  1. There is no amount of money I would not give SE for this. Nashu is love, Nashu is life.
  2. I roleplayed in several games before FFXIV (WoW, GW2, SW:TOR just to name a few) and I have to say that FFXIV is the first one to legitimately make me jaded about RP. Maybe I've just been unlucky in this game so far but in every other instance of RPing in a game in the past, I've been able to make good connections, keep them, and craft long, elaborate plotlines that span multiple arcs. I met wonderful people and had a blast. In FFXIV this has yet to happen with anyone but my friends in Mysterium. I can't count the number of failed guilds, dropped plots, disappearing characters, and OOC drama breakdowns that have assailed me in this game. It's led to me often feeling cynical and jaded about the RP aspect of the game, and has led to me moving even further towards the light RP/heavy PvE side of the spectrum because my immediate assumption about anyone that I meet is that they will flake or prove to be absolutely insufferable OOC. Edit: Not to say I'm not enjoying myself. I just have more or less stopped wandering outside of Mysterium, is all.
  3. Maybe I don't understand, but how is it incorrect? I said a it isn't necessarily standard that a Nuhn is the leader of a tribe. Reference: "Nunh status does not equate to leadership within a tribe, and in fact, very few nunh ever become leaders." Citation: http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Miqo'te/Naming'>http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Miqo'te/Naming The population in the Sagolii desert is a tribe. See here under home areas: http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Miqo'te Sorry about the confusion. I think this is mainly a case of miscommunication. I took your statement to mean the alpha males of the tribe are not always named Nuhns.
  4. Fine, the Nuhn is the top cat in any particular breeding group. My point about his statement being incorrect still stands, since the settlement in the Sagolii seems to be comprised of one singular breeding group.
  5. The Nuhn is the alpha male of any given tribe. They might not always be the political leader, but they are the top cat in terms of breeding and status. Edited to throw that quote in there, which was supposed to be there to begin with.
  6. Which I've seen exactly that before. How do you know that person wasn't a catboy then decided they needed maximum nyan and Fantasia'd but couldn't afford a name change? I've seen plenty of Au Ra named Tia and Nuhn.
  7. I have every issue with this, re: her name. No I kid. Roughly 50% of the rper population uses lore-breaking names. Hell I use lore-breaking names. It's really not a big deal. If people don't want to rp with you because your character's name is strange, well, they can go off and let their jimmies be rustled in their own corner while you go off and have fun. It ain't that serious.
  8. You don't need a soulstone to be a Dark Knight. Fray's spirit shocks awake your darkside but you don't necessarily need the stone to do such. Besides that, your darkside isn't necessarily the source of Dark Knight powers so much as a side effect. The source of a Dark Knight's power is raw emotion.
  9. I believe there was a rather long thread about this awhile back, and the general consensus was that Lalafell and Elezen live slightly longer than the other races but not by much. They're definitely not ageless or exceptionally long-lived.
  10. They're not, that's just it. Think of them like the cliff notes of learning a trade. It can help accelerate learning, but it's not the only way to acquire knowledge. ^^ The only instance in which they appear to be absolutely required is with Black Mages. Even then, you might be able to find a way around that with a good enough reason. Perhaps a pact with a Voidsent or something like that. Black magic and Void magic seem tied together, loosely at the very least.
  11. Welcome to the game, and to the RPC. Can't wait to see your artwork. If you'd like an RP contact, poke me in-game on Reilan Orycia or Rukon Khujal.
  12. I'm one of those people that glosses over soulstones because it seems like another instance of a mechanic that was forced into lore. Reilan is a dragoon because he trained hard and learned how to Jump and how to fight dragons and all that jazz. He never mentions a soul stone, nor do any of my characters. TBH I sometimes forget they exist.
  13. Alas, CT gear cannot be dyed. My apologies, friend. As for endgame grind, I do my daily expert roulette and also have been grinding Alex floors for Prototype Gordion gear. I started my Eso grind with my weapon (Antiquated Deathbringer, for the extra edge!) and will be working for the chest piece next. I find it's easier to get the high-price gear (weapon, chest, pants) out of the way first, so that the last few bits (head, hands, legs, and accessories) seem much faster in comparison.
  14. Cold, crisp Coerthas air ripped at Reilan's hair as he stood on a cliff overlooking the city. How often had he come to this spot to gaze upon a place that was his home, a place for which he'd given blood and flesh and bone in its defense, a place he was glad to lay down his life for, and a place that was now utterly alien and hostile to him. The lance he bore on his back felt heavy all of a sudden, as if the weight of a lifetime of lies and betrayal at the hands of the highborn condensed within the weapon he had defended those lies with. A crunch in the snow made him turn his head, and his crimson gaze fell upon a heavily robed figure in a pointed hat. "You're certain this cold does not wreak havoc upon your old, broken joints, Irisviel?" he said with a grin. The mage stopped short, a deadpan mask set into her features as she stared at the Elezen. "I could fetch the Temple Knights, you know. Then we'll see how clever that tongue of yours is." She trod the extra five paces to stand next to him with a sigh, looking over the same horizon. "I found her." Reilan looked over at her as he felt his breath leave him. "...Alive?" Llaine nodded. "Aye, alive and resting with Brunhilda in the Shroud. A tad delirious but no worse for wear. You know her, it'll take more than a few Temple Knights to bring Graveless down." She reached into her robes and procured a small scroll, then handed it to him wordlessly. "Here, that's as much information as I could glean, but it should be sufficient to start this little rebellion of yours." Reilan looked supremely relieved to hear Cael was fine, and took the scroll, opening it as he pulled it towards himself. As he looked it over, Llaine continued, still not looking at him. "I pray you know what it is you're doing, Orycia. Some of these people are nobles, Temple Knight officers, clergy. They won't just throw you in Witchdrop if you're discovered. They'll make you beg for death before they grant you any such mercy." Reilan rolled the scroll back up and shoved it in his travel satchel. "You're Ishgardian, Irisviel. You know why I have to do this." Llaine finally looked at him, her one icy blue eye boring into his blood red ones. "I also know honor and vengeance don't do you any good if you're dead. What about Cael? What about Rosamund? The people who love you and care about you. Why is it so hard for you to let this go and leave Ishgard behind you?" Reilan snapped an arm out to grab Llaine by the collar. He pulled her close, his eyes narrowed dangerously, and she simply stared back, unflinching. "Long have I toiled and suffered under the delusions of fighting for a glorious Ishgard, for the love and adoration of the Fury, for the divine right of our people to exterminate the Dravanians in the name of our Goddess. But the men I once fought for know nothing of honor, or sacrifice. They know only greed. They take what they may and give nothing in return." He pointed to his satchel which contained the scroll. "These men, and those who answer to them, represent a poison, a cancer upon our city. I will bleed this corruption from Ishgard's veins in the manner of true Ishgardians - with the souls and steel of good men, and the strength of the Fury. I will rebuild the Ishgard I once knew upon the broken bodies of its enemies. I will reclaim the honor and glory of my family, cast so low by the malevolence of men who claim divinity. And if I perish in the pursuit, then I shall die with honor, in the way the Fury has ordained, and I will be welcomed in Her halls with song and with glad tidings." Llaine slowly raised a hand and pried his from her robes, surprisingly strong for one in so frail a condition. "Do not lace your talk of honor with lies, Orycia. You're doing this for you, and no one else. For a petty grudge. I merely pray her tears are a worthy price for you to pay." Her words were venomous and razor-sharp, and Reilan actually flinched a bit. Llaine promptly turned on her heel and stalked away through the snow, leaving Reilan alone atop that wind-swept cliff, with nothing but a scroll filled with names, and her words echoing in his ears.
  15. Hydaelyn is also known as the Mother Crystal, but it doesn't seem like many people actually know about that. The main deities revered in Eorzea are the Twelve. Some are patrons of certain city states (Halone is the patron of Ishgard, Nophica is the patron of Gridania, Llymlaen is the patron of Limsa Lominsa, Nald'Thal is the patron of Ul'dah, and Rhalgr is the patron of Ala Mhigo), while others are revered by races as a whole (Sun Seekers revere Ayzema the sun goddess, while Keepers revere Menphina the moon goddess). Other gods and goddesses are patrons of a lifestyle (Thaliak is revered by scholars and mages, Oschon is revered by wanderers). The pantheon is also inter-related similar to the Greek pantheon (Rhalgr is the father of Halone, Halone is the companion of Oschon, Ayzema and Menphina are sisters, etc.) Personally, I have one character who is very religious - my Ishgardian Elezen, Reilan. He is an adherent of Halone, once a member of the Orthodox Church of Halone, but has since strayed from that particular chapter and now reveres her in his own way, interpreting her texts and teachings his own way. It's an unusual thing for an Ishgardian to do so, but his personal storyline has driven him to such a belief. Here's the official wiki on the Twelve: http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/The_Twelve Edit: Not the offical wiki. I let my fingers get ahead of myself there.
  16. I can help you unlock stuff, as well as tank it for you (60 DRK). I love the older content.
  17. I'm pretty sure these aren't the hairstyle contest winners. These are just new hairstyles that SE came up with.
  18. I, for one, am thoroughly looking forward to seeing the afro perched atop masses of male Roes, Highlanders, and Lalafells in banana hammocks doing the Hildebrand pose in front of the Quicksand.
  19. I would also like to know this information, because this sounds absolutely adorable. Edit: My fingers are not fast enough. Thank you.
  20. My main character is a Miqo'te Keeper who is living in sin with an Ishgardian Hyur whose family stole away to Gridania when things in Ishgard started getting bad. Why am I a Miqo'te and his parter a Hyur? Because I like the way Miqo'te males look in most of the armor sets in this game (I'm a tank) and my RL girlfriend who plays his in-game girlfriend likes the look of the Hyur. That's pretty much the only reason. At the end of the day, it boils down to play what you want to play. You pay your same $15 as everyone else in this game, so you're entitled to your own flavor of pretendy fun time. If you want to break lore, find other people who like to break lore and go nuts. If you just want to bend it a tad, find others who agree and plop down in their sandbox. If you're a stickler for it and IC Black Mages send you running to the Padjali in a flutter of panic and tattle-tale fervor, then you do you, boo. But just make sure you're having fun with it. What's the point otherwise?
  21. I am available to be someone's hype man. I'll stand behind you and wave my arms wildly while yelling "OOOOOOH OOOOOOOOH OOOOOOOOH AIN'T GOT NOTHIN', AIN'T GOT NOTHIN', OOOOOOOH!"
  22. I'm not sure if the bolded is supposed to mean during in-character interaction or out-of-character criticism of the character itself but either way I would suggest taking some time to have that not be a thing, or else you're gonna have a bad time. Both people and their characters can be ruthless at times, and almost everyone can agree that a degree of separation is required to really keep your RP enjoyable and drama-free for everyone.
  23. IIRC, male Miqo'te weren't playable in 1.0 because they were supposed to be exceedingly rare (in lore anyway, mechanically it was probably because lolzMithra) so it was only ever the females that went out to do adventuring and the like. So, adhering strictly to lore, yeah, monogamous relationships don't work. In reality Miqo'te are the most populous race with catboys probably making up, at the very least, half of that overall percentage, so. At this point trying to justify or argue against anything Miqo'te do with "but it's the lore" is akin to bashing your head against a brick wall to get to the pie on the other side. Could it eventually work? In theory. But you're gonna have massive brain damage and head trauma before you ever get to that point.
