The Importance of Consolidating RP on Balmung and Having One RP Hub
Kage replied to Sig's topic in RP Discussion
I think EU's got it mostly figured out last I saw the thread? Maybe? I know lots of people are "well I want better / -this- incentive" but I haven't seen people PUSH SE about it just yet. Now's a good time to really let them know if we would want to see more to move. -
If SE was to designate an RP server, would you move?
Kage replied to ExAtomos's topic in RP Discussion
I read that, but people seem to be up in the air on it for some reason. Either way, I'm not even going to really consider a serious move until I get hard confirmation that we'd get the same perks offered. I assume SE will post more about it the closer Stormblood gets, or shortly afterward when they open up the new EU realm(s) they were talking about. People fail reading comprehension. Edit: I think now's a good time to push SE to elaborate further and encourage those from smaller communities to seriously consider what they would want to see as incentives to move. -

It's actually not only for EU realms. It's for designated worlds across all data centers. -
I think most know it should be related to Rhalgr but the exact group/faction, why etc is unknown. Basically, we have informed guesses but nothing confirmed.

I think this is a wait and see in Stormblood answer.

The Importance of Consolidating RP on Balmung and Having One RP Hub

They will work because we must make sure they work and can see that there is considerable effort in making it work. We cannot depend on SE to do something that the roleplayers can and should do. WHILE PEOPLE CONTINUE TO ADVOCATE FOR AN RP SERVER, a) Please start asking SE to elaborate and to increase bonus incentives to transfer. Think of reasonable things we can expect from SE to do. Tokens for plots?? What else? and b) See above bolded. We should encourage all or many of the smaller communities to consolidate to bolster content creator populations so that 'the smaller community' does not stagnate and fall because of fatigue or other factors that have been seen as factors that have halted progress. -

Yep. Free EXP, GIL, GAME TIME. They have said they will try to accommodate housing but not how yet. We know they can't just copy them over and done but we can try to see alternatives etc. I don't feel comfortable making the thread about it myself on the official forums but i'd encourage and help drive the thread. -

And even if we concede that OP will say "SE needs to designate another server as an official RP server" to concede to the actual limitations... They will work because we must make sure they work and can see that there is considerable effort in making it work. We cannot depend on SE to do something that the roleplayers can and should do. -

I disagree that an Official RP Designation by Square is the only way it could happen. I think the players can make it happen. I don't think we can really stress enough that Balmung is closed and locked for the foreseeable future, possibly forever. If it is unhealthy to keep the RP community split, and the RP community cannot consolidate on Balmung, then logically the onus of keeping the community united is upon the RP community of Balmung. Having been a Balmung RP'er for over two years, I left it recently for Mateus to do just that. I don't expect everyone to follow in my wake, nor do I ask it of them. I would ask, however, that players keep an open mind, and if they're feeling adventurous, to seize the opportunity and join the new unofficial RP server now, while resources such as housing are available, while the ground foundation is still new. Now is the time to strike out and make a new server, and to make it amazing. We don't need to wait for SE to make it happen. While I agree in the short term that choosing an RP server to go to for those without a place now is a damn good idea. Going further I really hope that there is a concerted effort for some on Balmung, some communities in the other servers to join in on a designated world. A thriving, flourishing RP server will come to fruition. -

The 25 thumbs up have to count for something? And yes, a fine petition, I daresay. I'm surprised the PVEers didn't burn me alive. I've had better with less page count. So he did make a thread and didn't want to link it because it's a flame war just like this thread? Why are we even in this thread again? Maybe? -

One was made. It got shit on in the official forums. http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/threads/324984-Petition-to-Terminate-Restrictions-on-Transfer-to-%E2%80%9CHigh-Population%E2%80%9D-Servers -

OP tried a thread and got essentially 0 support for it and that's why OP is here. -
Sorry if this has been answered previously, but have they mentioned a potential date or date range they may announce the server list? No, but I would like to assume they would share this before 4.0 lands and even more so before the pre-order access weekend. So taking that all in we have about 3 weeks to expect some more information before the expansion hits. Maybe we will see something in the live stream Monday. I would honestly suggest and show support for people who started to pressure or ask Square Enix to elaborate on the transfer incentives. What realistically they think SE will and can help with. Perhaps a token for a plot of at least similar area/size. What exactly are they thinking they can do to accommodate FCs and people? These types of things can easily sway or settle some of the issues people would have in transferring to build and further strengthen the communities. What if there are some other smaller server communities who would be interested in helping create more content in a concerted effort by joining with a 'designated world?'

Look at this point, people can decide whether or not they agree with the OP and join in the efforts. But the reason why he keeps going at it is because people aren't following. If people don't want to follow you, that's their decision. Make your efforts. Just do it. If people agree, you'll have your support. If they don't, well you can also see that easily. -

Based on my conversations with people that I know, I would think that they are not going to lift the restrictions and that they don't understand the -why- and importance of there being an 'official designated RP hub. The 'community' will do it. -

This may sound callous, but I honestly think that one of the better routes is that whatever 'server' is chosen outside of Balmung (most likely by the player base), that a large amount of other communities from the other servers feel welcomed and encouraged to also bring their communities as well. I think it would be the most robust choice. It would already have those with track records of being content creators and so forth, leaders to also help support other leaders so that the chances of fatigue and whatnot leading to some fracture would be lower. It's honestly why I want more dialogue and incentives. More thoughts and discussions. Being able to have free transfers, reimbursements and so forth would help. And that's also why I encourage people to also let Square Enix know, realistically, what people would like to see to be able to transfer. -

No matter how common or uncommon such alienating actions (from RPer, ERPer or non-RPer alike) are, first impressions make a drastic impression on people. Bad impressions are hard to shake off. A friend made an alt on Balmung and of all things she had had to see first thing was "Make sure he doesn't grope you." I now have to work in showing her that there are other positive interactions, RP or otherwise. It is so common to see on twitter someone logging into Balmung and looking at any number of chats tweet "Balmung what is wrong with you?" -

We would be better off with having a One RP Hub by consolidating on a server such as Mateus than further trying to consolidate on Balmung. -

Even by LuckyBancho's numbers it was 26k??? -

From what I hear people are going in to buy up housing plots atm -
If they don't have a presence capable of knowing something like this is going on in any way, shape or form, they don't have enough of an infrastructure or base to support a community. I follow a fairly wide amount of FFXIV people. You know what I see? A) Don't panic no one is leaving Balmung. Nothing's happening. B) Hey guys I know Balmung is closed. Come check out the community I am a part of on _____! Nothing very widespread about getting large community efforts across all worlds to coming up with an alternative for NA. Just comments about "I don't think this is a bad idea to do it." The majority of any similar effort I have seen has been on this forum with a small amount of those on the official forums and the even smaller tiny effort on the subreddit. I've seen the effort for EU on social media (tumblr, twitter, facebook). Until this very week I didn't know that there was any presence of any large form on Mateus. I knew of Jenova's, Faerie's, and Siren's. I knew there might still be a struggling one linkshell on Midgardsomr as well as on Brynhildr.

To be fair, there is a sizeable portion of roleplayers who dislike RPC for any myriad of reasons. The question is: did people check or get enough social presence to get the word out to those communities?

Kage replied to ExAtomos's topic in RP Discussion
Putting an RP tag on Balmung wouldn't really do anything and trying to enforce those rules would end up horribly too. It would have to be an extremely low pop server realistically. Ideally they'd make a new world but they're only doing that when your average population is really even amongst all the worlds on one data center. -

I more than likely won't leave. That said, we'll have to watch how SE deals with Balmung and its population. They leave it open that they can and will consider a server split. It won't be in the near future, but it's a possibility. According to FFXI players, it has happened. Technology's changed and all that, but I wouldn't say I'm 100% confident they won't throw that at us. Right now, I just know we'll stay locked for a long time cause we need to lose about 4k based on the numbers I've seen (however flawed and approximated) to maybe get considered as 'just highly congested'. Which, I can pretty damn say everyone would agree would be the worst horrible decision for us.
