  1. I can appreciate not wanting to create any unnecessary drama so I won't press the matter, but the fact that these rumors are being disseminated throughout the RP community and having enough of an impact as to prevent even one good RPer from considering involving themselves with us where they otherwise would... is extremely disheartening. I sincerely hope that the people who passed this information along to you would consider chiming in on this thread because it would be good to hear and understand the reasoning behind it. Perhaps, as Mihana suggested, it stemmed from some sort of misunderstanding. In any event, it's really saddening to hear... As far as the remark about it being more militaristic - I have to agree with that. I can appreciate that it's not for everyone. And given my own character's background it was a bit of a leap when she joined and I've kind of found a bit of a niche as a less militant character in that setting. As compared with the Eorzean Guard, having been in that linkshell as well, I have to say that Everwatch is less 'structured' and a bit more familial. With EG I felt like I was going to work - which isn't necessarily a bad thing - but there was that distance that coworkers sometimes keep between each other, and the hierarchical structure. With Everwatch I don't feel that so much and we're a lot more friendly and more connected. Both groups were/are a lot of fun to be a part of though, and I do miss the Guard a great deal. But you are correct in that it is styled as a type of military group, beneath it all. That's one thing I don't necessarily see changing though, since that is sort of at the root of what the linkshell is. (root? get it? Gridanian humor...)
  2. Thank you both Alothia and Navisse. There are a lot of great points brought up here in both posts. I will try and briefly touch upon each in turn. First, there was a lot of praise there Alothia, and I appreciate that. Your character is one of those I seem to hear about all the time but we have so few interactions. We'll have to find a way to remedy this. What you mentioned about an "undeserved reputation" was really at the very core of the reasoning when we were trying to decide whether it would be beneficial to put together this thread. I have heard (mostly secondhand) that there is a certain stigma attached to the group, and I never really understood it myself. Personally, I always sort of chalked it off to Oskar's character attributes as being somewhat undesirable, and had really hoped that the entire group wouldn't be shaded by the leader's faults. From the posts here I'm beginning to wonder if this actually isn't the case and there is more to the stigma than just negative views about the leader. Next to address a few points that were brought up in Navisse's post - I'm glad to hear that we were something of a frontrunner for you when looking around for a LS. There are a few things you mention that impacted your decision to apply. First, I'm not sure how I feel about the phrase "RP elitist" - even though you took this for a positive thing. While we classify ourselves as a heavy immersion linkshell, I don't think any of us look down upon other LS's for their policies. As I said in another post, there are dividing lines between players, and some like more immersion where others like a little more freedom to break away from their character when they want. The thing I've always liked about Everwatch is that I can take a break from it for a day or two and participate with the OOC shell or with another RP group if I so desired. Usually I'm content to spend a good majority of my time in game on the pearl and in-character, but I know we have a number of members who jump around between other linkpearls. That's not really discouraged or anything either - we're just happy when we have a good turnout at events. Secondly, I wanted to address the journals since I feel these are not the best reflection on the RP itself. These represent our characters' innermost thoughts and offer a glimpse into their own worlds. Valentione's Day is also not far behind us, and perhaps love is still in the air a bit. But for the RP itself I have seen this as something of a side-plot (as mentioned in an earlier post with regards to some more recent events), but I would hate to think that the content of the RP within the group itself is being gauged based upon these. In-character events happen nearly every night and cover all manner of things from training sessions in the woods, to contract work (often doing something OOC like AF quests with an IC spin), to crafting parties and guided meditation sessions. So yes, there is a romance element to many of the members' journals - this cannot be denied - but I have never really perceived this as being a central element to the linkshell's purpose. Finally, what was really shocking to me was this: This would probably put me off as well. And it's upsetting to read this. In my time with the linkshell - probably about half a year now - I have never seen anything remotely like this. Certainly not publicly in any way that would put me off on wanting to be a part of this group - and I'll admit something like that would give me serious pause were it true. There is the occasional flirtatious remark and whatnot, but never have I seen anything like what is being implied. Now I can't say that ERP doesn't happen. I've known a couple characters who do that sort of thing privately who belong to various LS's. I will come right out and say that I have never done anything like this in FF14 myself. I don't think it's wrong, but it's not for me. Eva is a classy girl and the one brief relationship she was involved in was conducted with an abundance of "fade to black." I find it rather offensive that it's being said in the first place to try and warn people away from us. I would like to know specifically who is making these claims, about whom specifically, and why. If you're not comfortable naming names, would you consider sending me a PM? It's false rumors like this that really hurt us, and I can absolutely understand why you wouldn't put in an application after hearing something like that...
  3. I wanted to thank you for making the original post and weigh in a bit as well. I myself have nearly two decades of experience with various forms of RP (I'm showing my age here ), dating back to a MUD I used to play over 16 years ago when I was in high school where being in-character was actually enforced by GM's! I've also RPed in a few other MMO's, most extensively with Final Fantasy XI, and I've dabbled a bit with tabletop (admittedly not that much). I don't think this my opinions and preferences any more or less validity than anyone else's, however. I just wanted to be clear about my background, as I've seen quite a lot in my years as well. There was a thread made a little over a month ago that sought to revamp the RPC, and I think this has been met with some success. I made a post in this thread about revamping the RPC which seems relevent to the discussion. Specifically that as players and as characters, our own preferences and styles are as unique as we are. I listed a few different scales on which you may find yourself with regards to immersion, style, etc. No two RPers are going to be alike, but at the end of the day what it boils down to is tolerance, and I think that's what your OP really helped drive home. I have now been a member of six or seven different, unique RP linkshells in FFXIV. Some were a good fit, and some weren't. And it hasn't always been the preferences that were the determining factor in this. I think a good melting pot of differently styled characters makes for the most dynamic and interesting communities. I'm not going to go into a longwinded explanation of my own preferences. But I will say that I've stepped out of my own comfort zone a number of times since I started here. In Final Fantasy XI, I was part of a single linkshell for about eight years. Different RPers came and went, but the style was generally the same and we adhered to a heavy degree of IC and made use of forums for OOC goofing around and such. That worked well for me, and that was what I grew accustomed to. That doesn't make that the be-all-end-all of RP. As Lyriell pointed out, there really is no right or wrong way of RPing. You could even make this argument for things like godmode and such as well. Where there is no right or wrong way to RP, the other side to this coin is that there is also our own individual preferences that come into play. These are not always so malleable, either. To cite an example (since I don't think he would mind), a good friend of mine from FFXI strayed a bit from the game's lore to go on and create a culture of nomadic people that were centralized in/beneath Altepa Desert. This was nowhere in the game's lore, but he wrote pages upon pages of stories about it and in my opinion they were fantastic! He even drew other players into this lore and it was very enjoyable. I realize that some people may not approve of this, but it's also very easy to turn a blind eye to something like this as well. No individual is the almighty lord or lady of RP and says what goes for everyone. We all do things differently, and that's actually good - it would be dreadfully boring if we were all the same anyway. While I can easily think of several, I'm not going to give any specific example in the other direction. I will point out that such deviations and things can put some people off. And that's no reason to stop doing that, if it's what you enjoy. But a RPer should also be aware of the impact that his or her RP has on other characters. Nobody wants to RP with somebody if it's not an enjoyable experience. That's not to say that you shouldn't RP being the legendary mage-knight who rains meteors from his Excalibur and destroys everything in his path. If that's what you're passionate about, than I say go for it. But I would encourage that with the caveat that one be conscious of how it would be perceived by others. Were I privy to meteor-man in this example, I don't think I would willfully comment on something like this, but I might be inclined to ignore it, or avoid the RPer, as it's just not my style... not my preference. And that's okay too. What's not okay, at least not in my book, is telling someone that it's wrong. It's been my experience that people that RP in styles like this often quickly get frustrated that nobody else wants to participate with them and either move on, or modify their style to something others might be more amenable to interacting with. For many that I've seen firsthand, this has been a fundamental part of the process - growth of an RPer, if you will. I've changed a lot since I started XIV. I was very set in my ways from XI, and there are so many differences in FF14 and its denizens from what I grew accustomed to for so many years. I still adhere to some of it. I tend not to like going out of character while I'm in the game (unless it's on a raid or somesuch of course) since I am there to RP first and foremost. But I don't expect everyone else to be IC 100% of the time. I try to stick to the lore, with a few minor deviations that I feel are reasonable. But I don't fault someone else if they stray from that path. I've become a lot more tolerant than I used to be. I know there are more people here that like going OOC sometimes. I know there is a totally different atmosphere in FF14 than there was in FF11 and the general RP community as a whole seems a bit more mature. Wow... I didn't expect this to get so longwinded. I guess I'll close it out by simply saying that if a RPer only RP's with people that are just like him- or herself, they're probably only robbing themselves of a lot of wonderful opportunities. I think finding that balance between what you really enjoy and what others can really enjoy as well is what makes the experience so fun, and so rewarding. And Tolerance! (cuz I really can't emphasize that enough) EDIT TO ADD: Also I know there is a stickied thread out there about RP Ettiquite. Maybe you can work with Kylin and any other interested parties to help update or re-define this. I think that would actually be a very good idea.
  4. I would be interested in judging~
  5. A notice tacked up in the Mineral Concern: Dancers Wanted I am looking to hire a pair of dancers - preferably one man and one woman - for a bachelorette party tomorrow evening (the 22nd) off the premises. You will be well-compensated for your time. Please speak with the management for my contact information. Thank you! [spoil](( This is pretty much what it sounds like it is. A small group of ladies are getting together to celebrate Nel's marriage this weekend. I thought to use NPC's for the dancers/strippers, but I thought it would be fun to engage the RP community to see if anyone wanted to participate in this. I know there are a few that work for the Concern out there, or perhaps some who might find this a fun way to earn a little extra gil. While perhaps a bit mature in nature, this event should be RPed tastefully - so let's keep it classy hmm? It will be held privately off-site, but we'll probably all teleport to Ul'dah and go to the Concern afterwards if anyone from the general RP community wants to join in tomorrow night. PM me if at all interested, or send me a /tell this evening - Eva Ianeira - first come first serve with this so once the spots are filled that's it. ))[/spoil]
  6. I'm probably off-base in this response because I truly have no idea what happened with that linkshell or how or why it escalated to such a point. But from the view of a third party who has been fortunate (and I mean that in earnest) enough to have the opportunity to RP with you, I do feel that this is very much a loss for the RP community as a whole. But I also understand the need to step back sometimes and see things from a clearer perspective. You have to play the game to enjoy it, and if you're not having fun or enjoying your time spent here, it begs that obvious question. I will say (maybe selfishly so) that I hope that this is a temporary break and that I hope you return to the RP scene at a later time. If you ever want to talk IC or OOC hit me up. You and Aysun have been on my Social List ever since that bandage changing RP in Gridania that night. ((and omg is there really a drake in that basement????))
  7. Thank you Aysun! I wasn't really sure anyone was going to reply to this when Oskar posted it, and I'll echo his sentiments that we do really appreciate the feedback. I have participated in a few events with you now and have really enjoyed it, and I regret that the application process dissuaded you from joining, because I find your character to be refreshing and intriguing. I know that early on we wanted to have an engaging application process where a lot of questions were asked so that we could get a clear picture of what a character's history and nuances would be and how they would fit into the Watch - where their niche is, and such. I went back and took another look at your application and the responses and I can absolutely see what you are talking about. While I don't know what all happened with that other linkshell, I do see how the questioning can be kind of perceived as a sort of 'firing line' and the entire process intimidating. I see this now even with newer applicants as well. We seem to try to poke holes in these applications and see what comes out, and we don't really take much note of the more positive elements of them. I am also flattered (and a little self-conscious) that our journals are viewed by more than just other Everwatch members. My 'take-home' from this is that our application process needs closer examination. There is certainly opportunity for improvement with regard to the way we handle that. Again, thank you for your honesty. I will be looking forward to the next time our characters cross paths again.
  8. Thanks Gospel. I'll look for you tomorrow for my 'demotion'. I don't mind this, as I am not on it often enough to be a suitable mod anyway. I think this is a decent solution and thank you for making this post. Oskar and I were just talking - do you think the other thread can be locked now? It has long since derailed from the original purpose of the thread and not much positivity seems to be coming out of it right now, but I don't think we want to censor anyone if there is still anything of value left to be said on the matter.
  9. Welcome to the RPC!! It sounds like you've had a pretty extensive background with a lot of those MMO's. I just wanted to say I think your character concept is a wonderful idea! To date I don't think we've seen too many RPers that have fallen into a role such as yours (usually it's "I'm a dragoon" or "I'm a dancer" or falling into one of the grooves that S-E has left for us rather than going against the grain a little - not that there's anything wrong with being a lancer or a dancer of course). I just thought someone coming in as a structural engineer was an awesome touch! I will be looking forward to seeing you around Eorzea. Hope this one sticks for you, too! :cheer:
  10. [glow=orange]Campfire Stories[/glow] Saturday, April 7th @ 7:30pm EDT (until whenever) (Different Time Zone?) Gridanian authorities have granted permission for us to have a contained bonfire upon the stage of Mih Khetto's Amphitheatre. On the 7th sun of the Second Umbral moon at half past the 7th bell after mid-day, I would like to extend an invitation to anyone from any nation with a story of their own to share, or a yearning to listen to others share their own tales - be they factual or fiction, comedy or tragedy, stories of heroic deeds of your own, or maybe a friend or loved one. We will gather in a circle around the fire and share in these retellings. Food and beverage will be provided for those hungry and thirsty. Who knows - maybe you will walk away from the experience with newfound appreciation, a few new friends, or at the very least a full belly. A few simple ground rules I would ask everyone to adhere to: Please be respectful of the current storyteller. Please feel free to come and go as you must, as the event may span several bells, but in doing so please be sure to adhere to the above rule. If sharing your own story, please keep it relatively brief to allow time for others to share as well. A queue will be established to determine storytelling order for those interested in sharing. If there are stories left untold after the bonfire begins to die down, a petition to Gridania for another event will be made, and I will see to it that those who did not have a chance to tell their tales the first time are given priority to speak at this. If there are any questions, or anyone wishes to help with the smooth organization of this event (as provisioning food and beverage or acting as an usher), please contact Miss Eva Ianeira. Correspondance may be directed to the headquarters of the Twin Adder in Gridania ((or just PM me ^^ )). I hope to see many faces and hear some wonderful stories! Warm regards, ~Eva Ianeira, hostess ((The above is in the format of a simple flyer that appears in the taverns and places of interest in all city-states. Questions or comments can be posted here or PM'd to me. This isn't affiliated with any particular linkshell/company, and everyone from any RP group is invited to come and participate so long as they're respectful. This is meant to be lighthearted fun and not an outlet for character drama (unless that's the story you're telling). I'll try to make a little more buzz about this one than I did with the Valentione's event. Please help me by sharing this with your linkshell friends that may not frequent the RPC. Thank you! ))
  11. I've been volunteered?! As long as it's non-canon, since "naked" is kind of like the opposite of Eva's thing - it sounds like a fun undertaking and I'm looking forward to seeing it. Character info is on the wiki and I'm pretty sure you know how Eva looks. Most fitting commissioned piece below: [spoil][/spoil] Just to expand on it a little bit she's pretty close in resemblence to her game model but she has extremely long hair (goes down past her hips) and it's a little more 'yellow' than the blonde the game gives her. Her skin is gray/white (but I can very easily envision her blushing) and she has no scars or discerning marks really, aside from her facial tattoo. She's also very short for her race. About as tall as an average hyur woman I'd say, and probably not much taller than an average/tall miqo. She's no longer as chubby as she once was, but she doesn't have washboard abs or even a particularly flat stomach - maybe a little bit of flab but she's mostly toned now. She does have an extremely large chest though - I would imagine somewhere in the realm of 36-38DD, maybe even a bit more (yeah she has back problems). She's kind of motherly. Demure and highly self-conscious so I suppose the pose would reflect this. She often bites her lip. And she's nervous by nature. And her fingers/hands are in near-constant motion. Her neutral facial expression is usually kind of a sad/somber smile. I don't have any pose in mind because honestly it's tough for me to envision her nude in that sort of a setting. lol If you have any questions or want to bounce any ideas off me, you know how to reach me. This does sound like a great idea though! (prelude to the 2013 "girls of eorzea" calendar??) I'd also love to see WIP's!
  12. I know I've been busy lately but if you want another pair of eyes for any of the graphics or need any minor adjustments made (or major ones over a longer time span), just let me know.
  13. Eva

    Hallo!

Hey there Arelian. Sorry to hear you left but I can understand life being busy and all that. It's definitely good to hear from you again. Welcome back to the RPC! :cheer:
  14. I'm looking forward to this! But I just wanted to ask if there was any reason why this event is non-canon? :?
  15. 1) I would prefer something like this done in-person, but I can kind of foresee certain pitfalls, though they're all probably fairly easily avoidable. If the play itself is being conducted through the /say and /emote channels, audience reactions are going to kind of muddy the waters and make it hard to follow what's going on. A temporary linkpearl could be issued to everyone in attendance to kind of circumvent this issue, so long as only the folks on stage made use of it, and all words and emotes that were part of the play could be run through this linkshell. This is probably more preferable than asking everyone to eliminate the use of /say and /emote for the duration. But I think the experience would be more real if it were conducted in-person and thus giving small groups in the audience the opportunity to react accordingly. 2) I would find an original work more interesting, but I think either way would be all right. Or perhaps some kind of a blending of the two. Maybe start off with Romeo and Juliet, for instance, and go a completely different route - perhaps Romeo gets chased by a goobbue at some point or whatever! 3) I would attend something like this, definitely. But probably as an audience member. It would take a lot for Eva to perform/act publicly. 4) My character's late fiancé was a writer and has a plethora of unpublished poems, plays, and short stories that I'm sure she would be happy to contribute, so I'm very willing to help from this angle, but Eva is not much of a performer herself, but would love to be in the audience for something like this, and I would love to see it work. Another thought I had would be to kind of set up "tables" for people in the audience. That is, put everyone into parties in which they can quietly talk (in /p channel) and discuss what's happening on stage and such. Just a thought~
  16. We're all going to have preferences that are as unique as our individual selves. Like Kylin, my focus is on the RP first and foremost. I very seldom go OOC for any reason these days (that's what forum posts are for I guess). I know some people in the past have expressed that think that's weird or whatever, and those are valid opinions too. And maybe it is strange. I never claimed to be normal anyway. Everyone plays the game in a way that will enhance their own enjoyment of it. For myself, I love the RP and the interactions and coming to Eorzea to explore and enjoy this fascinating world of magic and mayhem and mischief. I'd much rather sit in a small group and discuss current events in RP than spam Ifrit runs or whatever. That's just me. I know other people, even other RPers, play this game differently and I can appreciate that. For the linkpearl itself - I have everything set up on two tabs. The first (default) tab is labeled IC and has every communication channel (/say, /party, and all RP linkshells) open with only the Intermission channel filtered. This is how I log into the game each time. The second tab is exactly the same as the first, labeled OOC, and has all communication channels open, so I see all the usual stuff, plus the Intermission text (which is a dull grayish-purple so I can still keep a focus on what's being discussed in-character if need be). I do toggle back and forth depending largely on my mood. This works well for me. Since my time spent in the game is easily conducted in-character 95%+ of the time, the Intermission text scroll often pushes stuff in /say or /party or one of the RPLS's off screen before I've had a chance to read/interpret it. Then there are times when the RP linkshells I belong to are quiet, and it's nice to have OOC/Intermission as a fallback instead of just sitting around waiting for something to happen. It's nice to talk a bit about RP ideas, or planning events, or theorize the way our characters might behave in certain situations. I've seen all of this discussed and it's an entertaining alternative to any sort of actual RP. I admit I feel a little more awkward when talk shifts to more RL-centric stuff, but it doesn't exactly bother me, and I've participated openly in such conversations. I don't really like the extensive swearing or lengthy sex talk, but it's easy enough to tune out if it bothers me. I can certainly understand and appreciate the mentality of referring a fellow RPer to this linkshell only to kind of have to offer a word of caution about it in the next breath. From what I've seen on the linkpearl itself and from what I've read in this thread, it seems like Gospel does a good job of moderating it. Anyway, that's my perspective. I also think everyone here is awesome and made of ultra win. :cheer:
  17. I think the problem some people may be having with this system is that it takes away a RPers complete autonomy over their character. When utilizing a system like this, you sort of hand over a certain amount of control. It's understandable that some people may not like that. For instance, in the example given if a 2 were rolled on a 0-100 than it would be fair to assume that a significant amount of damage would be sustained. Perhaps this character was going to be a part of a beauty pageant the next day (yeah I'm reaching a bit here). Having one's hair scorched off and sustaining third-degree burns might make this dream a bit of an impossibility. For many of us, that's fine. But for some, perhaps some plan-ahead had been conducted and being a winner (or runner-up) in this beauty pageant was some crux to planned future storyline. This dice roll effectively hoses any shot at continuing on with the current plan. Now I'm kind of on the middle of the fence here. Speaking only for myself and my own preferences, I would be willing to roll with the punches. Plans change all the time and I think being able to adapt to these types of changes is one (of a number of) trait(s) that a good RPer should exhibit. In the above example, maybe Eva would sulk about not being able to participate, or maybe it would afford her a chance to try self-healing, or to have to rely on someone else to heal. There are a number of different, unexpected ways this could go. For sparring, I'd be willing to utilize /random to determine an outcome. Before /random I had often just shot a /tell to the "opponent" and determined an outcome. Often it was something like "I'm more than willing to take the loss but let's keep it interesting and lively and let me get a few good shots in" - or something to that effect. This has worked well for me, but adding a bit of a random element might make things interesting too. For instance, supposing Eva wielding a lance (50 lancer) were up against an opponent who was a level 45 pugilist. For the sake of argument, let's say the fight was being conducted in close quarters so as to take the environment into account as well - such as a narrow cave. This would give the pugilist a clear advantage in most circumstances. So if a system like this were going to be utilized and both myself and my opponent agreed upon it, we might roll /random once to determine the outcome and then just let the RP happen after that. Maybe the cutoff would be 35 on a roll of 0-100. So anything under 35 would be Eva's win, and anything over 35 would be the opponent's. And the amount over/under that point would determine how close the fight was. A 35 might mean both wear each other out, or knock each other unconscious. A 25 might mean a long fight with Eva winning at the end. And a 99 might mean that a critical punch stunned Eva and the following attack would render her unconscious and the fight was over practically before it began. The important thing here as Verence already pointed out is that all parties involved need to be in agreement about the system. I don't think anyone really wants to mandate something like this. But as has been stated, it's not a bad idea to use it as something like a guideline - I don't think using it to determine the outcome of every single swing is particularly feasable though. I just think it's important to take all the variables into account - character strenths/weaknesses, environmental factors, etc.
  18. I'm of a similar mindset as Gospel with this and I think he put it a lot more clearly than I did over on the Everwatch forums. Using something like this as a guideline during situations where like-level opponents are going up against one another but neither wants to OOCly concede the loss might make sense. But there are often a lot of character and environmental variables that should be taken into account for the successful enactment of a RP match. In RP with the Eorzean Guard and Everwatch we had done a lot of this without any sort of use of /random where a little OOC communication between myself and whoever I was fighting went a long way toward having a fluid battle scene play out. With systems like this I sometimes feel "the dice get in the way." But I realize different people will prefer different methods and I've known several who have kind of wanted to "tabletopify" the system of combat in MMO's. But, like Gospel, avoiding systems like this unless absolutely necessary is my own preference as well.
  19. I like the new name. It seems to fit with how I use the linkpearl anyway. Like if there's no RP going on at the time or I otherwise need a break from it I toggle the filter and listen in or chatter away a bit. It seems like at any given time there is only a small and oft varying subset of the much larger RP population chatting OOC there anyway. I'm sure there are folks that use it a lot more than I do and the RP is more of an intermission from the OOC, but I think the new name definitely keeps to the spirit of what it is and makes sense for RP. I'll try to pop over to Ul'dah later on at the indicated time for a new pearl. Thanks for doing this Gospel! :cheer:
  20. With regard to the 100 unique classes, I was really hoping to see something like this with FFXIV. Even the 20 in FFXI made it such that you felt like you weren't a cookie-cutter mold of every other character. One of the things that I've been really put off by in FFXIV is the fact that there are only 7 combat classes. Seems like I can't walk ten paces without running headfirst into a dozen other [insert my current class here]. I'm still keeping my fingers crossed that with 2.0 they'll add a plethora of new jobs to the table for us to choose from, but this Archeage looks interesting as well. I'll have to keep an eye on it as well.
  21. I agree with the above, but I think the good outweighs the bad here. Or at least has a much longer-lasting effect. Once we get past the minutia of actually having to get situated onto the designated RP server there should be no more need of this shuffling around or anything. No, it's not as elegant a solution for us as they could have offered, but for the RP community to be recognized in such a way that creative minds yearning for more from the game than just grinding boss fights and such assemble in one place - well, I think that's pretty monumental. Then again, I think it's fair to say that most of the friends I've made on Besaid are also RPers so my views reflect this. For whatever it may be worth, there are still several months between now and when this goes into effect, so plenty of time to get the word out to non-RP friends and try to get them to make the jump with us. I'm pleased with this outcome. :cheer:
  22. Many people have found the RPC from google (or I suppose other search engines). I just ran two google searches for "ffxiv roleplay" and "ffxiv rp" and the RPC site was the first that came up on both searches. While it may not be "official recognition" by S-E, it's kind of empowering to know that that alone may lead prospective RPers to us. So maybe a few changes can be made to the RPC to make it easier to recognize that we're on Besaid/Balmung. I strongly feel that the word 'Besaid' (and later 'Balmung') be added very prominently on in the main portal and forum pages and perhaps even in the forum banner as well. There really should be no ambiguity that this is the server that has been selected as the hub for RP activity within FFXIV. Here's a C&P of the search result (note that 'Besaid' does not appear there): Final Fantasy XIV Role-Playing Coalition ⢠Portalwww.ffxiv-roleplayers.com/Cached - Similar 3 days ago â Welcome to the Role-Play Coalition for Final Fantasy XIV! 23. For shiggles... and because the official forums are just an awful, awful place to have a constructive discussion:
  24. Such an awesome video - a walk down memory lane, revisiting some names/faces I haven't seen in awhile, and a great message at the end! Kudos for putting this together for us Kylin. And happy anniversary RPC! :cheer:
  25. To be fair, Oskar can be a real turd sometimes. As an RPer though, for whatever it may be worth, I have never had anything short of fun when our characters have interacted - even if he was being kind of a douche ICly. Without getting into any sort of longwinded character analysis and derailing the purpose of this thread, I just wanted to throw that out there. @Aysun - I think we're on the same page, personally. I don't know too many RPers here that are into that half-demon, half-princess, half-platypus, half-antling style of yuckiness. I just wanted to throw a legitimate example of something where there are differing opinions. Certain in-game storylines hint at things which some might argue are outlandish and don't want to RP with - I'm looking at you THM storyline. I'm not saying any of it is right, and I'm not saying any of it is wrong. Different people are always going to look at the same lore items and interpret it differently. I wasn't targeting anything you said. (and Eva's not half-wolf, don't worry lol)
