I'll go! Aerius can definitely hold his liquor. Especially for money. -

Color me interested! My character could very easily fit the mold for what you're looking for. I'll look around for you next time I'm on. -

Sounds neat! Depending on what the criteria is, my character could fit in as either a shifty rapscallion or a determined investigator. I'd be interested in hearing more about the plot. -
Nnnope! I wish. Just takes getting used to most actions being done inside the chat window. There aren't any chat bubble add-ons that I've ever heard of. This game's very much against add-ons. Nnnope! People have asked about that for a while; I don't even know if it's on the list of "things to do" for the dev team at this point. No, that's pretty much how we do things here. There's no dueling to speak of, so everything I've seen done was through emotes, dice rolls, or both. Uhhh... I haven't done much PvP in this game, but I don't think RP is viable in it. It's all battlegrounds stuff like you guessed. This game never had much of a focus on PvP in general.

balmung LF "Dark"/Mature Themed RP or FC? x_X
Divisor replied to Dia's topic in Chronicled Connections
Aw, man. Count me in. I've been watching this thread and I agree: it's tough finding those shadier/seedier groups of people. I've always wanted at least an OOC place for people to go to meet people with those types of characters. ICly, I suppose, it'd have to be difficult. If your character does criminal work, they'd be stupid to talk about any of it in public or to a stranger. Somewhere like here, though, nobody's gotta knoooowww. -
One of the most important things I feel a good character should have is a solid, long-term goal to drive them to do what they do. It can be anything: being rich, finding a lost family member, becoming the greatest knight they can be... whatever. The point is to have something that gives them the motivation to do whatever work it is that they do. A treasure hunter might be looking for the most valuable artifact they can to secure their wealth for the foreseeable future, or maybe they're trying to find an old trinket that might lead them to the truth about who they are and where they really came from. A mercenary could be looking for a way to make a name for themself in the real world, establish connections with like-minded people, or even find true happiness through adventure. Really, honestly, it can be anything. If you give one of these to your character, you immediately open yourself up to a plethora of figurative doors that can lead your character just about anywhere. An aspiring paladin might feel that he needs to prove himself as a fighter first, so how might he do that? An amnesiac is looking for some kind of sign to point her in the direction of the truth, so where could she look? This is where character plot lines come in. Your character needs something—anything—and because this goal of theirs is such a central motivation in everything they do, prompting them to go out and get it one way or another is actually pretty simple. The fun is working out the twists and turns along the way to make things interesting. That's what adventure is about.

My character, Aerius, is quiiiite a criminal, so I'd be interested! If you want to know more about him, I made a post here.
-
Aerius, I'd say, is pretty familiar with the "underworld", given that that's where almost all of his work is done and he's been here for a few years. He might not know many of you IC, but I'm always willing to change that. It looks like most of you handle intelligence gathering and information brokering, which Aerius also does here and there, but for the most part he handles theft and a lot of covert ops. He's also been known to handle some contraband dealings, but it's not exactly a trade of his. I'd love to get involved with some of you guys if there's anything going on!

Hello! Been a really, really long time since I've posted anything worthwhile on these forums. Aerius is a character I've been trying to hammer out for over a year now, really going over and then back over all of his traits and skills until I came together with something I thought was decent. It involved a lot of improv. Now, finally, I think I'm really comfortable enough with him as a character to get out there and make a real effort to meet people with more than just hanging around in the Quicksand in mind. I want him to do work for people. Up 'til now, those people have just been NPCs he's mentioned offhandedly once in a while, and that's pretty boring. I'd much rather he have a hand in something really happening out there between... some of you guys. So: Who's this guy? Well, Aerius is several things. As a person, he's pretty easygoing, impulsive, and I think generally likeable. He's the sarcastic, no-concern-for-his-own-wellbeing, easily bored kind of guy. Casual, if you made me put it in one word. When it comes to his work, the title about sums it up. Underhanded, stealthy, and deceitful with a knack for sleight of hand and telling lies. He's also not much of a fighter; more of a trickster. What does he do? Mostly, I'd say Aerius is best suited for "acquiring" things, be it objects or information. Theft, disguises, tracking people, and eavesdropping are among his best skills. He's a perceptive guy, so occasionally he's been put in situations where he's had to solve a few mysteries or advise some other people on how to deal with some tricky situations, and I think he did a decent job at those. He's no assassin, though. Just a guy who's good at taking stuff. Does that mean he's a criminal? Technically, yes. He's based in Ul'dah, so he fits in pretty well with the seedier crowd. A lot of his real work is done amidst them, anyway. With skills like his, it's hard to find respectable work a lot of the time. That's not a very good excuse, is it? That doesn't make him a bad guy, though. Circumstance just happens to put him in that position a lot of the time. If the shoe fits... Isn't that kind of career choice a weird mix for somebody so laidback and carefree? You would think so, wouldn't you? What kind of work should he be hired for? Given his skills that I listed above, if there's anything you have going on or anything you're planning that you think could use someone like Aerius, definitely consider hiring him! (you don't have to pay actual gil, I promise.) How might someone get in touch with him? He spends nearly all of his time in either Ul'dah or Thanalan, so if you hang around there often as well, odds are you'll catch him sooner or later. If you can't seem to find him and need an IC way to contact him, there's always the delivery moogles. Would he have notoriety of any kind? Sure! In my head, at least. I want him to be the kind of guy who knows a lot of people, especially the types who deal in the same kind of work that he does. If your character happens to be that type of person and you want to contact him, I am 110% okay with working with you to come up with a good reason that they might know each other, whether it's through work or even him having wronged them in some way. That stuff is way cooler to me. Of course, if your character is the opposite... the just or the respectable law enforcement types, I think there's some pretty good opportunities there too. You don't exactly have to ask me beforehand if you want to do something, either. Walking up and talking to him like you've already met him from somewhere is totally cool with me. I'll do my best to improvise. ———————————————————————————————————————————— I think that about covers it! For now, anyway. I'd be remiss to tell you everything about someone who is by nature very secretive. If you have any other questions about him, let me know! If you're interested, here's his wiki page that's all shiny and new to accompany this post! Maybe it'll give you a better idea of the character. As far as when I'm around? Uuuusually it's from around 7 PM EST and on until even after midnight. But those times can obviously vary. Suffice to say, I play a lot. So odds are you'll be able to catch me if you need to. Finally, I'm gonna be watching the forums like a hawk for any events or other people out there that I think Aerius could mesh with. I'm desperate to get some stuff going on! Thanks for reading! Let's do stuff.

Last one. Mostly. It's not a rule so much as it is a general consensus (unless you want to treat it like a rule), but there is nothing that can ever happen to your character unless YOU agree to it. It's your character. Nobody else's. If someone walks up and straight up kills your character, you can just ignore them. Unless for some reason you're cool with that. I figure this will vary from group to group. It's not a universal rule that you can't swear, but just like if you're hanging out with a new group of people in real life, don't go slinging around racial slurs at the top of your lungs before you get a feel for what that group is and isn't comfortable with. Common sense, basically. Same as the first question. Not unless you agree to it. If I were to try to steal from someone, I would probably either ask them if it's alright beforehand, or emote "bumping into the character" and THEN asking if it's alright if my character took something from theirs. S'all good. This stuff can be pretty daunting. Just don't get discouraged if you don't get any bites per se immediately. Watch some other people in a tavern. See how they do it. Take notes. Copy 'em. You'll figure it out soon enough. Uhhhm... I guess the first thing that comes to mind is not to "godmod". That is, don't make your character invincible, undying, or unbeatable. This would be a characterwho is better than everyone else and cannot be killed or harmed. I've known many people that have eventually become isolated through this; nobody wants to roleplay with someone who believes that their character is better than everyone else's. EDIT: I skipped over the word "unspoken" in your question, so I guess this is a bad answer. To be honest, I'm not sure. I'd have to think about it. Really any rules that come to mind are pretty well-spoken in my experience. I mean... personally, I'd just go out and reference that kind of stuff anyway. To me that's just details. I don't think anybody's going to get on your case because you named some dessert that doesn't exist. It's not some incredibly lore-breaking inconsistency that breaks the world as we know it. If you're a little paranoid, though, google it. See if you can find the food as a crafted item or something. If not, either pick something else, or don't sweat it. Unless your character has a solid, believable and agreeable reason to be doing those kinds of things (which they probably don't), I would avoid it. People tend to turn their noses up at characters who are super angsty badasses that can lift a house over their head and run at a hundred miles an hour. Unless you happen to be roleplaying in a universe where that kind of thing is common-place, like a superhero MMO.

Too bad you're on Gilgamesh. Also too bad I don't play nearly as much as I should be anymore. >_>

Aerius glanced between the man behind the desk, the roegadyn woman at his left, and the leaflet in his hand. He quickly pulled his thoughts together, took a small step forward, and spoke, "Well, ah... I was looking to sign up. I'm pretty good at hitting stuff and I'll take money anywhere I can find it. Do I gotta do some kind of interview or something, 'cause I'm really shitty at those." Truth be told, he wasn't terrible at taking interviews at all. He just really, really hated the application process. Two fingers curl together behind the leaflet in his hand, silently hoping to the gods above that the man confirms that there's no need to do any of that nonsense.
-
Following the crude instructions scrawled on the leaflet in his hand as carefully as he could, Aerius finally made his way to what he guessed was the entrance to the supposed "Eorzean Hunters League" headquarters. Moving closer and having spotted the league's brand on the door, his suspicions were confirmed, and he discourteously made his way inside. The thought of knocking politely didn't exactly occur to him. Ready to make his entrance immediately known to anyone inside, Aerius began loudly as soon as he moved halfway through the door, "Hey, wh—" he cut himself off, though. Evidently he was already interrupting something, "..Oh." His gaze slid from one person to the other, and he idly scratched the side of his head with his free hand. He wasn't anticipating a line.

I think almost every character I've made has had some part of me in them. It helps me humanize them and it's a lot easier to slip into RP-mode when I'm playing someone that I can identify with. Generally, though, the parts of those characters that are like me are usually exaggerated in some way, which is just me toying with the idea of "what if I was more like this guy". So from there, Aerius is like me in that he's snarky and optimistic, but he's more of an exaggerated version of me in that he's flamboyant, outgoing, and easily excited. Deep down, there's a part of me there, but on the surface he's more of his own guy. He's someone I think I could be in different circumstances and it's fun to explore that through RP.

I'm interested! I was wondering what happened to this group ever since I first heard about it a couple months ago. I'll try to get ahold of you once I'm on tomorrow.

That's Chinese, man. Look how much more sense it makes when you translate it into English directly from Chinese. Oh. I maintain that I was very tired and it looked like Japanese to me. I'm definitely not stupid.

It's 3 AM and I'm very tired, so I threw this into Google Translate because I don't know Japanese. This is what I got.

Characters in media that influence/are similar to your character!
Divisor replied to Orlog's topic in RP Discussion
Being a sarcastic dick who likes to make snarky comments from the sidelines, Aerius is very reminiscent of Wallace Wells from Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. 'Cept he ain't gay. http://i.imgur.com/gZbWMdd.jpg?1[/img] He also really enjoys pushing people's buttons and getting on their nerves, which is a trait I've seen a lot in Jim Halpert from The Office. This character is way too much fun to play. -
To be fair, reddit is very upset about this and most people are trying really hard to get the accused moderator removed.
-
That's a good point, actually. J'hared, you should keep in mind how many people have alts in the LS and exclude those alts from the 25 limit. It wouldn't be fair to others to have it capped at 25 and find out that someone has three separate characters in the LS; that's two slots that aren't being filled by others.
