I'd be game... if I wasn't working -.- Good luck to you though! I do think this is a great idea. =)

Yeah totally agree with you on this. I do really appreciate the article too though. I don't think I would have considered aetheryte travel to be used IC at all. Explaining why there is a gil fee was also appreciated and well established. Considering how "poor" I tend to play Brave off Aetheryte travel seems like a great idea to promote that "emergency" travel feel, or for the more affluent player, gives them a reason to "balk" at the idea of riding a chocobo and/or "Garlean" monstrosity =P

Well at least it wasn't anything bad compared to some of the horror stories posted here =P That and non embarassing RP mistells could be viewed like advertising >.> "Hey I'm an RPer" <.< ... ...Yeah... that's the way to see it =P

Hey Naih'ir, I've gotta second Nebbs on this. A lot of people just need something to work off of. Just like in real life, most of us aren't going to just up and walk up to someone and start a conversation (Unless we're uncharacteristically outgoing ><). BUT if you do something abnormal to draw someone in it could help (and heck it might not need to be odd even). Ordering food, or asking an NPC what's "Today's specials" might prompt discussion for example. Or it may even segway into talking to others. "No thanks Momodi... I think I'll let you keep brown slime jelly to yourself..." Brave Warden turned to the Miqo'te next to him. "Do you eat here often? I'm trying to find something tasty..." I know that quiet characters are hard to engage but just because they aren't having a dialogue doesn't mean they can't be engaging too. Sitting in the corner reading a book could lend itself to an easier RP opening if you say the title of the book or react to what your reading. Beyond that... the only thing I can think of to recommend would be OOC talking things over regarding a plot. It may not be as dynamic, but if you add people to your friends list who you tend to RP often with then it will be easier to promote your plot idea. That or being part of an RP FC/attending an FC's event.

Nicely done guys! /sigh wish I could have been there. This looked like a lot of fun. =)

Much appreciated! =) Gotta keep working at it though, or I'll end up where I started ><

So I think a lot of people are self conscious of how they look (and I'm totally no better -.-) BUT I was looking through some of my old stuff and new stuff and noticed I've come a long way and I'm pretty proud. (From oldest to newest)

Toying with Character Ideas durring server down time
Brave replied to LeCard's topic in RP Discussion
I went with Hyur in terms of Vibe although the Miqo is a very close second. -

Visually, it's tied for favorite with Gridania. I like them for different reasons. La Noscea reminds me of pictures I've seen of Ireland or even Tuscany and I looooove the aesthetics. Gotta agree with both of you on the the visual appeal! Personally I'm a big Coerthas fan too though. I'm bummed that we won't be seeing housing there immediately (if at all >< BUT that's ok. La Noscea will be a fine place for House making! I would like Coerthas more if I didn't feel like I was freezing every time I have to go there. >.< I'm not a cold person! Oh man I love Snow scenes! The white topped mountains! The snow dusted pine trees! Plain old love it. I appreciate La Noscea for many of the reasons you described though. The sea side cliffs are awesome. Gridania I enjoy because of it's vibrant forests. I wish I could say the same for Uldah drawing in my senses... but the arid feel just doesn't lure me in the way the others do.

One of my guildmates (who will remain nameless because if she/he ever found out I'd surely be lynched rofl) accidentally posted in guild how much they enjoyed how sexy their RP Partner could be (that is my totally tame way of describing the scenario). They played it off fairly well and me and the guild do like to poke fun at the two of them now from time to time because it still happens. After that particular situation though I Immediately wrote: /Impersonates (so and so's character): *Lay's (so and so) down on their bed and runs a hand through their hair. "Just lay down, and let me handle it from here" LOLOLOLOL I think I've had maybe one or two awkward mistells when I was with my girlfriend at the time, talking to another guildie >< Oh and just recently I was quoting Gandalf and Frodo's conversation about how Fordo "Wished the ring had never came to him" while RPing. *edit* I was telling the quote to a friend in Skype and accidentially wrote it in X-fire. So all of the sudden I'm in the middle of an intense lecture about what the group needs to do and I throw that out of no where ><

Big fan of WoD here too. The whole series of games was awesome (And I'm FLOORED by the amount of Changeling players >< WHERE WERE YOU ALL WHEN MY LARP WAS OVERRUN WITH GAROU AND 6 FOOT TUXEDOED MOSQUITOES?!) I loved all the games though and although I haven't dabbled too much with the new setting, the old rules are still close to my heart =) I didn't know about this new WoD game though. I'm getting paid soon, and it might be worth looking into. Does anyone have a link to the game or a reputable reviewer to see what they're offering?

Balmung's Finest: Community Dungeon Crawling Initiative
Brave replied to Rhylund's topic in FFXIV Discussion
My computer should be back from the repair center sometime today and I would love to be a part of a linkshell Like this! -
I'm not a moderator nor have I been here since the sites creation. I was lead to believe that the idea to limiting the site choices was to try and gather the RPers in one place not split them up. At the time they didn't know servers would be capped (Not even the game's Dev team expected it to be reached. As is obvious by the troubles at launch). They chose one legacy server and one non legacy server that the RPC would support. They didn't say you can't RP elsewhere or on a different server, just that they were only going to promote the two selected. I think at one point an admin pointed out (when server loads were capped) that a group of RPers on the Square Enix boards picked Fairy as a congregating point. There are tools available to you to find other places to RP, and if you want to find other people to move to a different server with you I don't think the moderators would delete the post. Forcing them to pick another server though does add to their work load, and that doesn't seem right to me either. The complaints for server issues happened back when game launched and in my opinion I haven't seen any new threads spring up complaining about it since they made realms capable of having more people. I was on Gil before Balmung and the community there is not only strong but I never saw harassment from the 4chan or reddit communities (not that it didn't happen just that I didn't see it). But even on official RP servers for other games you run into the occasional troll. Anyway I'm just reiterating a lot of what I read back when this was first a problem. If one of the moderators or other community members agree with you and they do decide to add another server that's cool too. I'm indifferent on the matter.

I could see that being useful for when you want to multiple runs too. That or if you just want to use the scene in a dungeon you could stomp it out real fast then just linger around. I never thought of doing that... hmmm

The problem with this is that people dont want to rally behind your cause or join a guild because they consider it to be evil when that is not always the case. And who is to say that a character would even know what it is they are being asked to transport. And again everyone keeps making reference to menacing characters when that is not all that I'm addressing when I say "bad" characters. Whatever happened to the guy who just wants some decent coin for doing some under the table dealing etc? Does it make him a bad guy? No not necessarily but it doesn't make him pure either. =) Sorry ma'am I thought I was using non villainous terminology by saying criminal. Robin Hood for all sakes and purposes was a criminal but I digress. Now that I'm not on a phone I can try to elaborate. I simply meant that a guild setting allows for a more controlled environment that and you know the people you're interacting with. Having someone do something as drastic as cause you to lose a limb, to something as simple as "going into your room when they aren't allowed to" can be done more easily in a group of known RPers who you're more comfortable with. I won't lie, back when I first saw Ambrosia on the LS page I was like one of the (assumed) many people who may have rolled their eyes at the idea of a burlesque. I did however click on the forum anyway and looked to see a VERY well developed group and was glad to be proven wrong. Many of the stigmas and social norms associated with titles are going to be something that are a part of a character though. In some ways it's why we choose that role. For example, there's a lot of rumors buzzing around that the Greatsword wielding class will be Dark Knight and I'm just dreading it lol. If it turns out to be that way I'll be fighting the knee jerk reactions of someone seeing my weapon and assuming my "theme". (Just like I imagine not EVERY Sword and Board user thinks of themselves as a Paladin of the sultansworn). That and I can't stand Dark Knights >< (yep I'm one of the goody two shoes running around =P) BUT the image in my head of Brave, is that he uses a greatsword, so I'll deal with that stigma. Some people can't disassociate class and RP too, just like the notoriety of some titles carry an expected theme. Right now making a forum like this will help "educate" people about who you are and the kind of roleplayer/writer you embody. Vali is more then a headmistress, just like Brave is more than a lumbering Roe mercenary. It also helps promote awareness of the type of RP you're looking for. You've already had a few bites from people who felt they might be what you're looking for in terms of an RP partner. People just need to RP what they want, and let others know that they're available for that kind of RP. It's one of the things I've enjoyed so much about this Coalition site. =)

my guild in the Old Republic has a pretty broad range of alignment variance. not to knock the idea of open RP but I find that telling an encompassing story with a wide variety of characters is often best done in a guild setting where people can truly be comfortable with each other and the RP they involve themselves in. It does lack some of the dynamic value of meeting a stranger, but it does allow for drastic story development that you may not have been able to do with those yoy felt uncomfortable giving power too. (Sorry the awful grammer. I'm on my phone) I think I run into more neutral ppl then good ppl though. The criminal may also be lacking due to a typical "shady" class. One of my guildies almost didn't play the game since there wasn't a thief class.

These are all amazing ideas! I think a cooking competition sounds nice, and there will definately be plenty of dancing. I'll have to make sure this event doesn't affect any others going on wednesday so please notify me if it's within a resonable time! I wanted to make it so that people getting off work could possibly attend. Well it reminded me of some of the fine dining events we have here in town. Restaurant week is an event held over the summer where our downtown area offers a predetermined course of some of their restaurants entrees. Its like a fancier version of a cook off. Having wine tastings is pretty par for the course of most vineyards and coupling it with a band or some kind of storyteller can really make for a fun scene. If this winds up becoming a pretty popular idea you could also offer up the idea of hosting weddimg parties, award ceremonies, or other important events. Vineyards have a reputation for celebrating the finer things in life, and the 12 know we have enough taverns to work with.
-
This sounds great. We see so many other locations being taken advantage of, why not a vineyard! With a bonafide culinary skill in the game you could also have a menu or other fun activities like "Iron Chef" styled battles or even fancy ballroom styled masquer- *shoves hopeless romantic side back into its box* Bring on the Auroch flanks and serenade me with a roegadame alto and chiqote soprano >.> I definitely said nothing about slow dancing.

Welcome! I'm new to Balmung too, but I'm also in the process of getting my laptop fixed >< The caolition has been great though. Hope you enjoy yourself here
-
In other MMOs I love doing this. It would be great in Final Fantasy 14 too since there are so many gorgeous locales in dungeons. The thing I'd hate to deal with is the timer... Other then that though I'm sure it could be all sorts of fun
-
Thank you both for the clarification. I know I have a few guildies who are interested in in these Free Companies. I'm a Limsa kid myself but I can appreciate an academy style RP.

So I liked what I read in the Uldah Garden recruitment thread and was wondering if this garden is affiliated or plans to RP with them? (I am currently getting ready for work so I couldn't read everything posted, in case I missed where you explained that ><)
