  1. Hello there! Much like yourself I have been playing the game for a while have only recently started to make an effort to involve myself in roleplay. I would be more than happy to make offer up Almeric for some rp. He's a Lominsan born and raised hyur highlander who is a sellsword by trade and a tavern storyteller for the fun of it. I'm EST based just like yourself and our availability appears to match up. Feel free to reach me in-game on Almeric Grey or to reach out to me here. I look forward to hearing from you!
  2. Hi there! My character Almeric is currently working as the personal bodyguard of a highly successful merchant and as such you may be familiar with the merchant and/or Almeric or alternatively the merchant's reputation. I am in-game fairly often, even if I'm working or doing something else I often keep the game running to check in on tells or the like so I'm super reachable in-game and you can always message me here as well.
  3. So the guy who did the music for Shovel Knight teamed up with a bunch of the Normal Boots guys and did a video game themed boy band album and I've actually really been enjoying it. Which was surprise. Here's the only video they have out so far. H841uTdr5S0
  4. As his eyes scanned the page with ever growing intensity the warmth and light of the Quicksands was lost on Almeric. He grit his teeth and inhaled sharply. "If the Flames and the Blades weren't going to handle something like this they should've contracted out the work. If there had been more than two people working to save those poor people maybe all of them would've survived. Bah." Almeric tossed the paper back down on the bar in frustration. "Momodi, one more." He placed a few gil on the counter and hoped the ale would wash out the bad taste in his mouth.
  5. I'd be more than happy to offer up Almeric for you to meet, he actually just met Rihxo. As for introductions, he's the sort to frequent an establishment like the Wayfarer's Rest when he's in town and while he's not an Amalj'aa hunter exclusively he's had to slay a fair few of their number in his time as a sellsword and he would probably be more than happy to tell you all about it over an mug or five of ale.
  6. Oh such a speedy reply! In-game would be my preference, just reach out when you'd like to rp and I'll be there.
  7. Hey there! I'd be more than happy to offer up my character Almeric Grey as contact/guy to rp with. He's a sellsword as well so they could know each other through work, and he's a Lominsan born and bred so they could've met in the city, his current contract keeps him in Thanalan so meeting him at the Quicksand in Ul'dah is also completely possible. He's an experienced and well travelled fellow and is usually good for a story or two and a round of ale at any tavern he's found. Feel free to reach out to me here or in-game.
  8. I'm sorry I just lurk and never really contribute anything to the RPC. :tonberry:
  9. I wasn't going to respond to this thread even though it touches on a subject that I find myself frequently seeing on the RPC forums for MMOs but then you fine people went and necro'd it for me and now here I am. First and foremost to address the OP regardless of the fact that it seems they are lost and will not be returning. I, too, love spontaneous RP it is my preference but I know why I prefer it and you've yet to give an answer as to why. I could speculate but that would be less than pointless since the likelihood that you will return to tell us one way or the other seems slim. So I will share my reason instead, I prefer spontaneous RP because my life is abnormally hectic. The times where people are normally busy are when I have all the free time in the world and the times when people are normally free to participate in their leisure activity of choice are the times when I find my ability to attend an event or the like the most compromised. With that said, when I first tried a more structured style of roleplay I found that I was able to enjoy it so my first bit of advice is to try getting out of your RP comfort zone (at your own pace of course) and see if you can't find a happy compromise. If you have a reason for despising planning of any kind in roleplay you will have to share it because without the reason understanding why you are unwilling to simply send someone a tell asking if they are willing to RP with you in impossible and therefore giving appropriate advice is impossible. The second piece of advice I'd offer you is that when you make a post like this, you are saying that your current experience with the game is not what you'd like it to be and you are asking others to assist you in correcting this. So, for example, when you say things like, "I greatly appreciate everyone who responded and those who actually did friend me. Sadly I just can't take the ignoring of my character anymore." You are doing yourself a disservice because firstly, there a multiple threads now that have proven there are people willing to help you and you present yourself as either oblivious to or disinterested in their efforts to assist you and frankly that's not the way to get people to continue helping you. I choose that specific quote because of its inherently oxymoronic nature. In the first sentence you acknowledge and thank people for reaching out to you and then immediately turn around and melodramatically declare that being ignored has become too much for you. In the interest of not being an asshat I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt and say that while people reached out to and friended you it never ended up yielding any actual RP and that is why you continue to be distressed. I'd like to close off the section of this post specifically dealing with the OP by adding that I would have said more, most of it falling along the lines of suggestions about how to break into a new RP community based on my 16 plus years of RP in MMOs but pretty much everything else I had to say has been said very well by multiple other people in this thread and all the others you've made. So I genuinely hope you don't feel personally attacked or offended, just trying to point out things that I think may be of use to you should you choose to return. To address the much broader conversation that has developed in this thread I must first commend Lilia and Uther for seeing an opportunity to remind other people who may be struggling with problems similar to the OP and taking the initiative to try and help them as well as the OP. As for the nature of the walls roleplayers put up between themselves and other roleplayers, I first and foremost agree that they are as much an obstacle for the people who put them up as they are for those who they keep out. I will readily admit to having been guilty of such things myself in the past, but in my defense during this time in my roleplaying experience I was literally 9 to 12 years old. In an attempt to understand others who create these kinds of barriers I'll share my thoughts on why it was I did it and how I was able to work past the problem. I started isolating myself from others because I was petrified of doing or saying something wrong. I was a nine year old who was playing Everquest with my parents controlling when and for how long I could play and I'd find myself regularly feeling like the odd person out because of my young age. So when I started roleplaying I was desperate to seem like I fit in and I think that is the root of the problem, or it was for me. When you are roleplaying you the player shouldn't really be worrying about anything, you are inhabiting another person when you are IC and anything that happens during your time IC has no direct bearing on you whatsoever, even if like most writers you put a little bit of yourself into your character you are still not your character. Now I can understand someone rebutting this point by saying that there is the investment in your character and when you tell stories in a collaborative manner you risk something happen to your character or conflicting with your plans for their story that you cannot abide. To this I would say so what? You are omnipotent when it comes to your character, if something goes down during some RP that you aren't cool with, do a small side story to right what was wronged or simply retcon it. If anyone gives you any guff about it then they are probably a right proper ass and you shouldn't care what they say or think anyway. The notable exception being that if your character is deeply involved in a storyline with other equally committed parties and you try to change something that affects their characters too, in this instance it is probably best to reach out to those involved and solve the problem together. Now back to fade back into the shadows. :tonberry:
  10. I find myself drawn to writing stories about powerful characters because finding the every day person in a singularly powerful being can be a fun challenge. I tend to avoid them in rp though. To make a powerful character interesting requires a delicate hand and a planned structured approach, but it can be very difficult to orchestrate the kinds of moments that highlight the relatable qualities in a transcendently powerful person when there are other writers involved in trying to tell a story with you while trying to tell their own story as well. I also find that there is a certain kind of rper who can be very confrontational about such characters, for whatever reason they seem to be angered by the idea that someone might want to play a powerful or indeed overpowered character and I am simply too old to be dealing with things like that. I've noticed that some of the replies in this thread have mentioned having a relatively balanced, normal adventurer-type character occasionally achieve or do more than they normally would be able to and I like to call those heroic moments. Maybe it's luck, maybe it's adrenaline, maybe it's fate or divine providence, but moments like those are some of my favorites. I tend to play regular rank and file soldiers as a way to test the waters of an rp community when I join a new game and I always look forward to those opportunities have my otherwise nameless so and so stand up and hold the line just long enough for reinforcements or what have you. I say all this because I think what makes those moments so pleasurable are the same things that draw people to overpowered characters. Heroic moments and overpowered characters serve the same purpose in my mind, they take a world that is already fantastical (even relatively realistic MMORPGs are never actually that grounded in reality) and create a stage where that fantasy is taken a step further because the circumstances are so far detached from reality that it forces the players, as writers, to shine a spotlight on the one thing that remains relatable, which is the personality under the power. The rank and file soldier who rises to glory after his heroic moment may not be at all suited to his new found fame, perhaps it makes him uncomfortable, maybe he feels like a fraud. Does he break under the pressure and desert? Does he wash out and become a drunk somewhere, telling tales of his days in the service in exchange for a pint? What about the God/Primal/Void-child? So isolated by their power, feared, hated, maybe pursued by those who seek to use them? These are all circumstances that present the player a chance to really explore a character. Whether or not a player capitalizes on these opportunities or indeed even realizes they have been presented with an opportunity is a completely different matter. That's my two cents I suppose. Sorry this ran so long. I had not planned to ramble so.
  11. For those who are planning to play Scholars, yes.
  12. Elezen Name:Furion Vale . Elezen clan:Wildwood. Gender: Male. Timezone:Eastern Standard Time. Looking for?: Anything. 2. Does your character fit the 'common' lore of your elezen or are they singular? (Eg. Raised by hyur so does not understand X or Y = singular) Highly nomadic but lacking the prideful nature as described by the official description of the race. 3. What are your Rp limits, if any? (Eg: no permadeath, no ERp etc) No killing someone without consent and I don't personally erp but I don't care if others do.
  13. I know that as someone new to the rp community in this game I would absolutely love there to be any number of places like this. Casual walk up encounters often help me get used to playing a new character and help me lock down more aspects of the character so that when the time comes to put in an application to join a Linkshell I know the character inside and out. I can't really suggest an area myself having not leveled to far into the game yet but if there does end up being some kind of rotation to these hotspots it is imperative that the rotation or at least which hotspot is currently active be easy information to find.
  14. The title really says it all, played in beta and around launch of 1.0 but left due to all grind and no rp. Looks like there might actually be a chance for some solid role play this time around so I'm back. I ended up on Gilgamesh because a fresh start sounded great. Not sure how well the RP scene is doing there and I'm only level 16 on my highest class so I'm not totally married to the server, if compelling arguments can be made for Balmung I'd certainly switch. So yeah... Hi.
