I love your style. I really like that face sketch of your highlander.

Wolfsong He has his mother's eyes. Aylard Greyarm let his boots slip off his feet, the loosened leather straps and the metal buckles crumpling to the floor in a heap. He sank to a seat on the bed, a long sigh escaping his lips. The occasional popping protests from his joints reminded him every now and then that he was no longer the young man he used to be, a fact that he was now reminded of daily when he looked upon his only son, Hroch. The day's worth of walking under the desert sun had taken its toll. Aylard slumped forward in his seat, still dressed in his chainmail tunic. It rattled quietly with each movement, but the weight of it bothered him little, for his thoughts still lingered on the man he had met earlier: Gharen Wolfsong. He had his mother's eyes. Aylard could still envision Aline's eyes, the way she looked at him with warmth and kindness. The memory of her smile brought forth a wistful sigh; he rarely let himself indulge in melancholic remembrance, but seeing the son of Aline and Gregor Wolfsong reminded him of days long forgotten--the years he had left behind. It had been over twenty-five years since he saw Aline and Gregor last, and twenty since he buried them. His mourning had diminished in time, and though the pain never quite healed, he had tucked it away. It was easier to do once he rediscovered love with Heather, who had soon gifted him with Hroch, his robust son. But now, looking upon the face of Aline's only son brought all the memories back to the fore. Gharen had grown tall, and with broad shoulders and a strong jaw, he stood tall as his father did; his bearing spoke of strength and prowess. He seemed to be a man of few words, much like Gregor, but his eyes … they were Aline's. It nearly pained Aylard to look upon it. The old man shook his head as he stood back up, undoing the buckles of his armor and shrugging out of his chain mail. But as he turned to lay it on the table, a piece of paper floated to the ground, slipping out from its hiding place in his belt pouch. Aylard set his armor aside and bent down, gingerly picking up the folded parchment and opening it. It was a detailed sketched portrait of two women, one drawn by his hand, so long ago. His eyes crinkled with fondness as he held the picture. It was of an older woman standing with her hand upon the shoulder of a younger woman. Eloisa and Aline Windmark. Eloisa was a tall and proud woman, with fiery red hair and grey eyes, whose nobility seemed to exude from her every pore. Her somewhat lighter complexion spoke of mixed birth, her father a highlander and her mother a midlander. Aylard remembered staring at her in awe when he first laid his eyes upon her. He had just fallen off a rambunctious young chocobo, trying to prove that his sixteen summers gave him enough wisdom to tame a new mount. He was a new hired stable boy, eager to prove himself. But instead, he found himself thrown, landing on his ankle at a wrong angle. The lady of the house had been nearby and seen it, and rushed to his side. Her expression was calm and her attention careful as she quickly assessed his injury. She then laid her hand upon his ankle, and a soft green glow emitted from her body, suffusing him with aether to mend his broken bone. That was the first time he had witnessed conjury at work, and he found himself speechless. Eloisa Windmark gained a loyal and stout follower that day. It was only a few suns later that he then met Aline Windmark, Eloisa's only daughter, fourteen winters old. That day he lost his heart. Aline was a gentle and quiet spoken girl, with darker auburn hair than her mother, and piercing hazel eyes. She always treated him as an equal, class and noble birth cast aside. They became fast friends. And one her sixteenth nameday, he professed his love for her and offered her the portrait of her and her mother as a gift. But it was on that same day that she was sent away to foster with distant relatives. She tearfully asked him to keep the portrait, to remind him of her. He had not understood why then … It was only later that he learned it was to protect her life. Soon after her departure, he too set out to seek a new purpose in life. He was an angry young man nursing a broken heart, and all things reminded him of Aline at House Windmark. Aylard threw his lot in with a group of young idealists, those discontented with the increasing violence exhibited by Ala Mhigo's ruler, King Theodoric. Soon that small band joined with others of a like mind, and they became an organization who would come to call themselves the Resistance. Aylard had never forgotten Aline; she was always tucked away in his heart, though as his fervor grew for his nation, his new allegiance lit a new fire within him. But his path with the Windmarks was not at an end, for it was within the Resistance that he encountered Eloisa Windmark again, years later. She had joined them after learning that King Theodoric meant to eradicate her family, as he, in his madness, was targeting many of the influential noble families for removal. Aylard also learned that Eloisa had suspected this threat to her family years ago, and had sent Aline away to hide her from the mad king's suspicious eye. When Aylard learned of his, all past wrongs and heartaches were forgiven. And he had to see Aline again. He was going to find her, protect her. And true to his vow, he did, but … when he finally came to look upon Aline's face, when he finally looked upon her hazel eyes--the eyes he had never forgotten in all those years--he could see that she had fallen in love with another man. He was a good, strong, quiet man named Gregor Wolfsong. A warrior in his own right, from a tight-knit, loyal and fierce clan, Aline reassured Aylard that she was well protected. She also told him she was with child. She would not follow Aylard back to the Resistance, nor would she join her mother's cause to fight for Ala Mhigo. Aline would stay with her husband, and raise a family. Aylard accepted her decision with reluctant sadness, but as he left, he could see that she was happy with her husband, and was brimming with unbound hopes for their first child in her womb. That was the last time he had seen Aline alive. Six years later, he learned that she had been killed along with her husband, most of her village razed by Garleans. Aylard returned to bury Aline and Gregor's body, but the two children that he knew she had given birth to could not be found. Gharen must have been five years old and Kayle was but a babe. He assumed that they had died in the fire that burned the entire village. So it came as a shock when Aylard learned only a few years ago that Gharen, Aline's oldest, had escaped the incursion, and had traveled with the other refugees south, to Thalanan. And it was not until today that he had met the son of Aline and Gregor face to face, and once more looked upon her eyes. Aylard's callused fingers tenderly grazed the edge of the portrait he held in his hand, as he sank back into a seat on his bed. "I was not able to protect you, Aline. But your boy lived. And he is strong." He spoke quietly to the woman in the picture, his gravelly voice just above a whisper. "I will bring him back to the Resistance with me. What I could not do then for you, I will do for him. He deserves to be with his people." Aylard's dark eyes lingered a moment more on Aline, before his gaze lifted to Eloisa's face. "And I will not let your legacy die, Lady Eloisa," he vowed. "I will make him see. I will return him to Ala Mhigo, and claim the rightful heritage of Windmark. As you once did, his name and his blood will lend us its strength."

Welcome to Balmung! I am sorry to hear that your RP transition has not been smooth. I will say that many RPers will not have shout or yell active on their RP chat window since usually they are advertisements for party, FC and what have you. So you may have been shouting to the nether where RPers were not there to listen. Even when it is scrolling on my window many times I ignore it when I am RPing assuming it is all OOC stuff. Does your friend RP at all? It is always less scary to have a partner to join you in RP first few times. I know there have been disagreements on this, but I've also found Quicksand to be an active RP hub especially in the evenings. The is also a thread about where active RP areas are in Balmung in the RP folder. And! Showing up for organized RP events is also a great way to meet folks! Grindstone happens every week, and the Coffer and Coffin events are always bustling! You can find info on that in the Balmung events folder. And anything that pops up on the RP event calendar. It is a great way to meet other RPers! And if you ever see Roen walking about, I welcome walk up random RP!
-
Sorry Roen, after listening to Dragonspec's story I've learned the error of my ways. We need to have a sexual encounter or no more RP. DAMMIT!!! As if the sandwich conversation was not bad enough...
-
If you enjoy RPing at the Grindstone (yes some great people there!) they also have practice matches on Wednesdays. Another day for possible RP if you want. And I am a little surprised by the behavior you described. I have never seen anything of the like. If they are following you naked, that is NOT RP. And to the OP, I am always about and welcome random RP! I ran into Natalie in the Quicksand as a total walk up encounter, so I -highly- recommend the place.

Aldotsk/Anelia's Little Drawing Corner - and Beyond

I really like your style! -
I agree with what's been said already. Plenty of good advice. It is always a bad sign when IC blends into the OOC. I understand the want to avoid drama, but the behaviors you described indicates a lot of obsessive and passive aggressive behavior. Red flags! I would also advise having an honest discussion with the person, and if that does not resolve/salvage things, break off the relationship IC and OOC. And make the break absolutely clear to him. It will not be an easy thing to do, but once done, you can move on and have fun again.

Welcome back! It can't be fun to feel lost, especially if you are looking for some RP to sink your teeth into! I am just going to echo what Natalie and Siha said. I would be happy to have Roen run into Theodoric to expand your circle. She's looking for some Highlanders to question anyways... (er... I am assuming you play a Highlander from your pic) And if you are playing a Highlander with loyalties to Ala Mhigo... I -might- have a hook for you.

I. LOVE. THIS. IDEA! Although... my ex-Ishgardian character, Raelisanne, is secretly loyal to Garlemald now, she certainly would listen to anyone who may inform her that her former nation has sent out assassins after deserters. She has her own agenda in Eorzea of course, but assassins would definitely throw a wrench into those carefully laid out plans. She can't have that. I would like to join this LS please! Being that she now serves the Empire though... I could probably throw in some conflict into this mix. I'll seek you out next time I am on. I'd be happy to give you some background if your character is going to seek her out. You can also likely find me as Roen or Raelisanne.

Welcome to RPC! Your character sounds very interesting and fun! (in a combative in your face kind of way...) I look forward to running into your character!
-
HAHAHA! I LOVE your wiki profile!

Oh, since I am in that log, I don't care if my name appeared in it or not. It was just a log of the conversation my character and Natalie had, recounting the events. And as already said, it is just to summarize for those interested on what happened IC. No blame tossed around or anything! I know my character certainly was curious to the details of what happened. And she omitted my name as a courtesy, I really wouldn't have minded either way, and told her so before it was even posted.

The whole scene does sound like it was dramatic and great! I think you did all the right things, Nat. It's just at the end the resolution was not received very well by the other party, which is a shame. I can't wait to run into Natalie now, IC.

Except we are fully clothed. And not wearing a doofy but creepy grin. And trying to eat you. And walking all-- Okay nevermind.

Hm. That's a tough spot to be in. I have played with players who like all of the important stuff discussed before hand, and I've also played with those who discuss absolutely nothing and would LOVE to surprise you. And then of course everything in the middle. I don't mind any of it as long as we are all in the story together and trust each other to add to that story. The important stuff is that last part though. You have to have some trust in that other player. I would find it extremely difficult for me to roll with the punches if someone jumped into the storyline in a major way and I knew nothing about the player. Then I would be super cautious about it and I will likely reign in just how much their actions affect mine. And having a dialogue in /say, that's tricky too. I have often carried out some sensitive dialogue (bad guys plotting and whatnot) in /say, without it intending to be heard by everyone. But sitting there at the table in Bismarck just staring at each other while we talk in party, seems a little off to me too. So I usually always speak in /say. But that does open you up to possibly someone else assuming it is something that is playable by those who can hear it. And I can't blame them really, even though I myself always pick and choose what part of the conversation my character may hear, since that can change radically what actions a character takes. Reacting to a confession is a huge deal, I myself would have sent a tell. But I've played with plenty that do not, and the scene still turns out great! Honestly, I don't think there is one good answer. I would have likely reacted as you did, especially if you knew the other player to some degree and even moreso if you respect them. React as your character would to what their character is doing, but send an OOC tell at SOME POINT to figure out the consequences of the actions that were just exchanged. I probably would have done it at the end, as you did to figure things out on where to go from there. Part of roleplay, and especially in a public setting is that often careful laid plans can get derailed, to some degree. Sometimes reacting to them and figuring out is the fun part! But if it completely derails things for an ongoing arc, then you and your RP partners do have the liberty to repair it however you will (the stabbed person was healed by someone else, Natalie pulled strings to get out right away). Being that the other player put your character in an extreme situation, I don't think it would have been fair for them to then not allow you the liberty to figure a way out of the situation, if they did not have one for you.

Looking for those who walked before to lead me, who walks after.
Roen replied to Crystal Clockwork's topic in Welcome Desk
Welcome traveler. I can understand your frustrations in disinterest of those around you for all that threaten Eorzea. But take heart! You find yourself here amongst kindred spirit, those who share your vision and your love of this world and all it has to offer. If you find yourself walking alone in Balmung, feel free to seek me out. I am always glad to meet those who seek to do more in this world, and to call another person friend. ((Also, have a gander through the LS folder! Lots of free companies that are RP oriented! It really depends on what kind of theme you are looking for for your character. And Intermission is always a resource, it is an OOC channel for roleplayers. )) -
AAUUGH!. Attack on Titan. Love. Want. Alas. I will have to resort to mangas if I want story to cont-- Oh. Sorry. HI! Welcome to RPC! People here are super nice, and very welcoming to new players. If you are looking for some random RP, I am always up for random encounters! Welcome to Balmung!

I will second (third?) what people have already said. Do what you enjoy. I personally love to read a character's wiki, journal, IC posts, what have you. I sometimes use it in RP as a hook of sorts, if another character and mine tend to share the same background, I may bring up my own character's background in a conversation to see if the other character takes that hook. Or my character's current affairs just happen to touch on something about the other character's past. What I do NOT like to see though is metagaming. I would put me off if people actually knew personal information that was put into someone's journal or posts, like their father dying or something. Or if another character knew everything about my character's past. I did include a comment regarding what can be used in public RP though at the end of Roen's wiki, hoping that it would help me avoid those situations. So far, I've been lucky in that regard. I would like to think that journals and wikis are more conducive to interesting RP than metagaming though. One character commented off hand that he thought he'd seen someone that resembled my character at the battle of Carteneau. Or another character casually mentioning that they are hunting down Garlean defectors. I like those little mentions because that makes the conversation interesting! And they are possible hooks! So write what you like, but maybe put a disclaimer somewhere obvious to avoid metagaming. It may or may not work, but at least it is there. I have never done journals myself, but I would think it is a great exercise to flesh out a character in one's own mind.

By the twelve, what have I stumbled upon...!
Roen replied to Totoroki Sasaroki's topic in Welcome Desk
Welcome to RPC Thatcher! You sound like a fun person. And I hear Gilgamesh as a close-knit community over there, so I hope you have plenty of fun! FF is also my first time RPing in an MMORPG. Something about this game just lends itself to immersion! And this great community of RPers! (and I can put more exclamation points into this post! Watch!) If you ever roll up an alt in Balmung, feel free to look us up! (I did it again~) -
I'd love to read it! More I know about other people's characters the better.
-
Yes! That was a non-Erik related encounter. That was after Roen stepped in to stop a fight that looked like it was about to break out... that Vague Mercenary was kind of intimidating. >.>

Here I come, and it'll never be the same.
Roen replied to Lenna Faris-Mynhier's topic in Welcome Desk
*waves to Lenna* I posted on your other thread, so I am just going to wave to you here. So there. -
Hi Len! *waves* We haven't actually interacted with each other since you took over. Welcome! Since Roen knows of Erik's passing, I assumed Erik in game is all OOC for now. At least until he makes his presence known IC anyways. She's been relaying the news of his death to those that knew him. Aumeric, she'd be happy (er SAD) to let him know as well, but they've never met. Although she did see you in Bismarck with him once...
-
Welcome to RPC and to Balmung! Wow! Playing a character with Borderline Personality Disorder. That can be a bit challenging. What made you decide to go that specific route? You don't have to answer that though, I was just curious!

Hi Kage! I think Kage is adorable. Especially with his awkwardness. Kage has already met Roen, so feel free to poke me anytime! *takes a moment to poke Kit who she also has not seen IC in awhile*
