Whoohoo!! :cheer: Welcome back~
-
I remember you from the hayday when we were excited to read about the "shader" elezens, before they called us duskwights! It does all still blend together a bit, but RPers continue to run rampant (in a good way!) on Besaid and there are several linkshells devoted to RP. 1.19 is coming soon and there is a plethora of changes and improvements headed our way next week. It's still not without its flaws and I can appreciate that about the graphics card (really wish my laptop could play it...) but hopefully we'll see you again around Eorzea soon, hmm? :chocobo:

This thread seems to have gone off topic a bit. If there's an effort underway to bulldoze things and start anew, perhaps that's best discussed on a separate forum? I was of the impression that this is simply a discussion about adding a new forum to the RPC. Baby steps to success. Let's not get ahead of ourselves. To those who voted no, I would be curious about the reasons why. I voted "Yes with some restrictions". While I won't list any particular restrictions, I will ask a few follow-up type questions: 1. Should this leaders forum be public (that is read-only to all RPC members, writeable by leaders)? 2. How are "leaders" defined? (gold star, silver star, any limitation on members? as it was before I believe the gold star person and one appointed officer were chosen, though there are far fewer communities nowadays than there were back then) 3. How is a RP linkshell defined? (that was, as I recall, the issue we ran into last time. Non-RP linkshells wanted to be involved, as did RP linkshells on other servers.) 4. What about freelancers? I'll go on to say that I think if this is implemented, these questions all need to be answered in advance so that there is no ambiguity "after the fact." This forum should not exist for the purposes of discussing policy and such. It should be a round table forum to talk openly about cross-linkshell activities. As "representation" should not matter, I see no reason to limit the number of "leaders per linkshell" to two as was done in the past (though there probably should be some reasonable limitation). I also see no reason to include non-RP linkshells or RP linkshells from other servers as it would seem senseless to do so since they would not participate. Freelancers should also not need representation here, as such a thing would likely be moot. The only exception to that I can think of would be if a freelancer for some reason wanted to organize some kind of an event. I'm not sure how exactly something like this could be handled. Perhaps temporary 'leader forum' access could be granted to help facilitate this. Further discussion would likely be needed to iron out these points.

Just read through the last couple pages of this and found an instance some time ago where the word "months" was used instead of "moons", so I believe both are also canon, unless S-E comes back and changes it at some point. I think I took a screencap of it but I'm not on my home PC right now - I'll edit this post later to include it if I still have it.

Yay for more duskwights!! Welcome! :cheer: If you haven't already checked out the Linkshell Directory, you get on over there to see what sorts of linkshells are available and which might be a good fit for your character. Hope to see you in game! ~Eva Ianeira

I haven't commented on this thread more out of ambivalence, not apathy. On the one hand I feel something like this might be a good idea to help bring everyone together, which seems to be the underlying point. Bring RPers from a number of different linkshells together and broaden everyone's horizon a bit. I think this is an admirable goal, but I also think it's one better achieved now by working with the leaders/officers of these groups. At one time there was a forum here where the leaders could make posts and plan such things accordingly but there were problems and this forum was removed as a sort of fix. To this day I still disagree with that action, however here we are. Leaders can still communicate with one another through PM's and by visiting each others' respective forum networks or talking openly in game. Does it happen? I think it does, but probably not to the degree needed in order to orchestrate/advertise something like this. It would be good to see these forums active again, but since that isn't likely it would also be good to see the leaders of RP linkshells working with one another to schedule cross-guild events like this tavern night. I think this falls more to the leaders of each of the guilds to work with one another, if this is someone people want to do. On the other hand, not everyone wants to be brought together. There are a number of people who don't belong to particular linkshells simply because of a member or handful of members that they don't get along with. While not everyone would be mandated to appear at something like this, the thought of trying to RP with a lot of "strangers" may seem a bit overwhelming to some RPers. Some of the larger-scale events conducted on the server have been a bit of a headache with chatlog scrolling and such and I know some people (myself being one of them) prefer to RP in smaller groups since there's less to keep track of and I can devote more focus to the people with whom I am interacting. I also understand many LS's have their own events at the tavern, and the very concept of "tavern nights" themselves has grown so completely trite that I think a lot of RPers are looking for something new to wrap themselves around. On the whole, I would have liked to see the event happen. I understand your frustration. And I didn't vote because my own schedule tends to be erratic. And I didn't comment because, for me, the two above points seem to contradict one another. I also didn't want to say "this is a good idea" or "this is a bad idea" because in truth I don't know either way. The writers above me have all made very good points and I don't think you should give up on the RP community as a whole just because the majority of them no longer visit the RPC forums. There is a lot of RP out there and I cannot seem to run across Ul'dah without encountering at least one or two dialogues, often from names I don't recognize (and I've belonged to 3-4 different RPLS's now and feel like I should recognize just about everyone by now).

Welcome to the RPC! Always thrilled to see more elezen out and about! :cheer: I will be sure to keep an eye out. If you're looking for a community to join, feel free to shoot me a /tell anytime (Eva Ianeira) or check out some of the current RP linkshells here: viewforum.php?f=8 ~Eva

Welcome to the RPC Val! :cheer: While many of the various RPers across Besaid do not necessarily visit this portal as often as we once did, the climate of the game is still rich for creativity and RP. Please feel free to peruse the communities and ask any questions you may have. We don't bite (most of us). I'm "Eva Ianeira" in game. You may send me a /tell as well if you have any questions.

Just a friendly little *bump* to remind everyone that this is taking place this evening~

I realize this is sort of a delayed response now, but if you still need help with it, I have the necessary leatherworking skill to convert the pelts to fur. Sorry for the confusion there.
-
If you still need help with this, look me up - Eva Ianeira Dormouse fur can be purchased from an NPC in Gridania, albeit at a somewhat hefty price compared to what others might be letting it go for - I'm honestly not sure what the going rate is.

Holy Necrobump!! I just figured I'd post a little something to let everyone know I'm back after taking a much-needed sabatical from the RPC forums for awhile to focus on the game itself. Just wanted to say hey! :approve:

Sorry to join this discussion late. I've taken a lot of the clan/racial stuff to be typical stereotyping which isn't necessarily always true. Perhaps a subsect of the clan has given the entire group an unpleasant reputation. For whatever it's worth, my own character, also a female duskwight that lives in Ul'dah, doesn't conform to these rumors. Eva is more of a neutral-good duskwight.

Updated the Original Post. For simplicity's sake, after I've added a name, I'm nuking the post to help keep track of who's been added and who still needs to be added. Many of the submissions on the first page stated Lindblum server or weren't clear, so I didn't include those. Please just re-post it and I'll make sure you get added to the server roster. Thanks!! EDIT: Sorry for any further confusion. I'm only adding names of people in the Open Beta who have already rolled characters on the Besaid server. If you've indicated you won't be playing until the 22nd, 30th, or PS3 release I've left the name off since we won't accidentally be bumping into your character - no offense! Just trying to keep the list clean. Also, this is by no means a master list of who and where people will be after the public release of the game. In fact, after the 22nd I think it would be a better idea for each guild/linkshell/company to track its own members and possibly keep a group roster stickied somewhere in those RPS threads.

It's just a name. Honestly, it wasn't my favorite name either. If I could choose I'd probably have gone with Mysidia (<3 FF4), and I'll admit some of the new ones are cool too. The name really isn't important though. What is important is that we're all deciding to go to the server together. The server could be called PinkPixieDust or lolercoaster for all I care, as long as it's where everyone's headed, I'm glad to follow. I think all the talk of a re-vote isn't worth the aggravation. We've got our home server now. Let's make the most of it and start thinking more about our characters and their nuances instead! :chocobo: :chocobo: :chocobo: :chocobo:

I formed the list above based on the names of people who have indicated Besaid server. If you've indicated another server name, feel free to edit your post. If you choose to include a city-state in your post as well I'll tag you with [L], [G], or as well - though this should by no means indicate with any certainty that the character will be located in or around that city-state. Thanks!

Yay!! Strong voter turnout too!! That's awesome stuff! :cheer:

I'd edit the OP, but I really don't want the backlash again. Probably safe to just assume what Soren Miren said is correct.

I plan to focus on progression as well, as I spent a divided amount of time in FF11 between endgame content and RP (most anyone who knew me on Sylph can vouch for this fact). That said, I still feel a low-pop server would be a more comfortable environment for RP and I don't feel that endgame would suffer as considerably as some are suggesting. That's my opinion on the matter. I realize some agree and others disagree. To change gears a bit, I've been extraordinarily busy at work today so I haven't been able to keep up - I know at one point it was mentioned that there would be 20 servers. Has anything further been released about this, or was that just a rumor? It'll all be over soon Cast...
-
I disagree. The server is going to populate normally during the natural progression of things. But even if it was, this is a RP community. Just because your stance towards RP is casual and you are more focused on progression than others might be does not necessarily mean that's the focus of this vote. My understanding was that this vote was to determine which server would serve the best interests of the RP community as a whole. That's my vote and I'm sticking with it.
-
Changing vote to Besaid. I think low-pop is good for RP. I understand the argument about high-pop for endgame, but I really don't think there's going to be any concern about finding people for things, especially with this quantity of RPers storming to the server and these coalition forums to help with the planning and organization of things. I'm not worried about that at all.

I agree. Thank you Castiel! The site remained up during some pretty heavy traffic. I think everyone here can appreciate the endeavors you've made to bring and keep this community together. :cheer:

Cornelia seems like a safe choice still. I like swords.
