Thanks I'd always seen HoD tags around and never ended up properly checking you guys out. You should be hearing from me presently.

Howdy folks! Some of you may have met me before. I'm banndsand. It's not my first time here, but I've been away so long I figured I should reintroduce myself and pose some questions here at the Welcome Desk! A little about me: I'm a psych student in eastern Canada, my first language is French, and I have a pet dove. When I'm not studying, I make internet content and play lots of games. I've technically been into RP since I was like 9, but when it comes to MMO RP I've been doing it for only a few years. I tend to be pretty shy so I've been mostly a lurker in these years, haha, but I can assure you I've read over the do's and don't's of RP more times than I can count. o_o (For more about me, feel free to check my previous introduction thread. Or just ask. I love answering questions.) I first played FFXIV in late 2014, until a little after Heavensward, and I thoroughly loved it until the fall semester got crazy and I had to let my sub lapse for a while. I love the aesthetic. I love the races. I love the classes. I've missed it so much! But now it's summer break, and the only other MMO on my radar just isn't working for me, so I'm back. In my time away, my old FC has vanished, so I'm looking for a new one, preferably focused mainly on RP and willing to answer any dumb questions I may have. I've got four pretty different characters, and I might be tweaking them a little (or getting rid of one or two) while I get to know them again, so I should be able to pretty easily fit at least one of 'em into any given FC genre. Though if this isn't the best place to ask about FCs, please let me know and I'll make an appropriate post elsewhere~ I'm looking forward to meeting and reacquainting myself with all the new and old faces around here.

I've got some social issues that have led to me avoiding forming bonds with others online, without even noticing I'm doing it. One of my hopes with RP is to overcome that, because of the highly social nature of the thing, but so far it hasn't really been working that well. If anyone thinks I'm ignoring them or have forgotten about them... it's not the case. Thankfully in FFXIV I have yet to straight up run away from people, which is at least an improvement. Aside from that, my other confessions are: I am still pretty inexperienced with the finer do's and don't's of RP, so I often worry about the various pet peeves that people can have about it. This leads to a cycle of "Am I doing this wrong? Should I ask them? Would that be even more annoying? Should I just stick with what I'm comfortable doing?" and so on. I let my FFXIV sub lapse quite often, as I am a student, and thus have little time and money to put towards these kinds of luxuries. As a result, I'm sure I've made people think I'm not interested or invested in relations with them, but it's just that I'm really bad at juggling school and MMOs, and I have to put my student loans to use. D: I sometimes play characters who like to hit on people, but bad experiences with ERPers as well as my personal views on erotic content in general have led to my making those characters into a huge tease. Sorry. I am an alt-aholic. I can't stop. I know between that and my sparse playtime that makes it difficult to manage RP, but if I limit myself to one character I will get bored and stop playing altogether, which is probably worse? In any case, if people want to avoid me for that reason, it's perfectly fine. If it helps, I used to have even more characters. EDIT: I also sometimes go on the forums while waiting for FFXIV client to open and I end up lurking all day instead of playing the game. x.x

What future game releases are you most looking forward to?
banndsand replied to Dravus's topic in Off-Topic Discussion
Yay a fellow Monster Hunter! I was beginning to think I was the only one. Also Final Fantasy Explorers will be coming to North America on January 26th of 2016 and Europe on the 29th. -

Games for which I am hyped: Monster Hunter X - Coming out in Japan this fall, hopefully NA next year or the year after that. The more I hear about it, the cooler it looks. Fire Emblem Fates - Awakening was the first FE to really click with me, so I'm quite looking forward to this one. The Legend of Zelda Wii U - Don't know too much about it yet, but I've got high hopes. Games I am moderately interested in and will probably preorder: Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer - I need my Animal Crossing fix. Those amiibo cards are going to break my budget, I'm sure. Xenoblade Chronicles X - I want to fly around in a huge mech. Tales of Zestiria - Always need more Tales games. Tales of Symphonia being a possible preorder bonus on steam is also nice. Fallout 4 - Bethesda's E3 conference got me pretty interested. Kickstarted stuff: Hiveswap River City Ransom Underground Yooka-Laylee -
I find I can only really focus on one MMO at a time, given how much time I devote to my studies 2/3 of the year. I still have a few installed, though, in case my friends ever give me a reason to play them (GW2, Mabinogi, ArcheAge, Wildstar), but some I doubt I will ever touch again. Last year I got pretty MMO crazy, trying to find my new permanent game after I lost interest in GW2, which is what led me to Wildstar (then the community disappeared), and ArcheAge (then the money-grabbing company and drama between all the RPers I could find scared me off), before finally finding FFXIV in late fall. I've been happy here ever since. Though I still have an active sub for Wildstar because of the Free* stuff you get for subbing until they go F2P this fall. But I think it's a bit silly that I can't find motivation to play it despite already paying monthly. Bleh. At least an active sub lets me use the game for references when I draw my old characters.

I'm curious what the winning numbers were for the raffle. My character got a little drunk and wandered off (I had to log out for OOC reasons) so I wasn't there after the dating game started. -
I like this icon because I can put in my chat "LFM=IC" and not have to use any more of the very limited space than that to tell people when I am available for RP (it's hard enough to fit a brief description and tinyurl wiki links in there). Also because I don't type up actions super fast, so if I am RPing on my own to signal "hey, look at me, I'm in-character", people walking by might not always see my messages. Another thing is I can easily turn it off if I need to brb to go grab a snack or something, thus making me less worried that someone might walk up and think I'm ignoring them when I'm just briefly AFK. x.x EDIT: repetitive vocabulary fix

Your art is so pretty~ When I saw Yorumei's picture on the wiki I was super impressed, and now I find out there's even more and you do this for a living?! Good job! Hopefully I can put aside some money sometime to try and get a commission from you. c:

I think I saw it mentioned somewhere that the product key is linked to the motherboard. Not totally sure, but kinda lame since I want to upgrade mine soon. But at least I know in advance that there may be some extra costs to take into account. In other news, I took the plunge and upgraded to 10. Took me a while to stop fiddling with my settings and actually test out some of my most-used applications. So far no problems. Just gotta get used to it all. Unfortunately I won't be testing out Cortana yet, as she's not available in my country. Oh well. I'd switch my region and language settings to unlock her as apparently a lot of folks have been doing, but I want the full "tailored to your culture" experience that microsoft seems keen on delivering within a few months. We'll see. Overall I'm enjoying the new aesthetic (having the accent colour change depending on my varying wallpapers is a nice optional touch, on top of the fact I've been dreaming of a black angular UI like this since Vista), my stuff works, and I've yet to have problems~

Yes, this. Because of 10 wanting you to install all new updates automatically, it ended up installing a beta driver that was pretty darn bad. For those who don't know, they've fortunately released a tool which lets you tell windows not to install certain updates, but you need to download it as it is not built-in. I hope they add a setting soon that lets you turn the automatic updating off without having to download a separate tool to pick and choose what you want. Or just hide the update. It should be noted that the only users who are forced to install all updates are the general "home" users. Win10 Pro/Enterprise can be configured differently. Right. I'm a home user, as I expect a lot of users are, so I was being more general.

I've been looking at articles and impressions here and there for the past few days, trying to decide, and honestly it seems to me like a big improvement over 8. My main problem with 8 when I'd get roped into helping people with their computer troubles was how difficult it was to navigate with the settings all over the place and the lack of a proper start menu. In 10 you have a start menu again (wow), and apparently the search function is... actually useful? Double-wow. So I'm not too sure what else I need out of it. I'm expecting bugs for a while, and I intend to fiddle with it for several days after installing to make sure it's set up just right (ex: disabling silly things like Wi-Fi Sense, automatic restarts after updates, forced automatic updates, etc.). I'm so accustomed to just wrestling with computers to get them to do what I want that I'm having trouble seeing downsides that I won't just consider "mild and/or temporary inconveniences." Am I missing any glaring problems that won't be quickly fixed? Also Cortana looks neat (been a while since I've ordered my computer around by voice) and I'm willing to play with it for a while, especially since it has a lot of similar features to Google Now, which I already enjoy on my phone and wouldn't mind having on my computer as well.

Still in the same place?

Hey everyone! Windows 10 officially released today and I'm wondering if anyone here is planning to "upgrade" in the near future, or has already done so. Myself, I'm still trying to decide whether I'll update right away or wait a few weeks. I'm still on 7, so I feel like I've waited long enough to upgrade, and it just looks soooo shiiinyyy. Plus, Squenix said that FFXIV should be compatible, though they're not officially confirming it until they do some proper testing. It's the main game I play on PC lately so I'm not too worried about compatibility overall. What are your impressions on Windows 10?

All of my characters asking at once: "Uh. Sure." *begins dreaming of how the strange harem would work* Qaratolui: "I don't want to live in a cave. Also you're just too pointy. <.<" Jakatolui: "This isn't some kind of scheme is it? Or are you just drunk?" Zuzureji: "Are you even old enough to get married? How would this even work?! No." Usynthuv: "Does this mean you think I'm cute? >////> I... Gah! *runs away*"

I'm quite interested in this, but I've got several characters so I'm a bit hesitant to fill out your survey. I feel like each of my characters has different reasons to go on adventures as well as locations they frequent which could make them more or less suitable for different dungeon locations and scenarios. How should I go about this?

Eorzean Aetheists and The Believability of Such Characters
banndsand replied to Dat Oni's topic in FFXIV Discussion
I've got a character who is willing to accept the existence of the Twelve, but doesn't think they have any influence on the world anymore, if they ever did. Lore-wise, the Twelve can't really influence Eorzea much, anyway, so from her perspective "miracles" are just fortunate coincidences. She doesn't see a reason to worship deities that do nothing, so she doesn't worship the Twelve. She might be more open to considering Elementals and Primals as some sort of gods (because they actually act), but she hasn't had much exposure to positive talk of either (seeing as she hasn't been to the Black Shroud and doesn't frequent beast tribes) so she hasn't thought about it. Does that seem like a believable Eorzean atheist? Maybe agnostic would be a better description for her. EDIT: Now that I think of it, the fact Primals require worship to be summoned would probably put her off the idea anyway. -
Right, forgot to add that Jakatolui is part of the Noyakir tribe as well. Though she doesn't really affiliate with them anymore. Thanks for making this list, K'nahli

Jakatolui had a lot of fun, as did I. I look forward to spectating next week. Thanks for organising it! -
The tribe's still kicking! And will be as long as there are Noyakirs in existence. :B Anyone who is interested, feel free to PM me.
