Otto #1, vote for Otto, President of the RPC 2015 You know, I'd need a First Lady.

What games would you like to get a remaster?
OttoVann replied to Branson Thorne's topic in Off-Topic Discussion
Theres been like, one person who said FF7 in here. I'm not afraid to say it, give Tifa in HD please. Dont give me voice acting, just remaster the hell out of it, leaves the game voice-less. -
Im willing to be popular so that others may rest.

Literally just a wallet. Otto lives a life of privilege, why carry shit around. Rarely if ever will he even carry a linkpearl, so most Linkshell RP gets ignored pretty hard. That will likely change though, the linkpearl part.

Some people who stand around don't have rp/erp intent of any kind and are instead idling to read the rp. To me thats boring and I wont do it, but out of those 20 idlers, 10 are looking for erp hooks, 7 are waiting for someone, hoping for an approach, and 3 are just idling to read everything else and won't rp / do not rp. Ive got a lot of those people in my LS, it happens. Weird but they're happy so w/e. I... am not sure what you mean by that. You just restated what I said. I don't think the people who are reading things and happy about that are the ones feeling slighted by folks not being social/rping with them. I was saying there's a third type of Quicksand person who just stands around. Not everyone is hoping for approach for whatever they want.

I told myself I wasn't going to post here anymore, however: Some people who stand around don't have rp/erp intent of any kind and are instead idling to read the rp. I haven't seen anything even remotely resembling this. Hint-hint. If you post, and then somebody with a higher rep posts, then people start responding to that person's post instead of yours, chances are that those people know that person, and are their friends. So if we're gonna start demonizing having friends on the RPC then I think there's gonna be a serious case of butts in the mustard, friend But no one said we are demonizing having friends until you did, and we both know that you knew that wasn't my point. I'm also skeptical that hiding the fact that someone joined two weeks ago versus two years ago does that, or that someone who has 30 posts compared to 3000 posts all of a sudden having an equalized voice ala post count/rep hidden does that. Hiding these things, while possibly worthwhile, doesn't stop this from happening, at least not according to my previous moderating experiences. People respond more frequently to people they know or have interacted with before. That's just how it is. That's just how people are. Thought I'd point that out. Oh I know it wont stop it, and theres nothing wrong with people being dismissive of those that aren't their friends, that's their choice. But it does lessen the effect when everyones posts are normalized in there efficacy when a majority of forum goers on any forum use seniority markers to gauge how much value to give a post they just read.

Don't intentionally misconstrue me. A lot of people here outright ignore anything that someone posts who joined recently, posts little, or lacks high value-rep. This is not at all about new people being swayed to anything. This isn't about stopping popular people from being liked, it's about hiding post-counts/join dates get typically ignored. A lot of us have been around a lot of forums for a long time, and we all know it happens. Why not just remove many of the common tools that people use to easily discriminate? More importantly, if we're actually being honest, most 'popular' people here sequester themselves away into google hangouts and skype group chats and ignore almost everyone here not in those groups, that are invite only.
-
What about like, hiding the rep and post count, but letting people opt-in to seeing those in their CP settings. Join date as well maybe. Those numerical scores are used to immediately dismiss a lot of peoples posts on this site for anything, whether it be in arguments, LF-RP stuff, or otherwise. Let those that care about their and other's post counts opt-in to seeing them.

Fucking this right here. And heres the thing, a lot of people can say this and someone might casually read it over and thats that. Really read that part, because at least for me, I tend to at least marginally look over shit before I post it in my RP while im in game. This is commonly given advice, and rarely do people listen to it. You dont need to constantly read your stuff over and over again, but just at least look at it. How many people here will post ridiculously snarky shit but maybe regret it, however they posted it now and its a matter of public record so they just stick with it? It doesnt take much to reread a post, and if you dont change a word thats fine. Just look it over a little at least

I think you will come to see it in this thread, as people wax poetically about what should be different and why they've said certain things in the past. To be honest I can't figure it out, this is the first and likely last mmo I will RP in for a variety of reasons, and for a while I was high on the RPC but I haven't visited it for months until recently. The only thing I can "point out" is that from what I've seen, a lot of people that aren't 'old-crowd' RPC members are straight ignored in any discussion that lasts more than 2 pages, the 'old-crowd' people seemingly talk back and forth only while the rest just sort of speak to the void. The other thing I guess I could stretch for and say is that theres been quite a few more threads with just...hundreds and hundreds of bitchfest posts arguing over inane shit. Ive been around a few forums, the only threads that ever went to a critical-mass like size were the ones dedicated to women in bikinis or something to that effect. This place has them on a regular basis now.

It's a pleasant night here at the Strip's restaurant in Ul'dah. We're partitioned off, near the back from the main flow of the crowd, my dinner date for the evening and I. It's nice, low lighting along with every other patron here having more money than they can count but most of all, speaking quietly. It's a place where servers come wordlessly and try their hardest to speak as little as possible, so they don't distract. Simple nods and gestures are all it takes to get whatever you want after you tell them your order for the evening. Plates here typically run fifty-thousand a piece, enough to ensure only a few will ever be here at one time, amplifying the mood of relaxation and intimacy. This isn't a place to do business or have rendezvous’s that aren't for pleasure of some kind. Tonight, there’s exactly one other couple here with us. I have become a bit of a usual here, and a small nod and greeting is required since our other dining guests for the evening know me. They're a wealthy pair, inherited all of it and act it most times, but it's better to be cordial than dismissive especially in my line of work and my bids to become more political. I'm not dining with one of my wives; I like to bring a date of some kind. Serious or not, I just prefer company with my dinner. Unfortunately, not soon after we take our seats, we get disturbed abruptly by Blades. I'm not even sure how they got inside, this is a private area, and even the worst criminals are left alone in here, it requires connections in a sense. Even the servers aren't quite sure what to do. They look amongst each other before both rushing to block the roped off entrance, hands up in a protest and whispering harshly what they want while the tiny crowd looks at the spectacle. They get swept aside easily enough though, the lead Blade taking to his sword pommel and pulling it from his sheathe enough to give the universal message of move aside or else. I suppose they have the right to be here, they are Blades, but you can tell where real authority starts and ends in a city like Ul'dah when they need to threaten waiters to get inside the establishment because they aren't normally allowed . There’s three of them in all, and out of the bunch only one is even taking this seriously, the leader. He makes it a point of proudly marching forward, his eyes refusing to look down to see if he is going to trip on a carpet or anything, heels forward in his most hard-assed attempt to look the part while his lackeys are more inclined to keep their heads on a swivel, looking up and around awe-struck at the sights. You can always tell when the recruits are new, them being so unused to the non-mundane duties and their locations, such as this one. Men like this leader are trained, and I'm not even sure if he's an actual Blade. It's not everyday one of them are competent at their job, unafraid to violate the soft rules Monetarists have in place, and more than willing to be menacing to whoever is in their way. When it becomes obvious he's here for me after this display I stand to meet him, buttoning my coat while I do it to look like at least one of us belongs here. Right, as he starts to speak I take the initiative, blurting in before he can get out a word edgewise, “Good evening Captain, what a...pleasant surprise. You must be hungry to barge in like that, care to join us?” That's all it took to figure out this man is an imposter, or at least not someone whose true calling in life was to be a Blade for this great city. His lackeys give him away instantly, looking to each other obviously confused under their visors while he makes no attempt at correcting. If he's a Blade, he would be the first I've ever known to not want to correct someone on what their true rank is, and this man is no Captain of anything. He doesn't even give a name and is completely content to ignore everything I said while giving me a quick looking over before he barks “I take it your Otto Vann, which means you will be coming with us.” He doesn't wait for a reply from me, or anything, before looking behind him and jerking his head forward for his men to advance on me, cuffs in their hand. I can't believe this is anything other than a joke at my expense. “I'm sorry, but no. You most certainly are not. Now please leave, everyone here knows you aren't supposed to be here.” I can't manage to say more without breaking my composure from the humor of the situation, this can't be real. I would've known if a 'colleague' of mine, other Monetarists, we're sending this ape to apprehend me in public. We have control over some Blades, but not like this. They would've sent someone with a modicum of manners and decency at least, they would've avoided sending them here of all places, and I'd likely know them. The other two seem disarmed instantly, looking to each other with those same confused glances, then back to their leader seeking something, anything, before turning back to me. Seems they're serious about going through with this and aren't overly afraid of any of the consequences of arresting someone like me in a place like this. While hardass looks onward, he gives an abrupt shout of “Now!” that startles everyone in the now rapt crowd of this little paradise, but most of all motivates these two to walk up to me expectantly. A defeated shake of my head is all I offer while I put my hands forward, palms up, doing my best to adjust my cufflinks beforehand, considering one of them is a linkpearl. I had this one designed to buzz it's other half incessantly, one that Ridley keeps on her at all times now, at least I hope. After my encounter with Ty nearly killing me, I've had to take precautions, especially since I don't ever travel armed with anything other than my unbelievable charm and hair. Whatever imposter-hardass and these two want, it's not typical. “So, where are we headed?”

Because Otto backed the wrong horse, old boy? There's plenty of room on the dark side of things... Oh not not that, not at all. I just hm, like I enjoyed the politics flavor of the RP, the business part. Now thats been ruined by a shit MSQ. For months we figured something bad would happen to anyone that didn't support that stupid ass lalafell queen, and like others have pointed out in the other thread, other merchants themselves are especially at risk above all else. Because Evil being evil for the sake of being evil. I can move on, and I will, it's just disappointing that the Ul'Dah thing is pretty much as dead as dead gets for Otto.

Does your character have a trinket of some sort?
OttoVann replied to Kage's topic in Character Workshop
Mmm the only thing I can think of is Otto's recent acquisitions of the achievement rings you got for creating 300 different items. I got one for GSM and WVR and wear them in my fashion sets. I am in the process of writing up a story that explores that achievement / lore with the guilds and will mention how so few get them (which is also true achievement wise). Probably one of the only things he's proud of. -
Yes. These things tend to be popular lately. Limsa could work, but Otto's style of economic warfare won't be as solid in a place where people are inclined to just kill you and take your stuff and make it look like the vessel carrying your goods was a Garlean ship. Politics in tv is really popular, especially the dirty kind. But your also right people will straight kill Otto in Limsa. I wonder if I could write a shitty story about him learning lessons in Limsa.

This thread has shown me that Uldah rp, and lore is obsessed with cloak and dagger game of thrones stuff. Time to leave for Limsa.
