  1. Did another thing. Redrew the last pic I saw in here. Enjoy.
  2. Hi. I'm not dead. Here's a painting of Xenedra I did. Have a nice day. See you again in a year. lol.
  3. Gladiator > Dark Knight (GLA w MRD/LNC sub) imo, DRK would be a status infliction and DPS class. I see it as a specialty hybrid that -could- tank if it wanted to, but its main function is to deal damage while enfeebling the enemy in various ways. I feel a few adjustments would need to be made before this could happen. a.) Remove daggers as a sword type from the Gladiator base class and add it to another class (such as Scout) b.) add great swords as a sword type for the base class. Adding a 2 handed option to Gladiator, they could do something like this: When using a 2 handed sword, you lose access to the shield slot, thus losing shield lob and shield bash. When using a 2 handed sword, all attacks generate 2x enmity in addition to any other multipliers. When using a 2 handed sword, attacks are slightly slower but deal substantially more damage than using a 1 handed sword. With a Dark Knight Soul Crystal set instead of a Paladin's... Rage of Halone combo loses its enmity generating bonus. It instead receives status affliction bonuses such as fear, gravity, slow, or paralyze. Riot Blade combo becomes more useful. Reduced tp cost to use vs Rage of Halone combo, increases potency, and an additional skill after Riot Blade to create a new 3 combo. Retains the MP restore bonus. Skills added exclusively for Dark Knight could be something like this: Souleater - Slowly drains HP while increasing damage dealt to targets. Grants the user Blood Magic debuff and is only removed when using Soul Eater again. Automatically switches off if the caster drops down to 15% HP. Cannot be used at the same time as Blood Weapon. Blood Weapon - Applies a buff to the caster which grants a drain effect on all attacks. Converts 25% of damage dealt into HP. Stacks with Bloodbath from Marauder (total of 50% conversion). Lasts for 60s. Cannot be used at the same time as Souleater. Fearful Impact - Next attack receives 100% accuracy and applies max fear to the target, regardless of built resistance/diminishing returns. (Fear prevents afflicted target from moving and using weaponskills/spells) Fear duration - 15s. 300s CD. Absorb - A special skill that changes its bonus effect depending on the skill used before it. For example - If Fast Blade is used before it, Absorb will absorb the a portion of the target's DEX and apply it to yours. Absorb effect lasts for 15s. CD of 30s. Below is a list of skills which affect absorb. Will disrupt combos. Fast Blade - Absorb DEX Savage Blade - Absorb STR Rage of Halone - Absorb VIT and PIE Riot Blade - Absorb INT Abyssal Blade - Absorb STR, INT, and DEX (only half the amount of the other absorbs however) Abyssal Blade - Final weapon skill in the Riot Blade combo. 280 potency when used in a combo. Sacrifices HP to deal damage to all targets in front in a cone (max distance of 10y). The closer the target, the more damage dealt. Further targets take less damage. Would use quite a bit of TP compared to other weapon skills to offset how strong it is. Anyways, that's my thought on DRK. I have thoughts on other classes and how they could become something else, but yeah. lol.
  4. Thank you! I plan to try to sketch on a more frequent basis, though with the game live, I might find it hard for me to rip myself from playing for hours on end.
  5. Gladiator is definitely the easier of the two classes to tank with. It's very "grab and go" so to speak because all the skill chains and routines are pretty basic. In 1.0 I tanked mainly as as paladin, though I also took up warrior for the sake of speed and DPS (this is when speed runs mattered). In ARR, I've been pretty exclusive to gladiator/paladin mainly because of my lack of want to make a new axe and also because of my love towards the changes made to the class/job. Regardless of the being a gladiator or a marauder, as the tank, you definitely have to take charge of the party. Not only are you the front line of defense for your group, but you're also the one going to be marking targets and pulling them in. You have to be assertive in some cases, especially when DPS classes decide to start wailing on the mobs that aren't targeted or are are attacking out of order. Marauders are geared more towards aoe tanking while gladiators function better in single target tanking. There's a special kind of synergy that develops from each party setup, and as a tank, you have to be able to adapt to them. If a thaumaturge is in the party for example, be prepared for single target fights as the thaum sleeps things. If you have a pugilist in the party, be prepared to hold your ground more often in order to let the pug do his positional combos. Lancers and archers are high burst dps and can instantly steal hate if you aren't keeping up your enmity and damage output. You have to be able to see this and let them know when to ease off on their dps (they should be keeping an eye out for this too). Having a secondary tank or a topaz carbuncle changes the flow of the party dynamic too. In these cases, you and the secondary can bounce hate between each other while putting out more dps while still keeping the front line secure (gladiator does more dps with fast blade > riot blade. You get more out of this with fight or flight on.) A few things to keep in mind which should be the basic understanding in a party is that everyone needs to watch their enmity levels. True, the tank's job in a fight is to hold a mob, but he can't do that when DDs are pulling hate off of him by attacking out of order or letting their enmity levels go beyond what they should. Everyone should be held responsible for their own enmity now because there is a clear indicator for them to see it by. Second, healers shouldn't over heal! It is a waste of MP and the amount they overheal by is also added to their own enmity. A gladiator may have lower HP than a marauder, but they have far more defensive skills and damage mitigation to reduce the amount of healing they really need. Further, gladiators can cure themselves in a variety of ways > cure, physik, potions, hi-potions, second wind, blood bath, and mercy stroke all give back HP through various means. Paladin's are a bit more focused so they are barred from using the others healing skills other than cure and mercy stroke. Anyways, keep to it! The game needs more competent tanks, and the only way to get better at it is to keep up the practice. Edit: Also, in the quests/dungeons up to level 20, you can effectivly run parties without a full on healer (i.e. conjurer) so long as you carry a stock of hi-potions and can second wind/cure. Thaumaturges and arcanist at this level are also competent healers. Not having a healer is detrimental to a party, but at the lower levels, it completely feasible to do. This can't be said to be true at the higher levels tho, so keep that in mind!
  6. For those who haven't seen it yet~
  7. Haha, thanks. I'm glad that managed to be conveyed. Since the game is down for a couple of hours, I decided to doodle. Did a scribbly sketch of Bea and her summons. I'll do some real work on it some time later.
  8. Thanks Kass! Also, you need to send me refs!!
  9. Hey all! The new lodestone is up and running, and with it, a bunch of pretty cool features! For all you new players and even returning players, here is a quick guide for those just starting FFXIV: ARR http://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/pr/start_ffxiv/ News: All the NA/EU servers are down for maintenance from 8am - 11am (PDT)
  10. `Thank you for the kind words everyone! I decided to redo the pic I did of Xenedra awhile back. The bow is unfinished because I couldn't make out the details. Gonna have to wait for my collectors edition to get in to look at it better. Here's the old one for a point of reference.
  11. Added some greyscale. Uhm...does anyone have a better pic of the new onion knight gear set? I remember seeing one of the ingame render awhile back. If you can supply by PM, it would be much appreciated! Then I can draw the gauntlets >.>
  12. Thank you both! I started another pic today after deciding I didn't want to color the other sketch of Merri. Had Xenedra look at that one to help me make corrections to the arm, I'll post it when I've fixed it and finished the other details. In the meantime, enjoy the other sketch I started today~
  13. Thank you! I updated my last post with a new image.
  14. <3~! Thank you! I decided to get the lineart done today. Well...most of it anyway. edit: added some greys. I'm too lazy to do the rest of the chainmail (probably gonna make a texture) and I don't like the arm holding the axe. It seems too small/short.
  15. So I picked up my tablet today. Ughhh. The game needs to launch already. I need something to get my mind off of all the unfinished crap I have laying around.
  16. For all you lore nuts out there, here's a new article from gamer escape with some juicy 1.0 lore catch up. Enjoy! http://gamerescape.com/2013/08/21/the-rise-and-fall-of-the-white-raven/
  17. There are two stances you can view this from. There is the religious side of it and then there is the "scientific" side of it. From a religious standpoint, when a person dies, they are sent to the realm of Thal. According to the thaumaturges guild, a person's standing in life is what determines their standing in the afterlife. A person can also be sent to one of the seven hells, but this depends on their actions in life. Someone who kills without remorse, be it man or beast, can be sent to one of the hells and there have been instances that the lord of that hell may send back the person as a voidsent creature as punishment. The only name we know of the Seven Hells is the Black Warden, lord of the seventh hell. From the standpoint of "science", when a person dies, their body breaks down into the most basic form of matter - aether. This is returned to the planet's lifestream. Their soul is separated in the process and it's likely that the soul is what's sent to the realm of Thal or the one of the Seven Hells. Since the body is broken down and returned to the planet, it is essentially recycled and used to create other things made of aether. There are instances where the some of the aether from a body which has broken down may linger in our realm. In these cases, the aether can solidify with other aether and form aetheryte crystals or a strong aetherial presence. When we fall in battle and don't die, we are returned to whatever aetheryte crystal we're most attuned with. This is your home point crystal. It's not explained whether or not this is a conscious choice or if the lifestream simply pulls you back to your home point in times of serious injuries, but it can be speculated that it isn't truly an automatic process - otherwise we'd have far less dead NPCs in the world. As for raise, the game mechanics explain you are raising someone from incapacitation, not specifically from death itself. This is just my thought, but I'm of the opinion that raise is used on someone who's soul and body have yet to separate from one another upon "death" and their body has not broken down into aether and returned to the lifestream. Necromancy exists in the world, which leads me to believe that the zombies we see are devoid of their souls and are merely the bodies of their former hosts, acting more or less as shells for the dark magic that brought them back. Again, just my thought on the matter. Since we don't have any solid info concerning raise yet, I'm sure you'll find out more come ARR next week.
  18. Dungeon Crawl , Part 2 ub3og-QK4Kg
  19. There are far more negatives than positives for a gladiator who chooses not to use a shield. Shield Lob requires a shield and is your primary pulling skill. It generates 2x the enmity that it deals damage for. So if you hit for 100 dmg, that's 200 enmity. Shield Bash is your stun skill, and trust me, you want this on your bar. There are many mobs who do some devastating aoe skills that can really damage the party or apply some pretty harsh effects like paralyze and stun. As a gladiator, you're in the front line to prevent them from doing this as the mob charges the attack. Shield Swipe is one of gladiators strongest non combo attacks, sitting at 210 potency. The only non-combo attack that has a higher potency is Spirits Within, and that's locked exclusively to paladin. It also pacifies the target, meaning they can't attack for a short time (6 seconds). However, you can only use this skill following a block, and in order to block, you need a shield. Bulwark increases block rate, which again, requires a shield. The only way I can see a Gladiator without a shield to even function at a reasonable level of efficiency is to min-max on stats that run counter to what a gladiator is made to do. That meaning you'd be turning your gladiator into a DD, which would require an absurd amount of strength and determination to compensate for their natural lack of. They'd be lacking in actual damage skills as well, putting them far below a lancer or a pugilist with even shoddy gear on. Further, flash, provoke, and savage blade/rage of halone would be detrimental to you because you don't have the full defense you'd have otherwise if you'd have a shied on. If you want a sword focused class, wait until they introduce great swords or possibly fencer. Gladiator is strictly a tanking class in this game.
  20. I'm playing on Fenrir until I can get back on Balmung. If you guys come my way, add me to your firendlist! Character name is M'toto Wamoto
  21. I thought this would be a fun list to make and also see what others can point out. As many of us are aware by now, FFXIV is more or less the love letter to every single Final Fantasy that came before it. While it currently exists within its own universe and has its own lore, it does borrow heavily from previous titles far more than any other title so far. In fact, there are cases where some elements are direct rips from the older games. This is just a fun thread to see how many of the themes from previous games we can list~ Here's a short list of some of the themes I've gathered: Final Fantasy I: Garland > Garlond. Also possibly the originating etymology for Garlean. Light Warriors > Warriors of Light Basic jobs - Warrior, Black Mage, White Mage, etc. Final Fantasy II: Final Fantasy III: A lot of Allagan background seems to borrow from this game. Onion Knights (Knights of the Allagan Empire in XIV) Xandes (First emperor of the Allag in XIV) Cloud of Darkness Crystal Tower (Where the tomb of Xandes I is in XIV) Cid, inventor of airships. Final Fantasy IV/After Years: Engineer Cid Lesser Red Moon Bahamut descends from lesser red mood Final Fantasy V: XIV seems to borrow a bit more from FFV in regards to the Void. The void Gilgamesh Final Fantasy VI: Garlean Empire seems to borrow a lot from FFVI. Magitek technology Gestahlian Empire > Garlean Empire Final Fantasy VII: A lot of how aether seems to work is very similar to how the life stream functions. The Life Stream > Aether Materia and Materia Slots Meteor Final Fantasy VIII: Gunblades Final Fantasy IX: Mother Crystal...Slightly altered. Mother Crystal in XIV is source of all aether, thus all life. Mother Crystal in IX is the source of the origin of the universe, so again, all life. Aaaand that's it for now. I'm currently at work so I don't have much time to add everything I can think of...but that's where you guys step in! C'mon guys, let's see how many older final fantasy elements we can find in XIV! P.S - I left out mobs and summons simply because those are FF staples. Feel free to add them however.
  22. Hey guys, thought I'd share this with everyone. Humblebundle.com is doing a special bundle for charity (of your choice!) where you pay what you want and receive six games. The games are a pretty solid line up but they are a bit dated. Dead Space Dead Space 3 Mirror's Edge Burnout Paradise Crysis 2 Medal of Honor Even if you have most of those, for even a dollar, you can get all six. Cool thing to note is that if gives you both an origin code and a steam code (to the games that have it on steam) so you can do with it as you please (give it to a friend for those single player games!) Also, if you donate more than 4.74, you also get Battlefield 3 and the Sims 3 Starter Pack in addition to the six games listed above. It's all for a good cause, and if nothing else, you can smile knowing you donated your money to something worthwhile. If anyone picks this up and wants to play any of those games, hit me up on either origin or steam! My tag is Aristotleami. The link to the site: https://www.humblebundle.com/
