1. Averill's just come back from Dravania. He was never a civilised sort, but I find him in taverns more often than I'd like to think makes sense ICly. In an effort to rectify this, I'm reaching out to anyone who fancies a long-term story that we can connect our characters with. Right now Averill's on a mission, and it's driving him to act with increasing recklessness. There's plenty of hooks in his character, especially given recent developments - they're all available on his wiki. If your character spends more time out in the wilds, and has an interest in the arcane/aetherical, hit me up! Let's get something planned. I'm available in-game, and via Skype/Discord for offline RP. I'm also open to any FC's that deal in similar business, though I'd like to keep the plot connected to one or two folks, ideally.
2. Averill's an MTG card! I wrestled with his costing for a little while, but with double strike and 24 damage to a player before he dies, he deserves to be this expensive. Maybe a little more.
3. I've updated Averill's wiki and rerolled his character. As a result, this is my new directory complete with wiki link and RP information. Enjoy! I. Basic Information Primary character: Averill Rooks Primary linkshells: Europa II. RP Style Amount of RP: I'm a heavy RPer, without question. Content aside, it's myprimary draw for playing this game. Finding stories and adventure with my fellow RPers is paramount to anything else. RP content: Anything goes - with consent. Combat is Averill's primary skill, so wounds both light and grievous are acceptable. Anything severe, from dismemberment to death, have to be planned in advance. Other happenings, from the intimate to the extreme, must also be planned. It's all about communication. Lore: Eorzea is our playground for a reason. If there are clearbreaks in lore without due justification, that's going to kill my immersion and enjoyment. However, bending and appropriately justified breaks make for engaging RP, used correctly. Chat functions: I use /em and /s. Private matters should be taken to private channels; /p and /t. 4. Averill has a few quirks and habits he's developed during his time as a vagrant: -When speaking, he places his axe between himself and the person he's speaking to. He'll often lean on it, as an elder might his cane. -As he ponders ideas or thinks heavily on something, he scratches his uncountable scars. -When the luxury is afforded to him, he starts every morning with a black coffee. He's learned to make a mean brew over the years. -Always, without exception, whether's he's cooking for one or ten, he rations a portion to dry/preserve for consumption on the road.
5. Recent events have led my character to voluntarily remove himself from civilisation, both in terms of his relationship and actual geography. He has some family problems, so the excuse goes. Currently residing in the Dravanian Forelands, in an area secluded by mountains, his presence has displaced some golden bandersnatches, causing some grief for the local hunters of Tailfeather. Most likely, they'd outsource some help to tackle someone apparently ferocious enough to scare off the stronger predators in the forest. There'd be bulletins - nothing major, just some notices on free company boards, maybe rumours in the sellsword circles - of the problem. Anyone who wants to come check it out, hit me up or look for the Party Finder in-game!
6. Averill's primary partner would be an Aggron. As far as a team's concerned... can't build a team without reflecting the trainer, so let's take a look: 1) Aggron: Damn thing claims a mountain and does its thing far removed from people. It's a perfect fit. 2) Skarmory: A bird that regrows its wings once a cycle to full strength. It's a weird... violent... phoenix-thing. I like it. 3) Mega-Mawile: Normal Mawiles use their charm to lull foes into a false sense of security. Averill tried that once - Mega-Mawile's more his style. 4) Haxorus: Kind when left alone, dangerous when disturbed. If there was ever a reflection for Averill's more human side, it would be here. 5) Tyrantrum: Hubris? Unstoppable rage? Self-destructive over-compensation? I'll stop there. 6) Tyranitar: All of Tyrantrum, with more realm-shaking strength in the right conditions.
7. I used to debate this for the longest time. However, after a chat with my FC-mates along these lines, we eventually pegged Liam O'Brien for Averill's voice actor. He's got the gravelly ferocity of his personality in spades, especially when he takes on characters like Asura (first clip): O1-3XjB234I
8. AVERILL ROOKS Joins at level 30. Averill is a strong physical attacker with a breadth of hard-hitting skills. His primary focus is on single target damage, locating the biggest baddie and cutting them down to size with brutal efficiency, but his ability pool extends to some group target physical skills. Initially encountered squaring up against a ferocious beast, the player is given the option of stepping in to assist the lone savage. The initial fight plays out as a three-sided battle, with Averill as a secondary target who focusses the boss, but unleashes area-of-effect attacks against every combatant. If the beast is killed, Averill will stalk off with nary a word of thanks. Encountered again, this time against a stronger boss, the player must work with an enraged Averill to tackle the creature. If he survives the fight, he will thank the group again, revealing something of his story before leaving. The final encounter sees the group take on Averill as his own boss, his abilities run rampant and twisting him into the monstrous beast, The Rasping. If it is defeated, Averill will beg the group's forgiveness for his failings and offer his axe as the only form of apology he is capable of. Base Stats: HP: 8 Physical Strength: 10 Magical Strength: 2 Physical Defense: 5 Magical Defense: 2 Speed: 7 Total: 34 Usable Equipment: Weapons: Axes, Clubs, Swords, Greataxes, Greatswords, Polearms, Scythes Armor: Clothing, Light Armor --- Abilities --- 30 = Dual Wield: Character can comfortably equip two one-handed weapons with none of the inherent drawbacks. 30 = Auto-Enrage: Inflict berserk on the user when their HP falls below 40%. 30 = Mad Rush: Heavily damage one enemy. Low accuracy. 30 = Challenge: Marks the foe with the highest HP (highest level in case of a tie) for five turns. All physical attacks the user inflicts on the marked foe have a 20% damage boost. 34 = Counter: Chance to attack when damage is taken. 37 = Choke: A single-target attack that lowers an enemy's strength and deals wind damage over time. 42 = Onslaught: Attack target three times. 46 = Ravage: Attack all foes. 52 = Brutalize: A heavy attack against target foe, and deals damage to adjacent targets. 54 = Boost: Boost the user's attack for three turns. 58 = Unchained: Inflict unchained on the user, boosting physical damage by 30% and causing them to use random physical skills. 66 = Tailwind: Boost the party's speed by 10% for three turns. 70 = Heavy Arms Mastery: Character can wield two-handed weapons with one hand. 80 = Savage Rage: When berserked or unchained, add a 25% chance to deal an additional attack after every physical skill. 90 = Scythe Mastery: Scythes now deal 20% damage to adjacent targets. ---Limit Break--- Tempest Breaker = A massive physical and wind strike against all targets.
9. I will probably keep coming back to this, but it's an awesome prompt, so... Here goes! I: "How can your allies watch your back?" The words came sharp, pointed - perhaps pointier than the horns adorning the face that accused him, Averill mused. He stoked the blaze with the head of his axe, flames carving deep valleys in old scars. "Who said I had someone at my back?" "You've the bearing of a warrior." Plate, flawlessly maintained, and an unscarred face shifted into a bemused frown. It had been the first break in the stranger's stoicism, "Any blade that takes the field would never survive if they took it alone." His attention drifted to the fell blade that Averill so carelessly pushed into their fire. "You presume that I take the field." An age's silence returned the warrior to straight lips. "You refuse the duty of the strong?" "Duty?" "To protect the weak - we are the shield-" "I have an axe." "Averill, we protect the weak. We stand against the darkness, do we not?" "You might." Averill shifted. He trained a pale eye on the warrior, resplendent in royal blue and shining gold. "I look like I do much protecting?" He stood. If there was rage, it roiled beneath gilt armour. "Perhaps you are the fiend that cautioned my blade to begin with." Averill stoked the blaze again, eyes averted. No steel followed the warrior's accusation; only the steps carrying heavily into the deep night. 10. Hi all! I used to lurk/post here a little while ago, and in the time since my initial flurry of posts on the fun prompts and making connections Averill has been through a great deal - most prominently, a rework! Not content to give the free-roaming archer an easy time of carrying on, I've taken him back to his roots and rebuilt him from the ground-up. With this in mind, I'm looking for folks to connect with an build him further with. Averill spends a lot of his time out away from civilisation, from the Thanalan wastes to the very borders of the Orn Wilds (even further ICly but y'know. Air walls and such). As a result, he's a great companion for outdoorsy folks or people with a reason to avoid the cities. He's great in combat environments and functions well outside of them. He's played a number of roles in his current FC, as mercenary, companion and antagonist. I'm looking for long-term contacts for arching stories, but one-offs are awesome too! Anyone who's interested, hit me up.
11. So, I have a couple of themes for Averill. This one is his primary - it swings about a lot because he's a brawler, and can't help but cut loose. Given is roots as the scion of a long-dead family of (essentially) nobles, the strings fit quite well, too. 3Whpo3lYRmA This second theme, slightly more mellow, against plays with strings and a minor key. It's for his emotional moments, those few times where his humanity struggles through. P8Tkqln-l4s
12. Averill's a storm. His training and expertise were earned in the wilds of Abalathia's Spine and beyond, and he lives for those savage battles. He wields his axe as comfortably with one hand as he does with two, and lashes about the battlefield possessed by a strength that's his to wield, but never his to control.
13. Crikey, it's been a while since I've posted here. Averill's come a long way from that profile picture, but circumstances dictated that I leave FFXIV for a spell whilst I sorted stuff out. Now I'm back, and with Averill's primary character development done I'm looking for people to help him find his next milestone in life - hopefully through helping others out! I'm based in the EU, and I'm normally available after 19:00GMT, or earlier depending on my shifts. If you're looking for new connections and would like to set something up, please don't hesitate to say hi here or in game! Look forward to meeting you! Wanderingwordsmith
