  1. Elezen Name: Valthoran Windwyrd Elezen clan: Duskwight Gender: Male Timezone: PST, However I work evenings and nights. Looking for?: Friends, rivals, and romantic interests if applicable. 2. Does your character fit the 'common' lore of your elezen or are they singular? I think Valthoran fits with the lore well enough, although he left his clan and changed up his name because he felt his family didn't understand him and were holding him back. While he still doesn't like large cities very much, he isn't above visiting one if he needs to. 3. What are your Rp limits, if any? I would rather avoid perma-death as I tend to get very attached to my chars but I know sometimes bad things happen do good people so I'm willing to talk about it ooc if it becomes an issue. Otherwise I'm fine.
  2. Looks like I need to level mine then
  3. In troubled times, there are few greater sorrows than a wayward savior.
  4. I think we could all really get an Ishgard thing going.
  5. Let us petition Square Enix for more elegant garb!
  6. That's a real shame since I was hoping there were some formal gowns or some equivalent in the game. A noblewoman just isn't right without a noble gown.
  7. Since we are on the subject of FASHION AND GLORY, I was wondering if anyone knew of any pretty dresses in game? I know that weavers can make some fashionable pieces but aside from that I have no leads. I have a character who wishes to be a beauty reborn.
  8. I really like that idea Asgarn, Byron could relate to some of his woes. I'm basically going to model Byron after the literary trope of the Byronic Hero.
  9. I removed the underscore and it worked! Thank you very much.
  10. Thanks for all the feedback, it really does help. Indeed my character is also an alt who is a Hyur lancer named Byron Mercer. I was thinking of him having aspirations of becoming a full-fledged Dragoon but perhaps get disillusioned by all the stories he hears from passing adventurers while also getting passed-over for promotions/proper training in favor of Elezen, especially ones with more noble roots. This might make him want to leave and find his 'own way' of becoming a Dragoon and/or proving his worth to the High Houses. Perhaps a spark of revolution lies within his heart? "We all serve the Holy See to defend it against dragons in honor of Halone... why should others be favored by blood when an equally strong desire rests in me? From the stories I've heard from adventurers even the other city-states don't place such a restriction. In times like this such favoritism seems... wrong..."
  11. I tried logging into the wiki with my RPC credentials but it didn't recognize me so I was wondering if perhaps I did something wrong? Any help appreciated.
  12. As the title suggests, I wish to rp as a member of the city-state of Ishgard, however I know that there isn't a whole lot of info on it so I want to share a couple ideas I've gathered and also ask for other player's input on how they like to play their own Ishgardians. First of all Ishgard is ruled by the Archbishop, a man who isn't given a name and is only referred to by his title even by the leaders of the Grand Companies. This may mean that Ishgardians would mention him with a sort of reverence befitting a sovereign and religious icon hybrid, sort of like the Pope. Ishgard's constant war with the dragons wold likely lend a deep-seated hatred for any and all things that relate to them, perhaps even to the point of being outwardly aggressive to people who claim to have a fascination with them. Also this obsession seems to blind many to the events of the world at large. With their devout worship of Halone and animosity towards dragons I could see an Ishgardian being very distrustful of anyone from outside Ishgard and would label them as 'unbelievers' or 'heretics' if they REALLY don't like them. Winning their trust/respect would also be hard unless they were of a similar mind as House Fortemps which welcomes Adventurers and acknowledges the needs for such people with the worsening conditions in Coerthas. At any rate I'm more curious how other people like to play their Ishgardians to help give me a sort of feel for how others do it. I would really rather avoid blundering into something like a fool.
  13. Haha more Wow people ^.^ Although to be honest I did very little rp on retail, I was more of a private server guy. Shhh don't tell Blizzard.
  14. Welcome Jolene! Wow, you've done everything I've done and more... for longer too haha. What kept me from most games was the fact that until I recently made my own computer I was woefully behind in technology. I wanted to rp on GW2 because of a girl I fancied at the time but that went south so I never went back to try it. A pity since I had a char and story all planned out too. I know what you mean about wanting to level some before you play, I'm the same way. If you see me on Balmung don't be afraid to say hi.
  15. Thank you for the replies guys, it made me happy to get a few so quickly. @Erik: Thank you, I just might. Also the picture in your sig is badass. @Chesabell: Indeed it from Antonidas' Silver Coin, its cheering to know another fan of it exists out there. I suppose I will try out both but the idea of a close-knit group is appealing to me so I think I'll try Balmung first. In regards to the name I think I'll keep it as it is and if asked I'll mention a falling-out and the decision to come up with his own name to reflect his independence. EDIT: Hmm Balmung isn't accepting any new characters... a pity. RE-EDIT: Nevermind, I got lucky and got around the restriction this morning. I made Valthoran Windwyrd.
  16. Greetings to all those concerned, I'm The_Wizard or Valthoran (Val for short) if it pleases you. I'm a 23 year-old human IRL living on the west coast of the United States and quite frankly I wish I lived elsewhere. I found this site by googling FF14: ARR and roleplaying and began randomly clicking around and saw things of interest, such is the wonder of the internet. I have been playing FF14: ARR for a few months now because a dear friend of mine invited me due to our history on World of Warcraft, he however became recently disinterested in the game and I have now been set adrift within this realm of Eorzea after the failure of our Free Company. We were playing on the NA server Famfrit where I have an Elezen lvl 50 SCH/SMN named Valthoran Windwyrd whom I enjoy very much, however roleplaying has always been my true passion, with dungeons and raids following in second, and due to my virtual abandonment I have considered setting my sights beyond Famfrit as it is a server without an established RP community. Prior to playing FF14: ARR I was an avid rper on World of Warcraft where I often held the title of "Loremaster," a title which often did more harm than good but why dwell on past hardships? My rp career on WoW began around June of 2009 where I created a High Elven, not Blood Elven mind you, wizard by the name of Valthoran Windwyrd and continued to play and develop him all the way to last year when I slipped into a melancholic retirement... wow that's about 5 years of character development. While gameplay and fancy items are nice, its the stories and lore of a game that really captures my interest and imagination and this game is no exception. However I must admit that I am still learning this game as well at it's lore since I did not play in version 1.0 but I am very eager to learn. The elements of this game that I find most appealing from an rp perspective are: 1. Elezen, Duskwight Elezen more so than Wildwood, as well as Keepers of the Moon Miqo'te. 2. The reclusive city-state of Ishgard. 3. The ancient societies of Nym and the Allagan Empire. 4. Magic in general since its a personal favorite of mine and my username isn't "The_Wizard" for nothing. 5. Awesome-looking clothing for use in RP. 6. Exploration and discovery. Alas I do not have as much time as I once did due to having a job and a girlfriend, who unfortunately does not share my passion for video games, however I still desire a medium to heavy RP environment as it's what I became accustomed to on WoW, although really I'm down for other things such as dungeons, IC or OOC. As stated earlier I only have chars on Famfrit so I would have to choose a new server and start from square one *shudder* so if anyone has any recommendations based on my information offered thus far I would be glad to receive them. And in case anyone feels curious, my main character idea is for a male Duskwight Elezen based upon my High Elf from WoW with the base class of either Thaumaturge or Arcanist. However I am aware that the name Valthoran Windwyrd would have to be "Elezenified" to sound more like French which isn't a real big deal since coming up with names is always fun. As for clans and other such affiliations I am uncertain, partially due to being rather shy in game and not wanting to cause any disruptions. One idea is the pursuit of magic in order to help find a way to establish a new home for the Duskwight Elezen, which was inspired by the NPC quest-givers outside of Gridania, and another could be a more general desire for knowledge of ancient societies in order to gain a better understanding and perhaps better prepare for the future. At any rate please forgive my veritable wall of text, I sometimes get carried away with my typing, and remember to live your role, till sea swallows all!
