  1. "Ahhh..." she remarked at the introduction. The ship had levelled out by then, so she released her grip on the support bar. She reached out to take Melodia's hand but did not shake it. She simply clasped it in hers and curtseyed in a polite manner. "A pleasure to meet you, Sergeant D'janz." Would that they had been in the city still, and that the Yellow Jacket had been in uniform, Coatleque would have gladly taken her aside to try and grill for information on a certain Pirate she was tracking. As it were now, neither of them looked very official. Or at least one of them did not, in her mind. Discretion, she decided, would be better called for in this case. If Melodia was telling the truth, she could contact her when timing was more appropriate. "My name is Elleanore. Elleanore Hawke. I was here in service to the Syndicate of Ul'dah, to meet with one of your esteemed representatives of the Armourer's guild." She waved her hand dismissively. "I shan't bore you with the details of those proceedings however. It was a typically droll meeting with a predictable outcome. I do so desire to be home soon. This is your first trip to our shining Jewel then?"
  2. I think she just meant unrestricted glamours. We should be able, and I agree, to glamor WHM gear on top of PLD plate for example. It doesn't change the stats of the gear, just the model overlay. And if SE claims that it DOES change the stats, then they have horrible coders for making it that way. Stat code and Image code should be separate modules with no bearing on each other.
  3. You're not the only person. But this has been noted with every patch. The trend is, and always has been with MMOs, end-content first, role-play functions last. Take what you can get with each patch, and hope that bigger changes may be made with the next expansion.
  4. So accustomed to the airship by now, Coatleque did not so much as sway or acknowledge the ship lifting off. The Knight managed to hold her attention and smile as the heavy lower-Limsan accent assaulted her ears. She had been momentarily fooled by the woman's state of dress, but by her mode of speech this was certainly no dignitary. Her admission of homeland further served to pique the Sworn's curiosity. "Your superior? I take it you serve the Admiral in some capacity then?" She chuckled in a light, teasing manner as she continued, "If you mean to spy on our methods of law-enforcement, you have made an utterly terrible start of it by confessing such to me."
  5. Coatleque stood on the starboard side of the ship by the railing, the breeze whipping her dress about her legs. Her right arm was raised slightly with her hand grasping a support bar. She looked out over the water below the landing and gave a sigh of relief to be returning home. She abruptly became aware of someone standing near her and she turned to regard the woman with some small amount of surprise. These trips tended to be fairly quiet as the airships were restricted to those on official business since the Calamity. "Oh, hello", she said with a smile. "I had not thought anyone else was departing today. I had not seen you in the Bulwark. Are you returning home as well?"
  6. Coatleque stepped into the Captain's office quietly and closed the door behind her. She was sure to step lightly the entire time, as if everything here was made of delicate porcelain. Turning to face him, she stepped to the side at attention per her usual style. There was obvious tension in the air, and perhaps some fear as well. "You summoned me, Ser?" Jenlyns looked...displeased. His light blonde brows were drawn deeply downward, as the edge of his lips. His eyes however looked wearied. His hands folded in front of him on the desk, and the pile of parchments on both sides of him seemed taller than ever. "Ser Crofte." "I need your account of events that led to Ser Mcbeef's death. And I need to know everything. What may not even be put into writing." His tone was cold but even. She swallowed hard unsure of where to begin. Her report had been as detailed as she could bear to make it. With every attempt made not to stammer before him, she began to recount that night from the beginning. Jenlyns waved his hand once with a shake of his head. "I have read your report. All of it. What I want are your impressions, Crofte. Because what the entire affair amounted to... could lead La Noscea into war with us. Or at least demand arrests, retributions and executions for the attack on their sovereignty. Without due cause." His eyes bore into the woman, his jaw was set. Her eye darted around the room in thought as the night replayed in her mind once more. "I can see no other recourse, Ser. I have tried to, but... I cannot deny what Natalie has done. I only assisted her because I had thought I could prevent just that." "But you didn't." "No... I did not. And now my shield sister lies dead because of it." "An explosive was set, and property on a foreign soil was destroyed. By the members of THIS Order." He exhaled sharply, closing his eyes. The displeasure on his face was obvious. "Her death was tragic and needless, Crofte. But the cause of it...she left a potential political disaster on our hands." She noded slowly in agreement. "Aye, Ser. I had tried to tell her from the start to leave this to the politicians." "I have yet to hear from Maelstorm accusing us. Whatever Maelstorm you ran into have not reported or identified the lot yet." She sighed, perhaps in a little relief. His eyes narrowed as if to extinguish whatever relief he saw surface on her visage. "It is only a matter of time, Crofte. Questions are already being raised about Mcbeef's death. Your report has not made the rounds yet, but when Swift and the Immortal Flames get a hold of it..." It certainly worked as her brows turned upwards once more. "Aye Ser..." He shook his head. "You tell me how this should end, Crofte." Coatleque looked momentarily taken aback at the command. It certainly was not expected. "I... I do not understand. I thought... was I not summoned to answer for this?" "You are." The captain's voice remained calm. "But I have seen you grow in your role, Crofte. I have come to see you take initiative. Your intent on trying to stop Mcbeef from committing this fiasco...was a right one. But you failed to execute. So I am asking you now. What do you think your fate is now. It is not your decision. But you are still an officer in this Order. I want to hear your thoughts before I make my decision. Do you see any other way of righting this wrong?" Her eyes fluttered as she glanced around the room, still unsure of herself. "I... I was complicit... I had thought to do what was honourable and turn myself over... but... I still do not see this as a matter for her Grace's guard... the Flames should be involved. I do have the letter Natalie retrieved from the warehouse before... before..." Her brows furrow in thought again. "The way I see it, if this does come back to us, we need to have justification, even a hint of it, to answer to Maelstrom's accusations." "I could not imagine how to address the Maelstrom. Perhaps Master Taeros would know how to smooth things over. You mean to prove the Pirate was also a threat to La Noscea?" The crease upon his browns visibly deepened at the Monetarists' name. "Taeros. I knew of Mcbeef's involvement with his agenda. But I had thought it an investigation on her free time and nothing more." His voice lowered. "But he is a civilian. A noble. He has no authority in this matter. When it comes down to it, the responsibility of our actions falls upon the Order." "Of course, Ser." "If I then have to seek his aid in rectifying the damage done to our Order..." he closed his hands into a fist. "I will do what must be done." He shot her a hard look. "Do not mistake that for me agreeing with the man's agenda." "Never, Ser. I have worked with him as required myself, but he has not bought me yet." After a pause, Jenlyn's expression cooled back to semblance of neutrality. "But aye. Should this come back to us, I need some proof that supports Mcbeef's claim to even look into that warehouse. This pirate. If we can prove that he is a valid threat to us, then we may be able to justify this raid. If an immediate threat to La Noscea as well, they MAY not seek your head on a pike." She closed her eyes and swallowed again at that thought. "So my question to you is. IS this Pirate a threat?" "I aim to find out, Ser. And I will start where Ser Mcbeef left off. Rest assured I do not work with bombs." "Speaking of bombs." Jenlyns looked more displeased, as if that was possible. "Mergrey. Foolish." "Agreed, Ser." "Some of this blame will fall back on the Red Wings." "Captain Mynheir is already aware." "I had not called Melkire on it when he brought me Mcbeef's...relations to visit her body. But..." He flicked her a glance. "If they want to clear their name, I suggest you work with Melkire on this as well. If they can also prove that this Pirate is a danger to both sovereignties, then all the better for both our organizations." "Aye Ser. As chance would have it, I had already intended to. I am scheduled to have drinks with the Sergeant, assuming I had survived this meeting." "If they were already asking for your head, I would have no choice." "Understood, Ser." "As the Spinner would have it, they have not yet identified you." The Knight looked up and makes some vague hand gesture in reverence to Nymeia at his words. "I know Mcbeef's involvement with Taeros led her on this foolish quest. Although I would be a fool to to think that he was pulling her strings like a puppet. And as suspect as he may be in these matters, I have yet to have any proof that he intends the Sultanate any ill will. Despite Melkire's thoughts on the matter." "Aye, Ser. I am in agreement." "If Taeros is proven treacherous, then it will sully us as well, for Mcbeef allied with him. But I will not condone treachery. That will be a burden we will bear if that is the truth of things. But if Taeros and Mcbeef were right about this pirate, then proving him as a threat, will bode will for the Order, Sultanate, and this political fiasco Mcbeef has left behind. Understood?" "Aye, Ser." Jenlyns let out a long exhale, leaning back. "Think of this as a temporary reprieve, Crofte. You are running out of time. This will...come out, I fear." "It seems my investigations are always on a tight schedule." "That is our lot in life, Crofte. The scales always must be balanced, and things weigh them daily." She nodded once more in agreement, looking towards the floor. "Am I dismissed, Ser?" "I do not wish to hand you over as the scapegoat, Crofte. Not if there is valid case. So your fate is in your hands." He exhaled. "Dismissed." She saluted him as best she could under the circumstances before turning and letting herself out just as quietly as she came.
  7. I factor the in-game weather into RP only if it makes sense for the scene. Weather and time change so fast in-game it can switch at the worst times. For time references, I tend to generalize based on whatever time zone I'm playing from.
  8. Windows Blue Screen of Death (Crash-dump) Most people see this screen and think their computer is dead. Others see it as a major annoyance or take it as proof that Windows is the worst operating system out there. In truth, this is a bug-check screen that developers need to correct major flaws in their software. The BSoD only occurs if there is a major hardware failure, or if a poorly written piece of software (usually drivers) tells the computer to do something it can't physically do (access RAM that doesn't exist, or poll the CPU on a locked interrupt request line, for example). What can you do with this? Not much, unfortunately, as it requires special programs to parse. Luckily someone has made a website to do that for you. Instant Online Crash Analysis Here you can upload a Windows minidump file to be analyzed instantly online, and view the results. The file you are looking to upload will be located in C:\Windows\Minidump and will end with .dmp The pertinent information is located under the Primary Analysis section. You are looking for this section here (as an example): The name bolded in the example is the piece of software that caused this bluescreen. From there you can search online to find out what this is, and then either uninstall it, update it, or whatever you need to do to resolve the issue. Hope this helps.
  9. I know a certain other crime-lord Tia who may take interest in you then.
  10. You also need to distinguish race from nationality. There are two types of Garleans. Roen is a natural born Ala'Mhigan, adopted by Garleans if I'm not mistaken. Coatleque is a full-blooded highlander, but was "nationally" Garlean simply because she was born just after the territory changed hands. Franz, on the other hand, is a full-blooded Garlean with the 3rd eye and everything.
  11. Every piece of fiction written has its base somehow in the reality around us. As much as we may want to say "anything can happen" in a story, we can never truly 'feel' what it is like to NOT be a human on earth. You can say "xyz happened" in a story, but without chapters of exposition before hand, it cannot be believable within our minds perceived reality.
  12. After providing tech support in a Linkshell last night, I figured I'd just make a thread in case anyone else is having issues. For any given computer problem there can be any number of causes. There are at least a few "general practice" things you can do to keep up on your PC's health (much like checking fluid levels in a car) Windows System File Checker tool This command has been built into Windows since XP-SP3. It can be run from the command prompt (preferably elevated). This will scan all critical Windows system components and compare the file signatures to those within the WinSxS (formerly i386) folder. If any of them are damaged, it will copy snapshots of the original file back to the system folder. If files cannot be repaired, it will create a log file showing all such files. 1.) Open a command prompt - Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> Command Prompt OR - Start -> {start typing the name 'command prompt', and it should appear in a list. Click or hit enter} OR - Start -> Run -> {type 'cmd', hit enter} OR - Key Combo Win+R -> {type 'cmd', hit enter } OR (Windows 8 and newer) - Right-Click the start button area, chose 'Command Prompt (Admin)' 2.) Type the command: sfc /scannow 3.) Enter The tool will take time to perform the scan. You can do other things while this happens. When finished, if all is well it should say no errors were found. If it was able to repair a problem, it should say files were repaired. If it could NOT fix the problem, it will say that some files could not be repaired. If it did find corruption, then you most likely found whatever cause of Windows instability has been plaguing you recently. Corrupted system files can cause all sorts of bad behaviour from crashes, to blue screens, to things just locking up. You can either attempt a system restore (followed by another SFC scan to be sure), take it to a professional, or try a manual repair (instructions below). How to find those files: You will need to parse the CBS log file. This is for advanced users only. 1.) Open a command prompt in the folder C:\Windows\Logs\CBS - Browse to that folder in Explorer. Hold down shift, and right-click in empty space. Chose "Open Command Window Here" from the list. OR - From the command prompt, type 'cd C:\windows\lots\cbs' and hit Enter. 2.) Type the following command: findstr /c:"[sR]" %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log >sfcdetails.txt 3.) Enter This will parce the CBS.log file and put the results into a text file named sfcdetails.txt, inside that folder. You can open this with notepad, wordpad, word, etc. What you are looking for are lines that say something to the effect of "Cannot repair member file XYZ". This is the file you need to manually copy. Either find said file on a working computer, or try to download it off the web from a trusted source. You can copy it to the correct location and overwrite the old one. Reboot when finished and run SFC again to be sure everything is fixed.
  13. Good morning. It's grey skies and rain here today. Another wonderful day for tech support. Breakfast is room-temp yogurt that sat on my desk the past half-hour.
  14. I look forward to glaring disapprovingly at you while deflecting raunchy cat-calls and drunken marriage proposals.
  15. Edda Eglantine joins the party. (Edda Eglantine) Thank you. What role? (Coatleque Crofte) Ta daaaaa (Coatleque Crofte) That's for you and Yangh to fight it out. (Coatleque Crofte) I brought oil and a blow-up pool. (Yangh Linh) i can go any (Edda Eglantine) I'll dps then (Coatleque Crofte) *sighs and deflates pool*
  16. Didn't Half-Life 2 have that for the revolver? I like the Half-Life 1 style better where he just crams a handful of bullets into the chamber and miraculously six of them line up correctly
  17. Kill shot... HE'S GOING FOR A KILL SHOT! *scramble*
  18. Also, keep in mind the Garlean's use gun-blades. Emphasis on blades. Even if it is a more advanced gun at the hilt, it probably has 1-6 shots max, is not easy to reload on the fly, and infers that the main method of fighting is still hand-to-hand. At the battle of Carteneau in the End of an Era video, you see the majority of the Garlean forces charging in with a mixture of sword and shield, axe, and spear. At the 1:58 mark, you see a few of them firing the gun-blade one shot at a time, three rounds before the video cuts away. This is where I get my 1-6 shot number from.
  19. Another awesome event as always, Gus. Sorry I did not have a chance to come over and say hello. You were so busy with contests the whole time. I was trussed up like a pumpkin just for you (orange/brown/green dress)
  20. So that's why my whispers are going unanswered! j/k I've not had to blacklist anyone yet. If they were harassing me, I would. If they're just being a jerk, I tend to tune them out with selective reading.
  21. When the Queen of Passive Aggression calls me passively aggressive, it's time to lock this thread.
  22. I just wanted to throw it out there before someone jumps the gun, that's all. Being angry IC is one thing, of course, and justified. Trying to force the other person in question into a specific situation when they had no idea this happened is another. {edit} I.E. seeking vengeance without asking them if they are okay with it first.
  23. (This may not be the right subforum, but it involved an RP plotline. Admins, please move accordingly.) For those who did not hear the news yet, someone's character died over the weekend. A character who had a lot of connections through all the cities. I just want to clear up any misconceptions about what happened, because this was a completely unexpected twist in the plot-line. The one who died was the attacker. The one who fired was the defender. The defender was completely in the right for their actions. They were defending Grand Company property from an assault of a neighboring city state. The defender in this case had no intention to kill the attacker. This person was not even aware of the death until much later. This needs to be said to clear the air before anyone jumps to conclusions. It was the attacker's own decision to make the wound be fatal AFTER they escaped, and due to complications - not FROM the wound itself. I've seen a little bit of IC anger already against the defender. Before this person risks some sort of ostracization due to OOC/IC bleed through, I wanted to head these emotions off for all involved. It is not fair to them.
  24. Major update after 4 months of story archs and lots of character development!
  25. In that light, she really does look like she's been crying. I'm horrible at taking screenshots.
