1. Dear Ladies and Gentlemen, What you see there are one-size-fits-all boxers with an expandable waistband. That means it slips right off with little to no effort. This has been a Public Service Announcement. Thank you for your time.
2. You might've given it to her, but isn't it technically still yours? -flees, giggling like a schoolgirl-
3. Some suns, he couldn’t help but wonder where the Spinner had gotten her sense of humor from. On this particular sun, he thought he’d finally figured it out. She’d gotten it from her older brother, of course, same as Corinna had gotten hers from Osric. Althyk be damned. He’d been strolling up Pearl Lane by mere happenstance, headed for the Quicksand, when he’d seen the column of smoke billowing a few blocks over. Any and all thought of refreshment fled at the sight, and no sooner could you have sworn on Nophica’s teats than the sergeant had torn off the main street for the alleyways that would take him closer to the fumes. He had no cause for caution, no reason to take his time; he reached the warehouse in a mere minute or two. The few men left standing out front directed him towards the back, where, upon turning the corner, he lifted his mask and gaped at the plume as it emerged from the loading bay. The scene had devolved into a kind of hellhole; the loading bay doors were open, and from within he could hear the panicked calls of guards sounding out as they searched for the source of fire. A small cluster of their fellows stood just outside, bickering with one another, and the first thought that came to his mind was that the guards were, one and all... that was peculiar. Was he imagining things? Not all of them were in uniform, but even then, he still recognized a few. This lot ain’t listed with the Flames. Unofficial storage facility? The sergeant strolled up to them, eyes still on the chaos inside, and seized the closest man by the collar of his chestplate. “Chief Flame Sergeant. Saw the smoke. What in Azeyma’s name…?” “A-ah, Hewry Reeve, ser, Blades. We… we don’t know, ser! We were just inside and we heard a crash, we did, and there was a fire, but a little one, and so much smoke! It must have spread!” Melkire turned his gaping expression of disbelief on the Blade. “And you’re just standin’ here, ‘stead of fetchin’ buckets and soundin’ the alarm.” He released his grip and shoved the man back by the cuirass. “Get goin’!” Ruttin’ incompetent idiots…. The men scattered and sounded general alarum; Osric stormed further in, pulling his turban from his head and waving it about to clear the air, coughing as he went. He stepped gingerly across the warehouse floor, testing wooden planks with each step. A few guards returned with filled buckets; they threw the contents into the smoke, one at a time. The water hissed, and the smoke started dissipating at breakneck pace, leaving naught behind but a fine, sooty ash on the ground. The sergeant squinted as he peered in further, where he could just barely make out a pair of silhouettes ascending on the far side of the warehouse… No sooner had he spotted them than one of the silhouettes fell and collapsed. A pained cry - “Go!” - prompted him to pick up the pace. He broke into a jog, then slid to a halt over the cobblestones, over the fallen figure. A quick glimpse was enough to identify the duskwight in question; there was no mistaking that face, with that expression, with that hair, with that beard, with that complexion, with that figure. “Gods… damn it, Verad.” The elderly Elezen met his eyes and winced. He wouldn’t unless he had good cause. That single thought struck him like a bolt of lightning. He spun on his heels, his gaze darting back and forth as he scanned the warehouse interior for somewhere, anywhere, to hide the man. There were towers of crates stacked nearby, and a few scattered here and there along the warehouse floor, but for the most part… “Check the crates,” came a hiss. “The crates, please!” Osric glanced back down; the duskwight’s own gaze kept flickering back and forth between the office door situated towards the front of the warehouse, and… a rope. The sergeant blinked, then glanced up to the skylight… and understood. “You first, eh?” He tugged his turban back on, then circled around and bent down, taking hold of and lugging Verad, however painstakingly slowly, closer to the dangling line to freedom. A few moments more found the sergeant tying the rope around the Elezen’s midriff in a sailor’s knot; he tugged down, hard, then met Master Bellveil’s eyes again one last time. “I’ll check the crates. Swear I will.” Verad nodded with some relief. “Please." A sudden jerk along the rope had the man reeling up towards the ceiling. He shot Osric a grateful look… and then he was gone. The midlander smirked, then turned to find the last of the smoke clearing. The guards approached slowly, their expressions puzzled; there was, indeed, a flame, but it stuck to the surface of the warehouse floor, and the few wisps of smoke still emanating from it didn’t account for the massive plume earlier. “Th’hell’s that?” mumbled one man in particular as he poked at it with his sword. Not one to delay, Osric scanned his surroundings again. Crates, crates… this is a gods-damned warehouse, the place is full o’ crates! …there. Several were in his immediate vicinity, but only one was open. He sidled up to it, then squatted down on his haunches to inspect its contents. A moment later, he froze, shoulders locking in place, his whole frame going rigid, as taut as a strained wire. He frowned, then double-tapped at the linkpearl in his left ear. “This is Sergeant Melkire to the Flames, please respond. We have a situation down off Pearl. Warehouse, corner of Topaz and Rubellite.” He glanced up and back towards the guards for just long enough to confirm his earlier suspicions, to confirm that peculiarity. “Seems a Brass Blade establishment… and the crates are filled with milkweed.” He pivoted as he stood, hand falling from his ear, arms crossing as he frowned at the assembled guards, Brass Blades one and all… then he smirked wickedly. Gotcha. Nymeia be blessed.
4. I like how absolutely no one in this thread remembers the names of Chuchuto and Rurukuta, the Lalafells of Ul'dah's pugilist guild. GG, PGLs and MNKs of RPC. GG. My own input: the difference between a Lalafell's strength and a Highlander's is not negligible, but it isn't insurmountable, either, as Chuchuto and Rurukuta perform remarkably well against Midlanders and Highlanders.
5. A quick cross-section of shots. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=3633&pid=114251#pid114251

7. Guessing on new i90 gear from new dungeons. No glowy elements on the armor for it to be 3rd coil, unless SE throws us in for a loop.... First Coil didn't have glowy elements on Allagan. They don't necessarily need to keep the glowy bits from HA.... *shrug*
8. The one on the left has the Allagan cross marks on it. I'm guessing Third Coil gear.
9. It's Xydane. He got burned by Ishgard recently.
10. Dear Square: cough up this glorious tank gear that you've given to the Qarn HM mobs, please. We wants it. We needs it, precious.
11. Perhaps I should have said, "no connotations or connections with anything of a chivalrous nature." European knights were more than just land-holding cavalry troops, which is precisely what the sipahi were.
12. "Sipahi" IRL translates literally as "of the sipa", and Wikipedia is correct in listing its origins as "of the army" but originally "of the horse" ("aspa" is horses plural, Wikipedia; asp is horse singular). Thank you, Persian heritage of mine, for occasionally being useful. So in its most literal translation, Sipahi means soldier. "Knight" is a stretch. Historically, yes, the term is most often synonymous with Ottoman troops, but the word itself has absolutely no connotations or connections with anything of a knightly nature. Cavalryman is closer, given the etymology. Within the setting of FFXIV, it's my understanding that sipahi are actually supported in lore as having been a thing at one point or another. The gear exists, and the turban is commonly used throughout the Brass Blades who work for Lolorito. I'd say you're perfectly fine and free to roleplay as a free-roaming asset of Lolorito's. Sipahi isn't too pretentious a term to use in roleplay, though I'd personally avoid anything knight-related. The historical sipahis were comparable to medieval European knights in status only; the similarities ended there.
13. Yes, it's true. Erik is Super Sentai.
14. I'll be DL'ing and reuploading those as soon as I get home from work today.
15. I've yet to actually watch The Wire to confirm whether this is true, but from what others have told me... Osric is Jimmy McNulty.
16. A Big Thank-You to All Our Attendees! Let's just ignore the minor detail that is your being ordered to attend. Official photos will be on their way soon (I think Franz more or less passed out afterwards). The images will be posted in the Screenshot Thread, and that post will be linked here in this thread. Turnout exceeded expectations, and we had some fun afterwards! For Coin and Country!
17. A wolf in sheep's clothing? The corrupt wearing the pure. The tainted dressed in the untainted. Wolf in sheep's clothing works, too.
18. There's just something about Taeros' preference for white garments that I find highly amusing. Must be the irony.
19. Uh. I uh. Can't help but sign up, no matter how much my friends chide me about having my hands in too many cookie jars and my fingers in too many pies. Osric is an Immortal Flame. Garleans are involved. He's the covert operations coordinator within his unit (read: spymaster). He has an extensive and troubled history with Garleans in Thanalan. He feels that he owes it to his Ala Mhigan associates to look into this. Nazis Garleans. He hates Garleans. Unless they're reformed. <3 ...why do I do this to myself? ><;;
20. Now that I have off my mats-in-mah-dungeons hate train.... I am extremely excited for the iconic-looking Thief-green Rogue gear. I expect that what we're seeing is the class & job specific gear (listed as "ROG NIN" on the items) for the post-50 Hard Mode Dungeons, much in the same fashion as each class & job has its own unique set from Brayflox HM / Halatali HM / Lost City of Amdapor, and then another unique set from Stone Vigil HM / Tam-Tara HM / Hullbreaker Island. The green gear might even be from these new dungeons. I do not expect that green gear to be low-level. My impression is that when Yoshi said, "save your striking and maiming gear," what he really meant to say was save your DoW leveling gear in addition to the shared STR pieces that are Allagan and Gloam. There are no class-specific low level pieces beyond weapons and the Brayflox Longstop Story rings; I doubt that'll change. If Square Enix are pulling a fast one on us and a THF job is a surprise like SCH/SMN was, and that green gear is their AF... I will be bowing in seiza chanting gomenasai faster than a MNK builds GLIII with PB.
21. I forgot to bump this yesterday... I am a terrible event organizer. Also in editing the calendar posting a week ago, I may have inadvertently botched the date and left it showing as 10-9-2014. This is incorrect. The event is today, 10-6-2014. My apologies for any confusion. TONIIIIGHT IS THE NIIIIIIGHT!~ *hides the spaghetti-and-meatballs* A quick review: 1. We will be meeting at The Hall of Flames at roughly 9:00 PM PDT before moving to the front entrance of The Quicksand by the Gate of Nald at approximately 9:15 PM PDT. This gives us the time and freedom to take a headcount and get organized without getting in the way of tavern RP. It also gives us an opportunity to walk down Emerald Lane together in a show of solidarity. 2. Franz Renatus has graciously offered to be our photographer. This means we'll be taking direction from him to make sure everyone's visible. Please, if you are over six fulms tall, be mindful of where you stand. Elezen, Highlanders, Roegadyns, this means you! 3. The first screenshot will be taken in uniform. This means if you have the Flame Soldier's set, the Flame Officer's set, the Vermillion set + Sipahi Turban (for Brass Blades), or the Paladin AF set (for Sultansworn), please have it on you and ready to change via the Armory System's Gear Sets. Free Paladins, you are exempt; wear whatever you'd like. Flames, Blades, and 'sworn, if you do not have your sets, please try your best to mock up a uniform. Stone Torches and so on: we trust you to know your uniform better than we do. Rock on! 3a. We will not be requiring that we break off into groups by organization for the screenshots. As nice as this would be to have, it would be ridiculously unfair to certain branches (read: Brass Blades) whose PC numbers are tragically low. 4. The second screenshot will be taken in casual dress. Please feel free to wear whatever your character wears on a more day-to-day basis in their capacity as a law enforcer. 5. Once the official screenshots have been taken, we will segue into less formal screenshots. "Hey, I want a screenshot with so-and-so!" "Let's get the Flames together!" "Free paladins over here!" etc. 6. If a certain free paladin decides to idle on location in such a way as to make himself the centerpiece of any possible photography, you all have my explicit permission to "have fun with him" during the casual dress screenshot.
22. Divine Light was 2.3, 2.2 was Shikaree's. I should know, as the only piece of Fistfighters I have after several months are the boots. Mats mats mats. I'll look up the exact quote when I reach the office. Still trying for Divine War cuirass and Divine Hero boots. One day...!
23. back in July ish they mentioned looking into fixing the rates. I haven't really had the same complete issue. At least you're not Oscare. IIRC, their phrasing went somethong along the lines of "we haven't heard about this, and we really don't see it as an issue, but since you asked we'll look into it." It was disheartening at the time. :\ ...and what's this about Oscare? I must know.
24. I'm not as excited as I should be for these new dungeons. All I want to know is if we should still expect ridiculous mat drop rates as a barrier to acquiring what is purely vanity gear. I've grown as sick of this issue being passed over by Square as I have with atma drop rates. Honestly. Ask anyone who runs Expert Roulette with me. Nothing but mat runs, 99% of the time. I once went two weeks of Roulette without seeing so much as an accessory. So if they're planning on stuffing myth mats into these... *shudders*
25. Isn't Tri-Disaster the one with the bind effect on it? That's potentially useful. Does it work on T5 dreadknights and the like?
