The Vent Tent - Poor PuGs and Other Terrible Tales
Conchris replied to Gegenji's topic in FFXIV Discussion
Hmm, you could be right. I know a lot of the mechanics of Leviathan off by heart but never could quite remember the wave guys apart from the fact that tooth wipes the raid. Dodging the giant serpent doing acrobatics must've made me gloss over it. Either way, long wait plus bad groups equals grump. -
The Vent Tent - Poor PuGs and Other Terrible Tales
Conchris replied to Gegenji's topic in FFXIV Discussion
Trying to do Wondrous Tails in solo synch queue is like pulling teeth, especially on mechanic heavy fights like Leviathan EX and Thornmarch EX. Queuing up is bad enough as the queue times are stupid long, even as a healer. (I main SCH when I'm not doing dungeons with my FC.) No matter how many times I try to do Leviathan EX, I swear, I get the strangest of groups where half the DPS straight up dies from a stiff breeze (and these are synched level 50s, not real level 50s). I can forgive mistakes but to repeat it over and over and over and over and over makes me want to punch a moogle in the face. And to top it off, how is it possible to not be able to DPS down the Wavetooth Sahagin quickly enough before he screws everyone over with Dreadwash? Even with healer DPS? At least the /facepalm emote is getting some mileage, so there's that. -
Still alive, still open for recruitment..

We're not dead, honest! Just... resting our eyes, yes, that's it.

Growing up is hard, and it is of no exception to William, the miqo'te who had to bear some responsibilities when they, him and his beloved, had moved from a room in the Mizzenmast to a room in the Roost a moon or so ago. He'd been attempting to keep his pockets full by picking up odd jobs from the Carline Canopy, jobs that do not require violence to resolve conflict, fishing too. He had often been busy, to the point where he'd gone on autopilot. And now, it's getting trickier to find jobs that pay and, not only that, he hadn't been keeping in touch with those he'd consider friends. He'd thought he would be able to break free from his shell but his current life decisions have only withdrawn him once more. But, then again, he may have gotten complacent, too used to his now-sedate lifestyle that the carbuncle had been wandering off on him, as though trying to tell him something in its own weird little way. Perhaps it could be right, if he read its intentions correctly, they hadn't been exploring as of recently, not recently, no, and he still has some things to do. Yes, he does, as he scratches out plans for a ball capable of floating in water, all that's left is to find someone who could do it, make one, that is. That'll be a start.

Hell, I'll give this a shot, why not?

100 Questions to Ask About Your Role-Playing Character
Conchris replied to Vash's topic in Character Workshop
Oh! This thread! I've been meaning to do something like this for a while, so, good necro. Okie, let's see... -
William has a carbuncle as a pet that's been with him for a good number of years. It's well behaved, for the most part, but recently it's been a bit of a rebel thanks to the fact that he and his beloved has been spoiling the walking nightlight rotten with a lot of love and affection, however, he still loves the glowing critter, even when it does get a bit unruly.

There's really too much cute in here... Or is there?
-
I don't think this thread has enough cute couples as it is, so, here you go:

I'd like to express my interest in this particular event, if there happens to be any room left. I don't really have any high level gathering classes (besides Fisher, which is about 32-ish) but I DO have a DoM class at 50. For clarity's sake: Fisher (FSH) - 33 Arcanist (ACN) - 50 Miner (MIN) - 35 Edit: Levelled my Miner recently, updated this post to reflect this.

Hello there, glad to see you finally found the coalition. Hope to continue to see you around, Sir Elno!

Updated romance description to state that William is no longer single. Added in the Violet Wing Scholars LS under linkshells.

The wheels in William's mind goes fuss fuss fuss... That's what the miqo'te boy had been doing ever since his significant other contracted a cold. He's not sure as to how she caught it, but he has his theories. However, that's a mystery that'll never be solved until he can find a way to make her better. He had told his carbuncle to stay with her, acting as a sort of room servicer for her, to make sure she feels better despite the cold she'd gotten. Although, for William, being sick is not good, not good at all, he means, what if she maybe gets worse? What then? What for? He purses his lips in thought as he brought up a meal he'd bought with his hard-earned gil to the room in the Mizzenmast Inn in which she was staying. What if it's not a cold? What if it's something worse? No, it's not, stop fussing so much about it. But what if? Shush. But yet, the little fussy boy will keep fussing until his friend is better, that's just how he is. Then, something hit him... not literally, of course, although the door may have smacked him as he opened it. Perhaps there's an alchemical way to fix her problem. And then, it hit him again, the bedpost this time, as he nearly drops his things. There's an alchemist's guild in that scary place, right? May-bee I can go there...? I could learn how to make her better... yeah... proh-bab-lee... well, to Ul'Dah... may-bee.... With that settled, he'll make plans to leave for the city-state in the desert, make a quick trip there and back.

William had never been so scared in his life. Well... perhaps a few times, particularly when he felt that his life was in danger, but he swears that this is the scariest yet. With his significant other and his carbuncle off to bed, he's been left to his own devices for the moment, hemming and hawing, biting his lip, chewing his thumb, anything that could have him come across as nervous, he was doing it. He stands before a notice board pinned up in the Drowning Wench down in Limsa, fumbling with a loose thread on his rather-worn bilaud, contemplative, but scared. He had been planning on putting out a request to the adventurer's guild for a bit of aid, but he'd been putting it off for quite a while due to his own nerves failing him. Despite his friends offering help if he needs it, he doesn't feel like he's worth their time, if at all. But... he needs a bit of help, and although he doesn't want to, he has to acquire it. He takes a few deep breaths, taking a few careful steps away from the notice board, and goes to make his request in the only way he knows how: with the quietest, squeakiest voice that he was only able to conjure through his nerve. Those interested, although he's not sure about that, may hear of an offer made by a miqo'te named "Wiliam Harrowton" from the newly formed company 'Violet Wing Scholars' requesting aid in exploring a palace found in Upper La Noscea.

I often tend to come up with little stories for William, even when I'm not actively RPing, and I often end up incorporating it into my next RP scene if it's appropriate. I think I have learning to be an alchemist in queue after becoming a scholar. I end up walking to places, even while I'm OOC (usually with the busy sign up) and looking for an NPC to turn in my tomes, advance my quest, and other such things. I sometimes tend to /stagger too when I port to places, as well as use a nearby aetheryte or crystal to teleport, it feels weird not to. I've purposefully stopped my Summoner questline so I can have the emerald carbuncle pet forever and ever as a Summoner. Mind you, I would never queue as SMN in trials and raids and the like. On a side note, I often gripe about how I wish there's a carbuncle minion so I won't have to stick to arcanist just to have the adorable little thing. When I'm thinking deeply about something, I tend to use William's way of drawing out certain words like 'may-bee' and 'poss-eeb-lee' and 'proh-bab-lee' in text.

"Eorzea is wondrous and beautiful... when it isn't dangerous. We wish to seek out the many sights and sounds of this land, and revel in it. Together, we'll learn more about the land we live in, mayhaps ourselves." - William Harrowton, draft found in journal and published with permission. The Violet Wing Scholars are an exploration-based free company founded by William and Azami Harrowton, serving, rather loosely, under the Order of the Twin Adder. They specialise in exploration, but are not opposed to taking the odd job, so long as violence isn't the main goal of it. They do not have any official headquarters to speak of, but the two leaders reside in a private inn room that they share down in the Mizzenmast Inn located in Limsa Lominsa. [[tab 2]] Recruitment is fairly open, we would love to get to know you first but it isn't a strong prerequisite. You can apply in-game, either IC or OOC, on Balmung, our server of operations. We don't have many restrictions regarding recruitment besides the following: - That one has a good sense of humour - we tend to appreciate people with humour, especially those who can do serious scenes alongside silly ones, or an effective mix of the two. - One must have a willingness to learn, and to be considerate to those who wish to do so. We were all new RPers once, so if you're new, ask one of us more experienced RPers for advice. Also, we're consistently improving ourselves, so it's all well and good. - Be friendly and helpful. To reiterate, that means to be on your best behaviour to people within the FC and outside the FC. - No badmouthing or drama. For the former, anyone caught doing this about anyone inside or outside the FC will be warned to stop it, next offense will result in removal from the company entirely regardless of status. For the latter, it really depends, OOC drama isn't particularly nice to deal with and should be kept to more private channels for the consideration of others. Already in a FC that you love but you want to be affiliated with us in some way? You're crazy... perhaps we can negotiate an alliance! We're still new and we need all the friends that we can get to help us up onto our feet as we make our first steps out into the big, wide world. Either way, you'll be given access to the IC linkshell for the FC labelled "Astute Opal -VWS IC-", use with great care. [[tab 3]] If the short blurb in the main tab didn't give it away, this FC is exploration-based, exploring the nooks and crannies that Eorzea, the land that FFXIV is based in, has to offer. They also do adventurous stuff from time to time... with as little violence as possible, since both of its founders tend to be a bit averse to hurting things (an understatement in one's case). However, despite this, we intend to tackle in-game content, whether that be something as simple as FATEs, dungeons or treasure hunts, to something that involves jumping on lamp posts to fill out our sightseeing logs. Yes, we are still relatively new and taking baby steps towards setting ourselves up, so please bear with us while we do that and try to get more involved with the RP community.

Quirks... quirks... quirksquirksquirks... I think I know of some. William likes to fidget... a lot. To the point that it's more of a tic than something that he does nervously. He tends to react to praise (or being called 'cute') with a blush, a glance away, hands behind his back, swaying shyly. He has a tendency to pronounce certain words slowly, either because they're a bit long (in the case of words like 'thaumaturgy') or he's thinking deeply about something (in the case of words such as 'maybe' or 'probably') He tends to be a wee bit absent-minded too, usually. He prefers being honest over lying to someone, as he finds it very difficult to lie in the first place without feeling awful about it. He has a slowly developing fear of heights or, to be more specific, fear of heights in places where there isn't much room to manoeuvre. (He isn't going to be an acrobatic anytime soon.)

Ooh, now that is a surprise... I dunno if I should feel scared or not.

Customize a limit break only YOUR character could do
Conchris replied to Pumpkinweed's topic in RP Discussion
Alright, I'll bite, just for the heck of it. William Harrowton I'll ask and answer some simple questions: What if William focused his studies more on the carbuncles? What if it was possible to summon more than just one carbuncle with a few small tweaks to the geometry that gave it life? The result would be a Crazy Carbuncle Lord. Carbuncle Field - ACN Level 1 - Carbuncle Trio - William draws out some arcanima geometry in his grimoire, opening up a 'portal' to bring forth two additional Emerald Carbuncles and, in doing so, his maximum MP is cut in half and the original pet's maximum health is reduced to 1/3rd of its original value. During this time, Rouse will require an Aetherflow stack to use but is 20% more effective. Lasts one minute or until the original pet's health is reduced to 1. Level 2 - Carbuncle Quintet - Same as Level 1, just with two more additional Emerald Carbuncles and a heavier reduction in the original pet's maximum health. The attacks of the carbuncles now inflict Blind and pushes up the DoT timer of every Bio, Bio II, and Miasma spell cast by the owner by two seconds. Rouse is 50% more effective but costs an additional Aetherflow stack. Level 3 - Carbuncle Stampede - Requires three Aetherflow stacks to activate - William unsummons his current pet, holding his book out in front of him to project an aura within 40 yards of his current location. During this time, he is unable to act and any enemy caught within the aura will be assaulted by waves upon waves of small carbuncles, dealing heavy damage per wave, spread out evenly to a maximum of three targets. After applying any of the limit breaks, William becomes Aether Sick, the severity of which is determined by the level of the limit break. At level 1, William's movement and casting speed is slightly reduced. At level 2, his INT and MND stats are reduced. At level 3, he acquires the Brink of Death debuff and becomes unable to generate limit break until combat ends. -
I. Basic Info Characters: William Harrowton Primary character: William Harrowton Linkshells: Astute Opal (The Violet Wing Scholars IC LS), OpenRP Primary RP linkshell: N/A, as of yet. II. RP Style Amount of RP (light, medium, heavy): UPDATE:I suppose I can put myself smack-dab in the middle, as in, I'm a medium RPer. As for skill, I don't think I'm anything but semi-decent at it. Views on RP combat and injuries: I'm all for it, although character deaths and grievous injuries are... mm... not exactly my cup of tea, I'll go through with it if there's a VERY GOOD reason. As for other things, yeah, I can do injuries and the like and although dear William doesn't like fighting, much, he'll probably fight if provoked. Freeform combat, within reason, is fine by me, as well as just rolling for the victor. UPDATE:However, I will say this: IC actions can result in IC consequences, so if anything William does is going to get him grievously injured, then, so be it. Views on IC romance: Certainly. I'm all for IC romance if you can handle dealing with someone who seemingly has a speech impediment and a timid nature. I will warn you, though, William can be very sweet to the ones he loves, so be prepared to deal with some sweetness if you happen to decide to go down that route. Update: He is currently spoken for by someone and is not very keen on affairs. Views on non-romantic RP (family ties, etc): Most definitely. William could use friends to break him out of his shell. For the more intimate ones such as family, we could probably arrange something over /tells. As for enemies, if you can find a reason to hate William, then by all means, perhaps you see him as meddlesome or maybe he probably seems too innocent or perhaps his fidgeting may lead one to believe that he's always up to something. Views on lore: When I'm stepping into new territory, you can bet that I'm looking things up as I go. I tend to try and stay away from things that seem outlandish until I can come up with lore friendly reasons as to why such a thing would be. Views on chat functions (/say, /linkshell, etc): /say is most certainly IC for me, with OOC speech marked appropriately ((like this)), alongside /em and /yell! /tell is more tricky, I'll message with ((double brackets)) for OOC or "speech marks" for IC. /linkshell is really dependant on the linkshell itself. If it's designated as OOC, then I'll treat it as such. IC? Sure, I'll use it for IC purposes ((with the occasional OOC comment!)) /party and /shout are mainly OOC for me, the only exceptions being that I would use /party if I find it fitting to do so as an IC channel, usually for IC instances or something. III. Other Info Country: United Kingdom Timezone: GMT Contact info: I can be reached on Steam via: {GCN} Conchris . And before you ask, no, GCN is not short for Gamecube Nintendo. Although part of me wishes it was... I can also be reached in-game as William Harrowton, or by PM on these forums, since I check here, like, once per day.

So, after registering on these forums and lurking for a few days, I've finally bucked up the courage to say hello. So, hello! Erm... lessee, where can I start? Well, I've been playing MMOs for quite some time, although WoW got most of my playtime (I'm no longer playing it at the moment because, y'know, end of expansion woes). Guild Wars 2 is another one that stood out to me, having clocked in quite a bit. But I've never actually done any Roleplaying on any MMO I've played, I've usually just played the game and did the dailies, fought the boss monsters, got the loot, and logged off for the day, however, I've always been fascinated by those who do RP in MMOs, I've always wondered what it would be like to be like them... This, however, doesn't imply my lack of Roleplaying experience! I actually have a good four to five years, at the time of writing, under my belt on a website whose name I cannot recall for the time being. So, I'm not exactly new to the world of roleplay, but I am new to roleplaying in MMOs! It's... different. Um... so, yeah. You can catch me on Balmung, I'm the shy Miqo'te aptly named 'William Harrowton', yes, not exactly a Miqo'te name befitting of a male from the Keepers of the Moon, so I've had an alternate/'true' name in mind for him just in case. Either way, you'll see me around, doing the standard stuff in MMOs and perhaps doing a bit of RP, whether it be in a city or out in the world. Oh, and studying the lore carefully as I go, still feeling about as I get my 'sealegs'. Looking forward to meet some friendly faces out here.
