  1. Hi Xheja. Though we're already in the same organization, though it'd be fun to give some potential hooks too to my character who could possibly be a potential client for you. Though I haven't RP'ed as much as I should, I'm trying to come up with a few staples that my character would need to be in regular supply of. Cosmetics would be something she would need in her line of work. Would dyes possibly include pen inks?
  2. This reminds me of people on the night before Black Friday in tents camping out infront of a door. No matter which side you're on (fine or un-fine), there always holes to poke in arguments. Fine, there's a finite quantity. Would you be happy if there was a finite quantities of relics nexus because we can't render all the shiniess? First 10 people to grind 1000 runs of Cape Westwind. Cause well, you don't need one, there's tons of other weapons too that are the same ilvl. (Just giving an example.) I'm upset about the whole thing and there really isn't much we can do unless the devs change their minds, but I think everyone just wants a chance to express their displeasure. Attempting to downplay another person's priorities or the importance of a feature is usually a bad idea and normally ends up just makes things go down a bad path on both parties. I always try to keep the philosophy of looking towards a solution rather than dwelling on the problem. If we stay quiet, nothing ever changes. If we complain, at least they'll consider approaching things differently from the feature. Coming up with ideas to give to post on the official forum, or giving RP'er alternatives (I remember seeing someone with personal housing willing to share), and whatever else would be more productive.
  3. Apartments would be way better than what they have now if they could provide it to everyone. They could have made like 1 (or a cluster) of personal housing wards that look like the current one. But instead of getting to decorate the outside and having a plot to yourself, you make it more generic outdoor area. When people access the door, they choose who's house they want. It'd be like company room, but in a slightly larger scale. That at least gives the illusion of a house. Instanced and would presumably be less server intensive. Of course that would take away the stable and garden though. They should just make it so you can stable your chocobo at the porters int he cities and just have a potted plant. Can't cross breed maybe, but you can at least grow chocobo foods.
  4. Micro'ing really has different degrees of control and contextual uses. For most situations it's completely unnecessary I would say and it really depends on a person's taste. For me, I'm always going to be doing other things besides healing if I can help it and micro'ing really helps. While the fairy AI isn't bad, I wish you could set the threshold for healing. The absolute HP threshold for it to trigger embrace gets lower and lower as the tank's max HP pool rises, leaving the fairy's idle time wasted. If a tank has 10k HP, the fairy only starts to heal at 8k, If a tank has 20k HP, it only starts to heal at 16k. Extreme case, but there's definitely a gap there where heal would be useful earlier. It just bothers me that the fairy could toss a heal to top off the tank (and not even overhealing) but is waiting for that magic threshold number to trigger it's AI. (If the threshold is wrong, feel free to correct, just giving an example). Hitting that embrace key by itself in the beginning of a fight might save you a couple heals and other down times when DPS is low or there isn't any spike damage. This is one of the reasons I actually don't macro physick and embrace together.

    O hai thar!

I'm exactly the same way. I don't think on my feet as quickly as other people or make poses so elegant on the fly, but with those I've interacted, they've been super patient and kind. If you need help or what to talk random stuff or maybe even RP *fidgets nervously* (I'm probably as nervous if not more so than you are ), feel free to whisper me. I'm around later in the evenings.
  6. Welcome back to FFXIV and welcome to the RP community! I'm still trying to kick myself getting back into more RP. If you have questions or need some help, feel free to toss me a whisper. More than happy to help with info or a couple things if you really need it. Happy RP's and huntings!
  7. Rule #1 when dealing with angry people: Never, EVER say their anger is unjustified. I run into this kind of response so often it drives me bonkers. Why would you ever think that being unsympathetic would somehow make things better? It doesn't. It NEVER works. So don't do it. Please. This goes for everybody. It should be an absolutely basic rule of thumb. There have been so many instances where I get angry at something and people are just like "well that's not even that bad" which only makes me angrier! Seriously, just don't... don't. Just... stop that. Really. I don't want to hear it and I'm pretty damn sure I'm not the only one who feels that way. A little bit of sympathy goes a long, long way, you know? I'm exactly the same way. That being said though, harassment also isn't acceptable and whoever just did that to Rurutani makes the community look bad as a whole. As much as anyone think we're moaning and groaning, we're just passionate and want to enjoy the game in all ways. It's no fun if you get some only to lean you could only enjoy 50% of the features.
  8. Maybe it's silly to be this emotional about things, but from the tone of this thread, it's not complaining. It's more about expressing their disappointment of how the state of the world is. And if anything it's nice to just vent a little and express our opinions out there and to just sort of share with one another. If you're ok with things, you don't need to read the thread (not trying to sound hostile but not sure how to phase it any other way, I mean it in the most non-offensive way possible really). Had they just sad they were just going to drop housing altogether fine. But instead, they went forward and it's just a cruel tease of what you could do but can't even if you had the funds. We all have what's important to us.
  9. I'm as livid as possible about the whole housing situation. I had been saving tons and working hard to earn gil to get my own house with certain expectations from what little information we were given. Had SE just blatantly said what they had been planning, I would've spent time on working towards something else I'd have enjoyed. It's just a sea of emotions of being angry and sad. Why would they devote so much time to features that only I would guess 5% of players, even if that are able to enjoy? It really just makes me want to quit seeing how the direction of the game has gone in the recent month. Sure it's probably the initial shock and things could change, but if it did, how much more time would they need to devote to it? Normally I hate posting like this, but I'm just so heartbroken after seeing the notes and news, especially for everyone else who worked so hard to save up for the opportunity to own their own piece, to color their chocobos, to get the minions, etc. If there weren't game features tied to it and it was just purely cosmetic, it wouldn't be so bad.
  10. I've been playing a scholar for a bit and while no expert, I'll just put down some things I try to follow (hard to keep track of what everyone said so might be redundant, also just generals rules not accounting for skill limitations in lower level dungeons): I use a general rule of thumb not to use Adlo on DPS. The galvanize is usually wasted if you have a good tank that grabs aggro back quickly or if the boss does AE's with long cooldowns. It only lasts 30 seconds and if they don't get hit afterwards, you're pretty much overhealing. Certain fights where I know DPS will be taking DPS damage I'll use as a preshield (but those are very rare and mana light fights). Succor is also one of those skills you want to use sparingly. It's good for preshielding for AE damage (i.e. Titan stomps). If you're going for true mana efficiency, I think it's more efficient to toss out something like 3 individual physicks than to do a succor (don't quote me on this). Of course if you have a lot of AE damage coming and everyone is borderline dead, you'll want to use this. (Also for when you're just lazy too. ) I believe the threshold to trigger your fairy's heal is 80% automatically. If you micro the pet heal, you can just have it pre-casting during hits and also top people off before that threshold. So for the beginning of the fight, the first few heals will be from my fairy (and you can toss DPS longer too if you like). It can also prevent overheals too if you're tossing single heals to multiple players. I'll sometimes have it heal a DPS while I toss a heal on the tank to top them off. That way we don't cross/over heal. If you're comfortable with the fight, don't store aetherflow stacks. Either use them for lustrates to save a bit of mana or use energy to replenish your pool if there's really no heals needed. I try to glance at my timer occasionally and use 1 aetherflow for when a third of the cooldown passes. If anyone see anything wrong on my tips, feel free to correct, but that's the rules I follow and it works out pretty well. (Also, there's nothing wrong with using up your mana, sometimes you just have to. Better to finish a fight at 1% than to lose a fight 50% mana to state the obvious).
  11. I totally hear you on this and respect anyone who is totally against this and other 3rd parties that extract memory. It's one of those things that's just very gray. If you use xivdb.com, you're technically indirectly using a third party tool which they use to parse out all the data from dat files. It's just really sad that after a year now, they still haven't given any information on a mod API for the client. There are just some things that seem completely wrong (i.e. radar), but other tools like the DPS parser is really useful (but can be detrimental to the community if people use it to harass players). When I use to be in a static that was working on T4 and T5, we were able to identify who were the weaker links in the group. Nobody was harassed, but it really encouraged every to take it up a notch and breed some healthy competition. Unfortunately, SE can't make any exceptions or else it'll just open a can of worms for them later on. It's been a interesting learning experience and if something comes out of the that the community might be able to use, all the better.
  12. That would be super cool! Been really enjoying your emporium thread and would be neat to come visit somewhere physical for it. I'm sure you have plenty of friends, but if you need some items made, I might be able to help out! Need to find a reason to come into the shop or contribute some things for IC reasons!
  13. Thanks Mr. Admin for deleting my multiple posts. I messed up on hitting quote, thinking I was actually. editing. Also, thanks for the heads up on the wiki API. I may dabble with things for fun rather people want it or not just for my own amusement. If anyone has ideas or comments or maybe even contribute, feel free to contact me!
  14. I'd like to join as well if there's room. It would be a great way to meet my fellows RP'ers and get to know everyone OOC (so I'm not so apprehensive when i ease more into roleplay. ^^;
  15. DISCLAIMER: FFXIVAPP IS AGAINST THE SE TOS OFFICIALLY, YOU USE THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK AND DO NOT TALK ABOUT IN GAME. THIS IS HOW THEY FIND PEOPLE USING IT. THIS IS NOT A PROMOTION TO USE THE APPLICATION If this is against the rules to mention this, I will delete the post or a mod can do it, but the idea is still to promote RP and give tools to users. In addition, please note that the application uses Google Analystics and sends information from your client. I've looked at the code and it sends minimal data (like the current version you're using of the client). It's a minor note, but I believe it should be pointed out to respect people's privacy and say it explicitly for those who don't like that sort of stuff. I had previous dabbled in building a framework to absorb the information in the client and was going to start again, but I realized I don't have the time for such a daunting task to maintain a framework or the expertise to really go poking around in memory. FFXIVAPP's open framework really allows from some cool stuff (so much so that some of it might not really seem legit to use). Either way, I was thinking of possibly building a plugin for it. Originally, I was thinking about this log parser/formatter that people could use. However, after hearing about all the other mods in like WoW, the possibilities are way more open that I had originally though. One of the items was how everyone was talking about how to find RP'ers. If there could be a central database/site that everyone could connect to and update, a plugin could easily scrape the data and process it. Every time you had a player come in range, it would pull up their data into an overlay. it's possible to even just use Wiki's for static data if the format was more standardized. An interface would be like a list that looked like (in a nicer columnar format of course): | Status | Name | Type | Note | | OOC | Joe | Heavy | I'm a villain. | | IC | Bob | Medium | I'm a hero. | As implied the limitation would be that you would need be near them. The client could be rigged to write online status too, but it get s a little bit tricky, like if your client crashes before it can go out to the central site/database to update your status then things become unsyced and a player who's offline may appear online. And I'm sure other people would be hesitant having a 3rd party client sending out data, but the code would be all open source for anyone to look at and make contributions too. Of course if no one uses the application, it's sort of useless too. Though with the RPC's wiki, a client can search for particular player and just mark them if they are a RPC member too so it wouldn't require other people to have it as well. it'd be a RP vicinity buddylist of sorts in it's simplest form. Anyway, just sort of musing at what cool ideas we could implement still without the help of SE giving it to us.
  16. Hmm I don't see anything about beef in there... Damn, is my name not lore compliant?!? Your name always makes me hungry.
  17. Hey there and welcome to the RPC! I totally understand being shy about things and also just recently got the courage to reach out to an RP LS as well as introduce myself here. If you're looking for someone as scared of you as you are scared of another person, I might be a good candidate! There are a ton of people here who are knowledgeable here about lore and would be more than glad to share the information. There's even a Keeper group if you're interested (http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=7564). I've never been a huge lore-buff. For me, it's more of avoiding anything lore-breaking rather than always to try and fit the mold. I play a keeper too but more of a urban type than a tribal one like what you're thinking of. From personal experience so far, everyone here is super patient, friendly, and willing to help in whatever way they can so nothing too be to apprehensive about. If you're around in the evenings, don't be afraid to send me a PM @ Phayte Lior. I'm more than happy to just chat, or if you want to run a dungeon, or need help with something crafted. It's always nice to make new friends!
  18. As a person just starting to get more into the RP scene, it was a great experience to RP with Kahn'a's player the other night. Kudos for him for being patient while some things were getting sorted out and for the spontaneous nature which really led to some interesting ideas and some personal insight about myself both OOC and IC.

    New in town

Welcome to the RPC! I'm sure you'll feel write at home. RP really is really just the pictures we paint with our text (the MMO visual is just extra eye candy). Hope to see you around and if you need a body for PvE, would be happy to help!
  20. Don't think I've seen a post with a GIF yet next to your name... but re-welcome?! Maybe we'll bounce into each in game!
  21. Thanks for the comments! The RP/RPC community always seems so open-minded and welcoming. I wasn't too too concerned that the people I would want to interact with wouldn't have a problem with it. I did take a look at PkThunda's shell and considered asking for an invite. Though I have a feeling I'd get booted pretty quickly IC for causing problems among the memberships. Already had an idea from an interaction with a random walk up RP (props to Verad - reminds me I need to write something to) of something terrible she'd do to others.
  22. Thanks for the welcome! Glad to find another MUD'er out there. Sort of a dying genre but still a good one class for the one's still left out there and going strong. It's the only time that I've fully enjoyed a full PVP game because people killed within a context/reason. For the evil aligned aspect of RP, still trying ot figure out a good balance to keep ineractions open with people. If you need a mostly non-combatant bad egg, I'm always up for it and I certainly don't mind losing (more fun to lose in my opinion)!
  23. Welcome to FF, Balmung and the RPC. Nothing more I can say that everyone else already hasn't. I'm currently more heavy into the game itself and trying to wiggle myself into some RP. If you need a partner to run dungeons or need help with quests/bosses or whatever else, I'd be more than happy to lend a hand in any capacity. See you in game hopefully!
  24. Wow, amazing doesn't even come close to describing that picture! I really want one now too. >
  25. The reason I finally crawled out from under my rock.
