  1. ^ This! A hundred thousand times over! With it becoming increasingly easier to level several jobs to 50 I've been noticing a growing number of RPers that seem to feel compelled to link that mastery to their character's story. This often comes across as being somewhat Mary Sue and can be construed as somewhat off-putting when a character is more or less a prodigy at everything. I dare say it hedges a bit on godmode even. While some may argue that it may fall within the constraints of the game's mechanics, I personally feel it makes for shoddy RP. It makes a good deal more sense for a character to specialize in one or two fields and perhaps dabble in the rest. Aysun's example above was great! And I think the most "real" characters have this kind of combination of specialized jobs, areas of mediocrity, and things they're just bad at. I can explain a little about Eva to kind of paint a clearer picture of what I'm describing here. I apologize if this is somewhat longwinded and strays from the point but I thought it might help. I'm going to put it under a spoiler tag though, just since it is rather lengthy: [spoil]Eva was 30 when the game was launched (she's 32 now) and had spent the 13 years prior working front desk as assistant manager of a book shop in Gridania. She spent a lot of time reading and is well-versed in geography/history but is much more sheltered and not nearly as "streety savvy" as most her age would be. As a little girl she had an extremely strong affinity to white magic but there was an incident that caused her to give up its use entirely. She had dabbled with knitting and weaving throughout her twenties as a hobby. She is a skilled harper from lessons she took as a young girl, but has no singing voice nor any aspirations of becoming a 'bard' in the sense. That is - and likely will remain - simply a hobby she practices in the privacy of her own home. Her father was a skilled lancer and tried to get her to train when she was younger but she never really had any interest in that during that stage of her life. She also discovered a natural talent for ballroom dance when she and her fiancé took lessons prior to what would have been their wedding. So after the game's launch she moved to Ul'dah and worked for Sunsilks Tapestries. If asked she would have declared herself a seamstress by profession - and probably still would to this day. Combat training didn't really come until much later. When Eva joined the Eorzean Guard it became necessary to take up some sort of weapons training and she began to discover some talent with polearms. She lacks the strength to be "top notch" but she is quick, agile, and graceful - maybe from ballroom dancing? She has no affiliation with the Wood Wailers nor the Dragoons of Ishgard (not directly anyway). Somewhere along the lines it became necessary to use white magic again, though the potency she once possessed as a child had atrophied with disuse and that has been a point of frustration for her. She took up training as a nurse (not an official job of course) in order to try and compensate for her shortcomings with aetherial healing techniques. So she can set a broken bone, make a splint, change a bandage, and make/administer certain types of medicine. I have known RPers that played doctors and she doesn't have this degree of competency with it. She is more of a caretaker than a skilled healer. Sunsilks has wanted her to gain some skill with leathercutting to help support her garment making, and while the trade has always frustrated her, she gave in and took some lessons. While she is rank 50 with leatherworking, I will never RP her as being an expert at it. When the level caps go up I may not even take it any further. I have also leveled other jobs up - perhaps not to 50 - but I've made no mention of any of it from any sort of in-character perspective. I don't RP her as having had any experience with hand-to-hand combat in spite of having leveled it. She has NO experience with an axe, even though the job is leveled beyond rank 1.[/spoil] TLDR: I am rank 50 Lancer/Dragoon, Conjurer/WhiteMage, Weaver, and Leatherworker. But of these the only one I would really RP her as being something of an expert at would be Weaver. I think she has the capacity to be a skilled White Mage as well, but... well... life's about the journey, not the destination. Sorry if this comes across as rambling... it's a slow day at work. I also think this post should be moved over to the RP discussion forum but do not seem to have the mod rights to perform that so maybe Kylin will~

  3. Oh, I know! And I didn't mean to target you or anything like that. After re-reading my post I can see how it may have sounded somewhat offputting. Please don't think that. I just wanted to kind of point out how two different RPers can do the same thing in two different ways. Personally my preference is to illustrate my character's thoughts and feelings as conveyed through her actions and expressions. And yours is to convey those thoughts and feelings more directly. Both ways are perfectly acceptable and I think it can translate well in either direction. If we were to interact and you RPed the sandwich remark, I would probably assume your character wore a facial expression that kind of gave that conclusion anyway. Just as you might assume from my character's expression or actions that she enjoyed the sandwich but wasn't sure she wanted another or not. Kind of getting off point here but just wanted to clarify that a bit.
  4. Oh yes, great point about the DRG storyline! You are constantly told how awesome and unique you are and it's sort of ironic when you run around and see a hundred other people running around looking like spiky black hedgemoles. One thing I did want to point out though, with regard to your example: I agree that overly flowery and longwinded emotes can get tiresome when done in abundance. Once in awhile when there's something important to convey I can understand it. But in the example above there are some assumptions made. As a personal preference, I'm not a fan of emotes where thoughts and opinions are directly conveyed rather than done through the physical "act" itself. Reason being, as a third party observer I am not a mind-reader and don't know that you find that sandwich delicious. I think that style is great for writing - "omniscient reader" if memory serves - but it's just a preference of mine for RP. I know a lot of people RP in past-tense too and that's their preference, but like you I prefer present tense for my emotes as well. My own way of handling such an emote would look more like the following: "/em eats the sandwich quickly and pats her belly with a look of contentment upon her face. A moment later she eyes the menu apprehensively." I'm not opposed to the mindreader type of RP and I would never say outright "this is wrong" because everyone has a different style and different preferences. I just wanted to kind of illustrate this point. There's really no 'wrong' here. And it's easy enough to interact with people who do have different styles and ways of conducting their RP. There is no real "standard" way to RP.
  5. I can kind of try to answer each of these in turn, but not everyone is going to be of exactly the same opinion so please take these suggestions as nothing official but more of a guideline that I've found to be kind of a roadmap to satisfying RP. 1. Backgrounds: [spoil]What's the "limit" so to speak? I bring this up because with 2.0, I've been planning my male miq'ote character a bit early, so I'm more prepared to RP him when I can actually make him. I am very intrigued by the type of characters in the game [NPC-wise], such as E-Sumi-Yan in Gridania's storyline. I wondered, are such characters okay to make for roleplay? Not necessarily with that kind of influence, but more so, a conjurer who can "hear" spirits and such. Even further, to prevent any suspicion of godmodding and to help other players feel at ease about it, perhaps he's not the best at it, either. I by no means want to have some super powerful character! I enjoy playing characters who seem a little lacking in knowing what they're doing in a lot of areas, truthfully. They're fun! I just thoroughly enjoyed the idea of being able to hear the unheard spirits and what not.[/spoil] The sky's the limit for backgrounds. You'll just want to keep in mind that certain RPers are more tolerant than others depending on how far things reach. I don't think a conjurer that can hear elementals strays much from the lore, based on a number of the cutscenes and dialogue from that particular story line in-game. If that's what you were wanting to do I don't think that's much of a stretch at all. I've known a couple of other RPers who RP being able to hear them. As far as RPing a male miqo'te prior to 2.0, you're probably going to received a mixed reaction. Will touch upon this a bit more in point #2. 2. IC = IG?: [spoil]I am pretty sure I asked about this in my old, old account on here, but I don't think I ever got to see (or at least remember) the answer. I know that IG, things such as appearances are limited. How can people go about doing anything about this in an RP? Do you all stick pretty firmly to what is available as in-game clothing/armor/hairstyles/etc. Or do you embellish a bit and simply write it out in your post? What if I wanted Mnemosyne, in my mind, to have long wavy hair, but the game limits me to the few options of the character creation? What if she wears a frilly dress and not a Dodoskin Subligar? Are things like that okay to change about, or no?[/spoil] Again you're going to get mixed reactions to this one, but I think the large majority is in favor of the fact that their characters do not look exactly like the game model. My own character is shorter than the game model, more buxom, and has longer hair which is sometimes wavy when it's humid out. These aren't things most other characters are really going to concern themselves very heavily with though so it seldom becomes much of an issue unless such deviations from the IG character model are somehow important enough that they would influence the way others interact with your character. To have long, wavy hair though seems fine. If you wanted to assert this somehow in-game, perhaps creative use of emotes may be used to make other RPers around you aware of that variation. More stark contrasts (such as being a male miqo'te when the character model is pretty obviously female) may be met with a little more reservation. Again, this all depends on the people with whom you're interacting and how open-minded they are to that sort of thing. 3. Roles/Jobs: [spoil]I mainly ask this because I really wanted to dabble in making Mnem some sort of songstress. I know that there is an NPC Songstress as part of the story of Ul'dah, but not necessarily playable as a job (unless you count BRD? It's...kind of close. Sans dancing. And stuff.) --- Are jobs that aren't actual playable jobs okay to have? Pirates? Dancers? Drunken Hobos shouting from a sandwich sign about Dalamund?[/spoil] In short, yes. Again the sky's the limit. I would go so far as to say even that it's better to deviate from the set list of jobs we're given at the onset of the game since not every character should fall into one of these cookie-cutter molds. Characters who are engineers, researchers, guards, etc. and don't necessarily allow themselves to be classified into one set "game class" tend to be a little more unique and interesting. That's only my opinion though, but I suspect it's a shared one. 4. Posting: [spoil]I'm not new to RPing, but am a little rusty. Majority of my time in RP was spent in a chatroom or a forum, where my posting limit was more or less infinite. I know FFXIV has a text limit in-game, though. I just wanted some advice on how to condense down my writing, but still getting my bit across, without seeming "lazy," if that makes any sense.[/spoil] The text limit in game is pretty long now. I'm not too sure of your style, but for the purposes of dialogue unless you're going on some longwinded tangent you can usually say what needs to be said within one "line" of text. These may often be coupled with emotes as well. There are a lot of creative ways that this can be done and I think once you begin RPing with others and see how they talk and emote in the setting of FFXIV you'll probably feel a lot more comfortable about it. 5. Icebreakers: [spoil]I wanted to ask, is it acceptable not to have a heavily in-depth background for a character? Not out of laziness or mystique, to be honest, but more because despite playing FFXIV at launch, I left until this Welcome Back Campaign. I'm not entirely familiar with too much of the lore, storylines, setting, etc. Sometimes it is easier for me to play a character as a bit of a newblet to whatever their role may be, that way, as they learn- I learn! Is this acceptable etiquette? ;; [As a sub-question; As a player who is new to RPing in the FFXIV world, how can I really break the ice? Introduce myself? I am terribly shy/afraid of judgement, but still I find that no excuse! I'd really like to start diving into all this without making an absolute fool of myself.][/spoil] Not having an in-depth background for a character at first is fine. The lore has been known to shift a bit and it's entirely possible that the floor may be removed from under us at any time with regard to backstory. There is no expectation in my mind that a character must have a fully fleshed-out backhistory. This can be made up as you go along. As far as breaking the ice, most every other RPer I've interacted with is friendly and open and very few are judgmental. I think you should just dive right in, but perhaps watch how other RPers interact with each other for awhile and observe for a little while before you start adding too many dimensions to your own character. I've seen some really amazing characters start out rather two-dimensional and after soaking in what others are doing they've been able to find a niche or otherwise adapt themselves into becoming a unique and intriguing character. 6. Consistancy: [spoil]How closely do people (though I know this varies between linkshells) stick to the FFXIV storylines? Do you make up your own mini stories to roleplay, or do some people stick to stories such as the ones you play when starting out in either of the three city-states? [i figure this might be difficult? Using Gridania as an example, I know the main storyline puts you as a "super special person" who knows mooglespeak and was summoned by the elementals. So I know that in RP, it would be difficult to apply this to every player who started in Gridania, yes? However, I wanted to ask, to know where things stood!][/spoil] This does vary greatly between linkshells. I can't speak to all RPers, but I know some avoid the "super special" elements of the actual storyline, can't interpret mooglespeak, etc. Just because something's happened in the actual storyline doesn't necessarily mean that your character needed to be a part of it. Everyone is going to have differing opinions. It's like [if you're familiar with FFXI] how not everyone could have defeated the one and only Shadowlord, for instance. Some things, while they may have happened in-game, we almost have to keep quiet about so as to avoid spoiling things for those who may not yet have gotten to that point. I know this became a rather lengthy response but I hope it answered at least some of your questions. If you want to bounce any more ideas off of me, please feel free to ask them here, or shoot me a PM or my name in-game is Eva Ianeira - I don't bite.
  6. I like the idea! The last category about linkshell affiliation seems a bit confusing to me. The rest of the questions seem to deal directly with an individual character's traits rather than affiliations. Being that characters may belong to more than one group, it seems to muddy the waters a bit. Another question I had - while the census is for characters and not players, is it being conducted in an in-character fashion? I'm sure some characters might willfully fib about themselves so I can see where this might not be such a good idea if you're looking for accurate results from it. Also I'm not sure anyone, in-character, would check off something like "Secret Society" if they meant to keep it a secret. So I'm guessing this is about characters but directed to players? Just wanted to be sure. As for suggestions, maybe something about hair color, eye color, height, weight, etc? You have tattoos down there as a yes/no, so maybe some other physical characteristics. These might be harder to manipulate from a web form if you were trying to stick with radio buttons, checkboxes, and drop-downs. Just thinking out loud though. But I do think it's a great idea!
  7. Kylin, you want to be #2 for Crystalline? It will be like old times again. :cheer: If you'd prefer to keep neutral I can discuss it with one or two of the others.
  8. Oohhhh yeah!! I remember now! You were around back when we were wrestling with Lionard (or maybe it was Leo-something... that was quite a few years ago) And thanks!! Sorry for the confusion with that, and last night. Shoot me a /tell tonight if you're around.
  9. Yay~ Duskwight~ Welcome back!!! :cheer:
  10. Hello there and welcome!! Sorry it's a little late. We've been away - just got back from honeymoon~ Just a quick question - in FFXI were you Itsuke? Or someone else? That is all.
  11. There are a number of different metrics that can be used to give kind of a birds-eye-view of what any given RP linkshell is all about. I wrote a post about this a couple months back HERE (2nd post on this page). IC vs. OOC (maybe stated as a rough percentage and with some indication if the LS has its own OOC pearl) Adherence to game's lore (often difficult to measure without specific examples being given though) Style/Purpose/Story - (mercenary company, crafting group, military group, circle of friends, labor union, yadda yadda) Event Types - (casual vs. monumental - does your LS sit around drinking tea and gabbing a lot, or does it spend an abundance of time out dealing with war/death/etc. - I've jibingly called this the "boredom versus PTSD" meter - please take that with the humor which is intended) Another spectrum to go by may be endgame competency. Are you looking for a group that you can join in on Ifrit/Moogle/Garuda/DH/AV/CC/etc. runs? Some do. Others get that fix from a separate OOC linkshell. Also if endgame is on the agenda, are such events handled IC, OOC, or a mix? As stated earlier, another important factor may be a linkshell's views/tolerance towards participation in other linkshells. I think the timezone (or prime playtime) may be worthwhile to post as well. I'm sure there's some other baselines that can be used to help measure a linkshell's various dimensions. This is all I can think of for the moment though. Hope it helps.

    New~

Welcome to the RPC!! :cheer: You wouldn't happen to be the same Bastet that RPed on Sylph in FFXI, would you? At any rate, I'm sure one of the others will give you more information about Intermission (the generally accepted OOC linkpearl that sort of exists to help us all keep in touch across our many linkshell groups), but getting a linkpearl is a good idea and will help you find some direction. You'll probably also want to check out the Linkshell Directory and see which group(s) might make a good fit for your character!! Hope to see you around in Balmung!
  13. This is super-exciting from an RP perspective!! I am glad to see them rewarding those of us who have stuck with it during the "tough times." Having extra character slots and not having to pay an absurd amount for them is certainly a boon for any RPer who wants to make use of an alt to help drive storylines.
  14. I'm still of a mindset that the RPC isn't something that a linkshell necessarily "joins" but rather is a hub for all RPers from all different communities to come together to discuss that. I don't think mandating this in any form is a good idea, for a myriad of reasons which really should be obvious enough that there be no need to outline them. I have little else to contribute at this point that can be deemed constructive, though I will add that I think that if any real progress is to come of this discussion, the best thing that can be done by everyone is to omit any use of quote tags. These sorts of things almost inherantly wind up either being intended as jabs, or misperceived as such, and progress is stymied as good discussions turn into pissing contests. And this is why these sorts of threads seem to fall off track. That's just a suggestion though...
  15. Welcome to the coalition! :cheer: FFXI holds a special place in my heart as well. Eorzea, while newer, seems to have just as many nooks and other great out-of-the way places to explore, and 2.0 promises even more of this. See you in Eorzea!
  16. I just wanted to clarify a few things. First, for those who may not have been around or who may be unaware of the threads posted in suggestion of a clean-up or overhaul of the RPC, there have been a couple good threads posted with a lot of great ideas: 1. Verence's Thread (10/10/2011) 2. Deirdre's Thread (2/13/2012) Moreover, a suggestion was brought up by Merri while back that a weekly tavern night for all role-players be instituted. This was met with a whole lot of 'meh' unfortunately, but this is where I had first suggested reinstating some form of LS leaders section as mentioned above by Oskar. Kylin went on to create a thread with a poll for this but it seemed like a pretty significant number of RPers were opposed to the idea at the time. I still maintain that this would be a valuable tool for the overall RP community such that LS leaders can come together on neutral ground and organize events together, but the lack of such a forum has not prevented some cross-LS activity. But maybe it's time to re-examine that - I don't know. Most of the threads linked above seem to have wound up getting somewhat derailed for various reasons. And I know a handful of us have lost some faith in the ability of people to work together towards common goals. I also wanted to stick up for Crystalline a bit here. Somewhere in the midst of things a number of "new" linkshells cropped up all at once. I don't really view this as a negative. I had noted several months ago (I think it was September of 2011) that there were a lot of great linkshells out there, and felt like trying to make a new linkshell would be a lesson in futility at that point. However I found that a lot of the people whose friendship I had come to value in this game were spread out across a number of other linkpearls to which they felt great loyalty, and keeping in communication proved to be a bit of a challenge at times. So the concept was born. In truth, a handful of people have had this pearl going right back to launch of the game but it was never really utilized until a few months ago in any degree. Really all it is is a place for people who enjoy high-immersion RP to go when their main linkshell is quiet or OOC. Part of its intent has also been to bring not only the individuals who carry the pearls together, but also their linkshells. It's yet too soon to say whether it's a success or not, but... it's an effort. And right now I feel like we could all stand to give a little more effort to help bring the RP community together. I don't really have any other suggestions to make. I would love to see the RPC become the bustling hub it was before the game's launch where it was nigh impossible to keep up with all the threads that were posted. But it seems like there has been a lot of disagreement, or a lot of hurt feelings, or a lot of he-said she-said, or longwinded threads about policy and such, or whatever else that puts people off from wanting to come here and share their thoughts. This really needs to end, but threads like this, and posts like this aren't getting that done. I'm honestly not sure what would. I'm not sure what I could propose that hasn't already been put forth in the threads linked above. I hope this post at least helps answer some questions though for newer members and explains why there is a certain underlying ambivalance with regard to whether these sorts of proposed changes. It seems like there's something of a consensus with regard to there being a need for change. And that's a good start. Figuring out how to bring about this change appears to be the next step, and it's in this where the real challenge appears to reside.
  17. Information about the linkshell itself is here: viewtopic.php?f=8&t=2824 I apologize that it's taken as long as it has to get some information out to the RPC, as we have been around for quite awhile now. But I just wanted to create a thread here, as many other linkshells do, in case anyone had any questions about who we are or any of our policies or anything like that. You can also reach out to me on PM as well. Thanks!

    Crystalline

[align=center][/align] Crystalline Server: Balmung Leaders/contacts: Eva Ianeira (along with several other designated 'keepers' whose purpose is simply to help with linkpearl distribution and forum moderation) - there is no leadership structure here as this linkshell is not an organized company but rather serves as little more than a tool for in-character communication between friends. RP Style: Heavy Website/forum: http://www.crystalline-rp.net RP element: A group of friends and colleagues that use the linkpearl to keep in contact with one another Headquarters: n/a Recruitment: By Invitation Only Rules: [spoil]The Crystalline Imperiatives (Some rules and guidelines which should be followed to enhance everyone's enjoyment. For clarity's sake, these rules are strictly OOC. There are no IC rules as there is no real IC "structure".) 1. Respect all other members [OOC] before all else. This does not mean your character needs to respect other characters. But as a role-player you need to be mindful and tolerant of your fellow guildies. We encourage everyone to not only take the reins with their own story arcs, but also to share the spotlight with their comrades and be a part of their roleplay. 2. There is an expectation that all members will be in-character over the /linkshell channel at all times. In the event that you must be OOC, please be certain to use ((parentheses)) to indicate that what you are saying is out-of-character. This should, however, be utilized more in channels such as /party, /tell, and /say. 3. The linkpearl is an audio-only tool which is a hybrid of magical and technological in nature. These may be worn wherever a member chooses and may be turned on or off in the same manner. Emotes may be used so long as they are audio in nature (for example, *laughs* would make sense whereas *smiles* would not). 4. There is no in-character class structure to the members of this linkshell, however there are a handful of trusted members who are regarded as "Keepers." These people have no rank or power over any other members in any way but have been entrusted to help moderate the forums and distribute linkpearls to new members. 5. Acceptance to the linkshell is handled by invitation only. There is no formal application process. Interested parties may speak with any known member. Any existing member of Crystalline may post on our forums a request to the rest of the members of the linkshell if they feel a friend of theirs would make a good addition to the group. These decisions will be handled on a case-by-case basis until a more formalized process can be nailed down. Discussion threads are removed prior to a new member being given forum access. 6. There is no "overarching storyline", however all members are free to bring their own unique stories to the group and while members are encouraged to participate as often as possible, there is no requirement for this. 7. Be conscious of godmode and don't do it. While it's understandable in some instances that certain characters (i.e. NPC villains) need to be "larger than life", no character should exhibit any traits which set them on an entirely different level than the rest of the RP community. 8. Don't metagame. Character journals and other information may be posted on the forums with the expectation that the events described are kept private unless otherwise expressed. If you as the player know something that your character does not - ensure that your character behaves as he/she would without that knowledge. 9. ERP - If you do it, keep it off the linkshell channel. In this linkshell's previous iteration in Vana'diel, we had a PG-13 rule to limit adult content. We have unilaterally decided to do away with this policy, and more adult-themed content is now acceptable, however we ask that you please don't abuse this. Anything deemed excessively violent, sexual, or otherwise maturely-themed in contrast to the spirit of this change will be frowned upon and dealt with accordingly. 10. While rule violations and conflict issues are not something we anticipate happening very frequently, any issues that may arise should be brought privately to Eva. If you have a problem with something another roleplayer is doing, I would urge you first to communicate with that RPer and see if you can find any sort of compromise before approaching me. Please note that these rules and guidelines may be changed or amended at any time for any reason. The thread in which these rules are posted on our forums will be bumped accordingly in such instances and I will try to remember to update this thread here on the RPC as well.[/spoil] Additional info: Crystalline has been around for awhile now and slowly growing itself. While we are a heavy-immersion linkshell (IC is meant to comprise 100% of the /linkshell channel content), we are a relatively laid-back group of friends who are open to role-play with just about anyone from any other community. We just wanted to make a thread here to announce ourselves since we are open to RP with the greater community. Who We Are: Crystalline is a smaller group of RPers that exist across a number of other companies and allegiances. It is not a company in its own right, nor does it have any statement of purpose other than to serve as a means for friends to keep in contact with one another. The linkpearl itself, while regarded by name, is treated as little more than a tool for communication. It was handed down to Eva from her father, and pearls were initially distributed to a number of her trusted friends. Now, these friends sometimes find friends of their own to bring into the group. What We Do: Crystalline was originally created with the intent of being a 'secondary' linkpearl that members could use to remain in contact with friends across a variety of other linkshell/company allegiances. All content that takes place over the linkshell channel is expected to be conducted in-character. Events have been arranged from time to time, just like any other linkshell. Our Recruitment Practice: New members are brought on by invitation only and there is no formal application process. A brief discussion usually takes place in private between all existing members prior to an invitation being offered. If this is something you are interested in, you may speak with any current member and at their discretion a thread on our forums may be created to discuss this possibility. Please be aware that we are trying not to grow ourselves too quickly and such requests to join may be denied not for any personal reasons but for that alone. What We're Looking For: In new members, we're looking for those who respect RP and may be looking for a part-time alternative to their own primary linkshell. We have no expectations of our members that they be around often, nor that they participate in everything - though we are of course pleased to hear friendly voices over the pearl as often as possible and rejoice at such interactions. As of the time of this posting, the linkshell channel may remain quiet for hours at a time, but often when one or two are looking for something to RP [often when their main pearls are quiet/OOC], it has been known to spring to life rather quickly.
  19. (( Thanks to everyone who showed up! We had a bit of a slow start, and the Garleans picked an [/airquotes] "awesome" night to decide to attack... but in the end there were quite a few RPers out there sharing stories with each other, and we were out there for about three hours or so altogether! I think we heard about a dozen stories altogether ranging from the whimsical to the somber to the inspiring, and even one rather bizarre poem~ I was thinking about doing this as something of a seasonal event, so keep your eyes and ears peeled a few moons from now for another, and start getting those stories ready to share in the meantime! Here's a screenshot from the event. I'm usually pretty good about taking off /names for these but it looks like I forgot: Thanks again to everyone who came out or who helped spread the word for making it such a great time!! :cheer: ))
  20. (( Just one last bump. This event is this evening. Bring a story and some friends! :cheer: ))
  21. (( Friendly bumpity-bump since this is coming up this weekend. I haven't heard too much feedback. There's still time to prepare a short story, some poetry, or anything else you wish to share this weekend by the firelight - funny, dramatic, epic. I hope to see everyone there. And I hope there are a lot of good storytellers. I'm looking forward to it. ))
  22. I don't want to come off as rude, but I have been planning an event for the community in Gridania on Saturday, 4/7 at that time. Would you consider either conducting the re-pearling another night, or perhaps in tandem with the storytelling event (albeit quietly, in /p and /tells so as not to disrupt the stories)? That may work to your advantage as well, since there should [hopefully] be a decent number of RPers there. More info: calendar.php?view=event&calEid=60 Thanks.
  23. Looks much cleaner/crisper from what I can discern. :approve: I like the red just a bit better, but the green also looks good. That's just my opinion though~
  24. (( I just wanted to give this announcement a friendly bump. While still a week and a half off, I'd like to kind of get a feel for how many people going will be planning on sharing stories at this event. If you don't want to post to the thread, please send me a PM. I'll still conduct a system of randomly choosing the next storyteller if it seems like there are going to be a lot, but I may also give some preference to those able to give me a bit of a head's up. So what I may wind up doing is choose randomly between everyone announcing themselves as a storyteller prior to the event first, then once they've all shared if anyone else present wants to tell a story, we can either go first-come-first-serve or set up a random system for that as well. This will of course all be conducted OOC and behind the scenes. Also since I have been asked - while /say and /emotes should be limited during the course of the storytellings as to be respectful to the person telling them, I would encourage everyone that attends to feel welcome to RP together in /party - perhaps as hushed whispers amongst small groups huddled around the bonfire. Also if there are any questions or anything please feel free to post here, send me a PM, or an in-game /tell to Eva Ianeira. Thanks! ))
