  1. I thought I'd say thank you to Castiel for all the effort and work put into this site. It's definitely a good tool to have and has helped out my guild in its reboot and recruitment. I have gotten a few new guild members who saw the guild advertising on this website and decided to go and give us a look. One member didn't even know Final Fantasy Xi or XIV would have RP but this site opened his eyes and led him to us ultimately. So just thought i'd say thanks, you're making it alot easier for smaller guilds like mine to recruit quality people and get to know others in the RP community and try to forge alliances. *Raises glass* Thanks!
  2. Very true. normally my mage characters all have a distinct weakness when using magic. Such as in Conan my mage was a Demonologist and her weakness was very specific, she was frail usually and needed blood to do the rituals. The bigger the ritual/spell, the more blood needed. in this game I think Thaums seem to be close to what bloodmages were in Vanguard, it's how I plan to RP Kailisto anyway, as more of a blood mage.
  3. The cake is a lie! (there i said it!)
  4. I think it is more of implied that some people feel a bit offended and put off by how intense things got and simply choose to distance themselves. At least that's what i've gathered from reading the forums so far. It seems mostly to be a misunderstanding of words and attitudes. Personally I think this kind of debate is healthy and needed within any community. Will everyone get along? Of course not. Will people get annoyed with others suggestions? Sure they will. But at the end of the day we should still come together as one community after the debate is over because let's face it, RPers will always be a minority on any server we choose, and the more divided we are the more we limit our potential RP. I've read some pretty silly and crazy things to me, but I understand that things aren't personal and people are simply voicing their opinions so no I don't hold it against people nor judge them for their passion or lack or passion on any subject. If someone feels something is a huge deal who am I to say it isn't. All I will do is give my opinion and hope after the debate has ended we can still be "cool".
  5. Well there are some precautions that can be taken already. Like not picking the very first server, no matter if it wins or not, like not choosing a server with a extremely popular villain name (if they go that route) because it too will be super crowded. For every person who rolls their eyes at "Sephiroth", there are 3 more who are going **** yeah! i'm rollin there!" So right now it very much will be more than a name.
  6. Oh wow VERY nice video and news. One thing I liked was the epicness of the video. But for me the song at the beginning gave me goosebumps Spoilered it in case some haven't played/seen it yet. But now the wait till tuesday will be even harder!!
  7. It is beautiful, they certainly haven't forgotten how to make great cutscenes, it's like every day i'm annoyed with the game, then something like this comes out and i'm happy again lol
  8. The ornate candles on the tables and in the old chandelier seemed to do nothing to illuminate the inside of the tavern beyond the dull dusk-like atmosphere there currently was. The soft whispers of the various patrons, whose faces were partially concealed by shadow and a thin haze were overshadowed by the laughter of a boisterous Lalafell who sat at the bar conversing with a Duskwight Elezen woman behind the counter cleaning out a mug. "Wait wait, so yer tellin me that some people believe the spirits of te' dead haunt this place because o' a few lights?" he said. She nodded once and filled the mug then slid it down to him. "Mhm, that's what i'm saying. The rumors claim that the spirits of the dead are drawn here by the raven which shepherds the dead from this world to the next. And the orbs of light are those souls." He laughed even louder and took a deep drink from his mug. He sat it down and wiped his mouth with his hand as he shook his head back and forth. "Oh and do they tink' if ye' put a chocobo feather above yer door it'll bring ye good luck too?" he said jokingly. She shrugged once and canted her head downwards as a thin smile crossed her lips. "Perhaps, it is not my place to judge, but one thing I will say is the chocobo thing is a myth, passed down by traveling hyur." He shrugged and took another deep drink from his mug and finished it off. "Yeah well, if it were true every chocobo would be as naked as freshly sheered-" "Caw, caw" Everyone in the tavern went silent as they looked up towards the small skylight. The lalafell laughed nervously and glanced upwards to see what everyone was looking at. "Pfft. T-that's nothing but ah bird, plain an simple, nothin special bout it." He said. A small orb appeared overhead and slowly floated through the tavern and vanished once it reached the back of the bar. The Lalafell's face was pale white with fear and he fell off his stool and ran out the door, muttering about curses and ghosts. Slowly the chatter returned to its normal level and the barkeep sighed and shook her head. "Another coward I take it." A voice said from the end of the bar. She nodded and sighed, then took his empty mug and began to clean it out. Kailisto stood up and adjusted her cloak. "I see. Well it's of no consequence, we'll find more recruits soon enough. Recruits who aren't scared of unexplained things. Or at least have some kind of curiosity."
  9. Hrm.. Themesongs.. Kima normal/everyday themesong- Mastermind-Deltron: Because he is a bit dorky, but believes he is smart enough to outwit and trick/persuade/ manipulate almost anyone. (Whether it's true or not is up for debate haha) And during his darker moments and fights, Red- King Crimson: The darkness and moodiness, the seeming malevolent feeling the song causes suits him during the moments he is fighting or just in that dark place.
  10. Well at the moment that's all you can do is grind, or work on crafting/harvesting, but I believe, possibly they will have other quests not related to leves in the game, because as was pointed out to me they have a entire section for quests in your journal, but don't quote me on that one.
  11. Yes that's probably what SE is hoping as well, crafters and gatherers get reputations for themselves and build up clients and followings for their wares to where you'll seek out specific retainers.
  12. And also I wouldn't mind grinding sometime, but it seems like most enemies around the starter area simply are way too hard for one, two, heck even three lowbies to take. how about adding mobs which are challenging, but won't one shot you as soon as you step out of the city.
  13. Yes they need to simply increase the bonuses on things like gil and skill points when in groups to make it more appealing, or give groups special leves specifically designed for groups, not just the star scaling thing, but leves which say "Warning! Bad ass Kobold stomping holes in people around Wineport! go investigate with a group!" lol not those words but things like that. sure you can try it solo, maybe even win, but most likely you'd die. It still wouldn't hurt soloers and would give a reason to group up.
  14. Yeah we need to decide before launch day definitely, preferably a few days before it. I don't care what server we go to as long as I know before launch so I can tell my guys and gals where to roll their chars.
  15. Wait so there will be some other quests other than the main storyline quests and Guildleves to do? I thought it was only main storyline and guildleves? Well in any event i'm glad to be wrong on that front, that is a big relief. And as for the mage issue, I think they did go too far in the other direction without giving them some way to balance it out. I'm sure in the huge HNM fights mana will be very important, heck some of the more "elite" groups may not even want to bring mages at all for the reason of them basically running out of juice half way through a epic fight. I do see why SE did that though, to make you think more strategic and conservative with your spells, to not just spam "meteor" every 20 seconds. I think now i'm going to roll a mage to give it a try right now.
  16. Heh yes I know, its only the beginning of the game's life so I expect it to be rough. I played EQ2 and Vanguard at launch so I know rough but i'm sure it wont be AS BAD as those two so i know i'll survive, I just hope they REALLY have more things to do like storyline quests etc. and if I could get a group, it wouldn't be nearly as bad. Hear that SE i WANT to group! give people more incentive to do so please! And I think the wards are a good idea too in theory, but in practice, trying to find a piece of armor for instance, even with a sped up UI could take someone half an hour. they should at least put your retainer in a specific section based on what it's selling the most of, so I can go browse the armor and weapons section for instance. After all in a flea market or outdoor market, things are grouped, its not all super mixed. At least the ones where I live. You know you want food, go to the food section, you want art work, go to the artwork section and so on.
  17. Oh Crystal why must you crush my dreams by saying it will be "rough" for awhile? hehe
  18. Well they did say they have some things planned to make grouping more viable. I hope so because I stand by the aether crystals all day asking to join leves or offering, and no one joins. I am expecting them to bump up group rewards/gil bonus and perhaps have more group monsters roaming around so it will be worth it to "adventure" as a party vs solo. Although it does suck about 48hrs... And damn that "Realistic" Bazzar experience is horrible atm, and it doesn't help with how much the UI lags.
  19. wow nice article indeed. and the comments after did not seem that bad to me, it actually looked like some people even came away from the discussion so far with a more open mind and understanding that not all Roleplayers try to force their game on others or sit around in taverns all night /erp for hours on end. Unfortunately many people have had bad first impressions with Role players and thus ruins it or makes it harder. Hell even as a RPer i've run into others who whine and complain about ANYTHING needlessly, just to start drama, or try to tell you if your "RP" is right or wrong. And we all know there are RPers out there who are very much like that so i can imagine what non-rpers deal with. Roleplaying will always have a certain stigma attached to it which has been with it since the DnD days in the late 70s, that won't change, but what can change is at least convincing people we're not "the anti-christ" or anything and out to ruin/take over their gameplay with ours, and from reading the thread so far, it is nice to see no "angry" RPers get in their and just go off on everyone, you've all kept calm and cool heads plus you have posted intelligently, which will go a long way.
  20. They are giving them out till the 16th they said. I'd say check their twitter, they announce when they are preparing to give them out.
  21. Ha yeah some animal charged after me but didn't attack lol, I love it the world is extremely organic and you can tell alot of work when into the AI and scripting.
  22. I agree with most of what the above poster said as well. My biggest complaint is the UI. It is horrible at the moment. Having to click and open a menu for ANY action is beyond ridiculous, and its the only thing really annoying me at the moment. Also I found something hilarious, yesterday when me and a few others were messing around with retainers, the lady who sells them to you can actually get "overwhelmed" if too many people are trying to access her at once and tell you to come back later. LOL while it definitely makes the world more "alive" and "realistic", it can be annoying to have to wait. And my final complaint is the current bazaar/market ward set up. It is beyond annoying to have to search EVERY SINGLE RETAINER for something. It'd be nice if perhaps when you passed near them what they sold was displayed so you could at least know where to go or perhaps a Auction house, but give some kinda incentive to use the Bazaar such as lower prices or discounts against the auction house. Hopefully I simply couldnt find the auction house but if that is how we'll have to buy things in game, as it is will make it extremely annoying especially since it looks like no npcs sell armor or weapons. That being said overall I love the game and would purchase it. I am glad they don't hold your hands with glowing trails to NPCs or arrows over their heads. The NPCs actually say" Look at your map its by such and such. I LOVE that. I thoroughly enjoyed it and it actually felt like a MMO, the same kinda feeling I got from Everquest 1 and 2. A actual live world. Top it off with the graphics, amazing to say the least. For instance when the wind blows, you can see leaves blowing by, bits of debris, it looks like a actual windy day on rolling hills. I can only imagine how gorgeous the desert will be or the dense forests. I have all settings on high with the exception of shadows on standard and Ambient Occulsion off (because it caused me strangely enough horrible lag, but with it off I was smooth as warm butter, so if you lag, turn that off and it'll help some). The game looks better than Aion, and it is easily the best looking MMO to date hell it looks as good as some single player RPG games, and will probably remain so until something like Blade and Soul comes out.
