Welcome! There's actually a forum called Making Connections that could help you as well. Usually people post more specific details there. Things like what their character is known for and what players that would like to interact with (merchants, bad people, crafters, etc) which help provide hooks for others of why they would approach you outside of just being out of the blue.

Oddly enough, there is a plan in the making to get things up and running. Right now we're buiding up both member relations and setting the house up so it's nice for business. It's taking a while, but it seems to be coming out nicely. We'll eventually be trying to get word out with a possible story arc. Should things keep on progressing on the path we expect, I can give a heads up on our current status. A private eye/investigator may very well suit a story arc! As for this, it's pretty much what I had imagined for the most part. The establihsment will be very evil centric so in my mind, our group would be a little more cautious about who we let in and making sure they can be trusted of course. That doesn't mean things could be overlooked with some craftiness.

Information brokers and private investigators, come forth!
Phayte replied to LadyRochester's topic in Chronicled Connections
Too bad this wasn't just a bit later as an FC that's forming may suit your needs. Though I'll pass word along of this post and see if there's a few that could help you out! -
Certainly the more the merrier, I'll of course make a post if something happens! I definitely appreciate expressing your interest!

Yes, the house is a mansion. I haven't really even begun to decorate since I still need to make the decision to continue forth with this idea, but wow! I love all the ideas you had for a layout and may have to pilfer them all!!! Which got me thinking of taking a different spin on the idea. Maybe a bar on the outside as a front (main floor as you said), but maybe the main function is to provide a haven of villainy services. VIP lounge/private rooms for more of the notorious regulars who come by that bring in business. I thought the basement idea would be a stretch, but hey, if it brings in money to fund the establishment, no questions asked . It's like a safety deposit box, "Hey, I just provide the space, I don't see or ask questions what they put in there. That's not my responsibility." Man, would law enforcement have a field day if they got in...

I think it would be accurate to say that Phayte is two-faced. The problem has always been that the public outlets only allow for one face to be sociably acceptable for her situation. I have to guess that there are others who face the same dilemma as me. You wouldn't know she's a bad girl given the interaction we had the other night, so yes, it is very likely she could end up using you. It's my vehicle of choice to be evil but not shunned by a majority of people. Because if Phayte was just openly mean to you, you probably would walk away and not want to talk with her ever again. I'm not quite as smooth as some other criminals who remain notorious but well sought out still. A place like this would at least allow her real colors to come out from time to time. And as Franz mentioned, I actually have acquired the house already and trying to explore different ways to use it.

Hey Setoh! Yea, feel free to catch me any time and we can chat about this! We've never had a real chance to RP and who knows, this might be an awesome opportunity. Did you actually leave the villain game? Right, you're always being watched by the law if you're in the city so this I hope would be something new. Lavender Beds/Black Shroud is sort of a really awkward place from a logical standpoint, though maybe justifiable being so remote that law enforcement don't venture there very often if all. The ideas you mentioned were some of the same idea I had when coming up with this concept. In terms of spawning connections, I was thinking an LS would be nice to try and connect people who want to gather and make myself available just to be the hostess for times when others aren't around, possibly to even connect like minded people. (i.e. "Hey Phayte, you know anyone that can supply me drugs?" - "Well there is this guy, he usually comes in around X time pushing stuff for cheap.") But like you said, IF this caches on. I just don't know how big of a villainy community we have here, but here's hoping!

(Not sure if this is the proper section so mods feel free to move this to the appropriate forum.) Hi all, I haven't been a very active roleplayer, if at all really, obsessing over the need to progress in game and having limited with family. However, I think I've finally weaned myself away from PvE and would really like to devote more time to roleplay. Normally, I only have several hours in the evening to play with a normal day job, in addition to being interrupted occasionally due to kids waking up from time to time. But I have a few weeks all to myself without the family so I thought now would be the best opportunity to try something. That being said, I was incredibly lucky to find someone who passed on a large house to me in Lavender Beds (though not my ideal location, but I guess I can't complain too much given the situation). I had grand hopes early on in game when housing first came out to run a bar/tavern/inn/brothel. However, it seems like we have an abundance of those already established in the community. So I'm wondering if it's really worthwhile to try something like this still or if anyone else has any ideas what would be useful/beneficial to the RP community. My original intention was to facilitate more villain(ess)/evil roleplay, or at least have a hub for it so people can gather. I remember a post a long time back about a discussion on being openly evil. It doesn't really make sense to go into the Quicksand and brag that you just assassinated an Ul'dahn noble or that you smuggled in a crate of contraband into the city. Often times when I do roleplay, I'll sit next to another shady character beating around the bush, trading pleasantries with euphemisms intimating that we do bad things. You can't just be, "I make a living off selling Limsa's surplus to bands of thieves, you need some?" But in a more private business/settings outside of the city, it'd create an interesting dynamic and make more sense where people could gather and openly solicit/boast about these kinds of scenarios. It could be a form of advertisement, build real infamy outside of NPC reputation, and without the fear of having good align characters coming down on you (at least not immediately). Good characters could even drop by or to sneak in to eavesdrop for leads or some such. Possibly get roughed up and thrown out for snooping. So that's a brief(?) explanation of the idea I had in mind. Would anyone really be interested in something like this? I'd love to entertain other housing ideas for having more outlets for evil RP, but outside the type of establishments I've already listed, I'm not sure what else would work. Thanks in advance for reading all my text and bearing with my horrible organization of thought!

I'll put it out there that I'm ok rather people have a preference or not in terms of RL gender, especially if that person is new to RP. When I first started roleplaying, I wanted to be open because that was the politically correct thing to do. However, when I did actually learn the other person's gender, my IC and OOC interaction with them immediately changed. Years later though, I honestly couldn't care less what you were. I won't ask, but if you offer, it won't affect me one bit either. I think this even goes beyond just the gender issue and more about being too quick to judge. I understand that most people had good intention of trying to help people keep their minds open and broaden options, but I think it does the exact opposite. Everyone's entitled to their own opinions, but I find it somewhat sad to think about killing someone's desires RP just over this reason (so long as it wasn't intentionally malicious or predatory). I think after the first few posts, it should have just been left to that person to make their decision and move on. We could have easily turned away someone who would've been a great addition to the community just because of first impressions.

Oh that's a good point about arcanist. When you level up to 30 and go SCH or SMN, you essentially level the other for free (since level is based on arcanist, somewhat hard to explain). But as other have said, you don't need to create a new character if you've already created one. The only thing is you need to reach level 10 on your first class before you can pick up other ones. Good luck in game!
-
I'm partial to SCH if you wanna DPS and heal. With a fairy pet, you can let it do the bulk of the healing while you toss DoTs/DPS. When the damage gets heavy, you can focus on healing again. It's possible to do it with WHM too, i just haven't had too much experience. That being said, group composition it's better to have 2 WHM as opposed to 2 SCH usually (because succor/adlo doesn't stack so it's wasted). Obviously ideal composition is 1 SCH and 1WHM. But I digress. With either healer class, you can do a fair amount of DPS with cleric stance. With a BLM, you have no option but to DPS (you can heal a little, but it's abysmal since you don't have a anti-cleric stance.)

balmung Seeking slavery themed connections
Phayte replied to DreamedReality's topic in Chronicled Connections
Seems like a really old topic, but it's the first time I've seen it. I was sort of curious to what the subject matter and after reading it, read through the replies because I was wondering if there was anyone who would have volunteered to play the villain side. I think it's very rare that the bad guys ever win in movies or roleplay, but that doesn't mean there's no reason to try or that the consequences have to be directly impact or long long lasting. Though in general, probably the reason is there just aren't as many bad characters as there are good. I'm still trying to kick my but to RP, but I know at least when I do, I'll try to be stick to an evil aligned character. I'm sure the boat has sailed on this plot/experiment, but it's fun to ponder what else could be done from the slavers side to drive some interesting plots. If there were at least some slavers (PC or NPC), I could possibly imagine Phayte being hired and disguising herself as an escaped slave fleeing to the sanctuary. From there, she could be feeding false information to its members about being part of a larger group that was being transported. That could open some interesting interactions where maybe a band of members try to go for a rescue but get ambushed. The intent wouldn't have to be to like murder anyone, but a morale blow to the anti-slavery efforts. -
Name: Phayte Lior World: Balmung Character main class/job/role (Optional): Noncombatant/Rogue/Courtesan Cards (recommended): The Devil Reason for Card choice (recommended): On the exterior, Phayte will always try to blend with her surroundings and the people she's around. However, she will always use whatever advantage she can find to play to her advantage and prey on the flaws and weaknesses on others. She will use her chaotic nature to trap or control whoever is her target, through means of bonds, her sexuality, or whatever other tool is at her disposal. Tumblr name (optional): None worthwhile. I'm a fairly light RP'er and haven't done much lately, but this feels like a really uncomfortable subject. Like others have hinted/already said, it's almost like you'll be forcing certain events onto everyone's character implicitly. Yes, you are giving everyone a heads up, but not everyone who RP's comes to these forums or reads it regularly enough. There'd be some real conflicts between characters who are aware and who aren't. I can just see a conversation where someone's talking to me about this great fire and how things were destroyed, people screaming. And I'm like, what? Was I under some rock? Who's in the right? It sounds like it'd be huge news that almost everyone should know. My suggestion would be to make it on a smaller scale or a very isolated area with overall less significance to the public but may something that has significant meaning to your FC.

I'm a fairly light RP'er, but I've been trying to do a bit more here and there randomly and I actually joined Tylwyth Narah to get involved in more questionable activities and what I have been involved in has been fun. That said, I don't believe TN really has a front, though the organization does deal with some illegal trade but under no facade, just all in secret. (C'kayah can correct me if this is inaccurate.) I really like the idea of a front for a criminal organization, though at least personally, I'm not sure my character would get involved if you're planning a trading organization (she's not much of a merchant or crafter). Personally for my character's venue, I sort of picture a bar, restaurant, club-like place, where you have a back room where deals goes down, or a warehouse of illegal goods in the basement, or hidden reinforced rooms for kidnappings, etc. (Image of Chinese restaurant with a back room where people are illegally gambling playing mahjong suddenly flashed into my head.)
-
If there's only 3 spots right now, I'd like to get in early to grab one.
-
While not a merchant myself IC, any sort of idea to get people connected I think can't hurt. There seems to be some opposition about how the superior powers would see this. You could try to spin it in a way where it doesn't conflict (as much?). Money does quite a bit of talking in Ul'dah so it could be that the group pays a fee to sanction such meetings like this or even just have a premise the meetings are monitored so things are kept in check. Conflict though does make for interesting stories and hooks for people to get into.

Welcome! I've trended to darker plots as well as of late, though I haven't gotten much of RP in due a PvE project with friends in game. I'm hoping to get more into the RP swing of things in another week or so. Maybe our chars will bump into one another!

The lockout really sucks and I would have to say Balmung is one of the hardest servers to create character if not the hardest. Unfortunately your friend chose the worst time to try and create a character. I attempted to create an alt a few weeks back and had no luck late at night (1-2AM CST). I woke up earlier that morning around 6AM and the lock out was lifted. Unfortunately there is no regular open window as I remember SE saying it is based on server load (which the whole AFK thing is sort of valid). If your friend can be patient, I'd say keep trying for a few more days. The patch day craze should die down hopefully for you guys to be together!

Is this the gear we'll be able to get using the Poetic Tomes? I'm sort of confused with all the terms flying around. It fits more the style of coil and if I can't earn this just with tomes, I think I'm going to cry.
