I always pictured Gerik with a bee there. Just sayin'.

Rhio is an odd case because she's almost always employed, just never for very long. She switches employers regularly, and prior to the time skip it worked out just fine because she had more than enough independent money to render extra income a bonus rather than a necessity. The only time she was completely unemployed was during her brief period of imprisonment. In 1.0 she worked as a scholar, a teacher, a militia trainee, a soldier, a lawyer, a publicist, a diplomat, a scout, and a spy. After the time skip, I know she'll be working in some capacity, although I'm not sure what capacity that will be just yet. It will not, however, simply be freelance mercenary work. That's just a hobby.

And I don't miss TV. Thanks, Gerik! At least it inspired some awesome art of Eva.

Sad Gerik is adorable. I want to give him, like, all the hugs. Great work!

Hail to the queen, baby. Nice work, Deir.
-
Hardly your fault; you're the victim here. Thanks for keeping us updated as best you could and for pulling everything back together!

Rhio was 29 at the last battle and did indeed skip through time, so she'll still be 29 after the relaunch. Rather than trying to make things line up, I'm just going to go ahead and say that her next nameday will be the one wherein she actually ticks over to 30. By complete coincidence, during 1.0 I was nearly the exact same age as Rhio, since her nameday is just about a month after mine.

It doesn't affect Rhio, but I'm glad to see it.
-
Man, these look better with each installment.

He should invite more of the ladies to the gun show. Ladies love guns.

Oh, I'm definitely jumping on this. (Not that I'm exactly glad to have someone forced to do emergency commissions, but I'm glad to be able to offer money to someone who needs it, and the discount helps as I'm not exactly flush myself at the moment.)

Character Bio's, backstory, background, whatever you wanna call it!
Rhio replied to JaydenMoon's topic in RP Discussion
Rhio has a lot of stories. Some of them even line up with objective reality. Some of those even involve her. And some of those actually get told to other people. When she can find no other way to technically tell the truth without actually being honest. -
Rhio's mother has always been alive, because I keep thinking I'll have some use for her even though she keeps just showing up via oblique references. Should the game allow me to properly model a miqo'te woman pushing 50 who still can use an axe with the amount of thought most people put into breathing, she's a candidate for althood. In addition, her father is still alive. I've never explored who Rhio's father is, she has never bothered asking any questions about it, and I've always left it completely open in case a perfect opportunity came up. It has not happened yet. Regardless, I have now closed off the possibility that he is dead.

Red velvet cake ice cream for Rhio. There are a lot of recipes out there, but the origin of this particular photo is located here. Ben & Jerry's also sells this flavor; it's pretty excellent.

Don't call it a comeback; you've been here for years. Welcome back!

Congratulations to all of the winners, and thanks for a fun contest!

Rhio Aldul Spawn conditions: Investigating the "Unassuming Diary" within Ul'dah will allow players to enter the battlefield. Players must first have the "Cipher Key" key item, obtained from the quest Memory of Truth Job: Gambler HP: 17,000 Elemental Affinity: Changes during fight Special Abilities: Aetherial Blood - Whenever Rhio is afflicted by a debuff, she gains this buff for 30 seconds. This adds roughly a 15% chance of inflicting the original debuff to the target of her other abilities or her standard attack. So long as Aetherial Blood is active, further debuffs will not trigger a new buff, nor will any active debuffs trigger it once the buff's duration wears off. In addition, she is immune to the debuff that triggered Aetherial Blood during its duration. Teleport Shuffle - Rhio teleports to three random party members, hitting each with one of three attacks; her standard melee attack, her standard ranged attack, or a special melee attack that deals slightly higher damage. Hate is preserved, and she will resume attacking the tank after this ability finishes. Art of Misdirection - Used roughly every two minutes throughout the fight, Art of Misdirection changes Rhio's fighting pattern and abilities. Which of the following takes place is entirely random, and the effects are not cumulative. Players other than the highest one on the hate list are stunned. Rhio's weapon stance changes back and forth, but her damage output is greatly decreased and she will not use Teleport Shuffle. Rhio switches to her ranged weapon and teleports to a corner of the battlefield. Each of her shots afflicts her target with a slight damage-over-time effect. Choking smoke fills the arena, slowing movement speed and lowering accuracy for all players. Rhio's weapon stance does not change. If Rhio is using her melee weapons, she may throw her swords at a random player for moderate damage, followed by thirty seconds of using her ranged weapon. She will then teleport to retrieve her swords and repeat the process. All players are disarmed, with their weapons tossed to a random spot within the arena. Each player must run to their weapon and pick it up to continue acting. Rhio switches to her melee weapons and greatly increases her attack speed. A random player becomes charmed and afflicted with both slow and heavy. All players have their MP and TP consumption doubled. Hate is reset, and Rhio begins attacking random targets. All players have their MP and TP consumption halved and Rhio doubles her dodge rate. Death Sentence - Starting at full and with every 20% of her health lost, Rhio will pick a target for Death Sentence. A counter will appear over the player's head with a number anywhere between 4 and 19. Each time the player moves or takes an action the counter decreases by 1; when it reaches zero Rhio teleports to the player and automatically lowers their HP to 1. There will be a brief period after this during which Rhio will not attack, at which point she will resume her previous pattern. Passive abilities: Elemental alignment changes based on the last ability that hit her (when hit with a Fire attack, her affinity changes to Fire) Susceptible to all debuffs that do not serve as instant-kills (she can be afflicted with Confusion, but it will only serve to trigger Aetherial Blood) Strategy: The difficulty in fighting Rhio is almost entirely based upon the randomness of the battle. None of her attacks hit unusually hard, and even Death Sentence can be mitigated by ensuring that the target is healed quickly. The greatest danger is if Death Sentence is used upon the tank. Rhio will switch back and forth between paired ninja swords and a musket throughout the fight. While using her musket she will generally attempt to move away from the tank whenever possible, and while using her swords she will approach the tank. In both forms she will randomly deal a single attack to a random target not on the top of the hate list, but she will not move to her new target, meaning that only melee DPS needs to fear her random attacks while she uses a melee weapon. Her musket deals slightly less damage than her melee as a result. Despite her relatively low HP and damage potential, players unprepared to deal with Art of Misdirection will find this fight extremely difficult. Recognizing which effect is taking place and how to counter it are the most important lessons, and knowing her various tricks at a glance is the only way to emerge triumphant. Because she can knock a tank's health down quickly, it's vital that said tank is kept at full health or as close thereof as possible at all times; it's also important that any other players afflicted with Death Sentence are healed back up promptly.

Hmm. I guess Rhio could be envy; it fits better than greed.

Sharp Breath Tea Hailing from Ishgard, this tea has long been the province of nobility due to the rarity of its ingredients. One's first sip tends to give truth to its name, as it first hits the tongue with a bitter and almost medicinal flavor, but it has a pleasant aftertaste and promotes clear thinking. - Dried vampire plant - Thanalan tea leaves - Yellow ginseng - Galago mint Sunset Golden Tea A favored beverage in Ul'dah, Sunset Golden is frequently offered to guests as a sign that their presence is welcome. It also has some reputation as a prelude to intimacy, which accounts for its popularity among some Ul'dahn ladies and gentlemen of the night. Care must be taken with the spices in the tea; well-brewed Sunset Golden is sweet and flavorful, but overuse of its flavoring leaves it muddled and overpowering. - Cloves - Honey - Desert Saffron - Cinnamon - Thanalan tea leaves Pirate's Mourning Tea A favored drink among captains and sailors alike, Pirate's Mourning is bitterly alcoholic and slightly unpleasant at first taste, but its earthy taste is favored among those left at sea for long voyages. The name supposedly comes from a story about a captain lamenting his loss of an Ul'dahn woman, but the tea was created by a Lominsan chef who invented the story later to popularize the beverage. - Sour red - Thanalan tea leaves - Majoram - Mugwort Marmot Delight Tea Gridanian tastes and Ul'dahn tastes have never quite lined up, but both nations claim that they devised this warm beverage. Over time, both nations have devised their own twists on this particular drink. Ul'dahn brewers add more apple and possibly some cinnamon, while Gridanian brewers use a heavier cream and have been known to add in sugar. - Gridanian walnuts - Raisins - Dried faerie apple - Thanalan tea leaves - Cream Pauper's Mint There was a time when Thanalan tea leaves were not readily available to the other nations, meaning that only the wealthy could afford proper tea. This drink uses the more plentiful landtrap as a substitute, adding a pinch of sugar and mint to offset the more cloying taste. - Dried landtrap leaves - Maple sugar - Galago mint - Sweet cream Stable Morning Tea Chocobo handlers have a long tradition of testing the suitability of gysahl greens by taking a bite of one leaf. The exact origin of drying a plant and using it to brew up tea is unclear, but the dried leaves make for an excellent base brew enhanced with a little flavoring. - Dried gysahl greens - Dried sun lemon - Paprika - Maple syrup

Rhio is attracted to people. Mild details like gender don't enter into that. One could argue that this isn't technically the case; she's got a soft spot for shy, silly, and dignified men, which isn't really true in the inverse. But the mechanics are less important as a rule. If she meets a person whom she's attracted to, she will pursue them and worry about matters between the sheets at a later date. That makes her pansexual by any standard you care to use.

I'm voting no, for reasons I elaborated on elsewhere. In short, I see it as a feature that's nice in theory but messy (at best) in practice. The problem with major storyline NPCs have their own pages is twofold, with the first being that those characters are meant as supporting cast members for individuals rather than the roleplaying community as a whole. Ellaire Nior Aldul, Rhio's mother, has precisely one role in a storytelling context: being Rhio's mother. Giving her a separate wiki page at best results in creating a new page to contain information relevant to Rhio that could easily be contained on her wiki page. It's more clicks to convey the same amount of relevant information. Second, there's the simple issue that if the NPC is interesting enough to have a distinct page and evolving plots, that character is interesting enough to be an alt at least. The player characters should be the most interesting people to talk about by virtue of being the ones actually doing something. Creating large dossiers on people that will never have any meaningful interactions with anyone outside of your character eventually stops being useful to anyone other than yourself. Going back to Ellaire, I can write at length about why she made the choices she did, but none of that is actually relevant. What matters is that she did, and that affected Rhio for various reasons. It leads to a lot of loose information that could more easily be folded into a single place. A nice idea, and an appealing one at first glance, but one that ultimately creates category and page bloat without adding anything.

Great work, wiki team! I am suitably impressed.

Don't change a thing. I admit not knowing the details. I don't know what started the situation. But under absolutely no circumstances is harassing another player acceptable or understandable behavior. I don't care if you ran over his dog, set fire to his home, and personally destroyed everyone he ever loved; harassment isn't all right. Don't change who you plan to play due to outside pressures. If he follows you, tell him to stop, and if he continues to follow you, blacklist him. If he's involved with the RP community, it's possible to politely say "I do not wish to be involved with this player/character for personal reasons." I cannot picture anyone in the community taking issue with that. Don't let the bullies push you around. Push back.
