  1. In that case, I'm gonna RP a Saiyan as a monk. Can't say it doesn't exist 'cause it's a big world out there 8-) not really much of a stretch when there's demons and gods running around. and hey why not maybe you were sent to hydaelyn as a baby lol He makes a good point Val. I think he has you beat here.
  2. It is still possible to get into both servers. You just need to know when. Generally just after downtime. Waking up early is a small price to pay to get on the server you want. If your rolling in green paper currency money you can just buy a transfer after getting the character above a certain level on another server and waiting for a few days for it to be enabled.
  3. The wonderful thing about Dark Knights, is I'm the only one!
  4. I know someone but she was looking for an extra large voice.
  5. Welcome! Harbingers of Dawn is great, I hear good things about them.
  6. I read this in Mulan's man voice from that awesome movie. I forgot the name of it though.
  7. I'd replace my eye with a level V materia.
  8. I like to set a believable baseline for my characters. Anything extra I prefer to be added by those the character roleplays with, it feels more organic and rewarding that way.
  9. You need to be incredibly careful if you plan to do this, and I would honestly suggest not even trying. If you do decide to do it, do all the research you can on the type of mental illness you want your character to portray. Avoid making it their only defining quality, or using it as a means to make your character the center of attention in every single situation, like so many people who RP this sort of character tend to do. Furthermore, avoid using it as a tool to create a joke character. I have seen people RP a mentally deficient character to try and create 'amusing' situations, it is in bad taste to do this in my opinion. Remember, without even knowing it, you may be RPing with someone who has a similar condition in the real world, and if you make light of it, you may end up making problems for yourself and them.
  10. Not the point on that - people were saying it was better to have a common ground of understanding. I pushed it to the point of ridiculousness. If I didn't enjoy the game I'd have unsubbed a while ago and never looked back. I didn't like the gating but now that it's out I see they've actually made efforts to work with it enough that it mitigates a good portion of the problems I mentioned. Like, if they decided to gate 4.0 with 3.x MSQ completion I'd have far less problems with it than I had with 3.0 being gated with 2.55 completion because we have precedence on how they'd handle it. What I dislike is this argument that if you're not playing the game a certain way you should unsub and leave or just not get the game. That is a silly argument yes, but if you are not having fun with something, unsubbing or not playing may be the most logical choice, since money talks and bullshit walks. Cancelling your subscription sends a message, while continuing to fork over cash and complain on some internet forum yields little beneficial results.
  11. As a game ages, and adds more and more expansions, you need a way to help newer players get caught up to the new content. Imagine having to run 2.0 MSQ, 3.0 MSQ, all the story content added between now and 4.0, just to set FOOT in the new areas of an expansion you paid for. If people want to fate grind to level and skip the MSQ, why not let them? Who does it hurt? Some people like to grind. More options = more subscribers = more money for SE. As long as they do not compromise the quality and scale of the MSQ for those of us who enjoy it, I see no reason to be upset over this decision. Edit: Also what about people who want to be pure crafters/gatherers, they can't access the mining/botany/fish resources in Ishgard unless they do the MSQ on a combat job, that is silly.
  12. If you simply cannot contain yourself, do it in a tell. No need to try and belittle someone in public.
  13. I did not have a wiki until a few days ago, so yes!
  14. My problem with Uldah is I just can't find an IC reason why my character would be standing around in that tavern anyways. I wish there was more variety in locations.
  15. Do chocobos count? Platonic love of your horse bird.
  16. If you are increasing your characters power to win, and not to enhance the story and the role play experience of those around you, then you are doing it wrong in my opinion. Be humble, and always come up with at least one weakness for your characters. If you approach combat RP with that mind set, I think you will find your characters being more well rounded and fun to RP with. One of the most rewarding things in role play is to create an engaging character that grows in power in the minds of others, one that gains respect through their actions, and not because you put a bunch of awesome attacks on a character sheet yourself.
  17. It really depends on who captured him and for what reason. Probably an Alligator Salad. (Picture found on http://eorzeaneats.tumblr.com/ - A really cool blog where a player is slowly making each FFXIV recipe in real life and posting cool pictures/recipes)
  18. Hi all, New to the website and the RP scene in FFXIV, so this is my first character entry. I spent some time working on the wiki page for my character Vallerin Hortimont, and figured I'd drop it here and open up the flood gates for some constructive criticism. https://wiki.ffxiv-roleplayers.com/pages/Vallerin_Hortimont I have a thick skin, so go ahead and rip it apart if you wish. Looking for anything that might seem unbelievable or contradict established lore conventions, as well as any general writing suggestions. Thanks for taking the time to look. I will be adding more character relationships tomorrow, but right now I am tired! Looking forward to reading any feedback.
  19. With strangers, rolls are the only thing that keep people honest. I have met very few roleplayers who are willing to take a hit and do an interesting back and forth in text based combat.
  20. I will check your website out, thank you!
  21. Hello, Just posting here to introduce myself. I am a newcomer to the Balmung server, and a newbie when it comes to roleplaying. I have observed it in the past in various MMO games, just never really got involved. I am really enjoying my return to FFXIV. I played in 1.0 very briefly, as well as when 2.0 launched, but I did not stick around very long due to real world issues interfering. Now that I have some free time, I am back and looking to try my hand at roleplaying. I am still brainstorming ideas for my character, but I hope to have something worth posting in the coming days. For now I just figured I would say hello here in the welcome desk, and let folks know I am out there and willing to socialize! Going to dig into the stickys now and see if I can find a good RP FC or Linkshell that is welcoming for folks new to RP, looking forward to meeting you all here and in game.
  22. Hi all, my name is Ian, I come from a pretty hardcore gaming background, mostly progression raiding and competitive PvP. As I get older I find myself a bit less extreme when it comes to those pursuits. I have always loved creative writing, but I have never actually tried role playing in an MMO game before. I have played table top role playing games with friends and family, but never online. It is a unique challenge to role play a character and all his or her mannerisms live and on the spot, instead of for a story. I am looking for a mature group of folks who would be open to the idea of letting a newer role player join their group, link-shell, free company, or otherwise. My character is Margulis Amell, a Hyur Midlander Black Mage. His mannerisms and back story I am still working on, letting his interactions in RP shape his personality. I decided on a basic idea of him being rather eccentric, arrogant, and very proud of his power over black magic. When he sees greatness in others and thinks they do not flaunt it or shout it from the rooftops that they are wasting their potential. He is not mean however, in fact he actively encourages people to do their best and achieve their goals. He helps others, both citizen and adventurer alike, he just has an issue being modest about it. Obviously this is very basic, and I want to leave it as flexible as possible so he can grow and change as he interacts with the world and other characters. Thank you for reading and I look forward to reading your replies.
  23. What's your ingame name Gerik? I'll add you to my friends list.
