While the behavior of some of Nebulous was not appropriate and was borderline trolling initially (it then degraded into just nonsense), I will too defend what Lyriah said in regards to Nanami (Nanami = Miyuki = he). He has been doing this passively 'enforcing' rules type thing to try to make us look like hypocrites consistently lately (even at the Mr. Eorzea contest, I saw it), so the lashing out by Nebulous members was due to frustration. Like Mihana said, this has been (or is in the process of) being dealt with through more private venues than a public forum such as this, and shouldn't have probably been posted like this in the first place.

*signs up*.. wait. Female. CRAP. Anyway. Hope I can attend this. Sounds like good silly fun.

Graphic and Technical Assistance (RPC Update Stuff)
Aysun replied to Kylin's topic in Off-Topic Discussion
I enjoy playing in photoshop, send me a PM telling me what you're looking for. >>; I can't tell what exactly you're looking for from these descriptions. Glowy effect needing animation experience makes me nervous when it comes to anything on a website (I hate flashy pages with extra scripts/cursors/weird link colors). -
Gosh, how many of these have there been now..? Succeed, damnit! I think it'd be neat. A nice way to have people ICly relax and enjoy themselves (because that's allowed too!) somewhere other than a bar. I'm always rather interested in these things as well due to my character's love of dancing that she can't find a proper outlet for. Always wanted her in a troupe where she could perform under her stage name, but have people know it's her still. :3 I never even thought of videos as an option myself. That would be interesting, but it would lose a lot of potential for actual interaction and RP. I would like to see both, really, and see which works best in this setting. I'm all for Eorzea-fied plays/songs/poetry. While it's commendable to write your own material, it takes a lot of time and let's face it, not everyone is that creative (-points at self, sad face-). Amateur nights, awesome. SR had open stage night, and it was always fun. Magic performances, songs, poems, stories.. All for it Xenedra.

I think Oskar's and my (and some others) problem with this now is just that we did not realize that this new shell would end up with different purpose than Miyu's original shell. To me it always seemed like the unity of the RP community was first for the sake of RP, and social let loose stuff second. I never thought of the original pearl as a simple 'let's just chat' type pearl. I thought of it as a tool to gather RPers and a list of active RPers. Which is why when the conversations got out of hand on a pearl that I thought was being used to represent and bring together the community, I was upset. With the influx of new RPers from the server merge, I saw the shell as an opportunity for them to join the community and find RP with us here, as well as those in established linkshells to branch out. So good behavior and staying 'on topic' more often than just acting silly was what I thought was expected of us. So, Intermission is a social shell for RPers, not the new OOC shell. Because it doesn't seem like a true recreation of that shell's original goal.. Or hell, maybe I misinterpreted even that original goal. Maybe it was supposed to just be a social shell all along. I don't even know anymore. :frustrated:

These were my experiences in the weeks leading up to my leaving the pearl, and I guess the overall not-just-a-social-shell but having a purpose understanding I was given must just be wrong. All that I said was in no way a shot at you Gospel, but my perspective on what the shell had turned into. I see you attempting now to enforce your rules, and my post was more directed at those whose names you have listed. A reality check maybe, or an explanation of why I and a couple others were so offended by what they did in the pearl, since some did think we shouldn't have been offended. I'm glad to hear things are improving. A lot can happen in a week if you're serious about change, which you are, so I don't doubt that there has been improvement. Mostly I just want them to see it at least for a moment from someone else's view as to why I get so upset over these things. I love this community and support anything to keep it strong. I hope to get some guts and speak to those I've blacklisted to come to an understanding at least. PMS makes me post things that sound nastier than intended, so my apologies for the sheer saltiness of my post. @miyu: I did say that I don't care if that's what you do in my post.

What is this pearl? What is it's purpose? What does it represent? This shouldn't be just a social pearl. The purpose of this linkshell was to unite the RP community here on Besaid. When you are in this pearl, you are representing all of us. Everything you say reflects on us as a whole. When we invite new RPers, you know what they see? F-bombs and constant sex talk. THAT is my problem with the behavior in the LS lately. That is why I left. I don't want to be associated with it, because I am embarrassed and I don't want everyone to think I am like that. When I was inviting new people, I told them to mute the shell, or to please ignore what was happening. Those who are doing these things are dragging /all/ of us through the mud. RPers have a bad reputation as it is, just look at the official forums. We're freaks, or we're all just eRPers. We're being stereotyped over the behavior of a few people. I have blacklisted people in our own community now. I never wanted to do that, because I didn't want to ever exclude someone ICly because of OOC behavior. Now, I am ignoring people completely IC because of this, because they are promoting a stereotype of RPers that I do not want to be associated with. Because they are too inconsiderate to think about others and the community. I will not be RPing with these people, and I will be encouraging others to not RP with them either, because until they learn to keep it private and stop basically slandering the RP community as a whole, I don't think they should deserve it. I don't care if you eRP. I don't care if you're a guy playing a girl, or a girl playing a guy. I don't care if you're a futa, or if you're Ifrit's godchild. But when you make those things public (and Intermission is a PUBLIC SHELL--every RPer who wants to be invited will be), that is where the problem arises. The point of all of this.. Have a little self-control. Keep it in your own personal shells, keep it in tells. If this shell is going to succeed this time around, the only way it's going to happen is if we have some sort of ground rules and remember the common goal.
-
It was when the shell became an orgy again and I was told I was the problem, not those discussing said things, that I left. A little bit of self control was all that was needed. Good luck Gospel.

Great in theory, not in practice, in my opinion. /random is just that, random. It does not take into consideration levels of those involved, skills, and if you say those variables are for the DM to decide, I have a problem with that too. It should be for the player to decide. Godmoding, no, but I'm sorry, Aysun won't die or get permanently crippled without my permission. That is my right as a player. Also, using this before a standard was written, when only the DM "knew" what roll meant what, wasn't very cool for everyone else. Why, when the standard says 69-89+ is a success, did someone miss or 'fail' in some way repeatedly when rolling in that range, where as the other linkshell involved did just fine rolling lower? Hmmm. My point is that it could be a helpful system for keeping battles moving along, but the only practical use that I give it is in 1-on-1 matches when the characters are of equal level and class, and the players want to have a bit of who knows what's gonna happen. And if it is going to be used outside of this, the player's input should trump the /random if it just does not seem right due to their skill vs. their opponent's, not the DM. Gospel's right, it's impossible to respond to this thread without sounding rude. But my opinion's out there. Woo! >>;

This is great but I do hope we put in place some ground rules now that we have repearled. I found mysef today warning fellow RPers before I invited them and I was downright embarrassed by the behavior in the shell.

Odd, there was interest when I mentioned it the other day, and I planned on attending.

Revamping the RP Community by and Elezen who cares
Aysun replied to Deirdre's topic in RP Discussion
I just had to comment on the lore: lycanthropy part, since when I first came into the community I typed up "However, I do not want to run into a vampire/were-anything/half-demon-half-godknowswhat unless the lore supports it." on my wiki. That's my desperate attempt to stay away from a certain kind of painful Twilight-esque RP that I had been exposed to and haaated. To me, all that's been posted says one thing: We all have differences, despite being united as a community of RPers. There will always be some segregation in deep, heavy RP. But when we are at these casual events, we should make an effort to give others chances and to see if maybe they have a style that would mesh with our own. And if we'd given them a chance before and didn't like it? Give them another. Characters develop, styles change with learning and practice.. Unless you have an IC reason to completely ignore someone, always give them a shot. -

HOO RAH I got to RP with some people I really hadn't had a chance to before last night. That was epic. -
Some information on Leveplates from the forums on the lodestone: A player had some questions regarding guildleves and mentioned that the official site explained that guildleves are plates that are inlaid with stained crystal, but was curious how the actual leve content is inscribed within them. Foxclon was able to track down someone from the Lore team to provide some insight into the physical guildleve plates that I think some of you will find interesting. First, there are two types of details regarding Guildleves; that which is displayed on the plate and that which is not. Issuing city-state (Lower right of the plate) This is the name of the city state of the adventurerâs guild that issues the leve. Theme (Top of the plate) This theme is shown through words of highly virtuous deeds performed by people known as sages in the past. The stained crystal picture also has an image of the sage. The above two types of details that are displayed. Besides this, specific information such as leve content and rewards are not physically written onto the plates. This information is shared with the adventurer directly from the person at the adventurers' guild counter. Similar to how you can check your journal for general quest content, the idea is that youâre recalling the content that you remembered (from your notes perhaps?). A player also asked about starting a leve at an aetheryte, how the plate image is displayed above your head and asked for more info about that. Momodi and other NPCs tell adventurers that within aetherytes exists the key to unlocking the power of guildleves. In order to carry out duties outside of the city-state, or that are very far away, a magic seal is applied to leve plates. The aetherytes and aetherial gates function as a key, and by having them resonate when you complete your duties it is possible to open an aetherial node to return with. This is what the animations above your head signifies. This is standard amongst adventurers, so even for duties within city-states that donât utilize aetherial nodes, the same thing takes place when the leve begins. This is a kind of âwishâ that you will complete your duties safely and return. As a matter of fact, aetherytes are referred to as the manifestation of the planetâs lifeblood, which is made up of aether. Due to this, leve plates are also made of crystal which makes it easy for the two to resonate. NPCs at the counter of the adventurers' guilds will explain other things about aetherytes, too. We plan on posting an article on Lodestone in the not too distant future discussing methods for intercity-state travel with aetherytes. Weâre currently working really hard behind the scenes on reading material you can read while in-game. While we canât promise a time period for it, we will be sure to let you know when we can offer up some more details!

I got a little moody today during all this and want to apologize to those who had to deal with it. This pearl is still a great idea, it's just been poorly executed at some points. Gospel has my support in taking the lead of the new pearl when it needs to be made and I think that the pearl will be able to serve its purpose once more to unite the community.

Which server ought RP'ers regroup on? [SERVER MERGE]

Guh I really hope they go with option 2. Then this won't be such a pain. -
Which server ought RP'ers regroup on? [SERVER MERGE]
Aysun replied to Forra's topic in RP Discussion
I have started saying: Current Besaid plan for those who want to stay together as a community as posted on the Lodestone: 1) There is currently a petition for an RP server, if they announce an RP server select it! - 2) If there is no RP server, and they announce server names; choose BESAID no matter what number it is. - 3) If they do not show names, pick server 9. Spread the word. -
Which server ought RP'ers regroup on? [SERVER MERGE]
Aysun replied to Forra's topic in RP Discussion
I was extremely disappointed by SE's choice to name a German/French server, but not an RP one. Link the post as soon as you make it on the lodestone so that I can support the petition for an RP server! For now, I'm casting my vote for 9. The arguments for it are very good. -
[i'll be there! Very excited for this.. Plus I can finally get the pearl IC.]

I think the all-inclusive nature of this pearl is what is going to make it succeed and be used to its intended purpose. I've been an active RPer since launch, and I really did not knew what Redpearl was. I assumed, after seeing Alona in it, that it was an OOC pearl for those who ran IC pearls (a "leaders" or more elite shell), because I had not been invited and no one had mentioned it. I hope everyone will join this pearl. You don't have to like everyone, you don't even have to talk to them. Wearing it will not label you as anything other than an RPer place your name on the list, and that's what we need in the community. Just since its creation, I've been reassured that the RP community can flourish again. I'm seeing people talking about their RPs and asking if any RP is happening. Using the pearl for its purpose. When someone asks "What's going on?" and someone says "RPing," I smile. Join.

I remember when... -A trip to the market wards meant searching every single retainer for an item you sought? -Random RP encounters were common? -You defeat you?

I had to post just to say this: What a great collection of information! You're doing the community a great service by recording and providing this. Thank you.

It was totally great! Thanks for dragging me in! Also, that is a GREAT picture! I must have the full size plz.

So close to a search function SE... c'mon you can do it... This is a step in the right direction!
