  1. It serves several purposes. For example, it saved me several steps of clicking when I wanted to move Rhio from Lindblum to Besaid. This having been said, having peeked inside the game's directory structure, it does seem like the information is probably saved locally. There is likely a workaround if you want to save your character for the retail release. I'm just not anticipating it being a baseline supported feature.
  2. To the best of my knowledge, the CE always contained an early release, a security token, a little certificate you get mailed, an early release, an artbook, exclusive box art, an early release, a pre-order item, an early release, an early release, the game itself, and an early release. I paid $50 extra two get two copies eight days early. I have worked very hard on trying to regret this decision and have not yet done so.
  3. /chatmode will allow you to set the default chatmode, so /chatmode party will set you to party speak by default. I've not yet played much with the /tell feature. (Or at least, not with the auto-reply.)
  4. It has some problems, definitely. But as I've said before and elsewhere, this is significantly better than the game I had envisioned, and I'm in love with it. Now if we could just get some useful vendors for armor and shields, we'd be golden. And yes, the UI lag is a bit of a problem. But that's one of those things that always gets refined and worked on as time goes by. I'm not too distressed by that.
  5. Thank you! I desperately wish this had been there as I stared at Ryn, wondering what he was looking for in terms of "joy" that /joy failed to convey. Apparently, it was surprise. For a brief moment I had the sneaking suspicion that I had somehow stumbled into a different game, the sort of adventure game that was all the rage back in the day. The kind where "logic" had no real place to solving the theoretical logical puzzles, where instead you had to follow some insane thread of disconnected ideas that marked what the programmers decided was the "right" process, where you can't use Dynamite to open a door because the Dynamite is used in a different puzzle. I'm not totally sure I was wrong.
  6. I'm going to go out on a limb and assume that no, they will not. Fortunately, since every option is numbered, it's easy to go down the list and transcribe the features you want to save.
  7. Yay, and I'm on it! More information is welcome, although I might just make an alt in Limsa to scan the shops.
  8. If there's one important element that seems sadly neglected on the maps, it's the location of the many important vendors within the cities. Since there are a lot of materials involved in crafting and every job requires specific tools, I thought it'd be prudent to assemble a listing of where all of the vendors may be found for various discipline tools, materials for crafting, et cetera. 9. I find it helps if you mentally replace the potential server names you wanted with names you would never get but you want anyway. For instance, I'm really upset that we didn't wind up on the Gilead, Serenity Valley, Normandy, Thedas, Exodar, or Kryta servers.
  10. Yep, bee-SAYD. Almost like it's spelled. (The second half has a long "a" rather than the short sound you'd expect.) I really could care less about the server name. It's useful to me insofar as it's a reference point, but if they wanted to just call it FFXIV-SERVER-X THEME that'd work just as well. The name stops mattering after about ten minutes.
  11. I'll like Gridania more when I know where in the four-letter word everything is.
  12. Depends on where 'here' is. It is times like these that I love my job.
  13. I'll be the first to say that there were times during the vote that I got a bit critical. I'll also be the first to say that it wasn't my choice of server, either in a hypothetical world where we could name servers whatever we wanted or in the world where we have what we have. And I also logged in on Lindblum when it looked to be winning, made a character, and got working. But Besaid won. It's our server. And any discontent I had is going to be put to the side at this point, because the important thing was making the decision one way or the other.
  14. Rhio

    New Servers!

Personally, I'm happy that the decision has been made. No revote! No revote! Let the results stand! I would have liked to be on Rabanastre, but that would have required it to be on the list. It wasn't and we're not.
  15. I haven't played much in Open, but I did play a bit in Closed. And I'm not going to write a wall of text on it, because I'm going to be writing up a whole feature on my first impressions prior to the game's launch, and I'm not fond of doing the work twice. Heck, I might even change my impressions. That being said, this far? This game isn't the game I was hoping for. It is much better. The game feels huge, dwarfing, open and enjoyable, the sort of thing I can dive into and enjoy and not fret about when I don't yet know everything. I actually want to work on crafting here, and I usually don't even like crafting. I already love botany and mining. My only complaints are the lack of a functional auction house and the fact that I have yet to run into any RPC members or form alliances. I feel stunningly lonely! I need to make some connections.
  16. "Home, she a funny theeng. Bleenk an' she gone, you know? They change the paint an' tro' away all you draweeng. It pees you off but good, oui?" I have no idea why I thought of that in response, but there you go. Back to the isle of Besaid! Last one to Zanarkand is... um... alive?
  17. I'd like to take a moment and thank Siben for having gotten this thread up so quickly and done such a good job at trying to keep it updated. It's been a chaotic rush, and you did good work.
  18. I think it was closer to bee-SAYD, but my memories are a bit on the fuzzy side as well. And while we've all had strong opinions, everyone has remained respectful and calm. Frankly, if this is an uproarious and divisive discussion, I'd say we're going to handle ourselves just fine.
  19. I concur, and it solves lots of logistical issues. The option is not showing up for me, for some reason, but I voted for Trabia in the first place.
  20. Lindblum appears to be at two chocobos, with Mysidia and Figaro at three, and I believe one other server at two.
