I feel like such a derp for just now realizing what this book does. I've always known it was in the Inns and that had something to do with cutscenes but it never really sunk in until a little bit ago. I love taking screenshots during cutscenes and sometimes it means I miss the dialogue or even the screenshot that I want and I've always been a little sad I can't redo them. Well apparently you can. Derp. So I found my favorite cutscene and made these!

Welcome to the RPC and FFXIV! The community here is amazing so I think you'll enjoy it on Balmung. As for lore it's a little sketchy with so many holes and gray areas. I would suggest pinpointing what you need for your character's race and background so you don't wear yourself out. I normally don't go out of my way to research lore unless I encounter it in RP and want to be more knowledgeable the next time I'm around it. As much as I like knowing lore it's a little bit of a bore for me to just sit and read everything at once. If you are a miqo'te I can help with that I'm pretty knowledgeable with both clans any other race and I'm useless. Feel free to find me in game and I can help you out.

Welcome to the RPC! You chose the right game to RP in. :3 Wiki templates can be found here. I know there was one that Diedre made but I can't seem to find it. It appears that others have made basic templates though. I'll be online a little later today if you wanted to tell me about your character or test it in RP. I came from forums as well and I still struggle with the change to real time mostly due to tense. I'm constantly going from past to present and drive myself nuts.

Welcome back! I just returned myself after several months gone. If you want to do any dungeons hit me up. I have a few patches worth of unlocks to still do so I might not be able to do any of the new hard mode dungeons.

Welcome to the RPC! There's no need to be shy around here no one will bite you (unless you ask then I'm sure someone would)! I would love to get Rinette and Senah together some time, Rinette hardly leaves the Shroud but I do have a few go-to reasons to get her out and about in the other areas. It was my first scheduled event and I had so much fun! It also sparked a bit of amusing drama with Rinette's friends.

Well firstly I'd like to say welcome back to the RPC! I've only been here a few months so I haven't seen you before. But I'm sure that the people who you RP'd with aren't angry at you for any reason. Everyone here has been so nice and understanding about anything that comes up. I really don't have much of a place to speak about that though since I don't know the situations so I'm going to shut up. It's a good thing you came back now since the new patch is about to drop! We just got information on the vanity system and how that is going to work. Plus we're getting new dungeons and hopefully new gear sets from those (not sure what level your character is). That's what I'm most excited about at least. I share your feelings about the game as a whole, I've jumped around many MMOs and everything about FFXIV screams perfection. The graphics aren't forced realism but not too cartoony. The controls are amazing (except for tab targeting which could use some fine tuning). I do plan on taking a break to try ESO that's coming out in a few weeks but if that doesn't work out I'll come back here in a heartbeat. As for what to do with yourself, I can't really answer that much since I don't know you very well but I can tell you what I did. I jumped around worlds quite a bit until I managed to catch Balmung unlocked to character creation. When I finally did I deleted those other characters mainly because the community here has been so amazing compared to those others. I got myself into a leveling/PVE FC and filled my LS list with a ton of RP LS's then posted a forum looking for RP and went from there. I managed to get in contact with someone who was really similar to my own character and we bonded over that and began pulling people into our RP. If you have trouble making connections IC through random RP try making connections OOC with people who don't mind creating history and making your characters "instant" best friends or something similar. My social anxiety has been a bigger problem IRL so I don't have many tips for online. When you're sending someone a tell that you've talked to the previous day about RP you could always start off with "Hey hope I'm not bothering you" or something like that. Maybe that's just my problem but I'm always worried that I'm bugging someone. The biggest thing though is don't let that one rude person get you down and ruin your day. I know it's easier said then done but it's true and if you can learn to shrug it off and forget about them you'll be a lot happier. I don't know if anything I said helped you but I hope there was at least something in there that did. If you ever want to talk feel free to send me a PM on here, in game, or ask for my Skype name. I don't promise I can say something to help but I can listen (or read, whatever). Alternately I'm always willing to RP in game or on the forums.

Wildstar... I'm not that big of a fan of NCSoft to begin with so even before I saw their idea of female characters I didn't like the game. After seeing the art style I swore I wouldn't touch it with a 10ft pole. As someone else mentioned it's exactly like Saturday morning cartoons and that does NOT appeal to me at all. I would give it a chance if I got a beta invite or something similar but I would never leave FFXIV for it. I'm honestly surprised that no one has mentioned The Elder Scrolls Online yet, it's coming out in about four weeks. I've been doing beta for a little bit of it and really enjoy it. FFXIV is the perfect game for me, graphics and mechanic wise, but it's lacking a certain something that might push me into leaving it for ESO. I have always been a fan of Elder Scrolls and had gotten into it before I did FF (not like it's a competition or anything). I'm going to have a lot of fun searching for the MMOs that everyone else suggested though. :3

My suggestion for the combat rule would be to have all combat through RP, turn based, with a limited amount of turns. That last part applies only when it's a one on one situation. I only suggest this because a lot of RPers I know aren't interested in the PVE (leveling) aspect of the game so their characters might not be high in level and it's not fair to have a character with reasonable IC skill lose to another just because they are higher level. Though I suppose if they dueled in RP gear (most of which has little or no stats) and limited them to a few skills that make sense for their character's combat background it could be fair.
