Inn room, not a room in the housing wards. Inn rooms are available for free use at any time past a certain level (15, I think?) at each of the Adventurers' Guilds in the three city-states. There's a journal item in there that allows you to review any cutscenes you've been through and view any cutscenes you may have skipped.

New translation of a press event from last week with Heavensward details. Apparently they had press keeping quiet about this until today. http://www.bluegartr.com/threads/125683-Famitsu-Interview-Translation-EU-Heavensward-Press-Event-5-18-5-20

[Moderator Hardhat] Alright, I'm opening this back up. If you've feedback for the topic creator, please keep it constructive. If you've no feedback nor interest, best to just move along. [/Moderator Hardhat]

[Moderator Hardhat] Locking this thread down until I can find the time to sift out all of the uncalled-for nonsense and get this back down to the "Hi, I'm selling a plot, is anyone interested?" thread it was intended as. I'll open it back up then. [/Moderator Hardhat]

Heavensward Ilevel Requirements. Strange Design Choice?
Melkire replied to Xavieraux Reinardes's topic in FFXIV Discussion
Narratively speaking, all three new jobs seem tied to expansion areas. Dark Knights are supposedly an Ishgardian thing, as are machinists who are following Garlond's example. Astrologians practice a Sharlayan art. Theoretically speaking, if they got shoved out to Coerthas, how would this be handled? -
Heavensward Ilevel Requirements. Strange Design Choice?

SWTOR did this and had some considerable success with it for a time. I'd go so far as to say that the class and story quests there were THE reason to play the game, especially given the writing and voice acting that went into it. But then, SWTOR too is a different beast from XIV. -
Heavensward Ilevel Requirements. Strange Design Choice?

I think Prova's point might be that lots of people enjoy the leveling experience. I've certainly heard of many players on Balmung and Gilgamesh leveling alts to 50. I know some people who do so on Greg so that they can gear out multiple jobs faster and thus circumvent tomestone caps. They'd rather do that than, say, grind relic. "Leveling is a low point" does not hold true for everyone, especially those who might be approaching FFXIV for the single player or narrative elements. Admittedly, not being able to level as the class or job you want is a potential setback. -
Heavensward Ilevel Requirements. Strange Design Choice?

Difference being those secondary classes can be done at any time past level 10 which is entirely reasonable. Having to sludge through weeks of MSQ tedium isn't. Not a fair comparison whatsoever. A better comparison, though flawed in myriad ways, would be not being able to glamour your gear until you hit level 50. -
Heavensward Ilevel Requirements. Strange Design Choice?

I'm not going to lie. I never played WoW. A lot of the arguments against Square-Enix's decision on this matter seem to boil down to, "WoW doesn't do it this way." ...so? Maybe it's that I come from a history of single player computer games back in the 90s, instead of a history of MMORPGs, but when I hear "expansion pack," I think, "alright I've done everything there is to do in the game I bought, and now I want more." Expansions were, by and large, something for those who'd already consumed the product to a significant degree. They allowed developers and producers to deliver more of the same content without all the time, energy, and investment that normally goes into the development and production of a full-scale sequel. By that admittedly old-school logic, I don't see any issues with expansion content requiring progressiom through the pre-existing narrative, barring the sole exception of the new jobs. If those are also gated for good reasons - narrative, or technical limitations - then I can understand and accept the situation as-is. -

The developers have already confirmed that the quest givers for the new jobs are in Ishgard. It was mentioned in a live letter or interview somewhere. I don't see them having enough time to relocate and adjust those questlines in the month remaining to them before HW drops. Does that suck for alts? Is it unfriendly as hell for roleplayers? Yes and yes. But wishing it were otherwise isn't going to make it so. -
What have YOU done to spread RP to places not Ul'Dah?
Melkire replied to OttoVann's topic in RP Discussion
Yeah, I've had the above re: GC members happen quite a few times. Depends on the circumstances whether the GC member in question rolls with it or not, and on the member(s) themselves, I feel. Soldiers breaking up a bar fight makes total sense. Arresting folks for civil unrest stretches credulity but is manageable if you give it the right spin, e.g. "I'm going to drag you out of here if I can and hand you off to the Blades". EDIT: I must emphasize OoC communication and OoC mutual consent at all times. -

*waves hand* Technically not law enforcement, here (seriously, Flames are NOT LAW ENFORCEMENT WHY DOES EVERYONE GET THIS CONFUSED), but you'd be surprised by how many of us law and GC folks are present here on RPC, be we Blades, Flames, Adders, Maelstrom, Bow... I think the only groups there are a real shortage of are Yellowjackets and Wood Wailers*. Blades to a lesser extent because of the negative perception surrounding them. "Law enforcement" linkshells for such things are a good idea in theory, but in practice I didn't see them used much, which sucked. Ended up bowing out so I could fit more active IC shells (seriously, Square, eight is a weird, arbitrary, shitty limit). You don't need to go around in /shout or causing scenes in the QS in order to find these folks (I'm not discouraging scenes, btw, a good bar brawl is always fun) but it DOES help to make use of resources available here, I feel, including but not limited to: 1. Browsing the Linkshell Hall. 2. Searching through the RPC Wiki for recent page updates featuring law/GC of your choice. 3. Keeping an eye on the Town Square (IC) forum, particularly the Bulletin Board thread(s). I've found several Brass Blades this way, and learned of quite a few Serpent operatives who would be fun to RP with if there's ever an opportunity. * According to several databases, there's an actual Wood Wailer chestpiece, but it is either no longer attainable or never was attainable. -
Been thinking lately about commissioning a group shot of the Dauntless family. Just need to find the right artist once I've actually got money to spare, read: not the foreseeable future. Don't have any of Osric's direct family, as they're all NPCs meant solely for forum use (barring my reserving the in-game name of his brother). There's this shot that Hutarin drew, though. <3

The Final Days of "Ian Carlson" -- On Balmung
Melkire replied to coldReactive's topic in Town Square (IC)
[Moderator Hardhat] Moving this thread to Town Square (IC), since it's less General RP discussion and more a story with a request for feedback. I'll leave a redirect up for a few days. [/Moderator Hardhat] -
Only because it lets us fit one more weaponskill GCD into Berserk. It adds up and helps push phases but I'm not sure it qualifies as essential, in case anyone's wondering. It's more a perk.

I asked a buddy of mine back when FCoB was released what T13 was like. He told me it was Flare Central and Land of VIT Jewels. I'd say that was spot-on.

I'm really happy that we're not done with the Allag yet and the dev team is allowing us to continue looking into them even as the MSQ focus shifts around. Likewise for the Garleans.

Might want to stick this in the OP. http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/threads/234788-Letter-from-the-Producer-LIVE-Part-XXI-Digest-Thread Goes into detail on Job Actions and such.

It's... so beautiful... *wipes tear*

This coupled with a movement skill. Hoo, boy. Do we know if we're getting additional cross-class skill slots to go with the increased level cap of 60? If it's still five, I'm thinking the following for DRK... Provoke Convalescence Flash Bloodbath Mercy Stroke Not necessarily in that order. Wondering if we're getting any ROG cross-class skills. {Perfect Dodge}, {I want it}.

This is generally why I try to avoid RPing things that I can't represent well in-game, on-screen, with existing abilities. I understand your frustration and feel your pain (where's my BLU, Square? ; ; ) Egi customization might help but I rather doubt it'll get anyone a Levi-looking Egi. Might get close though? All that said... this still looks sweet.

Oh. Well then. Not quite as good but at least we don't have to watch in agony as it drops off. Just anticipate the jump. EDIT: Thanks Nathan!

If PLD and WAR don't get a movement/displacement skill to level the field, then we're going to have some disparity on our hands. ...that said, I freakin' loved my Sith Juggernaut.
