  1. AAAAAHAH! Ok. I got this. Thanks!
  2. Hey hey it's okay! Stuff happens, that thread grew quite a bit so there's naturally gonna be some confusion. As per the OP, the game is to draw the poster above you -- so, the poster DIRECTLY above you. Add some references of your character to your post so the next person can tag you, I'm here to fill for whatever spots have been missed :^) Aaaah, gotcha. So you're technically above me if we're going by the first post? Sorry! I HAVE participated in a thread like this before ages ago, but the structure was slightly different so I have gone and confused myself. Can I have a do-over?
  3. Hey, thanks for joining! I have double checked the thread and may have missed it, are they/their character in the thread? I'll just add a Kaede to my post above, if that's the case, since it looks like she was skipped. Previous page, post #74, I think? I hadn't seen a claim for that character (though I may have completely missed it.) I will show myself out.
  4. It dawns on me that he may already have been claimed, but I drew a Blake and it's awful and I'm sorry.
  5. EDIT: Whoops! I goofed. Ok, round two - claiming Kaede, here! I'm at work which means pencil and paper only. http://i.imgur.com/iCXpuEg.jpg[/img] Hilven reference: http://imgur.com/bMRBnFZ
  6. I'm soooo close to finishing Berlin Dance of Death by Helmut Altner. It's a great read if you like to feel bad about stuff.
  7. What could possibly go wrong? Everything. But color me curious as well. It looks like we might have a few time zones to negotiate with, but I'm pretty flexible. Just let me know when you'd like to make something happen!
  8. #latetotheparty But I was browsing through the introduction threads when I got to reading up on your character. Apparently, I've been playing Edric's female doppelganger - background and all. Right down to the fabulous blonde hair. We should, like... RP or something?
  9. Herd u liek creepy electro CCR covers. fckZJW0IugI
  10. I. Basic Info Characters: N'fenya Rhun (Balmung), Hilven Morrow (Faerie) Primary character: N'fenya Rhun Linkshells: Ala Mhigan Resistance Primary RP linkshell: See above II. RP Style I've been at this for a while, and over the years, my preferences and style have evolved quite a bit - something I'm sure a lot of you have experienced. I love writing and I do a lot of it in my spare time. For me, dialogue and description are equally important to scene setting, and there's a time and place for both. I enjoy lasting plots that impact characters; pick-up tavern RP is fine and fun from time to time, but it's not something I can subsist on. Amount of RP (light, medium, heavy): Frequency? Medium. I work full time, so I can really only commit to roleplay in the evenings and on weekends. I prefer medium to longer paragraph emotes when they make sense. Views on RP combat and injuries: Consent, consent, consent. So long as there is ample OOC communication, I'm game to throw down. I don't take any pleasure in playing overly powerful characters, and frankly, I think defeat and injury are great catalysts for character development, so I will take my share of hits without ever bringing out the dice roller. I just expect my partner to afford me the same courtesy, or at least tell me when there is a desired outcome. Views on IC romance: I don't usually get involved in romance-specific plots. If our characters have chemistry and develop feelings for one another through roleplay, I'll play it out, see how it goes, and if it sticks, it becomes part of the narrative, never to be ret-conned. But I don't seek it out, and I don't typically like to roleplay long-term romantic commitments. There will always be exceptions, though. It just needs to make sense for the character. Views on non-romantic RP (family ties, etc): I think these kinds of relationships are fantastic and make for very interesting roleplay. I'm not as big on establishing other player characters as family, since that calls for a little more establishment on familiar details that I often make up as I go. Friendships and business relationships however are awesome. Views on lore: I don't really enjoy roleplaying through lore-focused plots (like setting off on an adventure to try and smoke some aether, or try and stop yet another Calamity, or anything related to GC soldiery, what have you). I do adhere to FFXIV lore restrictions and I seek out roleplayers who do the same, so proper naming conventions, racial characteristics, etc. are important to me. I'm no expert on FFXIV lore though, and I totally welcome feedback if I'm getting something wrong. Views on chat functions (/say, /linkshell, etc): Yay chat. Yay linkshells, especially for OOC coordination. I prefer to roleplay in the main chat channel, unless the content is dubious, in which case, I'll stick with private channels. I'm not very picky about how we sort OOC and IC though, so let me know what you prefer and I'll roll with it. III. 11. Well back when I came to ARR in '14 I created a character on Balmung first before going to Gilgamesh, I tried to RP and jump in to some open events, but I was told by someone that Balmung was mainly for Legacy roleplayers and I should go to Gilgamesh to find RP I kinda felt put off on the server and made the switch to Gilga(she said it in kind of a rude context), it wasn't until after I had already quit playing that I found out the majority of the community was welcoming to new roleplayers and my experience was just wrong place wrong crowd. That's not to say I haven't experienced many groups like that in other games, but when it's a new roleplayer or inexperienced roleplayer who's first contact is with people like that it tends to push them away and into the arms of a less desired gaming role I.E: PvE/Solo/PvP focus. From my experience at least, I can no way claim that to be the reaction of all new roleplayers. I mean you can even look at these forums in the same light, It's daunting for someone like me to get involved in threads that are already well underway, reading posts and seeing everyone know each other while you/I are standing on the outside looking in. My advice to the OP, jump right in to Balmung, you may not get in with the "cliches" but I can promise you'd find a group you mesh well with. After getting a response like that, I don't blame you - I never heard anything like that about Balmung when I was first getting a sense for where to go as a new player looking for RP. Might have been some RP elitism in action, there. But +1 to your advice!
  12. Maaaan, I've just decided that when those words are used in RP context to never, ever assume that I know what they mean (though it looks like I'm on the same page as most of the above posters.) Everyone once in a while, my assumptions are wrong. I walk into a mature RP, my character stabs a guy at which point I provide a chaste description of the gore, and then all of a sudden it's "OMG THAT'S NOT OK" and I'm like "BUT U SAID MATURE" and they're like "GTFO I'M CALLIN THE POLICE HELLO 9-1-1." Well, not exactly. But it's awkward and then I feel like a jerk. So now I ask. If you use "Dark," you can bet I'm going to be PMing you all like "OK BUDDY OLE PAL, by 'DARK,' do you mean 'We're gonna deal with death and troubling themes?' Or 'SOMEBODY TURNED OUT ALL THE LIGHTS!?'"
  13. Pros: People. People everywhere. Lots of RP to be had. And correct me if I'm wrong, but the ONLY servers where you'll find guaranteed RP are Balmung and Gilgamesh. I have alts on other servers and I feel like I never see any RP. So if RP is a must-have, you want to be on these two servers. And yeah, high population means there are almost always people to play with. Cons: So. Many. People. Housing's all gone (but that's a common game-wide problem). You've got to jump through a couple of hoops to roll a character on Balmung. And I've come to accept that "RP illuminatti" is just a term used by certain people to describe cliques, and it is not at all limited to FFXIV. In every MMO with an RP community, you're bound to run into RP cliques - it's just a given. It might be a group of close friends who just happen to prefer RPing with each other over players they don't know, or maybe it is a group of people who enjoy the feeling of being exclusive, in which case, lawl. So don't let that deter you at all. In my experience, this is one of the more inclusive RP communities out there right now. A lot of this has already been said much better by the folks preceding me, but I think it's important to note that all cons aside, if you want to RP with a big community, you need to be on either of these servers.

    Back Again!

Hi everyone! I recently re-subbed to FFXIV after a bit of a hiatus. I played at launch, rolled on Balmung, and had an amazing time on the journey to 50. My roleplay experience was really spotty though, and while I did have some really fun pick-up encounters with great RPers, I had trouble really committing to consistent RP - which was partially precipitated by my IRL friends who intended to eventually join me here, but they just couldn't get into the game. Cue sad me. We were all pretty burnt out on GW2 RP at the time, though, which had turned into a massive clusterfuck by the time we left (can MMO RP give you PTSD?) I was also stupid-busy with work and grumpy 90% of the time, so this was probably for the best. Womp womp. I was pretty bummed out when I accepted that I wasn't going to have my usual RP group on board, and stubbornly struggled with the transition from an enjin-based community to this platform as I tried to find a new writing group. Eventually, real life got in the way and I tabled MMOs and role play. I've since decided to give it another go now that I have more free time (and a much-improved attitude). I've started a free company and am reacquainting myself with the community. Hopefully our paths will cross at some point!
  16. ^ This. His gouache pack changed how I sketch, and his prices are really reasonable for what you're getting.
  17. I've been drawing off and on for the last 12 years or so (and have progressed abysmally.) While my hardware hasn't improved, I've upgraded my software significantly. I'm currently using a super old Wacom Bamboo and Photoshop CC 2015. That, plus the slew of brushes I've acquired from ImagineFX discs and some paid brush packs have really helped me expand my art toolbox. I used to use Paint Tool Sai and Corel Painter, but they weren't conducive to the styles I was trying to achieve.
  18. If this LS is still active, I'd love an invite - this sounds exactly like the kind of network I've been looking for. My in-game name is Hilven Morrow.
  19. Hey all! I've been playing FFXIV 2.0 for a while now and am just now breaking into the RP scene after migrating over from Guild Wars 2. I've been fairly happy with the pick-up RP I've come across so far, but I'm really struggling with finding a central area for free company recruitment and gauging true activity. This site seems to fluctuate with activity, as all RP sites do when their members have lives, but I was curious as to whether or not anyone uses supplemental sites to find RP, like tumblr or the Lodestone? GW2 RP had a really robust hub on Enjin that I looooved, since players got their own comprehensive profiles and it was incredibly simple to connect everything to your guild's enjin page. Is there a contingency over there with a hub like that for FF? Tl;dr, I love FF, I want to establish a free company but am worried it'll be a struggle do to the spread-out nature of the community & ilu enjin.
