  1. I'm a little sad they didn't go ahead and roll stress testing into the last test, but... I suppose that was a bit much to ask while the game was trying to also test other elements. So I'm not going to complain too much. Looking forward to phase 4, yes indeed.
  2. Well, I had time. The Greatest Story Never Told - Rhio may not be a spy any longer, but the mindset sticks. Metaphorically True Exact Words Cryptically Unhelpful Answer Mathematician's Answer Always Second Best - At least, in her mind. Despair Event Horizon - Well, not quite. But she's come damn close. Love Hurts Weak, but Skilled Deadly Dodging Combat Pragmatist Professional Killer - Again, not really any more. But it sticks. A Lady and A Scholar Bi the Way
  3. In the years I've been playing with the community, there's always been a very strong level of OOC communication and a willingness to discuss potential triggers before and after any given interactions. To use an obvious example, Eva and Rhio have been at odds more than once, but Eva and Rhio's players have always been on good terms. (At least to the best of my knowledge.) When something potentially straining has come up, it's been discussed and sorted quickly and without undue drama or hand-wringing. If you want a happy ending, that's completely valid and no one is going to fault you for it. There's nothing wrong with just going out and having adventures, nor does it make you more or less mature than someone whose character is being put through the wringer. Nor does it mean that someone assumes your end goal is for things to wrap up nicely on a laugh with everyone being friends again. But there are lots of different sorts of happy endings. Oddly, this lines up nicely with the Final Fantasy series as a whole. Every single game is all about a group of people off to take part in an adventure, but each game also differs in its scope and the impact of those adventures - and the happy ending the characters receive. In Final Fantasy IX, everyone's alive and whole by the end of the game, and for all the pain that happened there's a sense that what was lost can be recovered. In Final Fantasy X, several main characters are dead, and the entire point of the story is coping with the loss of these people and honoring that sacrifice. Everyone's entitled to their preferences, and it doesn't make one style better than the other. I know what I tend to like, as evidenced by Rhio's history and the people I tend to play with, but that's not the only way to play. Work toward the happy ending you want to have.
  4. It certainly seems the majority are heading there. Which is great - I've loved roleplaying with the people I've met at the Blue Skies events and look forward to seeing everyone on Balmung.
  5. Aysun will be renamed "Grandma Aysun," I hope.
  6. Party until it hurts.
  7. I think the reason a lot of people are tired of it just comes down to the simple fact that the points have been made already, and no one likes the idea of the roleplaying community being further subdivided. One of the biggest things I love about FFXIV is the strength of this community, the same one that has produced a lot of awesome relationships, interplay, and character development over the course of the game's life. The people who don't want to go to a Legacy server don't want to be burdened with an existing community. The people who are already on the Legacy server and really have no alternatives but to remain there don't want to lose out on new RP companions. It's a situation wherein there's no real way to win once one side becomes convinced that the community is entrenched and the other side becomes convinced that there's no reason to not want a Legacy server. Me, I'm not happy about splitting the roleplaying community, but it's not my decision, and we've got the decided minority now. So if you really didn't want a Legacy server, I hope you have fun when the game goes live, and I'm sorry we won't get a chance to play together.
  8. Right. The real purpose of this vote is determining whether there are enough people to make having a second unofficial server worthwhile, since the vast majority of folks are going to Balmung, including people on Gilgamesh right now. And that's a lot of cool people. Also me.
  9. Marice was played by me, Malcolm was played by... well, Malcolm. Ironically, Malcolm is played by my wife. (And doesn't really care for posting on the board, but.)
  10. It was great fun, and I had an absolute blast playing with Marice. Met a lot of new people, saw some familiar faces, and got to enjoy a different sort of event. Kind of glad I let Rhio sit this one out. Thanks to everyone who attended and the Blue Skies folks for getting things organized and working in the wake of huge turnout!
  11. Balmung is the unofficial server, but since it wasn't available when phase 3 started and people had already done some stuff on Gilgamesh, that got nominated. Whether or not it'll become the non-Legacy even more unofficial RP server depends on how the vote on July 1st goes. Personally, I'd recommend everyone head to Balmung once the open beta starts, but that's just me.
  12. Rhio didn't get the Legacy cutscene, so I didn't even know it was in at all until this thread. Disappointing!
  13. Sounds good to me! I can think of someone who could probably use a job that might be a fine choice to work as a sales representative. Just saying.
  14. I will hope to attend, but may be a little late due to plans on Saturday.
  15. I've been a critic on occasion, but I'm going to say this right here: FFXIV's roleplaying community is more welcoming and open than any other community I've been a part of. And I'm endlessly proud of the fact that it's possibly for us to disagree, sometimes vehemently, but still come back together as friends and people who love to roleplay. If we argue with passion, we do so out of love, and it's good to step back and remember that.
  16. I'd append Merri's post by emphasizing the fact that the Garleans are, in fact, very clear about the races they see as lesser - the beast tribes. Ixali. Goblins. Amalj'aa. Sahagins. Kobolds. These races were cast out by some city-states, notably Ul'dah, during the first Garlean invasion, when it was thought that getting rid of beastmen would lead to more lenient treatment by the invaders. The Empire does promote racism, but miqo'te, lalafell, roegadyn, and elezen are all considered perfectly valid. It's the racism of FFXI writ large, in other words.
  17. Knucks. Deir and Rhio's attempts to get killed did result in them now being technically the same age! So that's... a thing.
  18. Rhio was at the battle, wanting to die. Instead, she got skipped forward. It didn't really work out as planned.
  19. This is not a goal for FFXIV to aspire to. Really, emulating any part of The Burning Crusade's endgame is not worth aspiring to. Except Karazhan. That was pretty boss.
  20. Look on the bright side - do you really want to see Sleppy mounts being roughly as rare as air molecules? Because I promise you that would be what would ensue.
  21. It's a mad house! A mad house! (Nophica's Green Dye is made of people.)
  22. I cannot recall his name, exactly, but he's instrumental in several of the early quests, culminating in him showing up as the eleventh-hour cavalry charge as the head of an entire unit of Sultansworn. I'll second that sorrow over the loss of the twins, though. They were a great pair.
