbo button feature to spam button whatever. To be totally honest I think SE are right in that an AFK timer is a placebo solution. I much prefer them focus on upgrading the software and hardware of their servers than hastily implementing an AFK timer that would solve nothing. If people want to AFK and stay in the game, they find a way. The issue is that SE didn't provide adequate servers for the player demand. Hopefully next week that will be fixed somewhat, but until then we're all in the same position. There's no need to start putting blame on people who are equally affected by SE's mistake, it just leads to a witch hunt and in community fighting and the best part? None of this will matter when SE has fixed the server overload, because it will be fixed, just like every other game that had an appalling launch due to server issues.
  16. Ohh ho, mayhaps you be a VIII fan? If so this should make you pretty happy. I can't help but imagine a "tinkling" sound (not the peeing kind but the fairy kind) as you approach, still, considering I don't even know cure, I won't complain
  17. On a positive note, it's really cool that NPCs, even chocobos actually look at you when you walk up to them. Makes you feel that you're character actually exists in the world.
  18. Yes and no. The frustration is understandable. However the RAGE (e.g. "GIVE ME A REFUND FUCK YOU SE") not so much. I've paid for plenty of games that have had this issue, Diablo 3 and SimCity being an example, yet as frustrated as I've got trying to log in, it's never actually made me angry. Maybe I just have a lot of patience, but at the end of the day it's digital entertainment and if it's not working, it's not working. It's not like the companies behind these games are on purpose screwing us, they're being screwed just as bad from these ordeals. So you know, hope it gets fixed soon, stop trying to login in endless frustration until stuff is fixed and distract yourself. I mean we're frustrated because Final Fantasy XIV is awesome and we want to play it, not because we paid for a game that's completely awful , which would be so much worse. Things will be fixed, getting stressed over it until then is both pointless and unhealthy. It's not like our shouting at SE will make them work faster, you just need to spam them with bug reports and they'll get the idea but I'm pretty sure they're aware of the issues.
  19. Technical problems such as this can come from a multitude of sources, and the reason mmo launches are always abysmal is that these problems don't arise until the servers are pounded, hard. Beta was an indication of that, but I think this pre access has been a lot more stressful and a s a result, things that didn't break before have broken now, things you couldn't predict. If the launch is pushed back by two extra days, allowing us two extra days of pre access as compensation, I'm going out on a limb and guessing that's because they're working on resolving these issues tonight and tomorrow. Fact is, it might not be a problem of few too servers. From their updates it sounds like they're having issues with the login management server being crushed, which is independent of the world servers, but a gateway onto them. So basically the bottle might not be full, but the neck is crammed. Or it could be something different. You can guarantee that people are working their asses off at SE to fix this, they know this is unacceptable but the fact that it isn't fixed yet means that it's not a simple problem and there isn't a simple solution. Sure it's really frustrating, but unfortunately you can prepare for everything and still be completely screwed by unforeseeable anomalies. But you know what? Game launch server issues ALWAYS get fixed. Even the SimCity ones, and they were a lot worse.
  20. Cool! But looking at the comments...
  21. Yeah until the guards come along. :C
