  2. There was an old Roe from the mountain. From who love once flowed out like a fountain. They say back in the day, He'd shared with someone it's ways, But's he lost one of his eyes in the partin.
  3. Flameson Hammersmith Battle intro: Dethklok- Skyhunter Victory: They kin probably put you back together. Defeat: Can't die here. Too much gotta do first... Assist: This'll cost yah. Taunt: C'mon pussy cat. Reacting to Taunt: That earns yah what's comin. Flee: Finish this later, yah git! Reacting to Flee: You better run! Tie: Heh. Good fight. Call this even then. Perfect Victory: Guess I gotta put you out of yer misery...
  4. That's an odd way to talk about Broke Back Mountain.
  5. And the true men can get the same effect without replacing their bits with bots! It's okay to need equipment for your equipment, we won't judge you to your face. ...What can we say about Warren that hasn't been beaten out of him already and sold for prize money?
  6. Can chars have mental illnesses? Yes. They can. Should you be playing one with such? If the answer to this involves "I don't want to do the research to portray it correctly and without being an asshole to the people who also have it", the answer is probably no. This shit is complicated. There's an old term for RPers who do it shittily, "Fish Malk", referring to the "Lol so randum" portrayals of insanity in RPGs from the mid/late 90s in stuff like Vampire the Masquerade. It's stuff like that that trivializes the struggle with these conditions in real life, and marginalizes the people who have to deal with it. Being someone's joke, someone's punchline, being handy attention seeking hook of the hour, is not how any mental illness works and if it's being played as such there's probably a long walk off a short plank you should be contemplating because, I hate to tell you, you are the asshole here. Now, if you're still set as playing mental illness as a facet and a condition, not a quirk of the hour, a cute thing that is extra cute to add to cute, or the extra tortured soul who is more tortured than thou I mean look at this really, the worst gib sympathy plz, then read on. Look up how these things work. How they change perspectives. How they grind the edges off things like enjoyment and satisfaction. Some do it fast, some do it slow, some do it dramatically. See how it's going to lash out against those around you. It's called an illness because it inhibits, not because it's neat., Mental illness prevents you from operating at a baseline point. It doesn't just come up whenever it's convenient. Which makes portraying it hard. Really: I'd recommend not doing it. It's really easy to be an asshole instead of being interesting with it. Personality traits are one thing. Actual conditions are another. They arn't fun and, for the most part, we're all here to have fun.
  7. I found a good one recently. Bit longish though. Link to the source and authors at the end of it here: Look, said the dragon, don’t tell anybody, but I don’t think I believe in stories. Yesterday I clipped down my wings. I didn’t like them, they hurt, the way they scraped against the cave; I was too wide for its walls or else there was too much treasure lining its floor— goblets and gems, coins and coronets— so I said either the gold goes, or I do. I think I went. All right, Sir Knight, I know you’ve come to kill me. When are you going to get it over with? My lungs are full of fire and my heart is acid and bone. Tell me that’s all. Tell me I’m fine. Tell me I’m supposed to feel this way. I’m not young but not that old, surely; I’ve got years left of destruction, pillaging, rampages, a princess or two. I think the fields of England are still green. Yesterday, when my wings were clipped against my sides, I thought: I could live like this. Come on, Sir Knight, what are you waiting for? I suppose the princess must be pretty; they always are. Hair like gold, I hope, and eyes like the ocean. You’ll have to watch out for her. Girls who are sold in exchange for a murder, they know their own worth. They don’t tame. We’re alike that way. Your armor is old, Sir Knight, and rusty. You didn’t come better prepared? It’s no matter. Don’t worry; I won’t bite. Docile as a lamb, me. Come closer. When you slide the sword in make it quick, don’t linger. You’re the hero triumphant and I’m giving you a happy ending but after all this time, even you should know nothing in this world comes free. Here’s your end of the bargain: have mercy. After all, what’s the difference between this and a love story? Once, not long after I was hatched, I got it into my head to fly as high as I could. The day was warm— it must have been summer— and the sky was made of nothing but sunlight. Below me, your island was emerald and brown. There were rivers. I don’t think I’ve ever been so alone or so unlonely.
  8. 5-3 so far for Hammer. If you count that time he just sucker punched a guy mid conversation as a fight >_>
  9. Joss Whedon has legit issues. His failings and the response to them are a completely different kettle of false-equivalency fish compared to the other two who, as I understand it, actual innocents.
  10. A similar point is that a majority of the Eorzian population is completely unseen and unrepresented. Hundreds/thousands of farmers, laborers, miners, etc etc and other people who are simply handwaved to exist and supply the areas we as players run in.
  11. Knives Something to smoke Matches. Lots of matches. Gunpowder, in varying amounts depending on Reasons. Lethally high proof alcohol. Cigars in varying states of abuse and use. Money Pouch Tin cup. Varying amount of permits and legal documents depending on Reasons. Always Axe
  12. I've got too much experience with people who actively leech the resources and support of a community and then shit-talk it in every other arena. Fuck those guys.
  13. I use forum stuff for things that are happening "Off screen" and don't allow, or don't work well, with other people. Stuff Hammer's never going to tell anyway no matter how much booze or arm breaking is involved. The stuff that WON'T come out in RP. Period. End of line. It's an interesting place to look into "Well, not logged in, not making other people miserable. What's he doing?" Mostly what ends up happening, for me anyway, is a small serialized story done in 3-5 posts about the who the what and the why, with a hefty dose of ambiguity for further elaboration.
  14. "You've given me your red button. I will give you all that you deserve."
  15. "He's right behind me isn't he?" Hammer enjoys looming. "I hope you choke on that (smoke of the day)" He also enjoys smoking like a chimney. "I don't think that's a good idea." It's a great idea. You're just squeamish to the point of uselessness. "Did you really just do that?" Yes. Are you blind?
  16. Oh, there's reasons. There's a looooot of reasons. Just none of them anyone else needs to hear.
  17. As said above, this train needs to be unhooked from gameplay, walked back to the start, and rebuilt, if you want it to interact on a wider scale with other people in contexts that will actually occur in RP. Edit: I'll come back when I'm home with some writing and story guides that can give you a better, more stable framework than the in-game quests and mechanics, which are terrible places to weave a char from.
  18. I see it more like having an axe, and having an axe and being able to strap a flamethrower to the axe. Pirates are practical users of the axe. Not really casual users, but they're not an overly organized or crazy force. They're just good at what they do. Warriors are there to pull your limbs off and beat you to death with them. It's a completely different league of "I have an axe" It's "I have an axe and I like the sound of someone's throat being crushed in my bare hand". It's an immersion in being absolutely furious and riding that wave to the point where every's dead and you're covered in their blood. Which...might explain why the art died out. That's not the sort of thing that's fun at parties anymore. The only reason it's limited to "axe user" is because that's how FF works. I'd love to see this class have at least MODELS for large hammers, mauls, tetsubos, the works, but in the end all the skills and animations require the weapon in question, and less the lore requiring it (See: Wrestles bears for giggles)
  19. Curious George is making a dedicated effort to revitalize the ways of the Warrior, so yes. Doesn't have to come from him, but someone he taught can presumably teach someone else. Beyond that, there's stories and legends. No reason why someone couldn't go digging and uncover it themselves. Huh, sweet. You can teach people to get MAD AS FUCK and it's okay? I LIKE IT. Thanks! The entire questline for War is showing how various react to learning to PROPERLY be mad as fuck.
  20. Another good one: "Man. Your scars look cool! Chicks dig scars!" "Do I seem like I give two wet shits about how I look?"
  21. I remember that! The cold stares in Pocket D and the pants-off dance-offs, scathing personal attacks and outright cruelty on both sides. Really annoying/amusing stuff but beneath that was some deep, dark animosity. It made a lot of people, even some heavy RPers back off and go hide in their SG bases which really drove a dagger into the heart of the community. It didn't "kill" anything per se, but I know it strained a lot of people I played with. I, personally, am not one for being lore-strict, despite my inherent desire to see a unified field theory for RP. Much of that is due to seeing what Freelancer described right here and how damaging it was. /rerail AIN'T NO GETTING OFF THIS DERAIL WE'RE ON. The in-fighting and general unfriendliness of Virtue were one of the reasons I stuck with the Victory RP group, which oscillated between Victory and Virtue for different sets of characters. * * * So far I don't think I've done much lore-breaking, but I have contributed to many lorefudgings over time as I'm of the opinion that if you can roll it in-game you can play it. Just some classes/jobs require more knowledge of the lore and how to work it. Oh god, I remember the virtue Pocket D. The Knocker King was a proto-hammersmith personality back then. I only ever hung out at the Cape broadcasts on Virtue, but what fun it was to have a horde of Tweedle bots with macro actions.
  22. "Stop swearing." "Do you ever smile?" "Have you forgotten how to have fun?" "Please don't punch him." "Put that cigar out." "Put that pipe out." "Please don't light this place on fire. Again." "Shanking him is not the answer." "Neither is kicking them hard enough to make their testicles pop." "Hi geezer!"
  23. There's not a lot in Hammer's storys that can get headcannoned away. Mostly they'd have to say "There have been no major inter-City State warfare in the last 30 years and no siege engines have been required outside of assaults on Garlean strongholds" In which case Hammer's outlook on everything would have to swing, a lot. Most of what and who he is now is based around warfare, war profiteering, and understanding how to wreck things on a large, ugly scale. He'd mutate into something more along the lines of Big Boss than what he is now. Looking out for what happens to soldiers once the wars just start blurring together, eventually looking to turn against and away and separate from. Which is a weird opposite of what he is now, which is a vulture who circles warfare to live.
