I talk to Kevin VanOrd myself quite often. I trust his opinion as that, an opinion. FFXIV holds the same space APB did. I like it, but it needs work and needs it bad.

A 210m isn't all that special. It's on par with a low-to-midgrade 9000-series nVidia GPU. As it is in a laptop, that raises additional expense and heat issues.

You're on a laptop (as evidenced by the 210m), you've got a dual-core CPU and you're very close to minimum on the CPU. As far as upgrading a laptop, there's not much you can do there. In the short term, the usual "shut down everything, run in fullscreen" applies here.

People who started up playing MMOs and RPGs without a level of belief in their characters. The term "toon" devalues the character and the intricate relationships and situations that he, she, or it is involved with. Hence, a "cartoon", or completely two-dimensional character. Whereas people who play WoW without an RP intent refer to their characters as Toons, I referred to mine as a "character", because that is what he, she, or it had.

There really is only an option to either eyeball it (experienced people can do this), or use something like FRAPS. Quad Core CPUs are pretty much a necessity to push the game up above 30FPS, All four cores are used.

It entirely depends on the enemies that you are fighting. I can fight up to orange on a new class without too much of a problem by bringing in abilities FROM OTHER DISCIPLINES. The key here is that you need to mix-and-match things that are useful. IE: Bring in Scourge, Slow, Gravity, or Cure from THM/CON to augment your developing discipline. These extra abilities will prove useful as well as the pure HP/MP buff from having a higher Physical Level. Combat is much less about "spamming spells" and much more about keeping yourself open to change tactics when needed.

Naturally improving your PL will help you with your Ranks. Really... I was not aware of that. How so? :? Increased points means more HP, more MP, more defense and accuracy, making it easier to push even at R1.

I hate to suggest this, but have you considered reinstalling the client? Were you part of the beta? Did you delete the beta folder in My Games?

Originally it was nice to see the animations work together rather than snap as they do. FFXIV suffers from that a little bit, particularly when combat lag gets involved. I got to 28 and gave up at that point. It felt like a pointless waste of time doing nothing. At least with FFXIV I've been able to give myself goals to work towards due to it's versatility. The XP penalty in FFXI made it absolutely infuriating. This was the experience that my father and I both had trying to work our way up beyond Level 10, and every time we got forward, we got pushed back. Sure it's important to make death something to avoid, but it just made it not fun. The lack of income made buying weapons and equipment impossible, and crafting was far above our heads at the time. Yes, the technical XP/hr before was impressive, but that's assuming those rates are gained by people that know what they're doing. "What the hell is this boat? Where are we?"

You pay a crapton in guild points for an item that does it for you is all.

To be fair, (as a THM), I prefer to be heavily reliant on the Dart since the spells are really there to augment combat and not replace it. As a conjurer you could probably get away with spamming spells, but that's not how THM are supposed to be played to begin with. Managing time and using the appropriate skills at the right times makes playing THM enjoyable.

If you hold on to those points and don't apply them after that reassign, could you potentially remove all of the points you added?

It is kind of stupid, but at least for the first month every character slot is free. I activated all eight just for the hell of it (though all but one is canceled now.) Is there a contradiction between what you wrote here and what I have in the FAQ? I think it all says the same thing?
