  1. This is addressed by designing and finalizing the character archetype you want to play before you even begin RPing. Just because the game has been designed to have a literal buffet of things you can hit a button and change into at character select doesn't mean its even remotely within the realm of possibility for your character to have all of them. In fact, some jobs are just not accessible to PC's at all or if they are it's in a limited form. Something I end up seeing a lot of folk doing, and I have been guilty of myself in the past, is stacking the deck as they PvE through whatever game they are playing. Things like this: "Huh. When I knew her she wasn't an master alchemist, cook, OR Monk for that matter.." Firstly, let's address the fact that becoming a Master of anything in this game, in my mind, is a lifetime achievement. I don't believe a character will pick-up a sword, bow, alembic etc at 13 years of age and have mastery of the craft by 20 and move on to master another art. It's difficult and limiting to retain this painfully normal set of limits but I feel it's necessary to have a well-rounded and believable character. This being said, it's been stated lore-wise that certain crafts are just more difficult than others to pick up the basics of. It's feesable to be a layman in Arcanima and recognize symbols and whatnot but be unable to cast all but the simplest poison spell BUT at the same time be able to weave conjury decently. Where I tend to have issues is when people say they are multiple jobs ICly all at the ripe age of 21. Just no. You're not. I really wonder when all these things happened in the characters time frame. They had time to master all these jobs, have a child, master a profession, and still be a Second Lt. in the Order of the Twin Adder. ??? Does time just not pass at the same rate for these folk? What is really going to sting is when new classes come out. I, myself, will need to gut my character for rogue because that is how the character was originally envisioned and archery was taken as substitute. She will be no where near as skilled with a bow as she is now.
  2. Anon Y'mous would be the best information broker ever. o_o
  3. I can't remember if it was a live letter or something from E3 but I remember very specifically it being stated that the races of Eorzea were all the same species. They are different races. Like Asians, Blacks, Whites, etc. This being the case, it would be completely feesable for there to be inter-mixed children. HOWEVER (you knew it was coming) In my humble opinion, something as extreme as an Elezen/Lala hybrid needs some in game chops behind it first before I would roleplay it as a PC. We don't even know what it would look like. Hyur/Elezen, Hyur/Miqo, all seem fairly easy to pass visually but anything more extreme is a little immersion breaking for me simply because there is no visual or lore precedent for it. I would advise against until Squeenix gives us a little more to work with. *Raises flame retardant shielding*
  4. Her wishes would be to help the person she cares about most so there would be no point to accepting the wishes since they would hurt that person in the end.
  5. It's a bit of a slippery slope since a lot of role-players who go down that route don't usually limit their character to being a couple of inches above the average height and instead embrace all sorts of strange and outright jarring proportions. I find it very hard to take seriously when it's done to the extreme as it simply screams 'mary sue' and doesn't really add much beyond placing someone's special little snowflake on a pedestal that only serves to encourage a rather questionable arm's race. I'm normally pretty staunch but this is something that doesn't bother me that much. I know people that are 6'4+ in real life and while I think "Damn, that guy is tall" it doesn't really strike me as out of the ordinary. Granted, it's not common but I also don't see edits like that on a lot of character's either. o_o I kinda wish there was more character generation options anyway for body type so you could be leaner, stronger, weaker, fatter more manly/womanly figure etc.
  6. Yoshi has stated they are all the same species so aside from cosmetic differences and maybe a little better sight on on one race and smell on another they are all pretty much the same and will all reproduce in the same ways. InB4 people don't know the difference between species and race.
  7. I broke my reply and I'm too lazy to fix and it's not cached. TL;DR: Ppl taking 1 word form paragraphs and running with it and arguing semantics.
  8. There is absolutely nothing unreasonable about being a Warrior of Light. It is canon that there are many Warriors of Light and the developers explicitly intended for all player characters to be THE Warriors of Light to begin with. The player characters are a small percentage of the overall population, numbering in the thousands where ordinary citizens number in the millions (or tens of millions). They even drive this point home with the first cutscene where you meet Hydaelyn and you see a whole bunch of other souls flying around with you, which represents other player characters going through the exact same thing. You never actually lead the Scions, you're just the done-getter go-doer who happens to be really good at their job. That being said, yes, this one is a lot harder to justify in RP since the story doesn't really imply that you are a whole group of people (which it really should, to jive better with the whole MMORPG thing) instead of just one guy or gal. When it comes down to it, the problem is really in that the proportion of NPCs you actually meet and interact with will be far, far lower than the number of PCs you meet and interact with simply by nature of this being an MMORPG. If NPCs were actually sentient and did their own thing and outnumbered PCs 10:1 it would seem a lot less outlandish that so many PCs are "special snowflakes" in some way. The Warriors of Light reference was referring to the 5 main npc's that K'ailia posted a video of her post. She talked about how one of them was a white mage/black mage and how this makes it canon which is very debatable imo. I thought it was obvious I was expanding upon her reference. Also, yes, I'm aware of Minfilia's existence.
  9. I think it's important to keep in mind as well that your PC will likely never be a "Warrior of Light" or the "Leader of the Scions" or the the sole kicker of Garlean butt God-Character in the questlines. I play in such a way that anything huge like that is off limits and I do not roleplay with people that do. I see people sometimes who give their characters huge nonsensical powers that either: 1.) Do not corroborate with the established and current lore. 2.) Have no place in the FF14 universe. 3.) Places them massively "above" anyone else who isn't wielding similar X-Men powers, yielding only to NPC's like Louisoix. Literally X-Men powers like mind reading or looking at someone and "feeling" what they feel or knowing what kind of class or aether manipulation they use. I'm not going to list anything out here but I know several people that play this way and sometimes I look in the other direction but other times it just becomes impossible to not feel like some people just create something ridiculous because they know it's "better" than everyone else. Perhaps maybe some vicarious sense of being awesome..? I'm not sure really. I like to just stick with what is widely accepted as established canon with a sprinkling of normalcy. You can play an effective character and be a Gladiator. You can play a healer and just be a Conjuror. You can play a Thaumaturge vainfully trying to unlock the secrets of Black Magic (that sounds kinda cool actually..) You don't need an Echo power, or a job, or a massive rank in the military while also being a master chef, alchemist, and accomplished Summoner all at the ripe age of 17 while winning beauty pageants. :frustrated::frustrated::frustrated: Back to what OP was saying, the above is what people get antsy about when it comes to jobs. Read your lore, don't act like that ^^^^^^ and you're right as rain.
  10. Except the Stone only resonates for the Azure Dragoon, not bog standard dragoons. They are also tied into the lore of /every/ job, so to exclude them, is to exclude part of the lore of that job. I dont think many care about stone cannon and neither do I. I think it all comes down to how people want to determine the cannon and lore, and I personally dont think that the stones are very cannon or helpful to the characters that role the said job. I think im done with this thread. I think its blown out of proportion and is turning into something that I want nothing to be part of. In my humble opinion, the soul crystal lore differs with each job. It's heavily implied in the questlines for each job that there are few to none for some jobs (WHM) and many more for others. (SMN) Others, like Scholar, are a bit left open to interpretation. Could you possibly wander around in Wander's Palace for a while and find a Scholar soul crystal? Possibly. Would you posses the skills to stay alive against the Tonberries and also possess the mathematical knowledge to actually "use" the crystal properly? Ehhhhh.....
  11. What I would do is talk to a lot of people and comb the lore and make sure your PC's story is adaptable to what Square has laid out. There are a lot of people on the forums here who are very knowledgeable about the lore and I know would be willing to lend a hand if asked. From what I've gathered, a PC being a "job" is a pretty rare and noticeable sight. A lot of people's PC's might even treat yours as insane right off the bat if you claim to be one. As a result, even if you've gone to lengths to make sure you are lore-compliant (which I DO think is possible with specific jobs) I see it as a fact that the character would likely play close to their chest. It would be something that could garner extra unwanted and negative attention and most people typically don't want that kind of thing around them all the time. However, I do see it as an opportunity for some really awesome character development between your character and those that desire to put in the time to get to know her on a personal level.
  12. Bard is a bit of an interesting job because the main dividing line between it and normal archers is the songs. It's debatable if the bards of today will ever be the same as the bards of yore etc. Also, if I remember correctly, you PC would have to have a certain relationship with the moogles of the shroud who can be very very picky. They would need a reason to like your PC besides "they wanna be a bard." Bard is one of the more lax ones I think. It's more strict with other jobs. From my understanding, certain jobs in game are just plain unaccessable to a PC (WHM/BLM) and others your PC would have to craft a whole story around to attain and it would likely take many many years to to accomplish assuming they don't die/get tempered in the process. (SMN/MNK) As always, if anyone can shed more light on this I'm all ears. I really enjoy the lore behind the jobs and how they affect PC lore.
  13. C'Kayah is Lupin III. The funny version.
  14. Zac is Russell Casse from the movie Independence Day. Everyone thinks he's insane from the way he runs around and rants about things and in the end he turns out to be the hero everyone needed and didn't deserve.
  15. I dunno. I definitely get more of this for Nat: OHMYGODWHYWOULDYOU..... ...... F*ck. She's secretly a genius.
  16. This makes me sad but Kage totally makes me think of Toboe from Wolf's Rain. ;_; SPOILERS: 647r1kCw384
  17. I have a soft spot for freeform but I really only do it with people I know and trust. Otherwise rolling is the way to go. One of my pet peeves with free form is people taking like 5 actions in a turn. Like drawing a weapon, stabbing someone in the neck, dodging an attack, rolling away all in what would have reasonably been like maybe 2 seconds. Also, for some reason, a lot of people tend to forget basic rp etiquette with freeform. The whole "I should give this person a chance to reply" kinda goes out the window and people tunnel on "winning" (I guess?) and get cheesy with 1 hit KO's. On the same token, some people are constantly "evading" like a ballerina. If you've ever played any table top games you know you can only take so many actions in a turn. Think about it that way. I can do 1 complex action then maybe scratch my butt or something. (Not really, but ya get it.) In short, I think freeform opens the door for a lot of awesome things (environmental damage yo) but it also requires some general understanding of weaponry. I.E. "I probably can't parry an axe with this shortsword." Or "Since I'm using fist weapons that means I have to be REALLY careful trying to get close to that Lancer." Also, I straight up walked away from a guy who said he was a black mage once in a combat situation. He literally tried to summon some unidentified mist and lock my character in a box with it, wut?

  19. ....Admittedly, it took me a long long time to learn this one and I finally got it when I was witnessing someone hounding an FC-mate of mine. I'm pretty staunch on keeping the IC in the IC and handling it there and keeping it there. Eventually, I had to realize that certain people are just not in character when they are pursuing certain "activities" and storylines. Since they really aren't roleplaying and are pushing their "character" with OOC desires then basically anything your character does anyway is pointless because there is no one on the other side to be influenced or affected by your characters actions. The only thing you can really do is a hard OOC "No." Which is kind of uncomfortable all around.
  20. ....Off topic but I am totally down for some 4th ed on skype or something lol.
  21. I was almost a cast member on the TV show Ghost Hunters.
