  1. Oh, hours and hours of toiling research. Okay no, about half an hour of googling and looking on reddit  Unfortunately I only found an update on what classes you need for each Job, which can be found here, but a lot of the information on which cross class skills are good for which job, is pretty out of date.
  2. I did. But then I was kicked from the server before saving
  3. Although I haven't been able to verify it myself in game, it appears (in a few places) that Dragoon is indeed 30 Lancer and 15 Marauder now. If it makes you feel any better, there's a couple of Marauder abilities that Dragoon really benefits from, last I heard. Personally I got Marauder to 20 during the last beta and dabbled in Archery before realising Lancer (and I imagine Dragoon) is my true calling, so I kind of accidentally chose the right classes there. Either way though, getting a class to 15 is what? Several hours worth of game time? It's not a huge investment and some cross class skills are completely worth it (although they become a lot more limited with Jobs).

    Greetings.

So many new members! Can't believe this got to page 2 already without at least one greet D: I particularly like your character's name, sounds very... well, let's just say I can imagine him only wearing armour. He should look pretty damn intimidating in Warrior gear, which will be a nice contrast to his friendly demeanour. Also if you're unsure about RP, just pop a question into the RP section and hopefully you'll find your answer. As someone who lives in the Euro timezone, you should check out the Europa linkshell (chat channel), which is basically for finding RP in the Euro time zone. Also if you want to do end game content, raids and such, check out Eorzean Union, a Free Company (guild) dedicated to previously mentioned content, for people in Euro time zones too. EU has both an IC and OOC chat channel See you in Eorzea :chocobo:
  5. Hey and welcome, glad to see you found us Don't worry about not knowing the lore so well, every FF is set in a completely different world with couple of referring themes (such as chocobos) so you only really need to look up XIV lore. Also if you're unsure about anything, just pop a question into the RP section; there's quite a few members here who are lore fanatics and should be able to help you. If not there'll probably be a good debate regardless.
  6. Glad to see I'm not the only one who does a few of these. I discovered how nice it was to just walk around when I was trying to take some screenshots from the beta. As I was walking about, seeing every one run around like headless chickens, it just kind of hit me that there's no need to rush, I'm gonna be here a while. Also I have to admit, by just walking about and taking my time to look around, I've found some pretty neat areas off the beaten path, including a beautiful stream in the Central Shroud. Can't wait to walk about in urban areas with my chocobo and lance like some kind of knight :chocobo: As for logging out, if it's only for a few hours I'll usually go to a camp (for the rested XP bonus of course) if I have time and sit on a chair, then log out. I don't know why, I just like doing that. I'm a huge fan of FF music, especially the VIII soundtrack, but I do often load up The Black Mages and I recently downloaded Final Fantasy VI: Balance and Ruin which is pretty wonderful. I think I might have to make a snazzy cheatsheet in Photoshop and print it off, because I soon discovered that what I had written down was quickly filling up a few pages
  7. You actually got that game? Shame on you. Supporting vile EA like that No, I'm selfish, I just wanted to play the new SimCity, it's still fun. It's pointless fighting EA, we lost back in 2005 when everyone let them get away with the first concept and deployment of overpriced DLC packs.
  8. I would rage but this nothing compared to the launch of simcity 5. Imagine not being able to get past the launcher of a game for an entire week, not even for singleplayer.
  9. Oh man I always wish I had the chance to play SWG, but a 15 year olds me in 2003 couldn't afford a) a decent computer and b) a subscription. I'm jealous. But yes, the RP potential of XIV is huge, really damn huge and it's only going to get more... huge-er. By the way since you're from Norway and hence in a Euro time zone, I would recommend grabbing a Europa linkshell (private chat channel). The Europa LS is basically for finding people or events to RP in the Euro time zone. Also if you are into end game content and raiding, Eorzean Union is a Free Company (guild) dedicated to that kind of stuff for Euro time zone players, featuring both IC and OOC chat channels. If not and you're just here for the RP, there's still a lot of other RP dedicated FCs around that has Euro players. That's quite a lot of us here it seems :cactuar: OH also welcome :moogle:
  10. In light of the return of server errors and some us repeatedly being kicked from the servers (seriously I had just made the perfect UI layout and before I could save, BAM, error 90000 and a disconnect) I figured I would make this thread to see what you guys get up to with this game. So, who else: Specifically goes to the inn room to log out via bed? (Seriously the little plinky notes as you glomp onto the bed are the perfect way to end an adventure and it's great to start a new one the next day by waking up) Walks around not to RP but just to enjoy the sights? Gets pumped up to play some XIV by listening to some FF tunes beforehand? Had to make a cheatsheet just to have on hand correct spellings, definitions and lore friendly terms?
  11. Hi and welcome, yes there are a lot of Euro types on Balmung Europa is a linkshell (private chat channel) dedicated to finding RP during EU hours. Also if you like to do end game and raid content, definitely check out Eorzean Union too, which is a Free Company (guild) for EU timezone players to do said content, and we'll have chat channels for IC and OOC chat. A lot of members hail from these forums so we're all friends. But if you're only interested in the RP side of the game, like mentioned above there's a lot of EU players scattered about on Balmung, so you shouldn't be alone. I'm also Euro by the way :moogle:
  12. Yeeesss, yeeesss more Euros. Most... Excellent. Uh, anyway, yeah there's quite a few of us here who live in the EU and play in EU time zones. If you play on Balmung, definitely check out Europa, a linkshell to find RP during EU timezones (a LS is basically a private chat channel) and if you're into end game content, raiding and such, then check out Eorzean Union, a Free Company (guild) for EU timezone players to do previously said content (we'll have chat channels for both IC and OOC). You'll be more than welcome, a lot of the members, including myself, are from these forums. Also I forgot to say, welcome, and yes, FFXIV definitely has a ton of options for RP. I seriously can't wait until the player housing is released :cactuar: See you in game :chocobo:
  13. MMOs are a social hub just like any other location in real life, and bonds can form just as easily, especially when you're interacting regularly with these people. I met Twinflame in WoW over five years ago and will always cherish my memories of the time we spent roleplaying together and interacting OOC. I never would have guessed that I'd be six months away from marrying him today! Wow, you met people you like in mmos? (Joking! Also congratulations Naunet ) I've had the opposite experience really. I used to play EVE a lot and introduced my ex to it over a year a go. We had an absolute blast, met some amazing people in game and out of game, including some of the CCP developers. We were fairly known space pirates in our area and our guild was quite infamous for small fast hard hitting ships, like a wolf pack. We were complete villains and shot people on sight. Best experience I've had in a long time with an MMO, but when we split up it all just kind of felt "meh". EVE is very much a social game that features spaceships and when that significant social other left, it felt totally stagnant. Although I couldn't see that happening with XIV, which is quite a different beast and I think joining this community first has done wonders for my experience already.
  14. Heh, within a few minutes of walking about on Balmung earlier, I was messaged by another player inquiring about RP on the server. Turns out they're EU and had come across this website in their research (but they haven't signed up) and saw the RPC choice on unoffical RP servers. I personally came here myself from a youtube video about which server to choose, mentioning this place for those interested in RP. So it's hard to say, but as it is on Balmung with Eorzea Union alone, we've had our number increase drastically just the past few days, so I'm sure by the time most of us our ready for end game content, there's going to be a lot of willing victi- I mean participants. Plus despite Odin and Moogle having EU tags, it doesn't take much research to see that the server locations for EU and NA are in the exact same place, with the exact same ping.
  15. Go back to Gridania ye robe wearing hippies! :cactuar:
  16. Fantastic introduction, it's pretty easy to win us over with pretty pictures. I'm sure you'll find lots of comrades here in your adventures.
  17. I love to hate EVE and I hate that I love it so much : ) I've got a serious soft spot for space sims (Star Citizen whaaat), but my true base is armor, swords, traveling, magic, exploration of new biomes, and individual battles. I've had some interesting times in my EVE life. However, I know those feels... https://robertsspaceindustries.com/citizens/Logan_LaMort
  18. Fuck you too :cactuar: No but seriously, welcome, it's good to have a potential villain aboard, or at least an untrustworthy character of ill repute. Or not, but I guess we'll see? Anyway I look forward to seeing you in game, especially if there's a chance for friction, it always makes things a bit more interesting in my opinion. Also you clearly killed the dodo for its delicious succulent meat. Juicy juicy bird eating.
  19. Hey Zofie :cactuar: Don't worry, you're doing fine, and if you screw up just pretend that it was totally on purpose and everyone else is in the wrong. Also don't listen to my advice. As for FF lore, well it does change with every game so I can't imagine anyone giving you a hard time over that. FFXIV does have a lot of recurring themes and references from previous games but there's people dedicated to the entire lore of XIV that will help you out if you ask a question in the RP section. Also it's nice to see some others who have heard of EVE before

    Hello

Hey there and welcome to the community If you're not having much luck with Gilgamesh it's probably only temporary, everyone rushing to play on the first day and all that. Also I think it's fair to say that we've all flirted with WoW at one point or another.
  21. Oh wow, awesome, I think the word pwned comes to mind
  22. Ahah, I don't think we would have been friends in EVE, I would have had no hesitation shooting a retriever in lowsec, or anything else for that matter Although I've always been polite about it and at least somewhat honourable. I think my entire EVE experience is basically this:
  23. It's truly amazing how games can influence you like that, I mean of course books, films, music can do the same but with a game you're so much more engaged. I have a terrible memory, I can hardly remember anything of my childhood, yet I can recall with ease a lot of games I burned through at a young age. I'm pretty sure my earliest memories are playing with Lego and playing Sonic. I got into Final Fantasy with VIII, I had a demo of it with a Playstation magazine and straight away the opening cutscene blew me away, it was so unlike anything I had ever seen before and appealed to me on a level not many games have (a close second would be Resident Evil 2, 3 and Metal Gear Solid). So of course I had to own this game and until I saved enough money to buy it, I had rented it out a few times from a nearby video store (heh videos, I also remember playing FF8 looking at the beautiful cutscenes and my 11 year old brain kept thinking "why aren't movies on disks?"). I still remember vividly my first play throughs, starting with Garden, taking the SeeD exam, running away from that godawful robot spider and well... a lot happens! It was my first RPG and I just couldn't believe the experience it was giving me, I pretty much died from joy after finding Esthar (which is a name I always give to my first Civilization starting city) and then holyfuckingshitwe'reinspace!!!?? Not to mention flying about endlessly in the Ragnorak (the love child between Dragoon armour and a spaceship) in pure joyful bliss. Everything about the game was so different to what I expected from a game and appealed to me on such a deep and profound level, from the presentation, art style and music, so much the music. As for the story? I had no fucking idea what the hell was going on as a kid but I didn't care (turns out it's fate, preemptive persecution of witches and so much time travel wibbly wobbly that would make Doctor Who scratch his head). Final Fantasy VIII is what inspired me to start drawing, to want to make games and ultimately opened my eyes to the fact that fantasy just doesn't need to be swords, magic and dragons and that sci fi can be more than spaceships and aliens. It's ridiculous how much it influenced me back then and still holds a grip on me today, I'll still load up the OST and suddenly get an overwhelming amount of feels from each song. Of course back when I first played it I identified with Squall somewhat, having a rough and lonely childhood myself, it would be pretty accurate to say I was a complete loner and couldn't integrate with the social groups in school. Of course now I'm older and well, maybe not wiser, I think Squall is a complete jerk and Laguna is obviously the best character in the entire game. I actually found out a while after I finished 8 that a couple of "friends" in school were fans of 7, it was pretty crushing to find out that they thought 8 was complete bullshit and they'd never play it because "it wasn't a sequel to 7". That was my first introduction to the whole FF game rivalry thing, which back then, 8 was definitely on the losing side and what confused me even more was that I had read up on the previous series and found out that they had all been completely different worlds, so I just couldn't understand all of the hate. Most FF games are awesome for different reasons. People are confusing. Anyway, since VIII I've played a fair share of FF. VI is my second favourite, the first time I became aware of "magitek" was in a game called Guardian Heroes on the Sega Saturn, which had these huge red mecha automations powered by magic and were extremely cool. So when I loaded up VI and saw the magitek armour, I flipped my shit at how cool it all was and of course, it's one of the finest made Final Fantasies. Although for a decade now I can't say that I know anyone IRL that is also a Final Fantasy fan. So what does Eorzea mean to me? Hopefully a great Final Fantasy game that captures the magic of the previous games, although I feel that in this case, that magic is going to come from playing it with others, especially you guys. (Ye gods that might be the corniest thing I've ever said) Did I mention the music was really awesome?
  24. Kentucky Fried Chocobo? Do you mean Korel Fried Chocobo? I kind of like the fact that housing will take some effort to get, and isn't something that you get just for playing. Of course I did start out in Eve, so I'm used to and enjoy needing to work for stuff. *Ahem* I thought I was the only one. I'll just leave this here :chocobo: But I'm a nice person really, honest!
