1. Well, the word 'condition' appears several times. Perhaps rephrase or reword to avoid repetition. It's very apparent that he's resilient and physically tenacious. Other than that, I don't know much about the lore of the Au Ra, but I wish I did as they are intriguing to say the least.
2. I transferred from Ultros a bit less than a week ago and it was easily worth the money based on my short time here. PF is about four times as active during peak time, way deeper market, and RP FC tickers everywhere. If you already have a Gilgamesh character, you may want to explore there and see how involved you can get in RP. If that doesn't pan out, you can always transfer your Jenova main to Balmung. At least, that's probably how I'd go about it.
3. Huh. I had thrown up the tag while in Limsa the other day when I actually needed a meld (recent emigrant faux pas, I suppose) and had a handful of people walk up and stare at me for a few moments before walking off. Perhaps this was the reason. I will keep it in mind for future use.
4. Well the FC house items include violas family (cello), harp, harpsichord, and brass horn, though there may be others. We have the lyre-like instrument of the Artemis Bow, and I would like to believe there are wind instruments as well, since I tried to write them into Ancel's background. We also hear certain thematic elements such as choirs and cathedral organs in Coerthas, so I imagine hymns play a pretty large role in the Holy See. Horns, concertinas, and possibly reed instruments seem more prominent in Limsa Lominsa than elsewhere, Costa del Sol features strummed strings and perhaps something akin to an ocarina. To me it would be acceptable to consider these types of instruments as lore-friendly. I'm far from a lore expert though.
5. I prefer for roleplay to occur organically, over-world. To that point, I generally do not put in for events or story arcs as such. While I realize that this means I will generally be a tangent to the greater community, the character development just doesn't feel right otherwise. Related to the prior point: I have a very difficult time initiating roleplay, and prefer to be approached when someone else wants to interact. I think it might be a sense that I am being pushy, when I should probably just ask OOC. But then, I've broken character. I get a little perturbed when the racial make-up of the world at large doesn't match the lore. Nothing to be done about that, though.
6. I'm not the most well-versed when it comes to Ishgardian skullduggery, but this seems like a solid work up to me. His personality seems to suit his history, and vice versa. If a small nitpick would help, I think the contents frame follows a different order from the actual article. Not even sure a fix is necessary, really.
7. This might work. http://youtu.be/Btu8AsOA4Es
8. True. Looking now at overlay maps of Vylbrand, it seems that even all the combined playable regions account for far less than half of the landmass. If there aren't serious hang-ups about worldbuilding in these areas, I wouldn't necessarily mind having to retcon later.
9. Have been a bit unlucky trying to reach the shell in-game, guess I will follow suit and ask for a waitlist spot, should such a thing be available.
10. This is something I havent really addressed since coming back to the game. I'm still well behind the 3.0 scenario. I believe Ancel, as an itinerant and inquisitive person, would not have any immediate negative reactions. Indeed, he has been quite impressed with the Domans, and if the Au Ra, who have already lost their home in Othard, are willing to come to Eorzea and help us fight both the Garleans and the Primals, well... that says something about their character, in Ancel's opinion. So, given what little I know, I think Ancel will have a guarded but positive reaction, and will observe them quite closely as their nature is revealed to him.
11. No solid numbers here, but I would imagine functional infrastructure would be critical to rebuilding. Trade would suffer serious setbacks with major routes out of commission, especially disconcerting for the Ul'dahn cartels. They probably had ready bodies immediately, but materials may have taken longer to secure and transport (unless they simply conjured all the hewn stone). My guess is planning would have occurred within a month after, construction probably around three months after, completion with magicks and round-the-clock crews nine to twelve months after. Someone probably has a better idea/source though.
12. Excellent points, all. It seems these places may as yet be insignificant, not in their size, but in how they pertain to the Warriors of Light at the present time. I will take up my travels in game and see what I can make of these lands for future writing. Thank you.
13. Updated: 25 October 2015 Basic Info Profile: Affiliation: Linkshells: Primary RP Linkshell: RP Style Amount of RP: Semi-frequent, moderate intensity. I can go all night without, or can enjoy adventuring RP followed by a fireside chat to decompress, for example, though I prefer to keep things from becoming too carefree. If it happens, it happens. Walk-up or overworld contact preferred. Views on RP Combat and Injuries: Freeform RP combat is okay, though I believe PvP would be better. The game is limited in that regard. Injuries should take time to heal without strong magicks, but for adventurers, even complete incapacitation is not incurable under the right circumstances. Views on IC Romance: It's a part of the world, albeit one I'm not keen to play. Perhaps better left for fiction, in my case. Views on Non-Romantic RP: Family dynamics can be interesting, though they can certainly throw a wrench into the works of an adventurer. I might not explore this too deeply in RP, but would like to expand it through fiction. Companion RP, in travel, in party; this is where I'd look to develop character with the help of others. Views on Lore: Speaking for myself, observance of the lore and prime fiction is crucial. I want my character to be fully immersed in the setting. I would not reject someone else taking light liberties, as I myself am no scholar on the subject. The more I can integrate the setting and dynamics of Hydaelyn into character development, the better. Views on Chat Functions: These are a great tool to augment simple text, and there are plenty to choose from to help set the scene. I would try not to overdo it, but would employ them regularly. 'Remote chat' via shells is perfectly acceptable, though I myself prefer in-person interactions. Other Info Region: North America Timezone: Pacific Contact Info: Discord server invites / contact details upon request.
14. Thanks, these insights are appreciated. I'm thinking of things that are very low-key: a Hyur hamlet that has a local folktale about a nearby river spirit; a rumor that a beloved barkeep is actually be a retired pirate, perhaps hiding a stash of stolen Maelstrom loot somewhere nearby; a spooky encounter along a lonely trail in the moors. Those sorts of things.
15. Question with regard to the less-traversed paths of Eorzea. I'm writing this character as a wayfaring and somewhat listless persona, and I am curious about what places he may have seen in his travels. Specifically I'm wondering if the map of Eorzea is meant to be fully contiguous, or if itinerants, caravans, perhaps even small settlements could be found in the 'spaces between' the regional maps. If he tells a tale of such a place, would it be considered purely whimsy, or perhaps credible to the typical Eorzean listener?
16. I would like to request a waitlist spot, if possible. Thank you.
17. Thanks for the (second) welcome. Jerciex, should I happen to see you in game I will be sure to wave. Cheers.
18. It's taken a long time away from the game, but I have made it to Balmung via World Transfer. This will be my only non-Legacy character. I'll be picking up from around 2.2 or 2.3 content-wise, and will be looking for assistance in starting a small Free Company for the Maelstrom. In the meantime, I will take up work on a feasible Midlander background and will see if I can get an invite to a linkshell or two. Look forward to seeing you folks around Eorzea.
19. Nothing to see here.
20. Was not able to get any reliable RP going on Ultros, but was able to finally squeeze into Balmung late tonight. Now faced with the prospect of putting together a new background for a Highlander, and trying to get involved in some storytelling over the next couple weeks as school breaks. Character name is in profile. I'll be starting from scratch. Wish me luck!
21. Thank ye kindly, sir. If I decide to make the jump I will follow your advice. Cheers.
22. Greetings, Eorzea. Former 1.XX player here, new to RP in FFXIV ARR. Back then I played a Duskwight Elezen, Eusis Aurenais, on Excalibur. These days I'm most active on Ultros, and unfortunately I don't have any characters on Balmung or Gilgamesh (seems that creation there is still blocked). If you'd care to read on, I'll use the template recommended above. MMORPG Background: I started with Ultima Online in 1998, playing on Great Lakes as Blix. It was a nice, structured departure from the freeform roleplay of AOL's Red Dragon Inn. I played that until Phantasy Star Online was released, and after a few thousand hours I still pick up the game from time to time. I got into RvR in RF Online around 2006, but after a year of the politics of the Race Leaders on my server, I decided to put that one away. In 2009 I picked up EVE Online, and am still more or less actively playing a few hours a week, mostly RP. RP experience: I have been roleplaying with varying degrees of success since AD&D 2nd Edition, around 1989. Tabletop was my foundation, but in the mid-late 90s, chat became a new format, leading to IRC and forum-based RP, particularly in settings like Cyberpunk and World of Darkness. The more you play, the more complexity you want out of your experience, so developing a character becomes less about numbers and more about personality, conflict, motivation, etc. So those are the aspect I like to explore. Writing helps in that regard. Character ideas/info: This time in FFXIV I will be working on developing the members of the Grandelion family, with husband and wife as playable characters, though there will be other relatives of the immediate family in the background. Ancel is my main, raised by his mother alone in Limsa after his father was lost at sea, likely to pirates. Humble beginnings and a difficult childhood instilled him with a deep sense of justice, which he carries to this day. At heart he is gentle and thoughtful, but his temper has gotten him into trouble on numerous occasions. His oft-troubled mind is set at ease when he communes with nature, and it was this that caused him to call Gridania his second home. He was struck by the vulnerability of its people, and resolved to become one of its protectors. It was during an evening stroll outside the Canopy that he met Emeraldas Chambelain, with whom he became instantly enamored. ...don't want to over-do it so I'll quit here. How did you learn about the coalition? I was pointed to it by a Reddit FAQ What kind of a role-player are you aiming to be? Light, medium, or heavy? Looking to span the spectrum, depending on who I can find to RP with. Preferrably medium-heavy. Anything from real life you're comfortable with sharing? (Work, school, hobbies, etc) I'm a full-time student with a full-time job, so my playtime is limited to after schoolwork, usually late night Pacific time. If you have questions, ask away.
