Expectations and balancing of "master fighters/mages"
Branson Thorne replied to Seriphyn's topic in RP Discussion
If we really want to delve into this matter of trying to find a realistic balance between our characters then we should discuss what is or isn't possible in say a Rogedyn vs Lalafell (I'm sure I misspelled both of those.) because let's face it, a midget warrior who doesn't barely come to the shins of his opponent is not going to beat him. Their swords are the equivalent to a small pocket-knife, and their bows, given their small sizes would not hardly be capable of a killshot, much less even penetrating basic armor. -
The IC/OOC boundary and how to approach it the SMILE way
Branson Thorne replied to g0ne's topic in RP Discussion
Everything, really. Relationships are the biggie, but it's definitely not unheard of for IC slights/arguments to be taken OoCly. How odd, I can understand the lines of a romance/erp blurring the lines, but never IC arguments. -
.........yes.

Truer words have never been spoken, my friend. Pour him some ale! *joyfully receives his free ale!*

I. Basic Info Characters: I currently have 8, to many to name Primary character: A'mon Vespar Linkshells: None. Primary RP linkshell: None II. RP Style Amount of RP (light, medium, heavy): Fluctuates depending on what is going on, but Medium to Heavy Views on RP combat and injuries: Anything is possible, please /tell before attempting anything Views on IC romance: Romance is fine. As for regarding ERP, that will need to be discussed before hand, and personal boundaries be established and tightly held to. Views on non-romantic RP (family ties, etc): There is room in my RP for this, PM me or /tell in-game and we can set something up! Views on lore: I take a few liberties, and accept liberties from others. The important thing to me is that we are having fun. Views on chat functions (/say, /linkshell, etc): /say can either be IC or OOC for me. All in character marked with *sample* for character actions, and "sample" for IC speech. May use party chat if there is to much /say from others going on. III. Other Info Country: United States Timezone: EST Contact info: /tell in game or leave PM here

Looking for RP connections & friends!
Branson Thorne replied to Branson Thorne's topic in Chronicled Connections
((IC Bulletin)) A crude, hand written poster hangs tacked to the dusty bulletin board in Ul'dah.* It read as follows* ""Capable sword arm looking for work. Experienced in hunting, tracking, and desert survival. Seek out A'mon Vespar, located in the Coffer & Coffin or the Quicksand. Signed, A'mon Vespar"" ((OOC Interpretation)) Looking for an RP Free Company, something lore-ish friendly. Preferably base located in Ul'dah and runs weekly/monthly RP events. Character is good aligned so would be best to find something that suits that type of RP. FC size is not important, as long as your FC is friendly and matches what I'm looking for, I'm interested in talking with you. EDIT: Also, if you need a low level tank for an IC dungeon run, I'll be happy to fulfill that role. -

Just to help pull this back into topic, I haven't read all the replies yet, but this boundary line referring to relationships or other things? -

[Balmung] Looking for people RP with.
Branson Thorne replied to Jijinji's topic in Chronicled Connections
Though my character is friendly, he doesn't really suit what you're looking for. That being said, if you happen to see me in the Quicksand, feel free to walk up and say hello! -
I think the day when people stop complaining about stupid things, will be the day the world dies in a massive fiery explosion......or when Jesus comes back, for religious people..... You get the point....

The IC/OOC boundary and how to approach it the SMILE way
Branson Thorne replied to g0ne's topic in RP Discussion
Though i've never engaged in ERP before, I wouldn't say I am against it.....IF.....it suits the roleplay, and...IF.....its with the understanding that this is all done IC. That being said however, ERP always seemed like sticky situation to get yourself into without really knowing the basics of the person OOC. And i don't mean that you have to know them IRL. Just as long as you know them good enough to make an educated guess on how they will handle an ERP scenario, to see if they can distinguish the difference between IC and OOC realtionship. -
Expectations and balancing of "master fighters/mages"
Branson Thorne replied to Seriphyn's topic in RP Discussion
I think the basic thing to do, is to understand that your character, no matter what experience, can, and probably will be defeated more then his fair share of times. For instance: I have a little shy of 2yrs of martial arts experience (Aikido) which is a self defense karate form. Now due to Hollywood, you'd assume i'd never be hit........WRONG......I've done my fair share of taking hitsin RL scuffles to know that no matter how good you are, someone, somewhere, will be able to best you at least once. And it has nothing to do with your skill level. Maybe something distracted, maybe something was thrown into your eyes, or maybe, you simply thought he was hooking left, and instead he hooked right. Upon creation of my character, i wanted realism. This means having battle scars of fights long before that was a loss. If someone wishes to fight with me IC, i assume the /roll rule. It seems to be the most fair, realistic way of pertaining an outcoem to both parties. Where my character achieves his "badass-ery" is the ability to overome any lose and have a "can't keep a good man down" vibe to him. -
Normally I don't mind working, but on slow rainy days.....it's just that......sloooowwwwww.
-
I think that goes in the "Balmung Directory" section of the forums.

I get where he is trying to go with this, but lets face it, this is just "Hollywood" being redone to fit his taste. No archer, in a combat situation is going to partially run sideways up a tree before firing. Not to mention, that the firing of 3+ arrows at once cause it's penetrating power by atleast 35%. So unless your opponent was standing within 10 feet of you, but naked, the arrows would not pierce thru much. If you are using these techniques forecourt roleplay or other fantasy type interaction, then this would help spice up a fairly weak melee range class. In real life however, it's just not practical. Now, I'm not a pro archer (tho info have some experience) so this is not based on solid facts, it's just my thoughts on the matter.

The IC/OOC boundary and how to approach it the SMILE way
Branson Thorne replied to g0ne's topic in RP Discussion
I gotcha. Was mostly wanting to dismantle the "you look trashy" side of things. There's a difference between "I'm open to sexual content" and "fill my boihole with billions of cat seeds." ...you know what? Not editing that. COME AT ME, MODS. Edit: I lied. Again, not saying there's anything wrong with the second case. It's definitely a lot cruder than "I fuck on the first date" though. Oh man, I had a witty answer to whatever was replied, but I underestimated the clever use of "boihole" and "cat seed" haha. -
Good to say others are currently sharing my plight!

The IC/OOC boundary and how to approach it the SMILE way
Branson Thorne replied to g0ne's topic in RP Discussion
True, but even if the latter is true, it's the way they want to play, and honestly, doesn't hurt anyone I say let them have their way and if you don't want to RP into that, then don't. And this is not aimed at you, Warren. Just the topic in general. -
Though new to the forums myself.....WELCOME! I don't have much experience with RP myself (though I do have a little) So if you want to meet up for some casual RP, with outside of town or in the Quicksand, just let me know!

I'm thinking its more because it's a culture that we don't fully understand. They are more tribal, and with a sense of duty to their tribe that, much like real life, humans do not really relate with. Where-as Miqo'te have set guidelines in who can, and cannot mate, Most humans just "stick whatever they please and move on.

Thanks to both!
