I'll be on Balmung for a short while to make sure my character transferred in correctly, but otherwise i'll be on Gilgamesh for phase 3
-
I'll be sticking with Balmung - especially now that I see it will be an NA/EU server. I've met all of you on there, and I also have many friends over the years who were not in my LS that i would party up with and talk to over my time in FFXIV. Just wanted to mention I will probably start my own new character on the Legacy server to help out, and I would encourage new players to also join us on Balmung. Even though the idea of joining all new players on an all new server sounds appealing, I'm sure after the first few weeks there will be many players who reach level cap and doing end-game content and knowing a lot about the game who will be on-par with any legacy players you'd meet on Balmung.

I know before phase 3 we were allowed to at least log in and install the updates to the client. Were you able to get past that? I think the beta forums have the link to the official client, so make sure you get it from that link.

This is the only screenshot I took because I didn't think screenshots would work.

What games are you playing/looking forward to?
Uriah_Nool replied to Orlog's topic in Off-Topic Discussion
I've been playing GW2 and TERA lately - with TERA being my favorite of the two due to the community being pretty fun and helpful. GW2 has a lot of content, but I just can't seem to get into it no matter how much I try to convince myself it's fun. Luckily because they're not subscription based I can keep them both installed and revisit them without feeling too guilty for not playing. -
http://uriahnool.wordpress.com/ I've been running an FFXIV blog on wordpress for a while now. Just wanted to let people know they can read/comment on it if they would like. Also if you have any topics you want me to look into or any suggestions for the blog or links to other blogs or videos I can add to my blog, just let me know! Thanks Uriah Nool

I'm going to Gilgamesh too. I was on Moogle for phase 1 and 2 and saw a few people I knew from Balmung (and I also saw the Yoshi-P twice) - but hopefully I will see more familiar faces on this one.

Stand back everybody! Here it comes Penny Struthers

My Full name is Andrew Uriah Schaefer. I am 25 years old and live in Wisconsin. I currently work in Tech Support and have an Associate's Degree in Computer Support. I live alone, but also have a dog with way too much energy who keeps me company. I like to read books. None of my RL friends play FFXIV, so that makes me a sad panda. Here's pictures of me, my dog, and my computer that does many awesome things because I built it myself. It's because they took too long to bring it back up. I had uninstalled the day before the announcement confirming they would be back up, and i'll be darned if i'm going to sit through hours of install again just to wander aimlessly without progress. ... I want back in

I may or may not have been invited to Alpha.

They are rebuilding it, but a lot of elements are carrying over into the new version, not to mention the community. The world's lore, the crafting, the items, the character designs - those will all be there. The only changes I really anticipate are a reworking of the UI (for the better) more in-game activities to do (for the better) and more places to explore (for the better).

After things settled down Uriah ventured out of his hiding place in the twelveswood and found his way to what was left of Gridania. He was taken aback by all the damage and destruction he has seen in the area, and decided he would spend the entirety of the five years living in Gridania and helping them rebuild from the disaster. He hasn't journeyed out of the woods in all this time, but has been listening to any news on what was going on in other parts. He has been keeping journals of what he has seen throughout the rebuilding efforts and the people he met along the way. Because of these efforts he was given appreciation and good standing with the folk in town. Aside from the rebuilding efforts, he spent a lot of time alone honing his survival skills and talking to the woods. Part of his personal journal efforts were in categorizing the different beasts seen roaming the land. Putting away his staff and sword, Uriah spent these last five years working on his gathering crafts and developed a strong bond with nature. He emerges after five years, a little older and a little wiser. After some preparations have been made, Uriah once again prepares to set fourth and see how things are progressing in the other areas.

I think you'll like XIV. I could never get into an MMO until this one, and I've been playing it since shortly after launch. I didn't know a thing about it existing until I saw it on the shelf at Gamestop in September 2010. I was all like WTF?! MINE!! I really like how there is enough lore and quests available for a solo player to thoroughly enjoy the game on a personal level, but a very great and friendly community who are mostly all Final Fantasy fans. The game plays smoothly and looks beautiful and allows for a lot of freedom to play as whatever character you want. Welcome aboard!

I actually was excited to watch this. I didn't see it when it was broadcast, and of course I don't speak Japanese so it wouldn't have made sense anyway. I saw the Q and A from the video posted on the forms afterwards, but watching this video and actually seeing the gameplay and the producers answering questions and talking about alpha - many times better than any text post on a forum. Everyone who didn't watch this better clear out 2 hours and commit.

I haven't gone fishing since that one day long ago... http://i.imgur.com/DEiUq.jpg[/img]

Oh it looks like so much fun. I can't wait to go play there and touch all the new things.
-
I'm glad to see Gridania looks to be the same as it is in 1.0. I was afraid they were going to gut the entire city design and make something new in its place.

Aww, no Stilzkin. He was my favorite moogle ever

I. Basic Info Characters: Uriah Nool (Lalafel Uriah), Uriah Bladewind (Hyur Uriah) Primary character: Uriah Nool Linkshells: Primary RP linkshell: II. RP Style Amount of RP (light, medium, heavy): I would consider myself a light RP person. I might switch to medium someday, but I don't think I could go into too heavy of a level of RP. It's just too much. Views on RP combat and injuries: Not sure what it all means. But I know anything built into the game mechanics is possible, and anything that can't be done in the game I don't really go for. If someone can cast cure, then they can RP that they are able to heal wounds. If someone dies, they can be raised. If someone is a BLM, they can cast a fire at someone. I won't stand for someone summoning a pet tiger, as that isn't possible. That being said if a player wants to make out they have a gimped knee because of a war injury or something like that, that is fine. I can play along. I personally would brag about my skills of being a mage and take pride in using my fire magic. Views on IC romance: Romance is fun and I can appreciate it in RP. My character has a underlying attraction to all females, but would never be caught in a relationship full-time. That may change someday, but as far as I am concerned Uriah Nool is a lone wolf. Also, if I am going to be for serious RP in a romance, I would probably want to get to know that person OOC and make sure we liked each other. I like to have some authencity in the character I portray. Views on non-romantic RP (family ties, etc): I've seen some people as kids of other characters - I think that a bit strange. I can believe someone is a sister or cousin or even an uncle if the avatar of the older one looks to be older. If a lalafel is a for serious RP sister of a miqo'te, then that doesn't seem right to me. There has to be a believable appearance verification in the characters, then I will play along with anything they say. Views on lore: Lore is important to setting the mood of RP. If you're in character, either stick to the lore or avoid the topic. Don't call things by the wrong name, or make like it doesn't matter. Lalafels are not hobbits and spriggans are not wookies. Views on chat functions (/say, /linkshell, etc): Any chat function you make while on an RP event I consider to be an in-character emote. III. Sick and tired of all the loud noises and the chaos in the world, Uriah Nool has decided to go into hiding for several years until things blow over. He is in the process of packing his supplies, selling off everything he doesn't need, and looking for a nice cozy cave or hole in The Black Shroud to hide out in. The woods have been around for a long time and its guardians have weathered out such troubles in the past. With any luck, when everything quiets down Uriah will venture out into the world again, in search of companionship and adventure once more.
