Or how there's no lore justifying the existence of a Hyur/Miqo'te pairing that doesn't end in them getting run out of town? Or that there are no toilets. WHERE DOES THE POOP GO. Orenji had a daydream that he asked Hydaelyn this, and she disappeared before she could give the answer. There's something fishy here guys. And I'm going to find out what.

I'm not saying that Elezen blood is necessary to become a dragoon, just the blood of Ishgardians who took upon those dragon eyes, which were all originally Elezen. So you're saying Elezen blood is necessary to become a dragoon. And frankly, by this logic, Hyur dragoons should be extremely rare as well, if not close to nonexistent. Let's say these extremely rare instances of crossbreeding happened, and the interracial kids got to grow up in Ishgard. How is it you suppose those tiny, exceptional, discriminated against family lines survived for five hundred years in a nation that constantly sends its poor and unwanted (along with some of the rich and wanted) out to fight and die against an unrelenting horde of flying firebreathing monsters? Is every Hyur dragoon just part of one of the luckiest family lines in history? If you want to put it that way, then I'm implying that the lore that is present about the original dragoons (since Haldrath and his descendants started off purely Elezen) implies that indeed, Elezen blood is necessary to become a dragoon. Since, Ishgardian blood is needed to be a dragoon and those original Ishgardians that partook of the power of the eyes were Elezen. I would consider Hyur dragoons to be rather uncommon (not rare) for exactly that reason, because even amongst Temple Knights, there's such a huge dominance of Elezen in their population. Also consider that dragoons are, in fact, rare. Only the elite of those lancers ever become a legitimate dragoon beyond the title of prestige and there's few enough of them that they don't care at all about the politics of Ishgard. I would also have trouble pointing out which dragoon in the cinematic are hyuran compared to the WoL in it.

The original descendants of Haldrath can be assumed to be Elezen since at that time, they were predominantly Elezen. I'm not saying that Elezen blood is necessary to become a dragoon, just the blood of Ishgardians who took upon those dragon eyes, which were all originally Elezen. I'm simply putting two and two together that a descendant of one of those Elezen (read: Ishgardians) bred with a Hyur.

His father messed around as a young priest when he wasn't supposed to. You're getting the story mixed up with Hilda's, whose mother was a Hyur servant. Except the devs have straight out said that crossbreeding simply does not happen outside of extremely rare circumstances, and we have in-game evidence of how anyone who even dares to be in a cross-racial relationship is treated (Hint: it's not good). Your argument seems to be that Ishgardians are all Hyur/Elezen halfbreeds and that simply does not fly with how the setting has been constructed and supported. I thought they specified the type of person that young priest messed with, my memory on that is shoddy lol. As for your second point, Those same devs also answered "Yes" that it does happen. Sure, it's rare. But it happens, and it's possible that say a mutt like Hilda years prior mated to another hyur, and the baby just came out with only dominant hyur genes. While I can't really stand for how DNA works as far as a Final Fantasy game goes, yes it's purely speculation, but it can't be discredited that those Ishgardian Hyuran Dragoons might have an elezen in their line. http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/threads/32685-Questions-related-to-Lore?p=490835&viewfull=1#post490835 My argument isn't that Ishgardians are all Hyur/Elezen halfbreeds because not all Ishgardians are hyuran dragoons. Just that there could've been a few hyuran bloodlines that interbreeded with an elezen descendant of the original dragoons.

Hilda is an irregular abomination, as far as the majority of mainstream Ishgardians of every race are concerned. Additionally, Word of God maintains that crossbreeding among the races is extraordinarily rare. Your speculation can't be definitively proven incorrect, but there is a heck of a lot of known information stacked against it. And Aymeric is not a half-breed, just a bastard. Unless I completely missed something in the MSQ. Wasn't it stated that his father slept with a hyuran maid or something, and that's why he was kept secret as a bastard? I'm probably wrong. Also it's only common sense that hyur/elezen from years past could've breeded and spread that Ishgardian blood. Saying that they couldn't would almost be like saying that Alberic is only a dragoon by title because we've never seen him perform a jump or wear drachen armor. Hyur can copulate with nearly almost anything, I mean Au Ra can be considered related to them. To add, the Age of Endless Frost brought Miqo'te over long before Hyurs, yes. All of those Miqo'te were tribal or in a tribe, and all Miqo'te are descendants of them. It's very possible that Elezen from that time were as xenophobic then as they are now, and refused to let any in as there aren't any miqo'te "families" in Ishgard, nor any tribes as they would've dropped the tribal naming conventions to better suit their xenophobic environment just like the hyur did. There are only miqo'te that have snuck in there (whom were born in Gridania) for what can be assumed to be as a recent development, and Miqo'te that were welcomed into Sharlayan and who knows where else. It's entirely possible miqo'te could've been in Ishgard from time to time but not long enough to learn such sacred arts or breed with hyur/elezen there to gain descendants. After all, they allowed Au Ra into Ishgard years prior only to massacre them for being dragon-like. The Dravanian Hunters, as Oli pointed out, remark how Eorzeans (those two miqo'te) recently came up there for gil, they're both fledgling hunters. All miqo'te present in Coerthas have only been found in Coerthas as guards in the past five-six years (if we're counting the 1.0 guards), and it can be highly assumed that they were hired as there are two Houses known for taking up mercenaries since they can be paid cheaper than their own people. Again, I reaffirm the difference between being a "Citizen of Coerthas" over a "Citizen of Ishgard"

If you look at people like Hilda or Aymeric for example, as Helix said earlier in the thread, if you have two races together for long enough, they're going to copulate and crossbreed. The original dragoons from Haldrath's time were purely elezen, but as you said, if hyur have been with Elezen in Ishgard for more than (at the least) a hundred years, there's going to be generations of mixed breeding to the point where you can kind of just say that they were either taught by the 'super secret dragoon' club of Ishgard with enough trust, or that any Ishgardian hyur is a descendant of an elezen. It can also explain most of the naming conventions of hyurs from Ishgard.

There are two listed: http://ffxiv.gamerescape.com/wiki/K%27leytai Dialogue: Welcome to Camp Riversmeet. I am Gatewarden K'leytai. Our men and women keep vigil over the outlying areas of the Wyrmking's Perch, The Lance, and Twinpools. http://ffxiv.gamerescape.com/wiki/Panha_Jaab Dialogue: Welcome to Camp Crooked Fork. I am Gatewarden Panha Jaab. Our men and women keep vigil over the outlying areas of Maiden Glen, the Hushed Boughs and Scarwing Fall. Strength, work-ethic, and decent connections. Just ask http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Lucia Also, what part of the whole "Kill big dragon, get big title" shtick is particularly difficult to grasp? I have to point out that K'leytai is apart of Saint Conach's Find in terms of ARR, "Our men and women" is in reference to that particular group, seeing as how she's based in Mor Dhona if that is dialogue taken from the levewarden herself. Also, the 1.0 legacy lore, a lot of it was changed to better fit the lore of environments and consistency of the game's setting. What was changed was in an effort to be more appealing and flesh out the lore of each area. While I don't discredit the existence of Panha Jaab and what she says, she could've very well been retconned like a lot of other things in the Legacy lore. (Thus making anything not referenced directly in ARR, like the Roegadyn that comes from a line of Roes that serve Dzemael, speculation) However, House Dzemael and Fortemps are known for hiring adventurers/mercenaries to do their work because they're more eager to help than most Temple Knights. You have to also keep in mind that being a "Citizen of Coerthas" is different than being a "Citizen of Ishgard", which is why Coerthans even still maintain a means of communication with the rest of Eorzea, trying to foster good relations between the Eorzean Alliance when they (might) want something from the Xenophobic Ishgard. Furthermore, the title of dragoon =/= being a Dragoon. One is a title of prestige and one details the core of Ishgardians capable of performing the aerial combat and magic of your basic dragoon. Those same dragoons being descendants of those from old war between man and dragon, essentially Thordan's time. "Born amidst the timeless conflict between men and dragons, these lance-wielding knights have developed an aerial style of combat, that they might better pierce the scaled hides of their mortal foes." While it's certainly possible for any race to work impeccably hard to become an Ishgardian Dragoon by title, it is quite improbable that they became one by class. It would take years of training or access to a fount of power much akin to the Eye to awaken such magics. Training that a race of xenophobes for anything but hyur/elezen would most likely not give. (Also this was mentioned earlier in the thread, but in terms of hyur being lower class than elezen, alot of heretics are in fact hyuran and if you check many of the prisons, it's almost always purely just hyur in there. While this doesn't prove anything, there is certainly a great number of distate for hyur in Ishgard. Also the whole discrimination against "mutts" like Hilda or, by extent, Aymeric.)

Orenji got stabbed in the shoulder by Anrai Sinclair's stiletto in a Grindstone and it was literally left at that. Albiet I won that fight, the dagger was left in his body and there wasn't anything flashy about the shanking.

[Spoilers] Dark Knights, Am I the Only One?
kharnlol replied to -no longer matters-'s topic in RP Discussion
I tend to throw back to older Final Fantasies in my roleplaying of a Dark Knight when it comes to Orenji. Much like Draco said, he keeps it under wraps because I've seen a vast majority of roleplayers that "suffer not a Dark Knight to live" thinking them beasts and such. In terms of personality in non-aetheric combat, I like to pay heavy homage to Guts (from Berserk) and the general idea of 'sacrifice HP to boost DPS insanely'. Orenji's combat style involves him often getting hit in order to strike his opponent even harder. (In fact he became friends with Draco by getting stabbed in the shoulder and summarily using that distance to swing his blade back at him). He's a risk taker, where he cares less about getting hit so long as he can strike back, the whole "the best defense is a good offense" deal that I don't see many DRK roleplayers take. While I'm not the biggest fan of the XIV twist of stealing HP to be tankier, in terms of aether, Orenji is highly reliant on enhancing his own blade with dark magics or using old school dark-versions of classic FF spells. Dark Firaga, Dark Blizzaga, etc. Since his own echo is that of subconscious time magic use, i.e. Slow/Haste (it's what allows his ego to claim that he's the fastest around), it only fit even more perfectly when doing the DRK questline (specifically the level 50 one) and your opponent starts using Gravity and such, which are also time magics. I'd love to think that the 30-50 questline was written perfectly for Orenji's character development as both a dark knight and a leader (because it totally was), but it fits extremely well into how I roleplay them. I base Orenji heavily on a combo of both Kain and Cecil Harvey, two of my favorite protagonists of all time. Orenji's darkness is a very real 'inner voice' character for him, whom he battles wits with in terms of his instinct and emotions not unlike Ichigo (from the manga Bleach) would his inner hollow, not to get too spoilery with the DRK questline. That is the source for most of his aether magics, especially what allows him to be a Dark Knight. Though as someone said before me, all in all, they're really just batmen that aren't afraid to kill people for the greater good. -
Welcome! Balmung is an awesome community, hope you like it!

HAIL! A fun event to be apart of! Thank you so much for the opportunity! -
An update of the Pony Force 5 (plus one), waiting fiercely for an afk hyur to come back to her keyboard:
-
They certainly were pretty fun to be around, and LOL I saw the magitek guy too!
-
So, I just had a run in with a group of 'law enforcers' fancying themselves as the "Pony Force Five". What I can guess is a new group of Super Sentai saving the denizens of Eorzea, one poor hapless adventurer at a time. I would like to say, thanks for the hilarious random RP if any of you browse this forum! And I would like to make this as an example that, if you guys encounter anyone that you may think is trolling you ICly, it's okay to react ICly to them! For example if your character saw someone masquerading as a fairy queen or a power ranger on a primal horse, they'd think they were some random lunatic right? Power to the roleplayer! Roleplay! If any of you have any stories or screenshots related to this fantastical group, feel free to share! (Spoilered for ease of looking) I gave them good chase,

[EPISODE 4 DONE] Final Fantasy XIV: Hydaelyn Unlimited
kharnlol replied to SM Nick's topic in Off-Topic Discussion
Interesting? When do you think he would be introduced? Gridania? Hmm? He lives in Gridania or is often in Coerthas, but yes! Either way is fine. He's an FC leader of sky pirates known as the Rising Claws, but often goes to venture on his lonesome to avoid being a burden upon others. Interesting! Let me make myself clear by saying that since there are more than 8 Warriors of Light obviously (the people who fought at the Battle of Carteneau are all Warriors of Light), I would like to mainly focus on 8 of them, to represent a full party in-game. More Warriors of Light are always welcome, but if you wanna be a main WoL, then there are limited spots (only 5 left). Nonetheless, you (Kharn) will be a WoL. Woot! sounds fine by me! -

[EPISODE 4 DONE] Final Fantasy XIV: Hydaelyn Unlimited
kharnlol replied to SM Nick's topic in Off-Topic Discussion
Character Name: Orenji Kharn Nickname: Kharn Race/Clan: Miqo'te/Seeker of the Sun Gender: Male Character Role: Warrior of Light Echo (Warrior of Light): Time Slow (Due to his uncharacteristic reflexes, people often take this as him bearing unnatural speed. This is actually the opposite, in which he can manipulate a few seconds ahead of time.) Aspect (If Warrior of Light): Wind Strengths: A rational thinker and collected leader, calculating every option before taking action. Well versed in both lance and hand-to-hand combat. Flaws: Beneath the mask is a kit younger than he appears, he is fearless in battle to the point of being a fault, ready to lay down his life for those he must protect. Doesn't drink alcohol. Synopsis: A knight clad in silver draconic armor, with lance in hand. He is a gentle and compassionate soul, an Onion knight-in-training searching for a way to stave off a growing darkness inside of him. As a dragoon, he'd assist in aerial battles or if it's related to fighting anything of Void or Ascian creation, he'd be there. Personal Note(s): He is two very different personas with and without the mask. Without his mask, he is very happy-go-lucky and outgoing, expressing a childish innocence that he represses when he dons his armor and acts in his guise of Kharn. With it, he can be very comparable to Kain from FF4.
