1. Don't let your guard down. i was in queue for twenty minutes - numbers dropping and everything - before I hit another 2002 error and got booted. I got down to 274 from 770 or so and then the loading screen appeared! Huzzah! It's too bad I have to be going to bed within the hour...
2. So I got to the seemingly infinite queue... and then it started going down... like a normal queue! Is it happening? Will I finally get to play?
3. Qaratolui Noyakir is my new main. Noyakir being a scattered, player-made, non-canon tribe. It's sort of a mish-mash of a few tribes, really. I made it because 1. I couldn't decide on a tribe (there are SO MANY) and 2. I wanted something more concrete than a little blurb for my tribe, to avoid stepping on people's toes if they had a different impression of the same tribe. The Noyakir tribe is open for anyone to join! If any interested parties would like to have some slight modifications made, it can certainly be discussed. I wrote this up pretty quickly, so it might be modified a bit before finalizing, especially if I get input. Otherwise the completed version will be posted on my character's wiki page (unless there are tribe pages?) once I've made that. I'm still figuring out how the wiki works, so I figured it would be best to post it here first.
4. I guess I was wrong to write "Auri names plz" on the cake I made the other day. Should have written "No more 1014"... In any case, I didn't get like two hours of sleep just to give up now! I hope they are able to sort this stuff out without too much delay.
5. Somehow I managed to create my new Au Ra character from scratch before the servers filled up and subsequently died. I'm so happy from that, that all these errors are ok for me now. *thinks of what I can do with the 10-20$ I saved from not having to buy a name change*
6. Khitzu would be in woodshop/mechanic workshop all the time, thoroughly getting on the nerves of the teacher running it for general unruliness and for flirting with all the female students.
7. I haven't RPed much yet so I can't really add much to this... On the other hand, though, I'm glad to see this thread as it reinforces the decisions I made with some of my characters. For example, my current main is a novice smith, so 70% of the time I have her in the workshops and the other 30% she's out gathering/buying mats, testing product, or getting dragged on adventures and thus shaking in her boots. And once I get my Au Ra, he'll probably be asking people for help with directions and things because (if the still-unannounced lore permits), he will probably be pretty illiterate. Definitely going to be keeping an eye on this thread to see how I could help out in making RP more immersive.
8. I love Splatoon. My partner loves Splatoon. We have spent way too much money on Splatoon merch. x.x I liked the Splattershot Jr. at first (bubbler is useful in a squeeze), and played roller a lot in the testfires when nobody seemed to know how to counter it well. Now I tend to use the .96 gal and the Kelp Splat Charger. Took me a long time to get used to the charger, but I am attracted to sniper rifles, so I spent a few days sucking at it and finally found ways to be deadly and still cover a fair amount of turf. Oh and the '85 Zapper is fun as well, and looks good to boot! I haven't played since before they added the Kelp Dome (I think that's the name?) so I need to catch up. Such a fun game imo.
9. Full-time student of psychology. In the summer I explore hobbies and attempt to make money off them while my family tells me to get a "real job".
10. I. Basic Info Characters: Qaratolui Noyakir (primary) Jakatolui Noyakir Usynthuv Wintahrwyn Zuzureji Kukureji Khitzu Rinh (retired, fantasia'd and renamed as Jakatolui Noyakir) Zuzuki Zuki (possible retirement) Linkshells: Noyakir Tribe (OOC, can invite on Qaratolui and Jakatolui) Scales of Othard (OOC) II. RP Style Amount of RP (light, medium, heavy): I'd probably describe my RP as medium? I tend not to use those terms much, so hopefully that's not wildly inaccurate. Essentially, I like to stick closely to lore, stay IC as much as possible and use the game systems (classes, actions, etc.) as a sort of base for my characters (ex: Qaratolui is a Bard, but IC he is a novice with the bow). I like to keep a certain continuity in my characters' stories and hopefully manage some development. However, RP is not my only focus in the game, as I also like to run around and level the various classes (thanks to alts, I can play different roles without being too far from IC), so sometimes my characters will do things purely OOC. Views on RP combat and injuries: I don't really have much experience doing RP combat, but I think with a bit of OOC guidance I could probably manage it. I understand that there are several systems in place to make things fair, such as pre-determined outcomes discussed by the involved parties, dice rolls, open-ended statements, etc. and I am prepared to follow those systems. On the topic of injuries, death and dismemberment, I'd like to be able to decide whether my characters will get mangled or not. Scars I can usually accept, but dismemberment I normally won't. I am only likely to accept having my characters killed if I am looking to retire them anyway. Some of my characters have certain scars that make up part of their backstory. Depending on some factors, roleplayed stories could be added into that backstory to explain the scar in more detail. Views on IC romance: I'm not against it if it occurs organically, but I'm not one to actively seek it out. I will not do any erotic scenes, however. Some of my characters may be flirty or the like, but I consider it more of a quirk than a bid for romance. Views on non-romantic RP (family ties, etc): I view "non-romantic RP" as "most RP" in my case. I tend to run around IC a lot, and I love living out my adventures in the world of Eorzea alongside all of you fine folks! If someone wants to be involved in my character's backstory or plots, or vice-versa, I am perfectly happy to discuss it with them to figure out where our characters can best fit together. I tend to be somewhat vague with backstory stuff in case I need to add things or people to it in the future. Views on lore: I think lore is important to make the world of FFXIV a (somewhat) realistic and functional place. I try to follow the lore as much as possible, only making assumptions when I feel it is logical to do so. If I make mistakes, feel free to point them out, as I'd like to be as lore-accurate as I can be. As for my views on how others treat the lore, I'd prefer it if they didn't break it. I understand bending or extending it to suit certain needs, but if something completely lore-breaking happens (ex: you turn into the Hulk and throw a Kamehameha), I will probably no longer wish to take part in the RP. Views on chat functions (/say, /linkshell, etc): /say: I prefer it to be IC. I will usually use ((parentheses)) to denote OOC chat. Others can do what they wish, of course, though I will likely ask if they are IC or not if I get confused. /em and emotes: I will normally treat them as IC, unless they are absolutely ridiculous (ex: a rapid succession of seemingly random emotes). /tell: I will normally use tells in an OOC fashion, but that can change depending on the context. Sometimes my characters will whisper something to other characters, which I will do in tells, with some hinting in /say or /em for others. Sometimes it is simply better to RP in /tell (ex: to avoid chat spam or trolls). /party: I will often treat this as OOC, but depending on the context it may become IC. /linkshell: Each linkshell has their own rules, which I respect. I'll be IC or OOC depending on the specific LS's rules. /freecompany: This, too, depends on the group I am joining. I intend to follow the rules laid out by the specific FC. Overall, if I notice someone talking IC on a particular chat channel, I will normally switch to IC and/or ((OOC in parentheses)) over that channel to match. III. Other Info Country: Canada, specifically New-Brunswick Timezone: Atlantic (UTC -3) Contact info: I can be PMed on here or in-game. Or if you find a "banndsand" on just about any site, it's usually me. Footnotes: If I do anything to upset you, feel free to talk to me about it. Sometimes I say some pretty dumb things, and I'd like to learn not to do that, so it would genuinely be appreciated. ~Special announcements can be found in the posts below~
11. This is me also. Oh and I'll probably be going "Why didn't I make a placeholder character when I had the chance?!" while constantly refreshing the server list in the character creator. That part is starting to turn into a holiday tradition for me now. Unless they release naming conventions in time for me to make one before patch, in which case I will be very happy.
12. Wow, very interesting! It gives me many ideas for my character... who maybe could have been a part of this tribe possibly with your permission? *beaming smile* Though that depends on how he and the official lore turn out. But anyway, very nice job! I was pleasantly surprised at the quantity as well as quality!
13. Starting a new Au Ra character from scratch. I didn't play enough on my old characters, so it'll be a way to rediscover Eorzea through new eyes.
14. I'm sort of curious as to how the Garlean Empire factors into Au Ra life, as I think Othard is under Garlean control right now? Not sure if they would be exerting their influence a lot there or leaving the Au Ra be somewhat. Also I like your ideas. I hope more people will chime in as well. I'm so hungry for Au Ra lore right now.
15. I haven't been playing FFXIV for a few months now due to school, but was excited when I heard about the expansion. I plan to make a full return on a new Au Ra character once the expansion hits to see the world through his fresh-to-Eorzea eyes. I fully expect people to find him a little scary or ugly or whatever. If someone wants to discriminate against my character, my only hope is that their feelings are IC and that I can use the opportunity to develop him as a character. Fiction being fiction, inherently separate from reality, I find that themes of difficulty and strife can be deeply moving and can lead the readers (or in this case participants) to more easily empathizing with groups that do face such difficulties in the real world. If that kind of fiction bothers people, I hope they will be able to avoid it. For anyone else wanting that kind of thing, feel free to say hi if you see my yet-unnamed character (still waiting for naming conventions x.x) around.
16. Fortunately I'm on winter break, so I'm rushing through my lancer levels at (what I consider) breakneck speed. And of course reading every text box that comes my way. Hopefully it shouldn't be too long before I can figure out where my character fits in the world. If you'd like, I could let you know once I've got some sort of bio or the like ready. So far I haven't been having too many network issues in-game. Unless someone else uses the internet in my flat. Then I log off for a while because the lag spikes are awful haha... Philosophy is really cool as well. I've always wanted to learn more about it, but unfortunately I already have to pick between two fields I love. I generally like to see different views on how/why things work the way they do. Things that make me think and wonder. I should really get back to reading those sorts of books in my free time... If only one could go to school forever~
17. If you could add Khitzu Rinh to the waiting list, I'd appreciate it.
18. I had the fortune (and, in a sense, misfortune for my French) to grow up in a bilingual (mostly English) city, so thankfully my English is alright. That and video games taught me a lot. I'm glad it seems like it will be very easy to find RP. I look forward to meeting many of you IC. Hopefully I can add to the number of non-grumpy paladins with my Zuzu boy. Hehe Ramblers unite! Hahaha Yes, hopefully our characters could meet sometime. Though I may hold off on RP a bit until I learn more about the game. Wouldn't want to do something crazy by accident! My internet speed is rather sub-par for my area, so we may actually be around the same pace! lol Physics and psychology are great. I actually don't have a specialization yet in physics as I am still in my first years. I am interested in the theoretical aspects, but most of what I have done so far has been more applied. trufax also woot woot to having another french-canadian on the site, and an acadian to boot! (I'm not one tho) All sites need more French Canadians. So hard to find us on the 'net these days. Good to meet you! And to all of you, thank you for the warm welcomes and re-welcomes.
19. Hello everyone! You may have already met me from my previous thread in this section, in which I mainly just asked some questions to get me started in the game. Now that I've finally got some characters on Balmung, I thought it would be a good time to actually introduce myself and say some things about myself that you may or may not be interested in reading. Anyway, I'll try to limit my rambling and go with the suggested template: --MMORPG background I've played a ton of MMORPGs for varying amounts of time. The first time I played one was when my cousin showed me Ragnarok Online on a private server. I was totally hooked. I spent the next few years looking for free-to-play MMOs (as I was still quite young), much to my father's chagrin, as he feared the dreaded viruses. One day I got my own computer, and thus began my excessive MMO experience. I played just about any game I could get my hands on, looking for an experience that stuck. Eventually I found Mabinogi, which I then played consistently until a little before I started playing Guild Wars 2, shortly after its release. That's not to say I didn't try other games, though. I had brief stints with Star Wars: The Old Republic and TERA while I was playing Mabinogi and GW2. During that time I also had the chance to beta test several MMOs, such as Elder Scrolls Online and this very game! More recently I had a summer fling with Wildstar and ArcheAge, both of which I rarely play now. Since then I had been searching for an MMO to enjoy for a long period, and compared many to my extensive checklist of criteria. FFXIV: ARR met more of those than any other I could find, which leads us to right now, with me jabbering your eyes out on this forum. TLDR: MMO that got my feet wet was Ragnarok Online (on private servers). Consistently played Mabinogi for a number of years, then Guild Wars 2. Beta tested some games, ESO and FFXIV among them. Played Wildstar and ArcheAge over the summer. --RP experience I've had a sort of crescendo of interest in roleplay since the early days of playing Mabinogi, finally getting my feet wet a few times on TERA. I got really into it in GW2, but unfortunately I'm quite shy, so I didn't really end up roleplaying a lot until I started in Wildstar and ArcheAge. And even so, I still consider myself a newbie when it comes to RP, so please don't hesitate to tell me if I do anything wrong. I'm happy to learn. --Character ideas/info I've got four characters in-game right now, but only one has any depth to my idea for her yet. -My Miqo'te, Khitzu Rinh, I hope will be a high-energy blacksmith who likes to use her spears "to make sure they're of good quality." She will probably be cheerful, but also impatient. I'm hoping to develop her first, especially as I play and learn the lore of the game. -I don't really have too many ideas for my Roegadyn alt, who I named Usynthuv Wintahrwyn. I used a different word to end her first name than is normally suggested, which I hope is ok because it translates to dove, which in my experience of owning a dove, people always assume is female (mine is male lol). I'm thinking her family may be a little unorthodox or something. She has a scar on her right eye that has renderred it useless, so I'll have to think up a suitable backstory. (Honestly, one of my strong motivators to make her was that I like the look of Roegadyn so much. If anyone has seen the giants of Mabinogi, the Roegadyn seem sort of like how they should have ended up. Of course their lore is totally different, though.) -My Lalafell alts, Zuzuki Zuki and Zuzureji Kukureji, are siblings, Zuzureji being older and quite protective of his sister (I'm hoping to make him into an adorable little tank! So cute~). Zuzuki will probably be sort of a bubbly airhead type. Again, I'm really hoping to develop these characters a ton once I know more lore. But any ideas or tips you could suggest would be great. --How did you learn about the coalition? I googled something along the lines of "FFXIV roleplay" and found this site. --What kind of a role-player are you aiming to be? Light, medium, or heavy? Probably medium. That's always sort of a weird question for me as it depends how you categorize each. Going off what is described in the RP handbook, I'd be a medium-well. I mean, uh, medium to heavy. I check off more heavy elements on the list than light. (For anyone following along on the list, my heavy elements would be 1, 2, 5, 6 and 9. For 3 and 4 I'm on the light side. For 7, I am in between, as I wouldn't make my character go somewhere they wouldn't go or wouldn't even know about, and I won't just plop them anywhere on an established timeline, but I don't track locations or travel times normally. For 8, I am also in between, as I usually spend most of my time progressing on characters, but a lot of that time I'd be up for RP, I'm just too shy to get involved. lol) --Anything from real life you're comfortable with sharing? (Work, school, hobbies, etc) Well, I'm Canadian. More specifically I'm Acadian (bonus points if you know anything about us), and so I speak French as my first language. I go to a French university in my hometown and study psychology and physics (at least until I can pick one or the other). I like to play MMOs, as you might have noticed, but also some other PC games, as well as 3DS and Wii U games and some older stuff. If you ask why I have a Wii U but no PS4 or Xbox One, it is because most of the games on those two (and their predecessors) that I'm interested in playing, I can play on my PC. Aside from playing video games and doing homework, I like to make videos on youtube or hitbox. Mostly Let's Play videos and livestreams of games, but occasionally I will do unboxings or stream while I draw on my computer. I have a pet ringneck dove named Curie (after Marie and Pierre Curie), who loves peanuts, hates when people try to pet him [without giving him peanuts], and often gets mistaken for a girl, despite never having laid an egg. He is adorable and silly. So that's me. Sorry I rambled on! I said I'd try not to, but I did anyway. lol If you've got any questions, comments or tips, feel free to reply. As you can see, I like to answer questions. Thanks again to all the people who helped me in my previous thread. I hope you won't mind this super-long post too much. EDIT: Forgot to mention I'm banndsand, but you can call me Lys if you want something more normal. And if you ever want to find me on another site, I should be just about every banndsand you'll find out there.
20. I finally made it onto the server! I even got my alts in. Thanks for the advice, everyone! Now that I've gotten a bit of sleep, I think I'll properly introduce myself on a new thread. I hope to see you guys in game soon.
21. Thanks for the welcome and the luck. I am really excited to see all the lore in-game. That is usually how I get a lot of my ideas for characters. I never thought about taking screenshots of the game for that reason, though. It sounds quite useful, so thanks for the tip!
22. I suppose wanting a transfer is just my impatience for the new experience talking. In reality, I want to make four characters, so I realise now that it would be terribly impractical. For now I'll just refresh the server list and try to acquaint myself with the forum some (after all, it is full of really nice people from what I've seen so far ). Hopefully I'll be seeing you all in-game soon. Thanks so much for answering all my questions.
23. Hm alright. Thanks everyone. Do you think it would be worth keeping my client open throughout the day or is it a zero-possibility until tomorrow morning?
24. Yes. Everything is saved. I wrote down names, birthdays and patron deities to make it quicker. I've had my client open since this morning, refreshing the server list at the end of the creation process every few minutes. Unfortunately the christmas break is why I can stay up so late and get up so early to do all this. Are server transfers a possibility? For instance making a character on another server and transferring it to Balmung. Or would that be just as restricted?
25. Getting into Balmung is proving more difficult than anticipated, as this is my third day trying. If anyone has any tips for times to hit the server with new characters, that would be awesome. So far I've checked the website (here) at every interval, with no luck. I've also kept the game open on the server selection part of character creation and refreshed the server list every few minutes for as long as I'm at my computer, but this has not proven fruitful either, and makes it difficult to do much of anything else. I was hoping my bum luck was just because it was the weekend, but I've been up since 3AM PT trying and have yet to see a window. I heard a good time is right before maintenance. Does anyone know when the next one might be so I can be prepared? Thanks.
